Potions: Lesson One - Alihotsy Draught (All Years)

PostSubject: Potions: Lesson One - Alihotsy Draught (All Years)   Sun Sep 04, 2016 7:43 pm

The summer had been somewhat lacking for James, which meant being back at the school was not so much of a hard task to come back to. Now, this was not to say James was happy to be back - Merlin knew his love for children had not changed over the six week break - he was much the same in his blatant distaste for the children he had the misfortune to be teaching.

To ease his woes, James had, once again, combined his lesson in to one class to make sure he could spend as little time with the imbeciles that were his students. Whether his students liked this method of teaching was not something James cared to explore.

Sitting at his desk, James waited for the students to arrive by filling in his notebook with some findings he'd made on a potion he'd been brewing earlier. After all, James was a very intelligent man, gifted in the Potions realm, but too lazy to push himself for greatness. Behind him, on the chalkboard were two words, Alihotsy Draught. The students need not know anything more.

Delilah summer wasn't anything special for sure. It was quite boring actually. She barely had any fun over summer for sure. She barely met her father like always. She was most of times alone for sure. She hated that feeling, mostly when you were alone in big house by yourself. She sighed awhile she walked into the classroom. She noticed she was first student there today.

"Hello, professor," she said there and took a seat middle of classroom. She looked over the board and sighed. She had no idea what potion this even was. She had never read anything about it so far. She hoped that someone else will care to explain to what it does since she was too lazy right now to search it up from her book and get familiar with it. She waited there to other students arrive so they could start with the lesson there.

Another year, Violet's last, and more potions classes. Oh the wonder! While she rather liked potions- the teacher was, well, he had rubbed her the wrong way during a previous lesson. All she had to do was suck it up, get it done and get the marks she needed to do- well, she wasn't entirely sure. She supposed that she'd go into a ministry job, travel maybe. And while there was certainly nothing wrong with that, there was something more that she wanted. More so than anything, she wanted success- to some extent, even fame. In what field- she was uncertain. She'd be sure to discover something soon enough. For now at least- a ministry worker was her goal- just anything to provide her with a steady income so she can move out as promptly as possible.

That morning, Violet went straight to potions, not really bothering with breakfast, she didn't feel hungry. She walked into the classroom, deliberately taking the seat right at the back of the classroom. As per usual, she didn't greet Balan, but rather looked past him to the board and saw the potion that they'd be completing today.

She took the fact that it was written on the board to mean that she could just start if she wanted to. So she began flicking through her textbook to see what ingredients she'd have to gather and began to ready her equipment.

Potions was, by far, Max's worst subject. The attention to detail was simply something Max could not deal with, no matter how hard he tried. Poor Elyah had been the one who had gotten on the wrong side of one such potion that had gone wrong, and honestly, Max didn't think she'd forgiven him just yet.

However, Potions was mandatory to his year, so Max kept going, trying to get better at the subject, though the likelihood was that he was never going to be.

Slipping in to the room, Max took a seat towards the middle, not so far back that he would look like he didn't care, but not swatting up to the professor by sitting at the front. Hopefully Elyah would make an appearance in the class - maybe they could work together. The Hufflepuff was amazing at potions, so her help would definitely help to boost Max's grade - if she agreed, of course.

In all of her thoughts about where she would be in her seventh year or what she would be thiking about, Isaline had never thought that she would be sitting in a classroom at Hogwarts thinking about a boy. It was bad enough that she was drowning in the mess that was her future. She had no idea what she wanted to do with her life. Would University be a good idea? What would she study? Is being rich a profession? It had always seemed like the Pureblood had had all the time in the world to get her life figured out, but now it was coming at full speed and there was nothing she could do to delay it.

And there was also Finley, the boy that she had met a year or so ago aftera rather embarrassing victory dance. She was not sure how she felt about Finley. He was kind and cute, but did he fit into whatever future she had planned? Did she fit into his?

With all of this crowding her mind, Isaline made her way into the potions classroom. Professor Balan sat at his desk, as sulky as usual. She noticed the words "Alihotsy Draught" written on the board.

'Hysteria,' she thought, taking a seat. As if she was not already crazy enough.

For Alexander classes have never really been fun for sure but he needed to attend them. Boy has never been good at Potions lessons for sure. He usually messes something up there for sure but still over years he did attend the class, mostly because others lessons were even more boring for him.

Alex walked into the classroom, didn't even bother to say hello to anyone. He did take a seat back at the classroom. He had no idea what that Potion did what name was on the board in front of classroom. He barely have even heard or read about potions for sure. So he just won't say anything like usually.

He now needed to wait until everyone else shows up here, so they can start with the lesson for sure. He hoped it would happen soon for sure. He couldn't wait to until it's time to do something else than sit here, listen students and professor to talk. Also to do some potion what he probably wouldn't need in his life for sure.

Potions was probably Finley's least favourite subject. One, his hands shook enough on a normal day to make the careful art of potion making more than a little bit difficult. And two, Professor Balan scared the living daylights out of the Head Boy which contributed to the first point becoming ten times worse. Well, perhaps a little exaggeration, in that point, but Finley was a little more than terrified of the man.

Hurrying down from the Ravenclaw tower, Finley slipped through the door to Potions class, relieved to find that he was not late by any means. That avoided a right rollicking from Professor Balan, and Finley let out a shaky breath as he moved through the stations, eyes not trained to anyone in particular, before he noted blonde hair. His eyes swept to the person, and upon noting Isaline, Finley moved to her side.

"May I s-sit with you?" Finley asked her in a whisper.

James didn't look up as each student entered the classroom - they were of little and less interest to him in that moment, and they should all know that by now. James simply waited for the bell to ring to signal the start of the lesson and then let out a small sigh. Time to get on with things.

"Right, everyone. A simple potion this morning. The Alihotsy Draught. Which one of you knows what this potion does? And, elaborate, one word answers will not get you any house points on my watch." James told them, his tone quite clear that he was not here for any messing around.

"Today you will be trying your own potions, and we'll test how long the effects work. The longer your potion lasts, the better your grade will be." James explained, making sure everyone understood this quite clearly.

((OOC: Once the question has been answered by a student, please make your potions as described in the spoiler.))
