Herbology: Lesson One (All Years) - Page 4 Empty

And he was flustered. It was plain on his face. And honestly, it just made Violet want to push that bit further. Not only that, but he didn't know her name. Now, should she state her name? She felt as though it'd make it so she wasn't just a student taking advantage of anonymity, but rather make her seem even more confident than she was probably coming off.

And yes, she knew she was being immature- but it made the lesson far more entertaining than it would have been. Plus, it was the only way she knew to temporarily cure her boredom.

"Lynch," she stated her surname plainly. He was trying to be firm with a "Please don't do that again".

Naturally, she had to retort "Or what, Sir?" she challenged. Her tone was flippant- and in fact, she didn't really care for a response. She moved to get her earmuffs- not bothering to partner with anyone, she worked better alone.

At the acceptance of his offer, Arthur smiled a little, pulling the bigger pot closer to them (but making sure it was a little closer to Carlotta. She was smaller than him, and not even a highly intelligent person needed to work out that this meant she wouldn't be able to reach as far. Or, maybe it was just Arthur's overly analytical brain... or maybe just him...

Then, Arthur lifted the sack of compost on to the table so they could make the bed of compost beneath. Turning slightly to Carlotta, he motioned that they should pat the compost down just enough to make sure there was plenty of soil - and therefore nutrients - for the plant to grow.

Picking up his first handful of soil, Arthur pushed it in to the bottom of the plant pot, allowing Carlotta the space to do herself before going again. This wasn't too difficult, nor too out of the scope of what Arthur had thought they might do, so for once, this new thing hadn't been too daunting.

Eli was quickly approached by a Hufflepuff boy, who looked to be a couple of years older, asking if he needed a partner. He noticed a slight accent of sorts, but it wasn't enough to impair his understanding. The confundus charm however, did. But only slightly. He got the jist of what the boy was saying.

"Partner? Yeah, sure mate," he grinned and decided to get to work, picking up his earmuffs once more and placing them over his ears. He found an empty pot and put it between the Hufflepuff and himself, starting by putting some soil in the bottom, making sure to allow the Hufflepuff time to contribute. The task hadn't been that hard, just repotting plants, thankfully. He found his thoughts growing clearer and clearer.

"Okay," he said to the boy loudly, again- because he couldn't hear himself over his earmuffs. He quickly realised that he didn't need them until they pulled the plant out, taking one ear off "So, reckon we both pull, and then one gets the soil ASAP?" he asked the boy.

Carlotta rather enjoyed working with Arthur. She supposed it was the way that he made it so the both of them had equal work. She picked up her own handful of soil, and like he did, helped to pat it down into the pot- hands brushing hands occassionally. It was a fairly straightforward task really- repotting mandrakes.

Soon enough, there was enough soil in the bottom of the pot, and Carlotta turned to Arthur, while she picked up her earmuffs "Ready for the fun part?" she asked, grinning "Though I'll need your help with it," she added. It wasn't necessarily that she couldn't pull the plant from its pot herself, moreso that with his strength, it'd be a quicker, less traumatic event for the mandrake. Additionally, she wanted to give him the same courtesy that he had given her. Besides, it was more fun to work together anyway. She placed the earmuffs over her ears and looked back to him, grabbing the base of the leaves.

"Ready?"

The placing of the soil went okay, the slight brushing of hands making Arthur apologise under his breath, even though neither one of them would be able to hear it through the ear muffs that were currently working to protect their ears. Of course, that didn't matter too much, but it seemed the polite thing to do when you touched someone without their permission.

As Carlotta readied for the Mandrake, Arthur moved to grab the base too, his hand slightly overlapping hers as he got ready to pull the plant from it's pot. He didn't think too much of the fact that they were - essentially - now holding hands. The question of him being ready made Arthur nod, clearly, once. Then, he pulled the plant up with Carlotta, and moved it quickly to the pot.

You could see the plant howling in distaste at being moved, but Arthur didn't hesitate. With his free hand, the Slytherin scooped more soil in to the plant pot, trying to cover the Mandrake enough so they could begin to pat the soil down. All the while, his hand remained on the base of the leaves, to stop the plant from deciding to run off, or something stupid like that.

The challenge from the Hufflepuff - Miss Lynch - was one Caspar decided to ignore. Openly. There was no point in pushing the witch with threats, because Caspar could already tell she was not one that was going to give in easily. It was therefore going to turn out better, for him, not to acknowledge the witch who was acting up a treat this lesson.

Instead, Caspar donned his pair of earmuffs, and wandered around the students who had decided to actually do the work this time. Directing those that weren't quite compacting the soil around the plant properly, and then showing giving a thumbs up to those who were doing well, Caspar managed to get around the whole class before his watch vibrated to announce the hour of the lesson was up.

Checking that all the Mandrakes were securely put in to their new pots, Caspar flicked his wand to make them all move to the side of the room, before flicking it once more to collect the ear muffs back in their box. "Well, that's all we have time for today, everyone. I hope that you've found the lesson helpful. Homework that is due for next lesson is to read up on the Mandrakes and make yourself some handy exam cards ready for revision. I won't be taking it in, so its up to you if you do the work. But I would recommend it.

"Class dismissed." The Irishman insisted, waving everyone out of the door with a smile on his lips.

Only when the last person left did Caspar slump on his desk, wondering what in the world had happened that would make his class go so horrendously. Children, it seemed, were more of a handful than some of his most exotic plants!

Class closed.
