Can Never Have Enough Books (Neve) Empty
PostSubject: Can Never Have Enough Books (Neve)   Can Never Have Enough Books (Neve) EmptyTue Dec 27, 2016 5:15 pm

Kieran had always been an avid reader, and despite not having as much free time to read as he used to he still loved it. Whether they were muggle fantasy, science fiction, poetry, romance novels, or if they were wizarding books on different subjects it made little difference to him. His love of books and learning about a variety of things was probably the main reason he'd been sorted into Ravenclaw. Since he actually had some time off for the moment he decided to spend some time perusing the Flourish and Blotts shelves, not looking for anything in particular but knowing he'd probably find at least a couple books he would be interested in purchasing.

At the moment he was walking through a selection of texts on ancient runes, which was something he always wanted to learn more about because it came in handy in his work. The more weird languages he knew the better in case he came across them while trying to find treasure or what not. He hated having to guess at how to defeat a set of wards or traps, but he'd been forced to more than he like because he simply didn't know enough. Up until now he'd been lucky and managed to avoid getting hurt in those circumstances, but he knew in his line of work luck would only last so long before he slipped up and got seriously injured or killed. There was a reason the life of a cursebreaker wasn't cut out for everybody, after all. Despite the dangers though, he loved his job and wouldn't want to do anything else. Finding two books that looked interesting, he started flipping through them before walking to find a place to sit down.

Since Kieran wasn't paying any attention, he didn't even notice the girl standing in his way before he bumped into her. Both of his books fell to the floor and he tripped, catching himself before he hit his head. Cursing himself for being an idiot, he looked at the person he bumped into to see if she was okay. "Are you alright, miss? I'm so sorry, I was distracted by my books and not paying attention." he said, blushing at being so stupid as to have let this happen.

Neve had broken up from university for the summer, and thus had time to dabble back in to the Magical world. She dared not to do it too often, because the less incriminating possessions she had that led people to the belief she was a witch, the better. Of course, she hid most of her magical objects with a basic charm that no Muggle could break, but she didn't take chances, either.

Today, the witch was heading to Flourish and Blotts to pick up a few books. Gabriel was busy - or so he'd said - so Neve had made herself scarce. It was best not to get in his way when he was not in the mood. And, books had always been her comfort.

Neve had already gathered a pile of books much too large for her to hold, and was currently looking at a romance novel set in their world. Her fingers stroked the spine of the book in thought as she tried to make up her mind, when something hit in to her, sending the books she'd gathered sprawling across the floor, whilst she managed to catch herself. The man, however, had no quite been so lucky.

"Oh my Godric, are you okay?" Neve asked, hurrying to the man's assistance without a second thought. "I'm fine, no harm done. Unless you count the books, of course..." Neve added, hurrying to pick the books up and close them so that the pages would not be ruined.

Kieran blushed more when he noticed how beautiful the woman he'd bumped into was, but with her help quickly got up and picked up his books before helping her gather hers. "Quite alright, miss, no harm done. Thanks for the hand up" he told her gratefully, before handing her some of the books she was carrying. "As for the books I think they survived the fall. Would have been a real shame to ruin them that way though, again so sorry about that." he apologized.

Once all the books were picked up he realized that he hadn't even introduced himself to the girl. In all the commotion it seemed that he had lost his manners as well, which was completely unacceptable. "Where are my manners today? Kieran Douglas, a pleasure to meet you. Could have definitely been a better way to meet than nearly bowling you over, but not much I can do about that now." he said with a slight chuckle as he grinned sheepishly at her.

Once everything was righted, Neve took up her pile of books again, ready to continue her search for books. Neve was the kind of girl who took a lot of cues from men, so she wasn't always sure what to do when she was around them. However, as the man who'd fallen over thanked her for her help, and spoke of the books, she knew that a conversation was opening up in that moment. "It certainly would have been, but it seems like we're okay." Neve responded with a small smile.

Neve let out a soft laugh as Kieran - as she know knew his name to be - spoke of not having manners. "Oh, don't be silly. You fell, and there were books to save. It's lovely to meet you, Kieran. I'm Genevieve Florente, though most people call me Neve." She explained warmly in that moment, before shaking her head at the idea of there being a better way to meet. "We're in a bookshop, I'm quite sure this is one of the best places to meet.

"Which books have you picked out?" She asked, motioning to the two books in the man's hands. She couldn't quite make out the titles on the spines, but she wouldn't have been surprised by that, after all, Flourish and Blotts stocked a whole host of magical books, which meant a number of languages, too.

Kieran's blush was finally starting to fade slightly and he smiled, nodding when she said it was okay. "Thank goodness for small blessings like that. Would you allow me to get you a book or coffee or something as apology, at least?" he asked her, hoping she would allow him to. He wasn't trying to be flirtatious, but he felt he should make up for what happened in some way if he could. Perhaps it was a bit of a silly thing to do, but he felt it was the right thing and that was what mattered.

Hearing the woman laugh at his comment mad him chuckle as well, and he felt himself start to relax slightly around her. It was refreshing to meet somebody who thought the saving of books took priority over other things, as he felt much the same. "A pleasure to meet you as well, Miss Florente." he said, bowing his head slightly to her. Having her point out that they were in a bookshop and there couldn't be a better place had him shrug in acknowledgement. "That is an excellent point, I admit. You can learn a lot about somebody by what type of books they enjoy." he replied.

The question of which books he'd picked out had him smiling, and he held them up to her so she could get a better look at them. "Two books on ancient runes that I thought looked promising. I got them because, one, I've always loved ancient runes, and two...because the more I know about these languages the better as I'm a cursebreaker. Sometimes I come across languages I have no idea what to do with and the more I learn the better." he explained, knowing he sounded like a huge nerd but not really caring. "What about you? Find anything good?" he asked.

"Oh, no I couldn't possibly accept such an offer. It was an accident, no harm is done. Please don't worry." Neve responded. She liked to buy her own things - something that was difficult with Gabriel because he was always very insistent. She didn't need a stranger to start buying her things, either. Merlin, if Gabriel found out... no, she wouldn't put Gabriel through such things, she couldn't.

The point of knowing a lot about someone by the books they read made Genevieve smile to herself knowingly. It most certainly did help her to get to know Gabriel, going through his library of books had opened new doors of conversation when he wasn't being cooperative. "I could never disagree with that. My... friend is a little difficult to get out of his shell, but if you get him to talk about his books, you have a conversation for hours." Neve explained with a smile, tucking her hair absent-minded behind her ear.

As Kieran went on to explain what he had picked out, Neve looked on with interest, smiling as he explained his reasoning behind each of the purchases. "I love languages, French and Italian more specifically. It's much nicer to read older texts in their original language, you don't lose the meaning in translations." She explained, a ittle bit different to Kieran's reasons, but they had something in common, which was definitely a bonus.

"Oh, I've ust got a couple of classic romance novels. We'll be studying them next year at university, but I like to have read and anotated them first. Our professor is.... intense." Never explained fondly. There was no other way of explaining Gabriel in a single word.
