Making her way up to the Astronomy Tower had been a nightmare but the moment she stepped out into the slightly chilly air, a soft smile overtook Prim's features as she made her way towards the barrier that stopped anyone from falling off the tower.

Sitting down, she pushed her legs through the open barrier and leant back on her hands to look at the night sky as she watched countless of falling stars illuminate the dark sky. She had actually only found out about this phenomenon and she hadn't had the chance to tell anyone and truthfully she just wanted to see it by herself instead of having someone muttering shocked words in her ear.

Keeping her eyes trained on the sky, the girl was so immersed in her observation that she didn't notice anyone entering the Astronomy Tower nor did she noticed anyone joining her in her observation.

Elleon tossed and turned in his bed, trying and failing to let sleep overtake him. He tried thinking about happy times, but that led to him wishing he had more of those times and comparing them with his current situation. So he tried thinking about completely nothing, but that didn't work. After what felt like hours, he gave up and sat up in his bed, running a hand over his face. He needed art. Yes. That's what he needed.

He hadn't been able to paint or draw as much lately, having to study thrice as hard as anyone else. Quickly, he threw on a light jacket over his pajamas, reasoning that nobody would be up this late so he didn't need to dress properly. He grabbed his portable paint case, brushes, art block, and pencil box, dumped them all into a bag and headed up to the astronomy tower. Perhaps if the night was clear, he'd be able to paint a landscape of space.

Excited at the prospect, he took the steps two at a time. Opening the door, his sharp eyes spotted another figure there, making him stop in his tracks. B..but...why? He looked back down the steps, debating if he should stay of leave. He bit his lip then took a few steps forward. He was already here and he wasn't about to give up painting because there was someone else there.

Now he was faced with a dilemma. Should he announce his presence? Or just sit quietly? The later option appealed to him more but that would be too creepy wouldn't it? She would hear me anyway, once I start painting. Besides, he needed a good view and he didn't have that from where he was standing. That left the first option. Taking a deep breath, he stepped forward, and set his things down. Glancing at her, he realised that she hadn't noticed him yet. Was she deaf too? Surely he had made some sounds while walking.

Taking out his notebook and a pen, he quickly scribbled a note: Do you mind if I join you?. He tapped her gently on the shoulder and showed her the note. Hopefully, the heavenly bodies produced enough light for her to read it.

Primrose, despite being in her own world, didn't startle and jump like people normally would when they were approached by someone from behind and tapped. She just hummed and turned her head, only for her eyes to fall on the piece of paper that she had been given and with a small smile, she looked upon who had joined her and nodded her head.

"That's fine with me." She said softly, slowly as she turned back towards the falling stars, her fingers splayed behind her as her hands kept her up. She remembered the boy from her lessons and she couldn't help but wonder why he was writing, biting her lower lip, Prim held back her urge to ask him the question.

She may be a Gryffindor but she was no bully and she had no plan's on making the boy feel insecure or insulted. If he wanted to tell her he would, for now she was willing to sit in the silence and continue watching the falling stars.

Elleon breathed a minute sigh of relief when the girl didn't startle. Too many times, he'd made people jump of fright when he tapped them to get their attention, forcing him to apologise for scaring them. He always had to keep in mind that not everyone liked being touched out of the blue. Of course, he could always call out to them but that meant speaking which was something Elleon wasn't entirely comfortable with.

He looked carefully at the girl after he held out the piece of paper, smiling softly when she nodded her head. He didn't catch all of her spoken words, the darkness hindering his view of her lips, but he took the nod as permission. "Thank you," he signed, holding a flat hand near his lips and moving it forward and down, almost like blowing a kiss to someone minus the puckered lips.

Elleon did not know if she knew he was Deaf. He was sure there had been talk of a deaf person in the school but he wasn't sure how fast and wide the news spread. Shrugging mentally, he set up his art materials, taking the special lamp out first and switching it on before anything else. Once he had everything set up, he turned his gaze to the stars, allowing the sight to overwhelm him and sink deep within his soul. An idea began to form in his head and he smiled, feeling the familiar adrenaline rush that came with creating something new.

Slowly but surely, the artist coaxed to life the image he had in his mind's eye.

Prim watched the boy out of the corner of her eye, most of her attention on the falling stars but the rest of it on the shorter and younger looking boy that had joined her in the Astronomy Tower. Something about him felt off and she only realised what that was when she saw the signed his thank you. Her eyes widened a tiny bit before a small smile appeared on her lips as she signed back, a bit hesitantly.

You're welcome, her signing was a bit hesitant but she had been quite sure she actually did it right. It had been mandatory for her and her fellow children at the orphanage to take a few Sign Language classes but she didn't actually keep up with it. Maybe now she could actually start learning again; after all she was quite sure the boy would like it if he could talk with someone without resorting to notes or trying to read someone's lips.

Elleon's eyes widened in surprise. This girl knew his language? Sure, it hadn't been as fluid as a native Deaf person or someone trained in the language, but Elleon appreciated any effort that Hearing people made to bridge the gap. Sometimes, he became frustrated that he was the one doing all the work; he had to read lips - and only catch about a third of what people said -  go for speech therapy, and adjust himself to the Hearing world, when it doesn't take all that much effort to learn a few basic signs, or at least the alphabet.

Ever since Jelena moved up to the next year and he got held back, Elleon found himself more lonely than ever. Their schedules and classes were different so he had no one to talk with. He only saw her at the beginning of the day, and at the end of the day. If they were lucky, they had the same break times. If they were not, Elleon muddled through the day the best he could. But now, there was a girl who knew welcome. A spark of hope lit up in him. Maybe he wouldn't be so lonely after this.

With a smile, Elleon decided he should introduce himself. "I'm E-l-l-e-o-n," he signed, making sure to go slow with the fingerspelling. From her previous signing, he knew she wasn't fluent in the language, but that didn't diminish his joy of being able to speak his language with a Hearing person. Any communication was better than no communication.

The sign language wasn't hard to learn but it wasn't easy either, you had to literally know everything and even though you may make mistakes, at times it was actually hard to decipher what you meant.

Biting her lower lip, the fourth year Gryffindor watched the boy slowly introduce himself with finger signing before she decided to do the same and just as equally slowly signed back. I'm P-R-I-M. It's nice to meet you Elleon. She had been very hesitant when signing the 'it's nice to meet you' part but she was quite sure she had actually gotten it right.

What are you drawing? She signed with a bit more confidence now, her eyes focused on his drawing pad that she had seen him take out but she hadn't wanted to be rude.

Slowly the signs and gestures were coming back to her but she knew she'd have to get some books on ASL to go back to learning it. At least now she had a perfectly good reason for wanting to that.

As she signed back to him, Elleon couldn't help the joy that shone in his eyes as his smile widened. Her signing wasn't fluent but it was better than nothing. He was just glad there there was at least one other person - besides his sister - he could talk with. It lifted a heavy weight off his shoulder and he felt that he could breathe much easier.

"Nice to meet you too," Elleon signed, holding only his pinky finger and thumb up and moving it back and forth slightly while mouthing the words. "If I may ask, how do you know sign?" Her signing wasn't fluid enough for her to have a Deaf relative or friend, and Elleon couldn't think of any other reasons she had unless it was a hobby or interest of hers.

"Oh, just the stars," he responded, offering the canvas to her to take a look. It wasn't finished yet and would probably take a few more hours to get the desired effect he wanted, but the base was there, though Elleon doubted it made much sense to anyone but him. "I couldn't sleep so I thought I'd come out here to paint."

"I have other works too, if you'd like to see them," he continued. He wasn't normally this chatty, but having found someone who could sign a little made him more exuberant than usual. He kept his signing slow and clear, moving his mouth along with the words so she could understand better.

Suddenly Prim was glad for her ability to pick up things quickly enough as she watched him sign the words while at the same time moving his mouth so that she could remember what he was saying with his signing. Catching on quickly enough the girl followed his signing to remember the way to do it.

The question caught her off guard and she had to take a few long seconds to actually decipher his words but when she did she slowly signed her answer to him. "At my orphanage it's mandatory to learn sign language just in case we get a Deaf child there." While it never happened, Prim was pretty much glad she did learn sign language.

"You're amazing!" She was quite sure her amazement was seen in both the way she signed and on her face as she looked at the picture and even though it wasn't finished, she was still amazed.

"I'd love to see them." The look on her face, she was sure, was the look of anticipation. She couldn't wait to see more of Elleon's drawings.

Her answer puzzled him and for a moment, and Elleon entertained the possibility that she might have signed wrongly. What orphanage cared enough to make all the kids in there learn sign? What orphanage was thoughtful enough to have considered the Deaf community? In all his years of experience, not many Hearing people knew about Deaf culture or even bothered to learn about it. This particular orphanage must be a very well run establishment to give such a mandate.

He considered speaking out to clarify if that was what she meant, then decided to give her the benefit of the doubt. The worst that could happen was a case of miscommunication, and Elleon knew how to handle that, having been in that situation countless times.

"And did you get a Deaf child there?" he asked curiously. Perhaps that was the reason, she could sign relatively well for a beginner. After all, "mandatory" was not a common word to learn.

A light blush began to rise in his cheeks at her compliment. He didn't show his artwork to many people, and usually only family and close friend had the privilege of seeing his pieces. "Oh, it's nothing," he responded, waving her compliment away, unsure of how else to receive them.

At her words, Elleon smiled softly, digging his sketchbook out of his bag. It was filled with random sketches of Disney characters like Simba, Bambi, Tramp, and Rapunzel. Then there were other random animals - a kitten, a leopard cub, and wolves. There were many other sketches, mostly animals, that filled the blank pages of his sketchbook.
