Full Name: Andrei Kessler
Position: The Study of Ancient Runes
Qualifications & Previous Education: Having received an E on his Ancient Runes NEWT, Andrei may not seem like an obvious choice for the professorship. However, in accruing a Bachelor's in history and Master's in Archaeology from Oxford as a young man he began to see ancient runes crop up more and more in both his work and his studies. While his Muggle colleagues looked into the literal meanings of the runes, Andrei focused on their magical meanings and properties. In this way, and through his later work on dig sites in Egypt and Eastern Europe, he has become nothing less than a leading authority on the subject.
Activity: Never fear; I'll be here.
Roleplay Example:
Silence reigned at last.
The only sound to be heard was the sharp intrusive sound of chalk on the blackboard and occasional shifting of robes as a student readjusted their seat. As expected, the class had taken some time to quiet down, but as planned Andrei had not waited for them to do so. Instead, he launched right into his lesson plan without regard for whether his class was ready or not.
After all, he thought to himself, it was not his fault that they were unwilling to come ready to learn. He hoped as they got deeper into the term that they would catch on and come in quietly. In his opinion, discipline was what made a scholar and while the class he taught was called 'The Study of Ancient Runes' he hoped to instill academic discipline more than any knowledge of the subject as, in all likelihood, very few students would pursue the subject beyond these few classes at Hogwarts.
"Welcome to introductory Ancient Runes. My name is Andrei Kessler and I will be your instructor for this term," he backed away from the board and faced the class. "Now, can anyone tell me what this says?"
He gestured vaguely to the board on which he had written a whole mess of symbols. Some looked vaguely like Latin lettering while others looked like nothing more than pictograms of birds, people, and trees. Truthfully? He'd have been impressed if they could have interpreted even a single word. So, he was not surprised by the long silence that followed as each student appeared to be looking anywhere but at their new professor in hopes of the question just going away.
"Very well," he flashed a slim conciliatory smile. "By the end of this term, you will be able to read about half of this. Ancient Runes is based on the acquisition of a vast vocabulary very different from the one you have now, so before we move into any magical application of these runes we will be learning meanings and interpretations. To better see this point please open your books to chapter one..."
