Care of Magical Creatures: Lesson One (All Years) Empty
PostSubject: Care of Magical Creatures: Lesson One (All Years)   Care of Magical Creatures: Lesson One (All Years) EmptyMon May 01, 2017 10:27 am

Another summer spent with his family, and Daniel was quite pleased to have found new staff members for the school. It was not easy keeping all the positions filled, but with two new faces, he hoped they would work well with the students, and hopefully last like many of the other professors had.

Before that, though, he was going to have to attend to his own classes. The first lesson being that of the Hippogryffs. The beasts were quite majestic, and he was sure that he would have to show them again and again before people truly understood them.

Having managed to tame three of the creatures enough to come in to the clearing for Care of Magical Creatures, Daniel only had to wait now for the students to arrive. He wasn't sure as to how many would attend, but he hoped it would be a good turn out, for the sake of learning about the Hippogryffs.

Zoey was eager to get to Care of Magical Creatures, it fascinated her, how all these creatures existed and muggles had no idea. It was harder to tame creatures than people, you couldnt always stop creatures from flying off over the heads of a muggle town. She walked down the hill toward the assigned area for the class to meet and was a bit shocked that she was the first to arrive. But she didnt mind, it showed her thirst for knowledge and eagerness to learn. She smiled at the young professor "Hello Professor Jameson." She said before pushing a strand of loose hair out of her face. She looked into the clearing and smiled when she saw the creatures "What are we learning about today sir?" Her need for information evident in the way her eyes sparkled as she spoke. SHe looked closer at the creature and smiled "Is that- Is that a hippogriff sir?" She asked

Care of Magical Creatures: Lesson One (All Years) Empty
PostSubject: Re: Care of Magical Creatures: Lesson One (All Years)   Care of Magical Creatures: Lesson One (All Years) EmptyMon May 01, 2017 5:54 pm

Another year was starting and Elyah felt... optimistic. She was growing into a lady now. She was no longer a kid. And people were slowly noticing that. First of all, her father, who was now treating her like a mature woman. Not that he was ever seeing her as a child, but he was treating her kind of differently. Good differently though, and that was acceptable. She didn't want things to change too much. Elyah had been having a lovely life with her father, and she just didn't want to lose all that just because she was growing up.

The summer was perfect. Nero -her father- had taken her to the middle East, cause Elyah being Elyah wanted adventure. They saw the pyramids and heard all about the history there and just to add more to that, Elyah forced Nero to take pictures with her, where she always made him have a funny face. Nero despised it, Elyah loved it.
And there was also Max.... and his little blonde girlfriend.
Prim was a nice girl, yes, but Elyah didn't like her. She was... too good. Which was translated into 'i'm just jealous' .
She had exchanged some letters with Max, but that was pretty much it.

And now she was making her way to Care of Magical Creatures, knowing that her best friend, was going to be there hand in hand with his girlfriend.
And it was annoying. Really, really, annoying.
Upon arrival, Elyah let out a breath when she saw that Max was not there and neither was Prim. Of course they would come in a short while since Max never skipped CoMC, but at least she had some time before the storm hit.

Max's favourite class would always be Care of Magical Creatures. So, of course, when he had found it on that morning's timetable, he'd been too happy to get there. Which meant he'd accidentally forgotten to wait for Primrose. He was sure he'd be in trouble for that later, but Prim would understand. She always seemed to know just how much this subject was to him.

Hurrying down to the clearing, Max noticed a familiar figure stood there, and hurried over to his best friend, Elyah. "Hey, Elyah!" He said happily, pulling her in to a side hug. "You look good! The Middle East agrees with you!" He said, motioning to her tan she'd earned over the summer. "Forgot to put in my letter - look!" Max insisted, pointing to the prefect badge on his chest with pride.

"Have you seen what we're-" Max cut off as his eyes fell upon the Hippogryff that they would be studying that day. "Merlin's beard..." Max breathed, moving past Elyah with a look of wonderment on his face. "Hippogryffs..." He added, eyes fixated on the large beast just behind the professor. Max's attention was firmly on the beast now.

Care of Magical Creatures: Lesson One (All Years) Empty
PostSubject: Re: Care of Magical Creatures: Lesson One (All Years)   Care of Magical Creatures: Lesson One (All Years) EmptyTue May 02, 2017 7:55 am

Summer had been beyond amazing for Sophie. She spent the time back home, telling her Grandparents everything she could about school. The rest of her time was spent with the animals that she couldn't take with her to Hogwarts: Carrots, who'd given birth to another bunch of baby bunnies; Maverick, grumpy as usual; Spots, who'd been so overjoyed at seeing her again he didn't let up on licking her face for fifteen minutes, and all the rest of them.

Summer, of course, was also the time for competitions and Sophie hadn't hesitated in joining as many as she could. She hadn't been able to practice show jumping as much while in school, not having a proper course or the tools with which to make one, but she'd clocked in a good bit of reining practice. It only took a little less than two weeks to get her show jumping back up to par, and soon she was winning all the competitions she took part in, claiming either first or second place.

And so, in a good mood from the holidays, Sophie made her way out to her favourite class. A few students were already there but it wasn't them who caught her attention. It was the Hippogriffs. Three of them to be exact. The last week of school, she'd been thumbing through her CoMC textbook and came across a picture of the animals. The information given wasn't enough to satiate her curiousity and so she had gone to the library and read up on them. If she didn't feel like she was betraying Phoenix, she would've said they were her favourite creatures. From her research, she'd discovered that they were very similar to horses and at the same time, very different.

Awestruck, she made her way to the edge of the clearing, as close as she was allowed to get. In her mind, she ran through all the information she'd read as her eyes drank in the sight of the animal. This would be the best class of the year yet. Sophie didn't think she knew of any other animal who could rival the Hippogriff for her affection - except Phoenix, of course.

Care of Magical Creatures: Lesson One (All Years) Empty
PostSubject: Re: Care of Magical Creatures: Lesson One (All Years)   Care of Magical Creatures: Lesson One (All Years) EmptyTue May 09, 2017 1:04 pm

Care of Magical Creatures was not a class that Joshua particularly enjoyed. It was not that he did not like animals, as much it was that he did not like taking the time out of his day to learn about animals. Sure, there was a handful of students who found the class fascinating, but could they not research how to properly comb a crup in their own time?

Regardless of his personal feelings towards the class, Joshua made his way through the grounds and to the meeting place of the Care of Magical Creatures course. A few students had already gathered, but it was no more than he'd expected.

Next to the professor stood what appeared to be a tall eagle-bird-dragon-horse. A hyppogryff, he'd decided. Joshua was sure that the class had gone over these creatures before, though he had more than likely not been paying attention. He knew the basics, though he was sure that the headmaster would try to teach him more.

"Eagle-horses," Joshua said to no-one in particular, with the intention of getting under someone's skin. "Where would we be without a creature with such an ego?"

Rebekah really did not feel like going to class, but she had no choice. It was either go to class or deal with a lecture from Zoey later on in the evening about the importance of going to class and learning. She did not feel like dealing with her mini mother, so off to class she went.

She walked into the clearing and raised an eyebrow at the creatures standing there, "Why are we learning about giant chickens?" She asked unsure as to what exactly the creatures were. She then heard a few students mumble about what the creatures were. Hippogriffs. Ok, so thats what they were called, good to know.

She heard one of her housemates make a snarky comment and she smirked as she walked over to him "Now now, some people have egos and are still pretty awesome." She said referring to herself more than anyone else.

Care of Magical Creatures: Lesson One (All Years) Empty
PostSubject: Re: Care of Magical Creatures: Lesson One (All Years)   Care of Magical Creatures: Lesson One (All Years) EmptyTue May 09, 2017 4:21 pm

Today was going to be the first day of his first elective. Last year when he'd been told he'd have to select other classes to attend, Shaun had asked some of his housemates for advice, as well as his father. They both had gone over the options and asked a few of the adults about the wizard jobs. While he still had no idea what he wanted to do, he had decided to take the Care of Magical Creatures. During the past two summers he'd helped out at his father's veterinary clinic, and while he didn't dislike animals, they weren't something he was overjoyed with. It hadn't crossed his mind until after he'd signed up for this class and bought his book that Shaun thought he might not like this class at all. In his head he was saying, 'Please not, spiders, please not spiders.' If the book was to be believed they had spiders as big as houses here!

Having walked across the grounds, he spotted where they were supposed to go and was curious about what they were going to be taught as well as slightly dreading it. Loitering at the edges, he peered at the things they were studying and felt his mouth drop open. Before he could form a thought or remark on the creatures an older Hufflepuff student summed up what he'd first thought they were: eagles horses. And the Hufflepuff girl tacked on about the chickens which in all honesty is also what they reminded him of. A giant mutant love child of a chicken, horse, and eagle. Shaun felt himself relax a little bit glad that they weren't studying spiders.

Care of Magical Creatures: Lesson One (All Years) Empty
PostSubject: Re: Care of Magical Creatures: Lesson One (All Years)   Care of Magical Creatures: Lesson One (All Years) EmptySat May 13, 2017 12:35 pm

The first student to arrive was a very eager Ravenclaw who asked as to what they would be studying today. Before Daniel could give her an answer, though, the young witch had asked another question, identifying the beast they would be studying correctly. "Yes, Zoey, it is a Hippogryff." Daniel told her with a smile.

As more students arrived, Daniel was not surprised to see Max looking at the beast fondly, nor to find Sophie doing much the same. It was obvious to Daniel that both of the Gryffindors had a love for animals. A few others arrived, and Daniel ignored the comments from Joshua, writing it off as stupid, attention-seeking comments that he would not like to deal with.

"Okay, good morning everyone!" The Headmaster greeted his students with a warm smile, looking through the faces of those who'd decided to turn up. "I hope you all had a great summer, and that you're ready for the new lessons to begin. Today, we will be looking at these beautiful creatures behind me.

"As a few of you have already pointed out, they are Hippogryffs. Beautiful creatures, with an ego larger than life. They expect to be treated with respect, and if you do not heed to these expectations, I can assure you that you will find yourself on a one way trip to the Hospital Wing." Daniel told them, not dallying on the subject of how dangerous these beasts were.

"Now then, who can tell me what a Hippogryff is? Which animals have made this beautiful hybrid of a beast? Who knows how to deal with the beast? Their diet? How do you care for them?" He asked, looking around expectantly for people to answer the question posed.

Care of Magical Creatures: Lesson One (All Years) Empty
PostSubject: Re: Care of Magical Creatures: Lesson One (All Years)   Care of Magical Creatures: Lesson One (All Years) EmptySun May 14, 2017 5:15 pm

The moment Professor Jameson started speaking, Sophie listened closely although she didn't take her eyes off the Hippogryffs. She just couldn't. They were too stunning and she would've already approached them if she didn't know that doing that might have her removed from the class. As such, it took all the self-control she had to stay where she was, even if she had plenty of practice doing just that in her exercises with Phoenix.

A few of Professor Jameson's words jumped out at her. They expect to be treated with respect. Same as horses, only, not all horses would react as violently as a Hippogryff would if their expectations weren't met. She knew of a horse who'd refused to be saddled because the owner had been too rough with her. In half an hour, Sophie managed to ride her bareback. In another half an hour, Sophie had the saddle strapped on. All it took was mutual respect and trust.

But she also understood that Hippogryffs were infinitely more dangerous than horses - and that was saying something considering she knew how much hurt a horse could cause when agitated.

The Professor then began asking them questions, all of which Sophie knew how to answer from the research she'd done, but not wanting to look like a show-off or a know-it-all, she chose to answer only one. "You gotta bow to them and wait for them to bow back to you," she began, glancing away from the creatures just long enough to meet Professor Jameson's eyes. Just like how I asked Molly's permission before I put the saddle on her she thought to herself. She really loved the idea of bowing to the animals. "And you must look 'em in the eye and let 'em move first."

That part wasn't so true for horses; staring them in the eyes meant you were a threat to them and when she worked with any horse for the first time, she always had to keep her gaze just near the shoulder. Sophie had to remind herself yet again, that the two species were different.
