| 10b. After assuring Professor Loverin that you are alright, you take a few moments to readjust to the dimness of the area. Look around, you find that you are in the middle of a small hallway. In front of you is a door with a note on it.
Your next task brings you into the lake. Choose wisely. To your left is what appears to be a dead tree stump on top of a bottle of something green. From where you are, it looks like slimy, grey-green rat tails. There’s a label on the jar, but you can’t make it out from here.
To your right is a small table with ingredients and a cauldron in the middle of it. There’s a piece of parchment beside it, and while it appears to be a list of instructions, you can’t read what the potion is or how to make it.Which do you choose?
a) Investigate the potions table b) Investigate the mysterious jar under the stump

| Once she'd felt well enough to get up, Stephanie thanked the professor for his concern and glanced around her, trying to get her bearings. It appeared that she'd landed in a hallway. The first thing her eyes landed on was the note on the door. She approached it carefully, wary of anything that might jump out at her again. When she reached the door without any mishaps, she breathed more easily and read what was written. Choose wisely? How would that help her at all?
Frowning a little, she glanced around, seeing that one her left was a tree stump. From this distance, all she could see was what looked like a jar of rat tails. Disgusting, she thought to herself, scrunching her nose up and turning her head away. The next sight was more welcome, a potions table with what looked like instructions. Stephanie didn't have second thoughts, heading straight for the potions table. After the incident with the plant, she wanted to be careful.
She didn't really enjoy potions, but she was good enough in all her classes. Most of her potions turned out well and she had yet to fail in making one.

| 11a. You decide to go with the potions table. Once there, you pick up the parchment and read the instructions. It describes a potion that allows you to breathe underwater! It will take about an hour to brew, which means you will be delayed by some time, but it is an easy potion and not one that can be messed up easily, so there isn’t much chance of it going too wrong.- ”The instructions for brewing is:”:
1) Measure out 1500mL of standard potioning water and bring to boil
2) Once water is boiling, add three drops of morning dew
3) Let boil until potion is dark blue
4) Once potion is dark blue, add one lionfish spine
5) Stir counterclockwise four times
6) Add three pinches of octopus power
7) Slowly stir counterclockwise until light brown
8 ) Stir clockwise five times
9) Let boil for another five minutes
10) Turn off heat and add one teaspoon of dried seaweed powder (the potion should turn dark green)
11) Stir counterclockwise twelve times
12) Allow potion to cool, stirring it clockwise three times every two minutes
13) Once cool (no heat is felt when hand is placed above potion) add three sea serpent scales
14) Stir twice counterclockwise
15) Stir twice clockwise (upon the last stir, the potion should lighten in colour)
16) Remove one cup worth of the brew
17) To the cup, add one drop of diluted sea serpent venom
18) Drink the entire cup
If the potion was brewed correctly, the potion should taste like dried seaweed and be slightly spicy like pepper. A tingling sensation should be felt throughout the body and vision will be slightly blurry for a few minutes before clearing up. The skin should also feel slightly rubbery (this is the insulation).
What do you do?
a) Brew potion (write the successful brewing of potion in your post to continue) b) Go over to Investigate the mysterious jar under the stump instead

| Reaching the potions table, Stephanie picked up the instructions. It was rather lengthy and as she read through it, she realised it required a lot of precision, but it seemed doable. She just had to be very careful not to mess it up. Putting the parchment down, she gathered her hair into a neat bun and began on the potion.
Taking the measuring cup, she poured out the required amount of potioning water, doing it a few times to get it exactly at 1500mL. She poured it into the cauldron and turned the heat on, reading through the next few steps and memorising them while she waited for the water to boil. Ready with the morning dew, she added in three drops and set it aside once she was done. In a normal potions class, she would be chatting with her friends while waiting for a potion to respond. Here, she was alone with no professor to help her if she messed up, so she kept her attention on the potion.
Once it turned a dark blue, she added the lionfish spine, stirring the liquid counterclockwise four times before adding three pinches of octopus powder. She hated anything measuring system to do with pinches. One person's pinch was different from another person's pinch, and she had slender fingers, but she brushed that thought aside, continuing with the seventh step.
Slowly, she stirred the potion counterclockwise util the was a light brown colour, then she changed direction and stirred it clockwise five times. She set the timer for five minutes and once it range, she turned the heat off and added one teaspoon of dried seaweed powder, watching as the potion turned green.
Taking the ladle, she stirred the liquid counterclockwise, counting out loud until she reached twelve and left it to cool. She set the timer for two minutes, stirring the potion three times once it rang, and setting the timer again for another two minutes. After every set of timer-stir, she lifted her hand above the potion, and once she felt no heat, she put in three serpent scales.
She stirred the potion counterclockwise two times then clockwise another two times, watching with bated breath to see if the potion would turn lighter. As it did, she exhaled, relieved to know that she'd done it right so far.
She picked up the cup and dipped it into the potion, adding one drop of the sea serpent venom ot it. Putting it to her lips, she drank it, fighting against gagging at the taste of dried seaweed. It was downright disgusting but she finished it. Soon after downing the potion, she felt her whole body tingling, her vision starting to blur. She didn't panic, knowing that it was the effects of the potion and was prepared for the effects this time.
Her vision cleared and she felt her skin, grunting in disgust when her once soft and perfect skin was now rubbery. She only hoped that it would last long enough for her to do whatever needed to be done and that the effect would fade quickly after that.

| 13a You finish brewing the potion and drink it. It seems to take effect and you leave the hall through the door, making your way down to the Black Lake. Reaching the shore you look around and notice there is a sign post that has never been there before. Beneath it is a locked box. The sign post explains that the box is magically locked and can only be opened with the key -- which is located somewhere in the marked out section of the lake.
It goes on to tell you that there are three areas for you to explore. The first is the kelp forest. The second is a rock pile. The third is a small cave. It ends wishing you luck and adds that if you run into trouble to shoot red sparks from your wand; the merpeople on standby will assist you.
You enter the water and find that you don’t feel cold nor do your clothes get wet. You start to swim downwards, and soon find yourself facing the decision of which area to search first.
Where do you go?

| After drinking the potion and waiting for the effects to take root, Stephanie made her way out of the hall and to the Black Lake. The Lake didn't bring pleasant memories for her. The last time she was here, she and Toryn had a blown up argument about everything in Stephanie's life. Everything she knew to be true, everything she believed in had been opposed by Toryn and his Muggle views. She'd at first been very angry and had said some nasty things, but she'd thought it through after calming down and she had to reluctantly admit to herself that he did have a point. Several points in fact.
Reaching the Lake, Stephanie tried to suppress her memories. Now wasn't the time to bring it up. She had a mission to complete and she was determined to finish it. Glancing around, she noticed the sign. The instructions were simple enough; pick either the kelp forest, rock pile, or cave to search for the key. It didn't seem too hard and yet Stephanie knew that dangerous creatures inhabited the waters of the Black Lake.
Not wanting to spoil her nails digging through rocks, Stephanie dived into the water and headed for the kelp forest. It seemed to be the safest place to search and the hardest place to find a key. The kelp could easily hide something as small as that. One thing she was grateful for was that she didn't feel the cold from the water. She congratulated herself further on making the right decision of the potion when she realised that her clothes also weren't wet. That was definitely a bonus. All of Stephanie's clothes were expensive, tailored and made especially for her; no one had the clothes that she had. To have it destroyed by disgusting lake water would be a huge waste.

| 14a Deciding to start in the kelp forest, you head to the thick mass of green seaweed and begin your search. After a long time swimming in and out of the green mass, searching for the key, you come up short. The most interesting thing you find is a herd of flying seahorses that seem to want to play with you, but you ignore them and keep searching. Still finding nothing, you decide to head back to the start only to find you are lost! Looking around all you can see is green surrounding you and you have no idea how to get back to the starting point. For a while, you wander around until you spot a break in the green and swim there quickly. You’re finally back at the start! You have two options left. Where do you go? a) The rock pile b) The small cave (OOC: At the end of your post, please make your choice clear by writing it in another colour, or bolded.) | |

| The feeling of the seaweed brushing against her skin made goosebumps pimple on Stephanie's skin. She pushed the mass of plants aside, feeling as if insects were crawling everywhere the leaves touched her. She started her searche methodically, mentally dividing up the area into a grid and going row by row as she searched for the key. As time passed and her search turned up nothing, she worried that the potion's effect would run out. How long did it last anyway?
Besides the seahorses - which she didn't really find amusing - she didn't see anything else that caught her eye. Sighing as well as she could underwater, Stephanie decided to go back to where she started search a different place. Only, she had no idea where she was. Was it that way? she thought, swimming a few strokes before pausing. No, can't be. Maybe..but I don't..where..ugh, everything looks the same! And everything did look the same. All her around was just a mass of seaweed and she couldn't see anything besides green and more green.
Starting to panic because she didn't know how long she had to breathe underwater, Stephanie began pushing through the kelp frantically. Anything was better than staying still; if she kept moving, she would eventually get out of the thick growth. Right?
It was then that she remembered that the sign had said to shoot red sparks and merpeople would help her. Taking her wand out, Stephanie was just about to produce red sparks when she looked up and spotted the end of the eternal green. Almost crying in relief, she swam as fast as she could, kicking away the kelp that had somehow entangled around her.
Reaching the start, she took a moment to consider her next choice. The kelp forest had been a complete disaster. She wasn't about to destroy her nails on rocks, so perhaps the small cave was the answer? Plus, she wouldn't get lost there. Her mind made up, Stephanie headed towards her decision.
b) The small cave |

| 16b Deciding to try the cave next, you swim towards it. It’s badly lit and small, and you take a moment to adjust to the light. Something glimmers at the very back. You just manage to make out the shape of a key hanging on the wall! It seems that the cave was the smart choice, and you move forward to take the key. Suddenly, something darts out from a small crevice hidden at the back. It’s a small creature, green in colour, long tentacle like fingers moving around it. It’s a grindylow! It bears its teeth at you. The key seems to be under its protection. If you want it, you have to fight it. As you prepare to do so a second thought hits you -- you could always ask the merpeople for help. What do you do? a) Fight the creature yourself b) Ask the merpeople for help (OOC: At the end of your post, please make your choice clear by writing it in another colour, or bolded.) | |

| Hoping that she'd made the right choice, Stephanie swam as quickly as she could to the cave. It was dark and she could barely see but she waited until her eyes adjusted. As she glanced around, something caught her eye. Squinting a little, she saw that it was what looked like a key. Could that be what she was supposed to take? There was only one way to find out. Swimming a little closer, Stephanie reached out to take the key when a movement made her pause.
Glancing to the side, she saw that it was a grindylow, its tentacles and teeth sent her retreating a few strokes. There was no way she could get the key without getting rid of it. She took out her wand ready to cast a spell when she remembered what the sign said, to ask for help if she ever ran into trouble. She knew that merpeople tamed grindylows but this was just one grindylow and she'd learned how to repel them in class. She just had to use the Revulsion Jinx and she could get the key. After all, wasn't this whole thing a way for her to test herself, to know what she was capable of beyond being a Richardson?
Steeling herself, Stephanie pointed the wand at the grindylow, ready to release the spell.
a) Fight the creature yourself
