There were not a lot of things that Tess knew she was bad at. Taking care of another living thing apart from herself was at the top of the list of possible failures. During Hogwarts she refused to own a pet, in fear of breaking something. And now she was roped into taking care of a fox kit.

The poor thing was still teething and it was a greedy little thing drank a lot of milk. Tess needed a cot, bottles and blankets and she knew that this was the only place to find it. Mulling over the items she tried not to be too overwhelmed.

"A basket" she whispered softly to herself.

Grilling it tightly she gave up on trying to be logical and instead just began piling things on. Three blankets seemed enough. Eight bottles? One for a day plus an extra one. A bed? She would get three so the kit could decide on how her favorite.

Clarinda had been busy the past few weeks, unwillingly neglecting going shopping for necessities due to a sudden outbreak of some sort of curse among the children. She and her team had finally tracked the source of it to cheap, street-corner replicas of fake wands that were supposed to merely turn into chickens; however, due to a faulty spell being used to make it, it backfired and caused the user to spit out feathers for a week. While uncomfortable, it didn't cause much (if any) permanent harm if treated quickly and well.

She'd spoken to Kamren about it, naturally, and within a few days of her finding out the cause, all the fake fake wands had been taken off the streets and the distributers charged.

It was only now that she was finally able to attend to the chores that had piled up on her list. Sure, Kamren had helped out where possible, and Lux had, too, but there was no mistaking that Clarinda found joy in daily tasks like grocery shopping. Stepping into the Magical Menagerie, she glanced around, looking for the owl treats she wanted to buy and noted someone rather familiar. A moment later, the faces clicked, and Clarinda smiled. It was one of the newest hires in St. Mungo's; she'd seen the application a while back.

"Tess, am I right?" she greeted, stepping over. She paused, offered her a hand. "I recognised you; I'm one of the hospital staff you'll be working alongside. I'm Clarinda; it's nice to meet you."

This was too much. The smells were intense, from the fresh fishes to the salt water, and all the rodents in between. While Tess had always had a soft spot for animals, it seemed all the more real as she was picking things out. She had yet to really name the Kit in fear of getting too attached to it, but when the little thing looked up at her, she felt something twist inside. Rhian was overly amused over all of it and even mentioned that she figured that Tess would make a great foster mother, much to Tess' shock.

Warmth and Tess did not go hand in hand. She was loyal, and fiercely protective, but there were only a handful of people who went beyond their way  to worm their way into her heart.

'If I have one' She thought amused.

Still once more she out the basket into a cart knowing that it was going to be a lot more than expected. It was the moment she was looking at proper formulas when someone began to speak to her. At first she was surprised at someone giving her the light of day, evenmoreso when they recognized her.

"I recognised you; I'm one of the hospital staff you'll be working alongside. I'm Clarinda; it's nice to meet you."

As the woman stuck out her hand, Tess immediately took it. If it was something related to work, then she was on board for being as polite as possible.

"It's a pleasure" she said softly. Formal was good, safe and something she could do wonderfully in.  "If I may ask, what brings you here?"
