The art exhibition was over but that didn't mean Grandpa's work was. Apparently he had to meet several different people and talk about his work. How much could one even talk about taking pictures, Mimosa didn't understand but grownups always made things more complicated than they had to be. The child had waited patiently for two days, occupying her time with the questions that nice witch from the museum had posed. She was sure she had formed a very good answer by now but just in case, Mimosa was going to think a little more.

Of course, no matter how determined, an almost nine year old couldn't be content with thought alone so when on the third day Kit had announced that he had even more meetings, the child had put her tiny foot down, demanding to go home to Clara if her grandfather refused to make time for her. The tantrum had resulted in Kit agreeing to bring Mimosa along to his meeting which - far from being entertaining - had bored the little witch stiff. Something about a series on British flora in the various seasons.

Still, she had insisted on accompanying him so she couldn't very well admit defeat by making a face and confessing how bored she was. Luckily, Kit had always knows what was on her mind without her having to say it out loud.

"How about we go for ice cream, afterwords?" the wizard offered with a kind smile, brightening up the child's mood considerably. At her age, few things worked better than ice cream to combat all of life's problems.

"I want two," Mimosa quickly requested, only for the photographer to shake his head.

"Alright, why don't you go ahead and pick us out a nice table and I'll meet you there in five," the man instructed, his American accent clear amid the sea of English voices all around. Pointing to the ice cream parlor around the corner, he watched her run in and find a table. Once certain she was safely inside and seated, the wizard ducked into a shop beside the Establishment, finishing some last minute dealings.

Mimosa on her part was feeling terribly important, having been given the important job of picking the right table, she made sure to pick one with a lime green umbrella over it. the small plastic table would easily seat two. Deciding this would be her spot, the small girl waited, looking all around her to gauge what kind of treat she wanted by looking at what all the other people were eating.

A wince crossed his features as he reached out and took the ice cream cone.  Transferring it quickly to his left hand, the man grabbed his cane with the right.  Leaning heavily and breathing a little harder than he would have liked he moved away from the counter having already payed.

His blonde hair was longer now than normal, in dire need of a trim.  A little more scruffy than he liked as well, but until he landed a job opportunity he saw little reason to really do more.  He was still comfortable.....well for another month or two if his math was right.

With the cane the task of maneuvering the tables, chairs, and midgets (aka children) was harder than dodging an angry half veela after dinner and no owl the next day.  Still he was doing his best with only minor bumps.  His right side continued to throb, a place that by all accounts should have been healed by now.  Alas, he was told patience and keeping his mind off of it was the best medicine, a bunch of crock from healers who didn't know a needle from a niffler.

"Excuse me, pardon me". He would say multiple times, his mid west American accent standing out in the crowd.  Though what made him stand out even more was his lack of robes.  Instead dressed in khaki pants, a white button up shirt, with a black tie.  Call it habit, but wearing those dresses just wouldn't do until he had to.

Spying a table off to his right with a bright orange umbrella he made his way towards it.  Only one pint sized human near it, so by his estimation should be quite enough.  Just as he was about to get to it, an unlucky chair was pushed out and caught the bottom tip of his cane.  The fall was stupendous, in terms of sheer velocity one would have a harder time demonstrating being vertical to horizontal in such a smooth motion.

A groan escaped his lips as his eyes winced feeling the pain in his side explode three fold.  Squinting, all he could see was the simple vanilla ice cream began to melt on the cobblestone, making a little river that was destined to be made of sorrow rather than sugary happiness.  Laying there while a couple people looked over, he contemplated if it was worth it to get up, or just commiserate a little longer.

The child was quite comfortably seated when a loud crash accosted her ears, making her look down from the giant pictures of various ice creams plastered above the counters. A pity, she really was ready to make up her mind on a pink strawberry concoction... Or the chocolate one with rainbow sprinkles... Or the grape lolly with green swirls. Maybe she would get all three, she hadn't had lunch yet after all, and Grandpa must feel bad for boring her so.

But the ice cream decisions were cast aside when the child's blue eyes landed on the grown up that had fallen down, her frame automatically shuddering at the imagined pain. Mimosa had fallen down plenty of times in her life so she knew it hurt lots and lots. that's why Clara kept her all wrapped up in jackets and long trousers. Maybe this man needed Clara to dress him up?

The child fully suspected more grown ups would come to help, so when no one did, she looked on in surprise. Maybe grown ups in England were strange. Leaving her table, she walked to the grown up on the floor. "Hello sir," she greeted politely, her small face torn equally in concern and hesitation. "Are you alright, do you need help getting up?" Quietly, she would extend a small arm towards the man, quite certain that she was strong enough to drag a fully grown wizard to his feet.

Sheer sorrow flashed on the child's face when her eyes landed on the fallen ice cream that must have belonged to this man, no one deserved that. "Please don't be sad," she added, patting his arm awkwardly. "My grandpa will be here in a minute and he'll buy us both ice creams. I asked for two so you can have one of mine."

Watching his hopes and dreams run down the drain, aka the ice cream, Quinn felt that his time to self loath on the cobblestone was coming to a close.  As he was giving himself a mental talking to to stand up, a high pitched voice accosted his ears.  Glancing up he saw one of those half humans asking if he needed help up.

It wasn't that he didn't like children, they were necessary and all.  However before the age of around 10 they were typically just a little much for him.  That being said, he wasn't rude.  It should also be mentioned here as a cautionary tale, he knows nothing of children.

"Sure.....". He would say reaching his good hand up.  Maneuvering to er his knees underneath and his forehead on the ground to hide his grimace he started to pull up.  However, not taking into account the child like strength.....he'd pull them both to the ground.  The resulting light in shot of pain caused a short string of curses, involving where the ice cream could have gone in another life.

The second attempt was more fruitful, though he didn't use the child this time.  Standing he would plop into one of the nearby chairs, rubbing his side, breathing heavily.  "That's......ok....I...can get......another one."  He would say speaking to her like she was an adult, mostly because he didn't know how to speak to a child.

"What if I give you the money, and you go get us both something while I sit here?  You can order solo right?"  He would ask her, pulling out his wallet.  He'd hand the little girl a wad of money, some muggle both of American and British origin, and some wizarding.  His head was swimming and he couldn't be bothered to count it.  Around 55 dollars muggle and 10 galleons wizard in total.  "Just.....get me anything."  He would rest his head back against the back of his chair, starring at the sky for a moment.

As soon as the man grabbed her arm, pain shot through the child, pain that was a lot worse than accidentally missing a step going down or kicking a rock that was too big or heavy to kick. No, this pain was sharp and made the girl let out a loud cry a she came tumbling down right with he man who had lost his ice cream. The landing didn't help either, crashing the girl's small body against the hard cobblestones. There would be multiple bruises later, she knew.

Mimosa's first instinct at the jarring sensation was to cry. In fact, the girl was all set. Her ethereal blue eyes rimmed red with unshod tears and her naturally symmetrical, blemish free face crumpled up as a precursor to the howling that would soon ensue. Even her tiny lips were parted, all ready to give way to the sobs that were going to come any second.

And then the wizard started speaking. not to her, but he used some words the child recognized, and others she most certainly did not. The shock of the language alone made her mouth snap shut even as tears ran down her eyes, her body screaming in pain. Wiping at the liquid hastily, the girl looked up at him with big, surprised eyes.

How would an ice cream even go.... there?

Following his lead, Mimosa dragged herself up too, reaching for the chair to help her just like she'd seen the older wizard do. He was in a lot of pain too and if he wasn't crying, neither wold she. She was almost nine now, just as good as a grown up after all.

The other clientele of the small parlor had finally taken notice when a child was involved, but upon seeing her get back up to her feet and join the older wizard, they returned to their ice creams and conversations. It seemed English people would go to great lengths to avoid a scene.

Her tears would have been a problem, had the man not offered to buy her an ice ream. At the notion, Mimosa swiped at the last of her tears, nodding her tiny head at being able to order on her own. Before she knew it, he was shoving a stack of bills in her hand, and some coins she recognized. Not exactly sure what to do, the child simply nodded and walked to the bar, hoping moving a bit will help heal the bruises.

"Watcher love, what can I get you?" the kind lady at the bar asked, making Mimosa ponder her choice, glancing up a the pictures over the counter once more.

"One.. seewt chrey..." she tried before giving up and pointing to the picture. A cherry flavored shaved ice with fruits on top and then a banana split sundae. Once her order was ready, the girl handed her all the bills in her hand."

"Would you like to donate some of the money, it goes to toys for children who can't afford them," the kindly witch offered. Mimosa nodded her head, stuffing the remainder of the money into the box she was directed to. Carrying both her ice cream orders, she made her way back to the table.

"I got one white one and one pink one, I think you should try the pink one," she spoke, pushing the shaved ice towards him before taking a seat opposite the blonde man. "My name is Mimosa," she informed him. "I'm almost nine," she added, holding up that many fingers to highlight her point.

Her earlier strife was now inconsequential in the face of ice cream. "What's your name? And are you wearing tall shoes? I always fall down when i wear really high shoes," she offered sympathetically as she dug a spoon into her sundae. "Where are your mom and dad, are you lost, Sir?"

His breaths were starting to come in line now.  His eyes opening and taking in the sky.  If he say still and could be lost in the moment a bit longer perhaps the pain would truly settle.........nope.  His eyes winced as that high pitched voice returned quicker than expected.

Looking down he wild see the little woman.....girl....kid?  Sitting across from him with two distinct types of treats.  "Ummm sure.......". He would say taking the pink one.  Looking at it he hoped it was strawberry and not cherry, he absolutely couldn't stand cherry, and this day could start to turn around anytime now.  He could vaguely hear her start to question him as he reached into his back pocket and pulled out the paper, spreading it out.  Using the treat he'd hold down one corner to prevent the wind from blowing it to much.

"My names Quinn, I'm almost old enough to think that's cute."  He would say a little plainly.  Making a dry joke, not anticipating that she may or may not be offended or even understand it's a joke.  "Actually I am a little lost.  My mom and dad though are back in the US."  He would say scanning the paper and flipping to the job postings.

He was comfortable, for now.  Though that time would come to a close.  He just needed something to keep him going and allow him time to heal, and eventually return to training.  Taking the spoon he got some on it, letting it twirl between his finger tips.  Despite this motion not spilling a drop.  Several jobs......none of them something he would want though.

"Ayy where's the change?"  He would ask her as he took a bite.  The look on his face instantly showing he was repulsed by the flavor.

Almost old enough? Mimosa never did understand why adults were so secretive about their age. This guy should learn from Victoria who had simply stated a number when asked how old she was. Besides, he couldn't be that old if he wasn't all that much taller than she was. The child eyed him curiously, yes definitely not tall enough to be a full full grown up.

"Oh," she latched on to the information about his parents. "My Clara is in the US too," she interjected excitedly, raising her voice to a higher pitch as she discovered she and the ice cream man had something in common. "We live in Cali-fornya, Grandpa, Clara and I. Where do your mom and Dad live, Quinn?" However it was worrying that he was lost. the little witch thought for a moment, resting her chin on her tiny palms as she pondered her dilemma.

"If you want, I can take you to this inn, they have maps and people who tell you directions. If you talk to them, you won't be lost anymore?" she suggested kindly, glad that she could help him somehow. The child let out a giggle as he made a funny face upon eating his treat, he clearly enjoyed it very much. Mimosa had to resist patting herself on the back for a job well done.

A small frown of confusion marred her smooth forehead when he asked about the change. "What change?" the brown haired little girl asked innocently, blue eyes staring at the man as her spoon paused halfway up to her mouth. "Oh, the bills? I gave them to kids who couldn't buy toys. The lady at the counter says thank you very much," the child explained offhandedly. Why this man didn't have cards was beyond ehr. Grandpa and Clara always had cards.

Taking another bite of her yummy sundae, she waited as he looked through the paper, hoping he would stop reading soon. Reading was boring. "Do you like England?" she asked when Quinn showed no signs of interrupting his reading. "This is my second time here but I think I prefer home." Screwing up her nose she added "It rains too much here, and I miss the beach."

"Not that kind of lost..". He'd say absent handedly without looking at her.  He pushed the ice cream over to her with a small grunt and would let her just have both of them.  When she mentioned her Clara whoever that is he merely nodded with an obligatory "mhm mhm mhm". Mostly he was happy letting her gibber jabber away while he read.

There just wasn't anything jumping out at him for something he could do.  His hand absentmindedly rubbed at his injury.  When she mentioned the absence of any change he felt his jaw drop.  Perhaps he was going to need to find that job even faster.  She continued on like this was no big deal and he considered how best to handle the situation.  Did you yell at kids?  Did you spank them?  Did you just say you were disappointed......honestly the whole scenario was just a little ridiculous.

"Listen Mimo was it?  What if you go back to the counter, get me a drink and get the money back from the tin mmk.....tell the lady it was a mistake.  If you can do that, I'll......illl..........buy you a stuffed animal...or something."  He would say looking at the tending ice cream guardian.  She didn't look fast surely the little girl could pull off the heist to get back his rent.  "If you can do all that, well I'll even.......umm be your friend I don't know."  This whole day was so weird.  Crumpling the paper he would give it a toss and watch it fall into the nearest waste bin.

The little witch continued to look on in confusion at the man as he made a funny face, unsure if he was trying to amuse her or if his face just looked like that sometimes. Usually she was very good at telling but Quinn was strange. The idea made her want to giggle but something told her that would be very bad idea right now.

When he asked for a drink, the child reached into her designer bag, pulling out a pink barbie water bottle full to the brim. Trying not to wince in pain, she gently pushed the water bottle towards him. "This is a drink," she clarified, sure that she was helping.

His request of asking for the bills back was one however she didn't know how to comply with. Why would be need the coins back? "It's not nice to take things from children who don't even have toys," she admonished gently. He was probably just mistaken. Reaching into the pocket of her clearly expensive jacket, she pulled out a card. Should he be in any way familiar with international, exchangeable currency, he would understand its meaning.

"You can have this if you like. My grandpa has lots, he will give me another one." Should he take the card, she would let him. Should he refuse, she would continue regardless.

"And my name isn't Mimo. It's Mimosa. Mim-oh-sah," she pronounced just in case he couldn't hear very well. "You shouldn't shorten people's names without asking, Sir. How would you feel if I called you Quee instead of Quinn?" she asked rather seriously for a child her age.

Pushing the water bottle back to her he simply said, "no thanks, I don't drink water."  The bottle didn't have anything to do with it, mostly the fact that he hated water.

When she offered him the card he looked around, starting to wonder if this was a set up.  Was the law watching him and seeing what he was doing, or was this little girl not very smart.  He wasn't sure, and he wasn't willing to take the risk, even though this meant he'd be out of a home a month quicker than expected.  "Umm no you can keep that."  He would say considering if he could go get his money back from the till.

Her odd pronouncement  of his name brought him back to the conversation at hand.  "Well for starters it would be Qui not Quee." Very clearly emphasizing the difference.  "And secondly, I'd have given you points for thinking on your feet Mimo."  He would say looking around at the hustle and bustle of the street.  Sighing he would drop his head to bang on the table.  "You wouldn't know of any decent job openings around would you?"

It would normally be odd to sit at a table with a 9 year old and speak to her like an adult.  However, he was to tired, to sore, and a touch to forlorn to really consider it at the moment.

"You don't drink water?" the girl repeated, once again caught between confusion and concern. "But water's good for you. My Clara says if you don't drink enough water, you get ill." But then again, she had gotten ill, hadn't she? Maybe that's why she had to have all those surgeries as a baby, because she hadn't drank enough water.

When he refused the offer to of her card, Mimosa took as back. Maybe he didn't know how the card worked. She couldn't blame him, she didn't know either. She just know Grandpa made her keep one at all times. If Quinn had a grandpa, he would know stuff too. And he wouldn't be lost.

"But you name isn't Qui," she pointed out, trying to make sense of his reasoning and failing. "It's Quinn, just as mine is Mimosa. And I always think on my feet, except when I'm siting down, then I think on... my seat." she concluded with finality. For a moment, he looked like he was going to sleep, at least from the way he put his head down on the table.

"I think..." she began tentatively, considering his question with all the seriousness an almost nine year old can muster. "You have to go to school to get a job. You go to school and pick a subject you like and then you can get a job in it when you're a grown up." Of course Quinn would have to study first, he wasn't a grown up yet.

"But I don't know any schools in the UK. I know one in America? It's called Salem Academy and I think it's very good. Do you want to go there?"

"Listen....". He would say taking a very serious tone.  "Adults just tell you water is good for you.  It's a myth so you don't go after the good stuff.  That's a fact."  He would continue to look seriously at her for a moment before his mind wandered and he began to look around, still considering his options.

Thievery seemed a legitimate option at the moment sadly.  Though he doubted the till had any magical defenses, one never knew.  Charity organizations had a tendency to be cesspools of greed and corruption.

It was her next comments that sparked an idea.  The school, well that was a place he hadn't checked yet.  There was Hogwarts, widely considered to be one of the best schools, though he was a little biased so in his mind top three maybe.  Maybe they needed security, or an assistant defense teacher, or perhaps they had some kind of opening.  A place like that, that would be an excellent place to still practice, and have time.  Maybe this pint sized human wasn't useless after all......until her last comment.

"Excuse me?  What did you say?  Salem is NOT a good school.  It's for dregs and washouts."  He would say looking back at the girl.  "Only American school worth its colors is Ilvermony."  He would finish.  He'd heard of Salem, he'd met people from Salem, and they were left wanting.  His quarterfinal match for the American top spot had been against someone from Salem........he'd finished in two spells.  Easier than the first round, how they even stayed credentialed was beyond him.  At least, that was his opinion.

Waving his wand he pulled another paper over.  Looking at it he recognized it as the Daily Prophet.  Not his favorite reading, but alas.  Taking the top several pages off, he handed them to the girl and started to scan the job sections looking to see if the girls comments had sparked him in the right direction.

Mimosa's blue eyes grew wide at the mention of a conspiracy. Why would adults lie to everyone? What did they get out of people drinking more water? What exactly was the "good stuff" Quinn mentioned? Sadly the girl didn't get the answer to any of her questions as the blonde wizard simply lost track of the conversation, ending it at a most infuriating cliff hanger. She'd have to ask Grandpa or Clara later to clarify the matter for her.

"Excuse me? What did you say?"

The little witch opened her mouth, happy to repeat herself in case this guy was slow at understanding. Maybe it was her Californya accent. She sometimes had trouble understanding the accent here after all. But before she could say it again, the taller wizard continued, saying very confusing things about Salem. The young brunette frowned for a moment before she finally understood.

"I think your Salem is not the same. And what's Ill- Lil- Liver-money?" She managed, trying to twist her tongue around the new word. She had never heard of it before. Maybe it was another foreign school. American schools weren't so funnily named or hard to pronounce. Maybe it was from France? Did they even speak English at this place?

Once again, instead of an answer, she was handed several pages of a newspaper. Never one to read, Mimosa began flicking through the pages to find the pictures. It was rather annoying that they kept moving every time she tried to get a good look but soon she'd made a game out of them, ignoring the pictures and lulling them into a safe sense of security and then swinging her head sharply to look them directly in the frame. The game was entertaining for about five minutes before she got bored.

"Why do grown ups read the paper?" she asked curiously of the man still engrossed in his. "I like the pictures but they need to be in colour. Colors are better than this monochrome tone," she concluded, secretly proud of having used the word "monochrome" properly. She'd been trying to find an opportunity since she'd heard a really really old lady describe one of her grandpa's pictures as a "miasma of meticulously maintained monochromatic memoir". The next word on Mimosa's list would be "Miasma".

It took a bit of scanning, but he did find an add for school jobs. A pair of professor jobs were opened. He thought perhaps a club job, or even minor positions that could just get him by would be open. One was in the study of Ancient runes which he had no interest in, and the other........dueling.

"Well hot damn kid. I think you might not be half bad after all." He would say removing the excess sheets he would give them a toss over the table, and fold up the one with the add in it.

He would shackly stand to his feet. "Ilvermony, it's an American school. Only one worth going to kid, remember that when your folks try to hall you off to Salem. It'll be the best fight you give." He would rub his side, and lift his cane. Pressing it into the ground and giving it a lean, is eyes would scan for the nearest post office.

"You know where the post office is?" He would ask her still looking for some kind of signage or land mark. Looking back at the kid he would simply say "if you want them to not move so much buy a muggle book. It'll be in color and more cooperative. You find me the post office and maybe I'll send you one. That's a fair trade aye?"

The man was funny, Mimosa reflected as she took another spoonful of sundae into her mouth. He liked talking to himself more than others, she gauged noting his preference for muttering to himself and not answering questions very well. If he didn't think she was half bad, did he thinks she was full bad?

"But I don't want to fight Grandpa and Clara," she reasoned upon being told to resist the family's wishes of going to Salem. Granted Mimosa had never seen the school herself but she hadn't seen this other school either. And her folks wouldn't want something that was bad for her. The idea of school as a whole didn't excite Mimosa right now. School probably had a lot of books, and not the fun kind with epicures either.

"A post office?" Quinn really did confuse the child. Tossing away the rest of the newspaper, he folded one page and then got to his feet, looking for a place Mimosa was certain only existed in old movies. Incredulous blue eyes scanned the wizard's face before she reached into her bag, pulling out her top of the line slim smart phone embossed in glittery casings with her name spelled out in gold letters on the cover. A bit curiously, the witch extended the device towards him.

"You could send an email?" she suggested, trying to help. "I have a neutral owl app so you can just log in and send whatever you want." Should the man still wish to use an actual owl - and the child wasn't exactly sure those still existed - she would sigh and get to her feet, wincing slightly at the pain running up ehr arm from the fall.

"I saw an owl shop earlier, I can show you to there, I've been wanting to see it anyway. Grandpa and I have a bet that owls don't exist anymore."

"Why do you even have a phone?" He would ask looking at the slim device with incredulity. "I didn't have a phone until I was 16 and not one that could do all that until I was in my twenties." Though what really interested him was that he didn't think muggle instruments like that would work in diagon alley. Usually the magic in the air ran interference. Pulling his own out he noticed he had no signal whatsoever. So odd.

"And what do you mean owls don't exist, they fly all over the damn place." He would say wondering if the little girl was a little crazy and that's why whoever was her watcher had ran away. All the same, he didn't have a clue of where to go, so at the risk of getting on some kind of list he needed her help.

"Why don't you show me where the shop is, and if anyone asks your lost ok? You owe me for the double ice cream anyway." With that he would grab his cane and begin shuffling between the tables. Assuming the little girl followed him they would move and press, allowing her to lead the way.

The little girl simply stared up at him as he recounted the ages on which he had gotten a phone. There was no way this tiny man was sixteen years old. He was only just a little bit taller than her after all.  But as he continued, implying he was older than twenty, her blue eyes narrowed.

"Are you a shape shifter?" she asked suspiciously, reaching for the panic button app on her phone. It would make sense if he was. He talked funny, he looked funny, he couldn't remember her name and he claimed to be a lot older than he looked. Mimosa had only met one shape shifter in her young life and that lady had always looked pretty no matter what appearance she'd chosen.

No, if Quinn was a shape shifter, he wouldn't want to go about looking like this, she reasoned, removing her finger from the app.

"They don't fly all over where I'm from," she explained honestly, a little concern now that maybe he saw things other people didn't. Perhaps he was like Clara and saw the future but forgot to see the present sometimes?

"Okay," the girl rose neatly from her chair, agreeing to showing him the owl shop they'd passed by earlier. "But I'm not lost. And you shouldn't tell people lies either. if Camoens asks, we can just say you're a strange man who gave me ice cream and took me to the dark shop."  Yes, honesty was always the best policy, Grandpa said so and Grandpa wasn't wrong about these things.

Moving ahead, the girl walked a step or two in front of him, watching over her narrow shoulders to ensure hew as keeping up. Togather, the odd duo made their way across the cobblestone path and amid the crowds. "Do you want to hold my hand in case you get lost?" the young witch asked politely, extending a spindly arm his way. "Grandpa says to always hold hands when walking through a crowd."

Should he take her hand, she would guide him past the groups of people rushing around shopping for school supplies and towards the end of the street.Tuning the corner, she would gesture to the dark emporium located to the right.

"There, that's the big owl shop. Do you think they'll have actual owls there?" she questioned, taking in teh signs that advertised all the breed and owl keeping paraphernalia. There was also a less flashy poster advertising an on counter service where one could send letters without owning an owl.

Walking with the little girl he declined the option that included holding her hand. Firstly he wasn't one to hold hands, and secondly if she told anyone that story that had caused him to face palm he would need to apparate out quickly.

Moving through the throng of people they came upon the owl shop. "Looks good enough to me." He would say smiling. He would walk forward and press open the door. The shop was dark and instantly the smell of lots of birds in a small amount of space hit the nose. It was truly an.....interesting smell to say the least. Looking around he would look at all the different sizes and breeds. Though he had little to no interest to actually buy an owl but was more interested with the post service.

He'd glance back and see if the little girl had followed him. If she had he would simply shrug and move to the counter. There he would haggle the price, mostly because he was almost completely out of money. "That's a sin, but here...". He would say a little miffed to the old shop keeper.

Handing him the application that he had filled out with the wave of his wand he would watch as he moved back to shop and begin working on the owls. "Well, I guess you are pretty smart." He would say to little Mimo. He would ruffle her hair, which was wierd because she wasn't much shorter than himself, but he honestly didn't know what you were supposed to do when a child helped you out.

The first thing that assaulted the little girl's senses upon walking into the owl emporium was the smell. If there really were any of those old fashioned birds in here, they needed a shower with lots of soap, the young witch decided, wrinkling her nose in the dark. Maybe that's why most of the owls were gone, they had killed each other by not bathing and maintaining proper hygiene. Mimosa made up her mind to bathe as quickly as possible upon reaching her hotel. She didn't want to kill anyone, after all.

Holding her nose, she ventured in behind Quinn, watching him uninterestedly as he moved to the counter to argue with someone she couldn't see. Maybe he was just generally unpleasant? The thought comforted her somewhat. A least it wasn't just her he spoke strangely to.

Leaving him to his devices, the child moved to a corner of the shop where owl treats and accessories were kept, reaching for a small round thing that looked like an owl but was clearly not a real one. The toy snowy owl had big blue eyes that swiveled from side to side and the girl found that if she shook it, it emitted a high pitched screech that sounded remarkably like "You've got mail!" It was an odd contraption indeed.

Before she could investigate further however, Quinn was back and messing up her hair. Why did adults always do that? If he was an adult that is. "Of course I am," she replied, patting her hair down. "Grandpa always says so... Oh no, grandpa-" The child reached into her pocket, whipping her her phone. Quickly tapping her howler app, the child spoke into the device.

"Grandpa, I'm at the big owl shop with my friend, I already had ice cream, can you coem pick me up please?"

Once the message was sent, she tucked her phone back into her pocket. Looking up at the older wizard, the child stated "I just told my grandpa where I was. He says not to go of with strangers but if I know your name it's okay right?" It had to be. She had met Victoria the other day and Victoria was fine.

"Are you done? Did you actually send a letter with a real owl?" she asked curiously.

There are certain times in your life, when well you can fee that things aren't really how you want them to be. One example could be, standing in a dark room with a little girl that you don't know, while being an older man who bought her ice cream, and now her grandfather was on the way. It didn't take a hippogryph hematologist to know this situation could get hellacious.

"Indeed I did, indeed I did." He said contemplating his next move. The owl was sent, he had accomplished something for the day, so it was probably time to make his farewells to the little human. "Well Mimo, to been a pleasure." He would say with a bow. His face twinged at the motion feeling his injury, but still it felt appropriate.

Standing back up straight and leaning on his cane he would look around, and conveniently there was an owl sitting nearby. Underneath if, was the name tag Quinn. He wasn't sure how far that would go, it hell you never know till you tried. "Would you look at that......". He would say his voice full of mock surprise, pointing behind the girl with the tip of his cane. "An owl named Quinn."

Should she look even for the briefest of moments, a loud crack could be heard, much to the dismay of all avian persuasion creatures, and the chagrin of the shop keeper as it was sure to cause a stir. However for Quinn, he was long gone. Not wishing to even attempt to make any explanations. Would his little idea work, hard to say, but he wasn't really sure what 4 year olds could speak to anyway, so he was probably in the clear.

"Mim-oh-sah," the child corrected gently, patient because she knew some people had a harder time remembering than others. It was okay, she would just keep reminding him until his old person memory could finally understand and retain the information. The little witch had faith the little wizard would learn her name some day.

At the mention of an owl named Quinn, the girl turned promptly on queue, ready to see the owl, but no sooner had she turned than a loud bang reverberated through the shop, almost sending her to the floor in shock. Luckily the child managed to remain steady on her feet, a second fall in the span of the same hour would ensure a trip to the hospital and Mimosa was in no mood to explain to her grandfather how she'd gotten so hurt.

Sadly the hoers in the shop were not as easily taken care off. There was a scream, several windows shutting, a child smaller than her wailing and... the witch's eyes flew open when she saw wands drawn. Why would a bang send the shop into panic? A woman found her way to Mimosa and took a stance in front of the child, blocking the american witch's view.

'Stay behind me love, there could be bad people here," the middle aged witch warned, wand at the ready and confusing Mimosa even more. it was almost as if these people were expecting something bad.

And then she remembered her new friend Victoria saying soemthing... about not being alone in these times? What times did the lawyer mean? Was something bad happening here?

Suddenly the child was scared, no longer interested in the owls or the toys, blue eyes frantically searching for ehr new friend but he was nowhere to be found."

"Let me though," a familiar voice yelled and tears stung Mimosa's eyes as her grandfather's tall frame came into view. Shoving her way from behind the lady, she ran to him, hugging him around the knees. It took a few minutes for the place to settle down and to ensure that the only real injury was the shock the owls had suffered but Mimosa wasn't paying attention to that. All she knew was that Grandpa was here and she'd get to go home soon.

And she did, almost forgetting the strange little encounter she'd had that day.
