Likes:
  - Science; raised between the muggle and wizarding worlds, Emily took a fondness to things both magical and not. One of these in particular was muggle science; her father, a muggleborn wizard, attended Hogwarts but decided afterwards to pursue a career outside of magic. After many failed attempts, he landed himself an apprenticeship at a forensic science institute in his hometown. Naturally, Emily was fascinated, and became a whiz in her science classes at primary school with knowledge beyond what was expected. However, this hobby is slightly tainted, due to a difficult relationship with her father.
-Family; family is everything. Coming from a reasonably large family of three sisters and a brother, in a house too small to accommodate all of them, it was very much a case of 'like it or lump it', and Emily grew to love all her siblings. Aside from the natural rivalry and childish arguments, the five children grew up close and had to band together when their father left them.
-Anything that isn't 'her business'; at first, Emily would feel bad for hearing things she wasn't supposed to hear. It wasn't her place to know half of the things she would retain, and it definitely wasn't her place to relay that information, but... it became addictive all too quickly, leaving little notes where she knew they would be found, releasing her classmates and upperclassmen's 'secrets'. In her defence, maybe they ought to be more careful where they run their mouths...

Dislikes:
-Confrontation; Emily likes to keep her head down; a very skittish, bookworm type young lady with wide eyes and an innocent smile. All it takes is for someone to raise their voice and she is instantly uncomfortable. Fortunately, thanks to an uncanny ability to change her handwriting and her preference for muggle gel pens over quills, no-one can tell that the notes being left around are from her. If anyone ever found out and exposed the witch, she's sure she'd run into a full-blown panic.
-The rain, particularly thunderstorms; it's a long-term phobia that Emily realises is, for the most part, completely irrational. But a clap of thunder will have her hiding, and she doesn't care what she's in the middle of. Emily has gone to extreme measures to avoid going outside during a storm, and isn't adverse to pulling sick days in class to make sure she gets her own way.
-Snakes; Once again, irrational. Never in her life has Emily had any kind if altercation with a snake, neither does she know anyone who has - however, the sight of one makes her want to be physically sick.

Strengths:
-Attention to detail; Emily notices everything. Whether it's a change in someone's tone, in their demeanour, mood, or in the atmosphere, it's almost as if something ticks inside her. This is tremendously helpful when it comes to her friends and her siblings, especially knowing when they need something, but as well helps her to keep tabs on people.
-Classically intelligent; book smart. Emily has never been able to open a book without following it through to the very last footnote, even if it takes her a few weeks - though, usually it's a couple of days at worst. Her homework is always immaculately presented, her class notes neat and legible, and in the subjects she cares about, her grades are high and consistent.
-Physical fitness; while she may never have taken much of a fondness to magical sports, with a particular disdain for Quidditch thanks to a delightfully painful broken wrist in her first year, Emily is very physically fit. From a big family, never considered overly 'well-to-do', the witch took to swimming in the lake just a few minutes' walk from their house and running alongside her mother at a very young age.

Weaknesses:
-Impulsive liar; sometimes, Emily doesn't even have to think about it. Lies form on her tongue quicker than butter melts out in the sun; when she was younger, it was over the sillier things. 'No, ma - I promise, I didn't break the vase!', or 'Pa, I don't know where the sweets have gone!' But once she started Hogwarts, her lies started spilling and she became a master at convincing people she was telling nothing but the truth. With eyes like hers, how can anyone know not to trust her?
-Family; Emily will do anything for her family. There have never been any two ways about it; whether it's popping to the corner shop to get milk and medicine because her mother isn't well, or stepping in front of a curse to save the pain for one of her siblings, the witch would do it in a heartbeat. The quickest way to get inside her head is to target those who she loves. No-one even thinks about laying a finger on her family without Emily getting involved, no matter how small and weedy she may come across.
-Impatient; whether this is in regards to waiting to see what grades she has achieved on a test, or if it's hanging about waiting for a friend to show up so they can play together, Emily is an incredibly impatient young girl. Often, this leads to rash decisions and silly mistakes, which would otherwise have been so easily avoided if she'd just slow down.

Positive traits:
  - Energetic
  - Proud
  - Imaginative
 - Logical

Negative traits:
  - Clingy
  - Deceptive
  - Manipulative
 - Unforgiving

Quirks:
 - Makes up nicknames for everyone she meets; something that started as a child, Emily will usually make her mind up about someone within the first few minutes of meeting them. All of her siblings have nicknames, as do her close friends, but even people she barely speaks to have names that she uses in her own head. Of course, she usually remembers their real names, but the ones she gives them helps to remind her of their personalities, or they are often linked to their physical appearance. Some are, therefore, nicer than others.
 - Gestures a lot; actions speak louder than words. At least, that's what Emily tells herself when she goes off on a rant and finds her hands moving against each other, or pointing in different directions, before resting heavy on her hips as she concludes. Even with her head, if she is passionate about whatever she is taking about, she will gesture a lot - and often gets called out on it, resulting in the usual death of conversation when she realises.
 - Blinks excessively; it makes her look a hell of a lot more dense than she really is, but it's a noticeable little tick that the witch has that she has never been able to shake. Completely unrelated to her eyesight - which is slightly hindered, due to growing up with a condition known as Brown's Syndrome, by which she struggles to look upwards and inwards simultaneously with both eyes - it's just one of 'her things'.
 - Twiddles small objects; this is neither a nervous tick nor the result of having twitchy hands. Twirling pens like batons and rolling balls of paper between her fingers is a totally idle habit, but a quirk she has developed and is completely unable to let go of; similar to nail biting, or tapping, she supposes - it's just one of those things. Without anything in her hands, she is perfectly still - only with the presence of an object in her grasp it appears.

With an almost obnoxiously loud groan, Adie Knox bolted upright in her bed, one hand to her bulging stomach with the other shaking her boyfriend awake. Finlay MacDonald, from the other side of the mattress, groaned in protest before he came-to, the moonlight still filtering through the curtains of their room in the early hour, spirals of snow toppling down outside. On a cautious drive to the hospital - one full of threats to curse and emasculate and decapitate Finlay if he didn't 'get a move on and drive faster, bloody idiot!' - MacDonald toyed with a box in his pocket, a small smile on his face as he looked over at the woman in the passenger seat. The love of his life. The woman he was going to marry.

After nineteen gruelling hours of labour, Adie held her first born daughter in her arms. For months, her and Finlay had been discussing names for their baby girl, but the one that parted her lips when she saw her daughter for the first time wasn't even one they'd discussed before - rather, a name belonging to a recently deceased young lady that Adie had attended school with. "Emily," she breathed, pressing a kiss to her newborn's head, her baby's father repeating the name with a sound almost like he was choking, his hands releasing themselves from their previous stature of massaging his partner's neck to dropping to her bedside, one one to the ground, the other his only stability as he reached for the box.

"Adie Knox - you make me happier than I ever thought I could be," his voice carried, the blonde lying in the bed having to shift slightly to see him, her eyes blowing wide at the sight of the ring sparkling in its box. "You are, undoubtedly, the best thing that has ever happened to me; you are the love of my life, my best friend - my soulmate. In every life I ever have, Adie, I'll choose you. You bring colour to my sunsets, warmth to my nights. I love you - and I need you, forever, Adie. Will you -"

Adie was nodding before she even knew what to do with herself, both hands holding their baby against her chest as tears streamed down her face, hormones and emotions wreaking havoc through her body. A sob interrupted him as she moved again, a little closer to the edge of the bed, her hear up in her throat as she let Finlay continue, sure that she saw a single tear roll down his chiseled features.

"Will you marry me?"

The wedding took place three years later when Emily was able to walk, their daughter as the flower girl for the ceremony. By that time, they'd had another child, another girl, named Heather. By the time Emily was seven, she had two more sisters, Lorna and Bonnie - at which point Adie and Finlay decided that it was no longer practical for them to be living in their two bedroom flat, and found a quaint little cottage that was cheap enough to sustain thanks to its incredibly remote location.

As the eldest child, Emily was basically the babysitter for her siblings when they were acting up or when her parents physically didn't have enough hands to look after them all. The day of Emily's ninth birthday, she was given the news that she would soon have a baby brother - which, despite an already very cramped living situation, made the young witch swell with happiness, her magic not quite controlled yet to result in a broken vase in the living room at her squeak of happiness.

Little Calum was a troublemaker from the start. Clambering out of his cot as soon as he could remain upright, tugging and prodding at the cat, leaving a trail of destruction in his wake. But Emily adored him, and doted on him, and would always be the first to her brother's side when she heard him crying. In equal parts, she loved all of her siblings the same, but her bond with Calum was one she could never put into words.

A year to the day after Calum was born, Emily found herself unable to soothe him, no matter how much she bounced him and sang to him and stroked his head. He screamed every time he was touched, and no medicines her family could afford would help. Rushing him to the doctor, they were given the news; Calum had a quite advanced blood disease, meningococcal bacteria resulting in a septicaemia that could not be treated as much as it was needed to be. Barely even three weeks later, Calum passed away.

For the following six months, Adie was nearly unresponsive; she didn't sleep, barely ate, shook all the time. Finlay didn't handle it much better, but with work to distract him, he had a little bit of help. Through his work, he met a young woman by the name of Fiona, in whom Finlay found comfort over the loss of his son, and he left in the midst of the eighth month after Calum's death, leaving Emily almost solely responsible for looking after her whole family.

The witch would never forgive her father for what he did to them. Losing her husband broke Adie beyond repair, but with Emily off to school (despite the young witch protesting greatly, saying she didn't mind - that she could stay, and help, and work to help pay for their keep), Adie had no choice. Emily wrote to her mother every week, expecting updates on her sisters, on her mother's life. Adie healed, eventually - Calum's picture framed on the living room wall, now a happy memory of her loving, beautiful boy.

Adie Knox properly met Finlay MacDonald at the age of fifteen, where they immediately started a whirlwind romance. Adie was the typical good girl - sorted into Hufflepuff house at Hogwarts at the age of eleven, and Finlay could not have been more of the polar opposite. A boastful Gryffindor with a seeming inability to keep his mouth shut; he always had an opinion, and always had to voice it.

Before they had become properly acquainted, Adie had hated Finlay with a passion. She never thought she would find it within her to tolerate him, let alone care for the boy, until paired with him on an Astronomy assignment, and sitting on the tower in each other's company became more regular, even after they'd turned their findings in. They were good for each other; Finlay helped Adie to let her hair down, and Adie helped him through the loss of his parents. Polar opposites, attracted by the stars - but it was all too good to be true.
