The news flickering across the pages didn’t show the greatest global picture. Having just gotten back from the Italian tournament, Quinn was doing his best to catch up on what had happened over the last couple days. As per his own self creed during tournaments he shut out the world, and focused on only the task at hand, though afterwards it always seemed as though more things happened than possible.

Currently he stood out in the leaky cauldron. Wearing blue jeans and black boots, a flannel shirt with a light weight wind breaker, and a orange and black baseball hat, he looked distinctly muggle in a world of wizards. On the bar next to his half drank glass was a tackle box and leaning on the bar was a fishing pole. His plan was to go out for some stress relief, given the global disappear was nothing to his personal one.

Shortly after returning from Italy, very shortly given he attempted to go to wear he thought he lived, it had come to his attention his position had been eliminated. “Improper results” was the official reason, despite his absence not even being a noticeable one. He had taught classes, perhaps he could have been more involved, but straight to the boot had kicked him right in the teeth.

Taking the glass he took another sip of the dark amber liquid. Exhaling again, he started to talk to the bartender about it. Explaining the story in details that mostly spun his view in a positive light. Their conversation was one where party A was looking for validation, and party B wanted to sell more alcohol. This of course led to Party A Ie Quinn, feeing pretty good that he had been unfairly persecuted. That headmistress.....what a bitch.

May had come in to being in a fashion Victoria had not been ready for. The Darby International office in London was on tender hooks. The world was in so much uncertainty, it was leaking in to the Muggle world without anyone really knowing. Mergers were happening, stocks were moving, people were looking to save their assets or else move them somewhere safe.

The industry was thriving, but Victoria knew that by the end of the month, hell was going to break loose.

Keeping your head above water at this time was not an easy feat, especially when your boss relied quite heavily on you. When your boss pushed more and more work on to your desk because you didn't tell him that you were overloaded. Victoria had never been good at turning work away, and for the last two months, Victoria could count the amount of full days off she'd had on one hand.

That morning, Victoria was meeting one of her many clients for a meeting to discuss the woman's impending suit against a large multinational company. They were due to meet at half past eleven at The Leaky Cauldron, but Victoria was, as always, early to the meeting.

Moving across the bar, Victoria tucked her hair back behind her ear once more before carefully taking a seat at the bar. Taking a moment to make sure her dress sat suitably, the young witch turned her attention to the barman as he came over. "Just an orange juice, please." Victoria ordered with a warm smile. Placing her folder on the bar, Victoria pulled out her cell phone and checked through her work emails, replying to her boss' numerous emails from that morning, before checking her agenda to schedule meetings with other clients.

The job at Darby International had been an eye opener, truly. But Victoria was no where near ready to back down from the challenge. After all, just one more case, and then she was allowed to do a pro-bono case. The cases that she longed for more than her corporate, high billable clients. Because the pro-bono work actually felt like she was doing good.

It wasn’t her arrival that had brought attention, no instead it was her order. Sitting at a bar and ordering just an orange juice, what a peculiar way to start the day. At least for him it would have been, orange juice was merely a vessel for Champaign after all, specifically at this time of day.

Finishing his glass of amber liquor he would look over at the woman. She seemed to be engrossed in her work, flipping through a muggle phone. A folder ever present on the desk, undoubtedly containing a variety of “important” documents. “A mimosa..”. He would say waving down the bartender. Standing he would shimmy down several barstools to sit next to the newcomer.

“You forgot one of the ingredients to your drink.” He would say with a smile clinking his to hers as it sat on the bar. He would proceed to take a sip after his own toast. He wasn’t normally one to just approach someone at the bar, but he was deep into the glass, and his fishing trip was looking like it was going to be on hold, so might as well find something else to do.

“Quinn, nice to meet you.” He would say, trying to hide how much he had had. It wasn’t to bad, but the path ahead was beginning to be clear. “Working in something important?”

Victoria could feel eyes on her, it was a feeling that she wasn't overly used to, in truth, but one that she understood enough. The young witch looked up, her cheeks a little reddened by the feeling of being watched, to find a young man looking over at her. The witch flashed him a small smile, before turning back to her work. She didn't wish to encourage the young man, but there was no need to be rude about it.

Elenore had just replied to the meeting with her colleagues later that week, and then the social on Friday evening, when she noticed movement near her. Whilst she didn't look up again, the witch was very aware of her surroundings, as one always had to be in the modern climate which still did not, completely, accept women had rights to their own bodies.

Not that anyone would particularly stand much chance against the youngest Newbury, the young witch was quite good with spells -- though, only the ones that couldn't damage, damaging spells had always been the ones she'd struggled with.

“You forgot one of the ingredients to your drink.”

Victoria's eyes lifted to the young male whom she'd smiled at earlier. It seemed, perhaps, she had encouraged him a little, but Victoria wouldn't judge him until she'd given him a fair chance. "Oh?" Victoria asked with a small smile. "It's... much too early for me to partake, not to mention I'm here on business." The brunette explained with a warm smile in that moment. It would completely betray the 'boring' comment of working, Victoria's smile, showing that unlike many she was not all work orientated.

"Would that be Vodka, or Champagne?" The witch asked in reference to his comment a few moments later, her perfectly sculpted eyebrow raised in question as she contemplated the man before her. He was a small man -- not that Victoria could talk when she was only five foot tall herself -- and had the... 'oddly' attractive look to him. Not conventional, that much was for sure, but Victoria had never been with anyone on looks. Her pull was more for the personality and ambition of the other person.

"Victoria," The witch would reply, picking up her glass of orange juice and taking a sip of the refreshingly cold beverage. "I'm waiting for a client, actually, we're meeting her to finalise my current client's case." Victoria explained, leaving enough of that open to question if Quinn so wished to ask, without pushing her 'heavy' job on another. "And you, what brings you to the Cauldron at this hour?" Victoria asked in return, not jumping to any conclusion about the other boy.

He considered her quandary with true attention. Vodka or Champaign, well that wasn’t a hard decision at all. “I’d say it depends on how the morning is going.” He would say taking a drink. “And of course how fancy you are feeling.” He would give another smile and continue to listen to her as she spoke.

He felt as though she was appraising him, which in his current state was just fine and dandy thank you very much. She had given her name, and then mentioned something about a client and a case. Which seemed terribly official and important. However before he had to much time to consider this she asked him a second question.

“Me, well enjoying the refreshments before I go fishing........though I may end up spending the day here and seeing what I can catch. Wrongfully terminated aye.” He would say raising his glass and gaining not only a meaningful if not exaggerated nod of agreement from the bartender but a free second glass. Though this was likely an investment for more glasses that certainly would not be free. “Don’t have much to do until I find something else after that.” He has had several to drink, so explaining all the details didn’t occur to him. After all, the barkeep knew the story so shouldn’t everyone?

“Cases and clients.....are you some kind of lawyer? Or maybe a detective, though not a very good one if you easily mention what your doing, unless your being so overt as to be covert.......very smart.” He would add considering it.

Victoria let out a soft laugh at Quinn's answer to her question on which beverage one should mix with orange juice. "Well, not to sound prudish, but I don't drink at this time in the morning. I do drink, but," She glanced at the clock behind the bar. "It's definitely too early for me to partake." And, contrary to popular belief, Victoria was not judging the man before her with his own drinking habits, everyone had different body clocks, and therefore, it might be completely acceptable for the man before her to be drinking now.

Victoria might have asked more on the fishing point -- or suggested he do go shopping and not spend his day in this establishment -- had Quinn not said what he did next. "Wrongfully terminated?" Victoria asked, not being able to help herself in that moment. Wrongful terminations were something Victoria could get behind, something she had no issue with getting passionate about when the need arose, and if Quinn was serious in that moment about being wrongfully terminated, then Victoria would definitely extend him her help on getting that sorted.

Victoria let out a soft laugh at Quinn's question of being a detective. "I wish I was a detective, just so I could play with that idea of tricking you back and forth in to guessing if I really was! But, no, I am a lawyer, I work with Darby International, actually. You might have heard of it, but, if you haven't don't worry. And, what is it that you do, Quinn?" Victoria asked, raising her glass to her lips and taking a small drink. She liked the man before her, he was... different, but nice. Very nice.

Laughing He would push his glass towards her as a second was placed in front of him back to the darkened whiskey. “Lawyer......I think you need this more than me.” He would say making a joke at her profession, compared to him that was much more of a grown up living. “To bad, detective wild make a much cooler business card.” He’d day giving a wink.

What do I do, he mulled over the question. He did several things at the moment, and probably needed to do a bit more. “Right now......waiting for the next gig.” He would say. That much was true. “I’m a duelist.....proffesionaly.” His hand moved the new glass stirring the liquid around to the brims, though his hand was sill steady enough that nothing was wasted. “Apart from that, I gave lessons for a bit, worked for Hogwarts until unfortunately that came to a close, and between tournaments I find odd jobs to keep me busy. Got something coming up soon actually, in Sweden.” He would finish moving on to the whiskey, the mimosa he had pushed near her seemingly forgotten.

“You in any specific part of law?” He would ask. “Favorite kind of client sort of thing?” He would say interested in what she might do. The prospect of working a “real job” had no appeal to him. His finances were constantly varied and changing but he had grown accustomed to it. Even when he had worked on the muggle fishing boat hauls determined pay and seasons were different.

He hadn’t missed that she had seemed interested in his wrongful termination comment, though the drink had caused it to lapse in his mind.

Victoria smiled softly at the young man when he said she would need his drink, shaking her head at his obvious dislike for her job. Or, perhaps, and more likely, the fact he likely believed that she was one of those people who didn't enjoy her job, and found it a chore getting through it. But, Victoria didn't acknowledge the drink further, as she said, she was working, and she would not harm the Darby International name by practicing whilst not one hundred percent sober.

"A duellist?" Victoria echoed, raising an eyebrow at that much. The man before her was quite small, and not particularly... Victoria wouldn't have put him in that job, if you were to put the man before her against her brother... Victoria wasn't sure it would be a nice outcome. Though, of course, her opinion was biased, and not completely aware of what kind of a duellist Quinn was, she couldn't really judge. "Oh, Sweden? That sounds lovely! I've heard great things about that country, but I haven't yet travelled to see it for myself."

"I haven't picked a certain field yet, truthfully, but at the moment I'm working in the corporate cases. Not my strongest field, but one that I'm working very hard in to show my boss that even if I'm better suited elsewhere, he can count on me." Victoria explained, because she was nothing short of tenacious, even if you gave her something that she wouldn't have picked. "My favourite clients are the pro bono cases, actually, because then I know I'm working for those who truly need me."

"You... mentioned you'd been wrongfully terminated, Quinn." Victoria prompted, trying to get more information on that point before her meeting came around. "If that's truly the case, I would be able to help you." The witch continued, clearly concerned with the man's well being. He was, after all, in a pub, before midday, somewhat... drunk, and claiming to have been wrongfully terminated from his job. If that didn't scream for help, Victoria wasn't sure what would.

Laughing at her shock of his profession he merely took a drink. It wasn’t the first time people were surprised, however in the professional circuit such talk had ceased. It didn’t matter much to him if people believed it or not, in the end only result mattered.

“Going with the Runes Professor, he’s apparently got a job there, so hired me to make sure nothing happens to him I reckon.” He would continue, “first time in Sweden myself should be fun......at least I hope so, and profitable.”

Victoria began to explain her current situation. Mentioning law had been bad enough, but corporate law seemed even worse. It idea of understanding all that made his head swam more than the whiskey. He thought he had heard the worst of it, yet he girl continued to surprise him with her acknowledgment of her love for pro bono work, working for free.......now that made no sense.

“I’m not sure what there is to do chicka.” He would respond to her offer. In his mind things like this were closed deals. It was over so why look back into it, or that’s at least how he felt about it. “I mean it is what it is. You think you have the time and leave to go, travel to Italy, win a tournament and come back. Not my fault I got a little delayed with injury, but aperantly they think it is. Hogwarts must not be the high holy they make it out to be.” He’d say drinking again. His comments came because of the drink it was done off handed kind of manner.

As they spoke several customers came in, and the lunch rush must have been picking up. The chatter picked up as they say and talked.

PostSubject: Re: A brandy, a fish, and some validation (invite Victoria)   A brandy, a fish, and some validation (invite Victoria) EmptySun Jan 14, 2018 9:14 pm

The comment of going as protection made Victoria smile fondly at the man before her. He seemed to be... so fully of himself, so sure of himself, and it was refreshing in one way, but amusing in another. "Perhaps he is." Victoria commented softly, not wanting to deter Quinn's enthusiasm for his project with the Runes professor -- whomever that was.

Victoria listened to the case that Quinn was putting forward. If his words were to be believed, Victoria could see a very winnable case developing. Of course, to make sure that he was telling the truth, Victoria would have to give him a line of questioning when he hadn't been drinking. Whilst drunk people were more honest, the testimony would not stand well if she put it before her boss as her choice for her next pro bono.

So, instead, Victoria dug in to her handbag, and after a few moments, she pulled out her card, which had her name and contact details on it and held it out to Quinn. "I know you don't think this is of any importance, and I know you think there isn't anything you can do. But, Quinn, I believe you have a case against Hogwarts School, and I would like you to consider this option. If you... if you think you truly were wrongly terminated from your contract, I would like to represent you, as your lawyer.

"Darby International have a very good reputation, too, if you look us up." Victoria added as an after thought, spotting her client coming through the door, she stood from the bar stool. "Once you've had time to think about it," And, by this, Victoria meant time to sober up. "Give me a call, and I'll arrange a meeting for the two of us to discuss this properly."

With what Victoria hoped was a look that insisted Quinn think about it, Victoria added. "It was lovely to meet you, Quinn, I hope I hear from you soon." The witch finalised, before heading off to greet her client.
