DADA: Lesson One -- Years 5 - 7 Empty

The older years. Jake preferred this class today, getting to work with more experienced kids meant he could work on the harder things on offer, and so, he had devised something... challenging for the class to try out. Not, of course, that he allowed for any slacking when it came to his classes.

Getting hold of the creatures had been... vastly difficult. Usually this lesson was taught in theory, but with a few contacts within the Ministry... well, Jake had managed it. It was not going to be a fun lesson, Jake was sure he might terrify a couple of the students, but these things were real, and the students needed to know about them. After all, who knew what would happen in the future?

Jake had lost his sense of reality recently, and he didn't wish for his students to find themselves exposed to things they didn't know how to deal with. No, that luxury could not be extended, not anymore.

So, unlike normal, there was nothing upon the board to hint to today's lesson. No, Jake was keeping his students in the dark.

Sasha was still not in the best of the moods but she still needed to attend to her lessons. There was no escape from them now when she had become even Head Girl. The girl couldn't just go and skip the lessons there. So this was the reason why Sasha had today walked towards DADA lesson too.

She didn't really mind that class but at times it can be a hard one. She hoped it wouldn't be very difficult class today. Soon the girl walked into the classroom. "Hello," she said with small forced smile basically. She tried to be excited that she is here. Even if it wasn't a super easy task.

She looked at the board but it didn't really tell anything what they might learn here today. So the girl had no idea what to expect from this lesson really now. All she had to do was wait until other was here.

The new year at Hogwarts had officially begun, and Nerisei had promised herself that she would, once again, try her absolute best to achieve her dreams. Of course, Potions was her priority, when it came down to lessons, but that didn't mean that the witch was giving up on the rest of the subjects. Transfiguration had not been fun, and sadly, she hadn't been able to attend the Care of Magical Creatures class, though she had made a note to attend the next one, because that new professor seemed to be quite special. At least for the girls!

Her schedule wrote DADA today, and the Ravenclaw Prefect felt slightly better. She wasn't enjoying much of her lessons this year, but that was probably because she hadn't seen Dimitri in them. Was the young man avoiding her? Nerisei had sensed that he was slightly on edge, since after he had found out she had made Prefect, but the Ravenclaw witch had believed he would have been happy for her, not angry!
Pushing those thoughts aside, Nerisei made her way to the Third Floor, where the DADA classroom was.

Entering, she noted that she had, once again, arrived second to Sasha, their Head Girl. Nerisei hadn't really talked with the Hufflepuff witch, besides the meetings that were held in order to assign projects, but from what she could make out, she didn't seem all that bad. Maybe, she would have the chance to get to know her, before she graduated.

"Hello, Jake!" Nerisei greeted, making a slight face at his name. Nerisei was still not used to calling the Professor by his first name, and even after six years, it still made her feel weird. Jake Newbury was not her friend, he was her Professor.
Neri's eyes scanned the board, as usual, for any hint about what today's lesson would be, but this time, Jake hadn't given them anything to work with. On the contrary, the board was empty, leaving the witch with no idea. All she had to do was wait and see.

As the class slowly filled up, Jake took in those coming in to the class and smiled warmly at the students who greeted him, before returning the gesture in kind. He was, in truth, vastly glad of the distraction from his thoughts, and focused instead on the class before him.

A couple of minutes early, Jake started the lesson, just to get away from having to wait any longer. Though, as anyone who knew him would know, so long as they were apologetic for their absence, he wouldn't mind.

"Okay, lets crack on, shall we?" Jake prompted the class as a whole when he stood from his desk. "Welcome back for another year at Hogwarts, I am quite sure this one will not be an easy one, for anyone, what with the prep for big exams, but I'm positive you will all do well, should you put your mind to it." Jake told them, smiling to show he meant well by this statement.

"Today's lesson will be looking at one of the darkest creatures known in the wizarding world. A creature that can only be created via the use of Dark Magic. I refer, of course, to the creatures known as Inferi. Does anyone know anything about this creature?" Jake posed the question, leaving it open to the students to infer whatever they chose from it.

Sasha waited for the lesson to begin there and when it did she was quite glad since she was getting slowly bored there already. The girl was just looking at ahead of her and was in her own thoughts, what has happened lately much.

The head girl had heard what today's lesson was about and she tried to remember anything she knows about Inferi. She didn't know much for sure but she decided to tell so much as she knows. She could try to be useful in the lesson.

"Their basically zombie-like creatures. They can seem similar to them, even if they are intrinsically distinct from zombies. It's basically dead body, what is created by dark arts branch called Necromancy, which in other names is the art of raising the dead," the girl tried to make sense there now. At least for her, the senses seemed logical.

Also, she hoped that she gave the right answer there now. She really didn't know anything else about these creatures. Maybe some other student in the class could answer better than her.
