PostSubject: Care of Magical Creatures - Lesson Two (All Years)   Tue Jun 12, 2018 5:31 am

Time seemed to fly quite fast around this place, and the Greek wizard had found himself wondering how had three months passed so quickly. The Christmas Holidays were just around the corner, and all of the students were ecstatic at the idea of going home, to their families, in order to celebrate and open gifts. Which... equaled with them not truly caring for most of the subjects, during this time of the year. Odysseas knew that he was one of those students too, once, and understood how hard it was for them to stay focused for a little while longer, before they went on their break. Therefore, the Care of Magical Creatures Professor had decided on having a fun lesson today, hoping that his students would appreciate it.

Last time, a fair amount of students had attended his class, and the man had to admit that the feedback was quite positive. Whether it was because of him, or because of the little Crups he had brought along, Odysseas wasn't sure, but he still hoped that this lesson would be no different. Scanning the Grounds that were covered with heavy snow, Odysseas waited for the arrival of his students. The little Bowtruckle that was sitting on his shoulder was playing with his hair, whispering of how unkept it looked. "You know it's the snow, Noah. Stop whining." Odysseas whispered back, earning a small poke from the Bowtruckle.

Chuckling softly, the man looked away from the little creature and back towards the Grounds. Someone should be arriving any second now...

With the anticipation of the holidays growing around the castle, Elenore found herself growing more and more apprehensive about the holidays. The young witch did not wish to head home this year, fearing the worst with her eighteenth name day only days away.

How much longer did she have before her parents threw her aside to another family? How much longer did she have before the Palace would no longer be home and Grandmere would be left behind alone in her withdrawing room?

The thought had plagued the witch of late, the only respite she had now was the time she spent with the moon calf Professor Venizelos and herself had been hand rearing for the last couple of months.

Today was another one of such lessons, though, Care of Magical Creatures. The Hufflepuff drew her custom made cloak around her, glad of the heating charm it had been made with was keeping away the cold bite of the weather, as she moved through the snow to the meeting point for the lesson.

By the time Elenore had reached the class her cheeks were a soft pink, stung by the cold, but not deterring her wish to be in this class. "Morning, professor," Elenore greeted the man as she arrived, looking only for a moment for the creature before finding it upon the professors shoulder. A small, knowing smile touched Elenore's lips but she offered no comment in that moment, knowing that today was going to be enjoyable if they were going to be working with Bowtruckles.

Dominique was excited about that break was almost here, as she was going home. But she would have to focus on her classes. She really loved Care of Magical Creatures but she hated that she had to go outside in the cold. So she made sure that she all nice and warm. But as soon as she stepped outside, she could feel the cold on her cheeks. But it was something that she was going to have to live with. Dominique was hoping that Elena would be there. Maybe she would get to see Sasha. Which she didn’t get to spend a lot of time with her since she was busy with her duties being head girl. As she was thinking about the class, she realized that she was already there.

And it would seem that she was a little early. It didn’t bother her that she wasn’t the first one to the class. As long as she got there on time, then everything was fine. “ Good morning professor.” Dominique smiled as she was waiting for everyone else to start showing up.

She was glad to be back at school, not being able to go home was killing her but she would get used to it when time goes by, but right now it's still too fresh for her and painful. Elena wasn't exactly rushing to class to be honest, she loved school but she knew she still had a little bit of time to get there before class starts. She hoped Dia was there, the only person that understood she didn't want to be bothered by the death of her parents was Dia.

When she got there she saw the young girl who was getting too big then she was willing to admit. Dia was turning into a young woman and she was so happy and proud of Dia. When she got to where the other two students were she gave a small nod to the professor and waited for class to begin.

This year Sasha wasn't sure what to expect from her Christmas, to be honest. Things were more complicated for the girl now. She still wasn't best terms with her parents. They seemed to be even more distance now. She hasn't really yet discussed things with Sierra but she needs probably.

Anyways right now the girl didn't wanna worry about her Christmas. In the last months, a lot has happened for Sasha. Some things are happy memories and others are not. Anyways she didn't wanna worry about her past anymore, it was time to think about the future.

The girl walked were the class was held with a small smile on her face. Over so many months of being sad, the girl finally was happy. She had slowly begun to be who she used to be. "Hello, Professor and everyone else," she said with a small smile on her face, what was really real this time of the day.

Most Slytherins had written off the new CoMC class, though Mimosa couldn't imagine why. All she knew was that they had dropped the class for the most part in favor of Potions or Divination and expected Mimosa to do the same. With Potions, the little witch had a legitimate excuse - she didn't want to and books were boring. The child had a harder time explaining away Care of Magical Creatures though because no one else seems to care that her Elenore was in the class.

A year ago, the idea that someone didn't care about Elenore Clement would have been utterly inconceivable to the child but now... after seeing for over a year the older witch's lackluster representation in school, Mimosa was starting to see that some people just didn't get it.

And because she herself did, she had to get creative. Mimosa knew that no matter who else in the serpent house dropped the class, Elena would not. The older Slytherin was very enthusiastic about classes and she was good friends with Dia which made her quite okay in Mimosa's books. So when she had seen Elena go off to class, she had followed loosely behind, claiming not to leave a fellow Slytherin on her own.

As a result, Mimosa arrived a little after the other Slytheirn but was quick to wave to her and Dia who were already standing together. Barely sparing a glance at the professor (he wasn't teaching yet so he probably didn't need looking at), Mimosa moved to join the other two, taking her place in the small huddle. The cold didn't bother her at all, her warm cloak with Grandmere's signature embroidery ensuring she stayed warm and insulated even in the snowiest of conditions.

Even though the snow was falling heavily around them, to Odysseas' surprise, students began to arrive one right after the other. First, it was Miss Clement, with whom the older wizard had been spending quite some time, in order to attend to the little Mooncalf he had found. He had, of course, allowed the young witch to name the little one, in a way of appreciation for the help she was offering. After all, who wanted to spend their evenings attending to the needs of a small creature? It was quite rare to find someone who shared the same passion Miss Clement was showing.

Odysseas nodded politely at her, giving her a smile, before turning his attention back to the little Bowtruckle, who was poking him and smiling at the brunette. The man raised an eyebrow at the small creature, finding it quite amusing that yet another creature was showing such interest towards Miss Clement. Perhaps they were seeing something he didn't, but this was certainly not the time to think about it.

More students arrived, and Odysseas greeted each and everyone of them with a small smile. Familiar faces were now surrounding him, and after making sure no one else was coming down, Odysseas cleared his throat and started speaking. "Welcome back to Care of Magical Creatures! I am sure most of you would prefer to be somewhere else, believe me, I'd love to be somewhere warm right now as well, but unfortunately, some things need to be done." The man said with a small chuckle.

"Today, I have yet another friend with me." Odysseas said and extended his arm, palm facing up, to allow the little Bowtruckle to walk down his arm and stand in the middle of his hand. "This is Noah. Does anyone have an idea what he is?"

Elena thought the creature on the shoulder of the Professor was pretty neat. It was something her father used to own but it got stolen and her father had been pretty upset since it was something that was precious to him. The class began to pile in and she was glad for the lesson to start. For her mind to be focused on class was a good thing. When the Professor asked what was on his shoulder, Elena raised her hand.

"It's a Bowtruckle, they have very sharp hands which a lot of people consider dangerous since they could stab them" Elena lowered her hand. Her brother had always been afraid of them since one poked his finger. Sometimes Elena thought they were harmless but everyone had their own experiences with Bowtruckles so it was definitely understandable if someone told her that they were harmful and all that stuff.

"They're tree huggers," Mimosa added after Elena was done. Elena was super smart and attended every class, she also always got points for Slytherin. But Elena shouldn't have to do things alone, so Mimosa wanted to help.

"They like living in trees, especially the kind of trees you can make into wands." Ha, take that Squid Boy, and you thought I never listened to you. Mimosa wasn't entirely sure why you would want to make a tree into a wand but she was an American and Americans didn't judge people who lived alternatively, at least that's what Clara said.

"I'm also not sure if you're allowed to have one as a pet, unless you're a tree?" The eleven year old looked up at the Professor curiously. Was he a tree in disguise? Was that why the little creature was so comfortable in his shoulder?

Elenore had listened quietly as the professor had started the lesson that day. She knew what a Bowtruckle was, of course, you only needed to have opened the book to know what one looked like, but she'd never seen one before. Elenore's eyes remained upon the small Bowtruckle -- Noah, as the professor had called him -- whilst the class went on around her. If only her Maman would be more accepting of animals in and around the Palace that weren't seen as 'proper', she might have had more experience with the small creature.

Such thoughts, though, were for another time, and Elenore's mind tuned back in at the question of what it was. The Slytherins were quickest off the mark, one of the older witch's denoting it was a Bowtruckle and that it was dangerous. Elenore simply gave a small shake of the head at that. No animal was dangerous unless it was provoked, or felt threatened. The creature before them, stood upon the professor's shoulder was testament to that much. Elenore decided not to speak up to correct the witch, though, that would likely be deemed rude, even if the witch was wrong.

And then it was Mimosa.

Had Elenore Clement not have been a lady of controlled emotions, she might have groaned at the statement Mimosa made. But the child didn't stop and as she continued, the smile on Elenore's features left, instead standing with an emotionless facial expression, clearly not amused with the statements being made. The witch, though, didn't look to Mimosa disapprovingly, she simply looked to the professor, waiting to see what they would be doing that day...

And then it hit her.

Elenore Clement might not mind caring for magical creatures, in fact the Clement heiress postively enjoyed the process, but in that moment, Elenore realised something she'd read, and apprehension touched her features. "Bowtruckles feast on wood lice," Elenore added, not quite keeping the minor amount of discomfort from her tones. "And fairy eggs, too." It was short, simple, and the witch's eyes moved around for a sign that it would be the latter they would be feeding Bowtruckles, because wood lice were not nice... they were crawly little insects that made the witch want to hurry back off to the castle away from this class.
