Jake hadn't been one hundred percent sure with this lesson, based on the mixture of spells needed to teach the class. But, he had faith in his younger students, and for those who couldn't adequately cast all the spells being used, Jake was on hand to help. That was how a twenty foot square tank stood in his classroom today, the water inside a little murky, but the shapes of the creatures of today's lesson easily able to be picked out in and around the tank. Weeds floated in the bottom of the tank, though, masking their movement to anyone who wasn't keeping a keen eye upon the tank and any movement.

A message had been sent to all those who had signed up for the class to wear swimming clothes under their uniform to the class. In the back corners of the room, Jake had put up makeshift changing areas -- one for the boys, one for the girls -- so that they could get changed in private when they were done with today's lesson.

All that Jake needed now was for his students to arrive in their usual hordes.

Behind him, on the board denoted today's lesson.

Grindylows.

(OOC: Ten OOC housepoints (joke) for those who read the last word in Fleur's accent).

"Mercy, we're going to be late!!! Come on, come one, come one!!!" Mimosa bounced as she waited for the Gryffindor walking to class with her. When word had gotten around that they would have to be in swimsuits for this class, Mimosa had began the bouncing, and the little witch hadn't stopped since. Was Jake taking them to the sea? Was there even sea in England, she had yet to see one?

Of course, the requirement had brought about all kinds of questions in other students. Mimosa had seen Catherine holding up various swimsuits in front of her facing he mirror, contemplating which one would work. When Mimosa had asked her why it was so difficult to decide, the girl had simply looked at her incredulously, as if she was missing some grave point.

Over in Gryffindor tower, Bushrah was all in a panic too, for once not bothering to come sit with Mimosa and Mercy who tended to squeeze together on one large comfy armchair these days. According to one o he triplets, the Arabic English girl was having a panic attack over how much of ehr body to reveal and if swimsuits could be worn with hijabs.

It was an alien feeling to Mimosa... Some girls didn't like how they looked? Or actively tried to hide things about their body? Despite being a model, Mimosa had never ever been lead to believe there was anything wrong with her. Quite the opposite, she was always told over and over by everyone how beautiful she was. It was odd learning not everyone was told that.

The two girls tripped into class with Mimosa dragging Mercy (gently) by the hand, and once they had entered, she pulled Mercy closer, wrapping an arm around the older witch more securely. "Jake, we're here! I want to swim!" The child squealed in way of greeting before her eyes took in the room.

"Whoa," the second year breathed out, taking in the murky tank with what looked like tiny shadows at the bottom. Where was Squid Boy when they were looking at baby giant squids in class?

Swiveling towards the blackbird, the witch took in the letters, focusing on the word written in clear, bold chalk, making it easier to read. She had been doing the practices her doctors were recommending, but she was doing them more for her Jacques than the doctors. It always made him happy when she wrote him in her actual hand and.. reading was getting marginally better. At least it didn't hurt her head like it used to.

"G-rin-dee-low-s," the child put the word together carefully, pronouncing each syllable as she understood it before a big grin blssomed on her features. "Grindylows."

Elena was glad that the last Defense Against the Dark Arts class went great. She teamed up with Mimosa and they did amazing and she knew that they still had a training lesson as Elena was going to show Mimosa what she knew and what not that way when she got older and continued on with the classes she could have some tricks up her sleeve which was going to be fun story for Elena to hear because she can guarantee that Mimosa would tell her all about it.

The blonde entered the class and saw Jake along with her Slytherin Buddy. Elena smiled and waved at her and started twiddling her wand around in her hand. It was better then the thumbs she twiddle around. It was a habit she was trying to break but right now she was still going with it. Elena waited for the class to begin.

Mercy gladly followed Mimosa's lead as they rushed down the hall. She didn't think they were anywhere close to being late, but who was she to argue? She was just as excited to get to class and see what all the hubbub was about. Besides, Mimosa's hand in hers made her feel positively giddy as they ran.

She had taken a bit of time getting ready, but not for the same reason as most of the girls in her dorm. She really didn't understand how other girls could find it so difficult to pick out a swimsuit. She herself only had two to choose from, and they were both the same style. Most swimwear wouldn't cover the scar on her right shoulder, so all she had were swim shirts, which had sleeves that ended halfway down her biceps. The only reason she had taken so long to get ready was because everyone else in the dorm was taking a long time too, and she couldn't find a private place to change.

Finally, she had simply closed the drapes on her four poster bed, quickly changed clothes, and pounded down the stairs to meet Mimosa. Mimosa's presence in the Gryffindor common room had become a normal occurrence over the past year, and though some of the older years still shot them strange looks every once and a while - apparently they weren't too happy about having a snake in their den - they were decreasing in frequency as they began to realize it was just something they would have to accept. Mercy wasn't going to let anyone kick Mimosa out.

The two girls skidded to a halt as they barrelled into the classroom, and Mercy took in the large tank taking up a good portion of the room. Ominous shadows lurked near the bottom, and Mercy's heart pounded in anticipation...and also because Mimosa had shifted her arm to wrap around her waist. She grinned along with her friend as the Slytherin sounded out the word on the board. Awesome.

"Jake, we're here! I want to swim!"

As his daughter entered the room, full of life as always, tugging along Mercy in her wake, Jake couldn't help but smile warmly back at the two of them. The two young witches were inseparable it seemed, and Jake had heard that the usual Slytherin/Gryffindor dislike was being dissipated by the fierce friendship between the two of them. "Good morning, Mimosa, Mercy!" Jake greeted the two of them, letting out a soft laugh at Mimosa's insistence that she wanted to swim. "All in good time, Mimosa, all in good time!"

"Morning, Elena," Jake added as yet another Slytherin entered the fray.

The class slowly filled up, much as it always did, and Jake greeted his students as warmly as he always did. Those who seemed to eye the tank nervously made Jake smile knowingly, and those who's eyes befell the board knew what they would be looking at today. So, without further ado, just before the hour struck, Jake spoke up to the class as a whole.

"Good morning everyone. I hope you all got my message about today's lesson, or else know a good drying charm or spell for later in the lesson." Jake explained, letting the small joke fall across the class before he continued on once more. "Today's lesson, as some of you may have seen, revolves around Grindylows." Jake explained, motioning to the word on the board that depicted such things for all those in the room to take note of. "So, who can tell me what these are? Where might we find them -- apart from the tank in this room?" Jake prompted, looking around his students with a hopeful expression.

Elena was happy to get a chance to work with Grindylows. They were very fasinating from afar. She had never been close to one but she has read about them in her books. The blonde raised her hand when Jake asked where you could find Grindylows. She lowered her hand. "You can find these fasinating green creatures in the weeds at the bottom of the lakes" she answered. She was going to add that they looked terrible but best to not provoke them.

Elena heard that they could be quite vicious and she planned on not wanting to be distasteful towards it. Elena was dying to know what was going to happen next. It excited her So much and she loved this class. The blonde was kind of surprised no one else but the students were here but she thought it would be better in all honesty. These creatures could get scared of crowds.

The first answer came from Elena, and Jake turned his attention to the witch as she explained that Grindylows were both green and could be found at the bottom of lakes. Smiling at the witch as she answered, Jake gave an enthusiastic nod of his head when she'd finished.

"Right on both accounts, Elena! Five points for Slytherin." Jake responded, before looking around at the other students. "Does anyone know anything else about these creatures? Or are we just dying to get in the tank at the moment, so none of you want to answer?" Jake posed the rhetorical question, showing he would require just a little bit more information before he would give them what they wanted.

After all, they couldn't just jump right in at the deep end -- quite literally -- with these creatures. That would be much too dangerous, and Jake was here to teach them how to deal with the creatures, not how to be overwhelmed by them!

Mimosa had never seen these mysterious creatures before nor heard of them. Weird looking aquatic things was really Squid Boy's area of experties and it looked like today would be the one day he wouldn't make it to class. Still Elena could always be relied on to know the answer and the young brunette grinned when her housemate provided one.

But Elena shouldn't have to take one for the team all the time, the young model figured as her own hand shot up in the air prematurely. When Jake indicated she should go ahead, the girl squinted at the cage, trying to come up with something.

"Umm... If they live at the bottom of lakes and rivers, they can only eat stuff that can be found there." She began, gaining confidence. "Like fish, and the green things that grow on rocks... And I guess even anyone that drowns. That's why its important to learn swimming so you don't get eaten," the witch concluded.

'I'm a good swimmer so I won't get eaten, Bushrah might though!"

The note had come around the common rooms with a mixture of excitement from the kids. Swimwear was the concern for all of the girls -- as if that was what was important for this class! -- but for Nikolai Kessler, it was the note that showed they would be doing something cool! Swimming meant they would be... well, the Slytherin was hoping they would be heading down to the Lake for todays lesson, despite it not being overly warm.

Perhaps he would get to see the Giant Squid up close and personal! Perhaps Professor Newbury -- his name was not Jake no matter how many times he insisted otherwise -- was going to take them down to find the Mermen of the Lake. Or... the possibilities were so endless that Nikolai's usual composed demeanour around the castle had dissipated as he jumped up the stairs two at a time to ensure he wasn't late. Though, why Professor Newbury had not asked them to head straight to the Lake if they were going swimming, Nikolai would never know.

The Slytherin had swooped in to the room just in time to hear Jake explaining what today's lesson would be about -- as if the board hadn't already given it away like it always did -- Nikolai had not been disappointed. Grindylows? They were almost as awesome as the Giant Squid -- not quite, but almost -- and Nikolai felt really rather excited to get involved with the lesson.

Mimosa, as usual, put her two pence in, Nikolai wasn't listening, only just catching the point about Bushrah possibly dying via drowning. Unsympathetically the Kessler boy snorted at the idea of the Gryffindor dying in the lesson. "Can we send Mimosa in first, to make sure it's safe?" The boy piped up, wanting nothing more than to hear the youngest Slytherin to just shut up for a bit. The small smile on the boy's lips hid the fact he was hoping for some peace and quiet for a moment, with the hope it would last a little longer. Not that Nikolai was malicious, he just didn't like her American accent prattling on all the time.

The next person to answer was his daughter, and Jake couldn't help the smile that touched his lips upon hearing her answer to the question he'd posed. It was so pure, so innocent, that Jake simply couldn't help it in that moment. Instead, he nodded to show that he was listening, not interrupting but knowing he might have to correct the terms with which she'd answered.

"Very good, Mimosa, very good. The 'green things' on rocks are algae, but the answer is correct. Five points for Slytherin!" Jake appraised the witch, hoping to keep her spirits up. "And, unfortunately, you're very right. They do sometimes eat humans, which is why they're classed as 'Dark' creatures. Now, of course, I couldn't just bring in a tank of Grindylows and get you to go in unaided. All of you will be aware of the Revulsion Jink -- Relashio -- from our previous studies. You will climb in to the tank, allow a Grindylow to take ahold of your ankle, and then break free with this spell.

"Each of you will get a turn at this, I will be on hand should you not be able to break free on your own." Jake explained, looking around hopefully to the group.

"Can we send Mimosa in first, to make sure it's safe?"

Jake gave a grimace of a smile to the Slytherin male who'd footed the question, not happy with the idea, but not able to tell the boy off for anything in that moment. "If Mimosa would like to go first, she may, unless there is another volunteer?" The professor explained, waiting for someone to step forwards.

OOC: Please have fun with the experience with the Grindylows. There are no stipulations for how long you need to be in the tank, but Jake will not allow any harm to come to the students.

If you're unsure, please ask Smile
