Amalia Sørensen Amalia10

General

Full Name: Amalia Sylvia Ann Sørensen
Age: 16
Date of birth: 14th of March 1998
Birthplace: Hell, Norway
Current home: Hogwarts, UK
Blood Status: Pureblood
Sexual Alignment: Heteroflexible, demiromantic.
Wand type: Eleven and a quarter inches, unicorn tail hair, bird cherry wood.

Looks

Hair colour and style: Light blonde and slightly wavy hair, usually worn down or in a simplistic, classy braided style.
Eye colour: It really depends on the light, but usually they're a soft blue-grey colour. In bright sunlight, they appear slightly green, but no matter what the light is there are ever-present flecks of gold around the edges.
Height: Will grow to be just under 6ft.
Body type: Relatively modelesque; tall, slender with long legs.
Dress sense: Around her parents, she dresses as a pureblood lady ought to. She wears flowing gowns that reach the floor, never higher, and pristine white gloves that reach her elbows. During term time and when not in lessons, however, she prefers to wear skirts and blouses, sometimes knee-length dresses that are decorated in dark, elegant colours.
Birthmarks: She has a light pink birthmark shaped like a star behind the apex of her left ear.
Tattoos: None as of yet, but she intends on getting a tattoo of her
Scars: None, her mother always made sure she was free of preventable markings.
Piercings: None, they were far too much of a muggle thing.

Personality

Likes:
- Expensive jewellery; she blames her upbringing, but her mother and her father always lavished her with expensive gifts for birthdays and Christmas, so she has a particular fondness for the finer things in live.
- Expensive dresses; just like most girls, Amalia adores feeling like a princess. Ball gowns and expensive dresses make her feel worth a million galleons, and she can't get enough of the looks she gets when she enters a room in such clothes.
- Formal parties and balls; while most people can't help but find them boring, Amalia adores them. She loves the atmosphere of being surrounded by people high up in the ranks and dancing with wealthy boys from other families. There's something about the way consorting with boys before she marries is forbidden that gives it an edge, too.
- Quidditch; it really is against Nadja's best wishes that she plays Quidditch, but it was one of the only times in her life when Amalia put her foot down. The first time she mounted a broom back in her first year, she felt a rush, she felt alive, and she insisted- kicking and screaming- that she be allowed to play. The buzz she felt all those years ago still floods through her whenever she takes off.

Dislikes:
- Arranged marriages; as much as she values everything purebloods stand for, the idea of being sold to another family and being used as a maid for the rest of her days is terrifying. Amalia wants to do things with her life, but that's not how it's meant to be, and as much as she hates that, she knows it's what will do her family proud.
- Muggleborns and their supporters; they have always bugged the witch to some degree. She doesn't trust them, and still wonders where the hell their magical ability came from. Still, she doesn't go out of her way to make their lives miserable, unlike some others.
- Potions homework; or any homework, really. It's just pointless, and she doesn't think she'll ever drop the concept that the teacher should really be able to teach everything in the space of the lesson instead of throwing more work at their students outside of them. She does it though, not because she wants to, but because she's aware of the consequences should she not do so.
- The cold; it's bitter and it stings her cheeks and makes her nose red and run- Amalia would really rather not trek down to her Care of Magical Creatures lessons in the middle of winter, but life can be like that sometimes.
- Feeling unwell; even the common cold makes Amalia feel like she ought to spend three weeks in the Hospital Wing. Having a scratchy throat and a splitting headache never sat well with her, so she tends to stay in bed on those kind of days.

Strengths:
- Dance; as a young witch, Amalia's mother insisted that she take dance lessons (amongst every other kind of lesson ever- honestly, it was starting to become a little bit too much for her in the end). She always favoured ballroom, though, and still waits around the edge of the dancefloor at balls, praying she'll be asked for a waltz by a gentleman so charming he could put a prince to shame.
- Her abilities on the broom; as aforementioned, Amalia is an absolute killer on a broomstick. She blocks out all sounds and focuses completely on the game, on her teammates and on the Quaffle. There's nothing that helps her get her head around things more than a quick fly around the castle.
- Magical understanding; not only does Amalia understand the theory side of magic, she is a dab hand at the practical side too. In a controlled, stress-free environment, Amalia can produce quite wondrous results.

Weaknesses:
- Bad under pressure; one of her biggest flaws is that she can't perform when she's put under any kind of pressure. She can just about handle doing spells or duels in a controlled environment when she's in front of others, but she really does dread the day she's put into an actual fight that's worth something. The only reason she can manage Quidditch is because she can block the crowd out, and treat it just like practice.
- Emotionally detached; in her years, Amalia has seen deceit and she has seen flat out betrayal. She has seen numerous family members be burnt off the tapestry that stands proud in the dining room. She knows that whoever she marries won't really love her, and she's shut herself off from everyone because she can't deal with the thought that someone might love her and not be able to be with her forever.
- Emotionally weak; hiding behind her tough, confident exterior is really just a little girl who wants a fairy tale ending. She dreams of meeting her true love, even now as a sixteen year old, and really wishes that one day she'll be able to find a loophole to it all. It's not just that either, but she can't handle anyone saying a bad word against her. She'll come up with a snarky retort and walk away with her head held high, but whatever that person said will haunt her for absolute days.

Positive traits:
- Studious; one of the first things she was taught in her etiquette lessons was that she should always work hard, no matter how much she detested whatever it was she was working towards. There was something new to learn every day, and as far as her maid was concerned, books held the most splendid of adventures.
- Always well behaved; once again, something from the etiquette lessons. She was always well turned out and well spoken for, in a voice that made other people think she was the biggest snob of them all. Her accent is heavy, but there is an unmistakable air of supremacy about her. She is always on her best behaviour at school and refuses to get in trouble, mostly because she's scared of what her parents will say if she lands a detention.
- Honest; perhaps it's positive, perhaps it really, really isn't. Sometimes she's a little bit overly so, but she will always give her complete and utter honest opinion. If her roommate wants a date outfit, so be it, she is happy to help, and if someone wants her to proof-read an essay, she is glad they asked. She's a little brutal with the truth though, and it doesn't always land her in everyone's good books, but she never lies.
- Bursting with confidence; it was sort of a fake it 'til you make it situation at first. She walked around as she had been taught: head held high, shoulders back, lips just a little pursed and her feet turned out just enough that she seemed open to everything. Now, she genuinely loves herself, realises that she is beautiful and that she can do what she sets her mind to, so she gleefully acts that way.

Negative traits:
- Closed-minded; once Amalia has made a judgement about somebody, it takes a lot to get her to change her mind. She also follows her family's ideals just a little bit too strongly, so if she comes across a mudblood muggleborn, she will turn her nose up and try to deal with them as quickly as possible.
- Arrogant; a combination of her confidence and her upbringing, Amalia thinks the world of herself and it comes across as arrogant more than half the time. She tries to tone it down around people she wants to like her, but at the end of the day, it's their decision, not hers to make, so she just can't bring herself to care about those particular beings.
- Patronising; it's simple: Amalia thinks she is better than everyone around her. She is smarter than the younger students, she is more worthy than those of a dirtier blood than herself, and she is prettier than the other girls she knows. Or at least, most of them. She talks down to people, not on purpose, but because she thinks that everyone needs things explaining to them in laymans terms.

Background

After thirteen hours of agonising labour, Amalia Sylvia Ann Sørensen was brought into the world. She weighed in at six and a half pounds, measuring seventeen inches exactly and screaming loud enough to actually cause break a vase that sat on the windowsill of the bedroom. Amalia was the first born child of newlyweds Nadja and Henrik, who had opted for their daughter to be born at their home on the outskirts of Hell, Norway.

As soon as Amalia was old enough to walk and talk, she was thrust straight into learning everything she would ever need to know- and some extra things that to be honest, the witch was sure she would never understand. She was taught how to politely request more tea, how to walk with a book on her head, the order with which she ought to use her cutlery at meals, how to dance a waltz, a tango, a foxtrot, a quickstep and just about any other dance she might need in her life.

By the time she was just nine years old, Amalia had two siblings, both of whom had gone through her levels of training, and she was practically a woman. She knew, on foundational levels, how to cook and clean, read, write, dance, sing, she was even quite good musically, favouring the violin and the piano. She would play for her parents when they had guests over, sometimes, but she mostly stuck to her lessons.

When the witch was , and with Durmstrang Institute effectively put out of function due to being unable to recover from the war, the Sørensen family received a letter stating that their daughter was due to attend Hogwarts instead. It was a little bit of a pain - none of the family had moved outside of Norway before, but should they wish for their daughter to receive magical education, it was a venture they needed to take.

The move impacted Amalia greatly; she spoke almost no English, but thankfully she picked it up within her first few months. She was reluctant to settle in, a little annoyed that her classmates didn't accept her because of her accent, but soon enough she had a circle of friends she was proud to call her own; a group of friends exactly like her.

Family Background

The Sørensen family took everything in their stride. They were wealthy, they were proud and they were happy, which was something, they realised, was rare amongst families of their lineage. For centuries, they were amongst the best known- and for that matter, most hated- families in Norway, but they couldn't find it in themselves to care. Henrik was raised to think he was better than everyone, to believe he deserved everything and to feel like he was, in fact, the best of the best.

The Bradts, on the other hand, were barely even notable as purebloods. They kept to themselves, nothing about them was ever made public and they just got by as one would expect a standard family to do. They raised their daughter Nadja to respect everyone, to love everything and to think of herself as blessed to even be able to experience the things that she did.

At first, neither Nadja or Henrik were too pleased about the marriage they had arranged for them. Henrik thought he was above marrying such a woman, and Nadja couldn't place for the life of her what she'd done wrong to get such foul luck. She went down the aisle with a scowl on her face and begrudgingly gave her vows. For the first few years, arguments weren't uncommon. They bickered and fought and hated each other, but once they got their disputes out the way, they realised they actually could get on.

Once Nadja announced her pregnancy at the ripe age of twenty one, all of the arguments seemed to stop. They hadn't been trying, exactly, but they hadn't been not trying, so to speak. It wasn't a shock, but it wasn't planned either. Settling into family life would be hard, they both knew that, but they would make it work. They had to.
