PostSubject: Herbology Lesson One - All Years   Tue Sep 01, 2015 6:58 pm

Adam pulled his shirt on, September was a warm one for the man, but he knew that in front of his students it would be way more than inappropriate for him to be shirtless. He'd just finished repotting one of the less mutilating plants than some that he kept and knew he still had a lot of work to do to get the greenhouse back in to shape, but he would get there.

Today's lesson, he hoped would be interesting for the students because he wanted to get off on the right foot with all of them. Of course, there would be the ones who simply were not interested in his lesson, and that was okay, but he would do his best to engage them.

Cleaning his hands off, Adam stepped out of the greenhouse, squinting up towards the castle to see if anyone was coming. As of yet, it seemed clear, but there was definitely time before the lesson began. Moving around the side of the greenhouse, but still in view of the students arriving, Adam simply waited for his new students to arrive, ignoring the small nervous feeling in his stomach.

With the news of a new Herbology Professor, Finley couldn't help but be a little apprehensive about going to the lesson. He'd had a bad experience with teachers before, and he was a little adverse to new professors. But, being a Ravenclaw, he would not let a person come between him and his studies.

Loosening his tie just a little as he stepped in to the grounds with Naomi, Finley wondered if they would be looking at a dangerous plant this lesson, or whether they would be doing something that meant they were safe... Finley wasn't overly fond of unsafe plants, but he was willing to give it a go.

As they neared the greenhouse, Finley pointed out the professor to his best friend and moved in the direction of the man who... well, from the size of the man Finley felt quite uncomfortable, so settled for looking anywhere but at their new professor.

Kai had heard about the new professor in Herbology and it intrigued him almost as much as the thought of magical plants. However, he wasn't exactly intrigued in Herbology. He thought the idea of gardening wasn't for guys so when the professor was a guy himself, Kai scowled. He always thought guys that played around with flowers and gardening type things were feminine, but the sight of the professor told him anything but.

There was only one other student there and he was significantly younger than Kai. However, Kai didn't exactly want to be alone so he went over near the boy, being careful not to stand too close.

The Gryffindor hated the greenhouses with a passion. They were too hot. He cursed the schol and their dress code of black robes and sweaters before dropping his bag to the ground. There had been no sign of the lesson for today so Kai had no clue what he had gotten himself into.

The girl was bound to either do something with Runes or magical plants. Maybe she might even be a Healer, who knew. However, the girl's largest fascinations were the many magical plants and the Runes. That morning, Layla had practically bounded out of bed at the realisation she'd be attending her first Herbology class. She was also intrigued a bit by the new professor they'd have.

The girl raced down to the greenhouses, he bag bouncing on her hip as her legs hit against it.

When she reached the greenhouses, she could see the professor outside and she called out to him an excited greeting before entering and standing across from the other two boys that were there. Offering the boys a small smile, the girl let her bag hit the floor before placing her hands in front of her, patiently awaiting the beginning of class. She hadn't bothered introducing herself since they were both older, she assumed they didn't care to speak to her.

With only three students turning up to his class, Adam couldn't deny he was a little put out at the lack of attendance. However, that negativity would be dealt with at a later time, because right now he had three students absolutely willing to try and achieve this year. Forcing a smile on to his lips, Adam began.

"Good morning everyone, and welcome to your first Herbology lesson with me. For those of you who don't know who I am, I am Professor Samuels, and I will be teaching you this year." He told them, giving them a smile to show that he wasn't too scary. "Now, today's lesson we will be looking at this plant." The man explained, motioning behind him to a blue coloured plant. It was a bulb in essence, but many referred to it as looking like a slug, and on top of it were yellow pods already looking ready to burst.

"Can anybody tell me what this plant is?" Adam asked, looking expectantly between the three faces before him.

Naomi practically skipped down to Herbology with Finley. She was ecstatic when she learned that they would finally have a proper professor instead of her just teaching herself out of books. The pair reached the greenhouse first, with Naomi beaming at the professor and wishing his a good morning.

She noticed that Finley looked apprehensive, so she leaned her shoulder against his in support. "He can't be that bad," she whispered to her best friend quietly. "He looks pretty nice, actually."

Quieting as the professor started class, Naomi listened to him introduce himself before gesturing to the plant behind him. Her hand shot into the air. "That's a bubotuber. The parts sticking out have pus in them that, diluted, have several medical benefits. It's also used in some Potions." She blushed, realizing that she sounded like she had memorized the textbook. Which, she practically had, of course, but she didn't need to sound like it.

{{Note: Naomi came in with Finley, so she's not late.}}

OOC: Sorry, forgot about Finley's note!

Having a Ravenclaw answer his question was not a surprise to Adam, when he'd been at the school, things had been much the same, with a few of the braver students chipping in here and there. Herbology had been the only time Adam had really spoken up in his classes. Pushing those memories away, Adam gave the girl who had spoken a small smile, nodding with the information that was given.

"Very well done!" Adam told the girl once she'd finished, checking over the information one more time. "Take five points for Ravenclaw for your answer!" He added, hoping to be encouraging in this lesson so that everyone profited from the lesson.

"For the reason that was stated, we will be collecting the pus for your Potions professor... whatever his name is... I've forgotten." Adam paused, frowning to himself before shaking his head. "To collect the pus, you have to simply squeeze the pods in to bottles. You must wear your dragon hide gloves for this, otherwise you will be covered in boils, which are not pretty, believe me.

"You may work in pairs, if you like, or work on your own. Please go careful, and, of course, have fun!" Adam explained, waving them off to have a go for themselves.

Class Now Closed

Kai Reed - 10 points for attendance
Layla Taylor - 10 points for attendance

Finley Allen - 10 points for attendance
Naomi O'Hare - 10 points for attendance + 5 points for answer = 15 points.

TOTAL:
Gryffindor: 20
Hufflepuff: 0
Ravenclaw: 25
Slytherin: 0
