Being back at Hogwarts had lifted Jake's spirit a lot in the last week. Of course, he was still doing his Auror work around his two days at the school, but he'd missed the kids. Friday had come around quite quickly, and with it came the Flying lessons that he enjoyed just as much as his other classes.

Today, Jake had split the class, knowing that the younger years needed more concentration on the basics - for the most part - and the older years would probably enjoy something more challenging.

Laying out some brooms for the students, Jake wondered what numbers he would be getting today. Hopefully it would be a good amount because he really did want to see as many kids as possible giving flying a go. It was one of the best experiences he knew, and even if people didn't want to join the Quidditch team, Jake believed they should try it out, even if only once.

Zoey looked at the ground shyly as she walked around Hogwarts to her classes. She wanted to make friends, but she was just too nervous to do so. She wanted to make memories, but she was afraid of putting herself out there. For Flying lessons, she decided to change her hair that had been put down, and up in a pony tail. She looked around nervously and noticed that she was the first person to arrive on the quidditch pitch. She looked at the professor, and then looked down at the ground again.

This was something new for her. Her grandmother had been too old to teach her to fly, and she had no male father figure in her life to do so. She felt like she missed out on so much in her childhood due to not having parents. The thought made her sad at times, but deep down she knew it happened a long time ago, so she couldn't change the past. She just wished she had a normal childhood like most of the kids her age did.

But now she was at school. A place she knew her parents thought deeply about. It might not be the school her grandmother thought she would end up in, but at least she was doing something with her life to show her parents that she can be invincible. Yesterday had been an ok day, and now Zoey was going to do the best she could to make up for it. She was going to thrive. If only she didn't have a fear of heights, then her plan could be put into action.

Jacques was, as any Clement would be, an above average person. He was intelligent, he was sophisticated for his age, and anything that was put to him, he did well in with little and less effort. Which meant Hogwarts was something of a holiday from the stifling tutors the Clement household had in their service.

Seeing Flying lessons come up on his timetable, Jacques made no effort to get down to the class early. After all, it was only the soft Professor Newbury that was teaching, and you only had to look sorry (even if you weren't) and he'd let you get away with it. Despite his plan, however, Jacques was still one of the first to the lesson. Frowning to himself, Jacques moved to stand by the side of the Hufflepuff that was already there.

He didn't bother to greet either of the two people already there, however, because he simply wasn't interested in either of them. So, instead, Jacques waited for their instructions to be given.

With the kids turning up, Jake smiled warmly to each of them, hoping to be warm and welcoming to all of them. Of course, he was not so stupid as to think his mere size wasn't intimidating, so he knew it would take more than a smile.

Checking his watch, Jake saw that it was time for the lesson to get moving, so with a small clap of his hands to get the attention of the students before him, Jake started the lesson. "Good morning, everyone. Welcome back for another year at Hogwarts, or, for the younger years, welcome to Hogwarts. My name is Jake, and there will be no need to call me Professor, or Professor Newbury whilst I'm teaching.

"Today, we will be going over the basics of flying." Jake explained, motioning to his broom that was led on the floor beside him. "To begin with, you must earn the trust of the broom, to do this you must show a willingness to fly. Simply place your right hand over the broom, and firmly say the word Up." Jake explained. The demonstration was finished when his own broom moved instantly to his hand.

"Once you have managed this - don't worry if its not in the first attempt - you can mount your broom, one leg either side. Wait until I give further instructions before you continue further. When you're ready, please begin."

Naomi was late. She was late to one of her favorite classes with her favorite professor who had recently been attacked by Dark wizards.

She felt awful.

It was all the fault of a book, as it usually was. She had staid up late reading and had, as a result, slept in far past when she should have been up. After rushing through the Great Hall and shoving a muffin in her bag, she sprinted across the grounds, broom in hand. Checking her watch, she realized that she could still make it within the first few minutes of class if she could only go faster.

Realizing that, duh, she had a broom, Naomi hopped on, speeding towards the Quidditch Pitch. She screeched to a halt just outside the group, hopping off and running up. "Sorry I'm late, Jake," she panted. "Overslept." She noted the position of the other two students and mounted her broom without taking off.

While waiting for further instruction, she took the time to study the young professor. He seemed to be doing alright, as his letter had promised, and Naomi was happy to see that he was recovering from his attack well. A little bit of tension inside of her loosened and she let out a quiet breath.

When another student turned up, Jacques simply raised an eyebrow in her direction. He'd spoken to the witch once, and if he remembered her name began with N. But past that, Jacques didn't really feel the need to associate himself with her. They both knew, Jacques could tell from the girl's excuse, that Professor Newbury wasn't going to do very much in the way of telling her off, so he turned his attention away from the Ravenclaw.

When they were told what they would be doing, Jacques moved to the school brooms, selecting one and moving back to his space. He had to make a note to tell his father to send his own so that he wouldn't have to use these in future. An oversight on his behalf, perhaps.

Putting his right hand over the broom, Jacques cleared his throat softly, before speaking the single word they'd been told to. "Up." The Slytherin said with confidence, only to see the broom jiggle on the floor for a moment. Scowling at the broom, Jacques quickly looked around to make sure no one had seen before trying again.

"Up." He said with much more force, the broom shooting to his hand a moment later as a smirk touched his features. Swinging his leg over the wood, Jacques waited for further instructions from the professor.

Checking his watch, Jake noted that it was time to call the lesson to and end. Even if it did seem way too soon. Checking on the progress of his students, Jake gave them a small smile to say well done before calling out to them. "Okay everyone, it doesn't seem like we had much time to progress this time, but I assure you we will next time.

"You're dismissed and I hope to see you all next time!" With that, Jake motioned for them to leave the field, not wanting to hold them up for their next lessons of the day, whatever that might be.

Once they'd all left the field, Jake tidied away the brooms that he'd gotten out for the lesson, heading up towards the castle ready to floo home to see Veronika.
