DADA - Lesson Three (First to Fourth Years) Empty
PostSubject: DADA - Lesson Three (First to Fourth Years)   DADA - Lesson Three (First to Fourth Years) EmptySun Nov 01, 2015 9:51 am

Veronika was starting to show now, they had only four more months to wait before their child would come in to the world, and Jake was... well, he was very, very excited. But nervous too. They'd discussed names, and the like, and Jake had started to look in to bigger homes for the three of them. He didn't know whether the two bedroom flat would be enough, long term, but for now, Veronika and he had enough space.

Telling his parents had been one of the best, and worst times of his life, truth be told. His mother had been ecstatic at the thought of becoming a grandma, whilst his father had not looked too pleased, but forced a smile with a subtle nudge from his mom.

Jake had found out later as to why his dad had looked not so pleased, and he agreed with the man. Jake had hoped to do things the 'right' way with Veronika, get married, then get a nice house together, then make a family, but things didn't always work exactly how you planned. But, Jake had promised his dad that he would - when the opportunity presented itself, at least have a ring on Veronika's finger before the baby came.

Opening the door to his classroom, Jake readied himself for the next class. Whilst he was excited for the arrival of his son, or daughter, there were more urgent matters to attend to. The attack on the school had left many people shell-shocked, there were funerals to attend as a member of the school staff, and there were mountains of paperwork to do when he got to both his teaching and Auror job.

A break, Jake reflected, would be nice, but he owed everything to his students first.

Moving to the board, Jake wrote down a single phrase.

Defence: When is it best to attack, and when is it best to run/hide?

Defense Against the Dark Arts. A lovely lesson but Sapphire had to wonder. In order to defend themselves against them, shouldn't they be taught those dark arts first? Of course that would be terrible, since there's always someone wanted something bad, and handing him that power would be unspeakable. But still..

Gathering her things, she readied herself for her first lesson and moved out of the Common Room and up the Grand Staircase to the Third Floor, where the Classroom was.
She stopped outside and took some time to think. Would she be alone again, during the lesson? After the attack many families were scared to send their children back. And she could understand why.

But this wasn't right.

Sighing, she walked inside, knowing she was quite early and wasn't surprised when she found herself to be the first in the class. A morning bird, as her grandmother told her.
"Good morning, Professor!" she said with a very small smile and then waited patiently for the next students to arrive.

Lux took her time heading towards the DADA classroom. She knew she had time and wasn't in any hurry to coop herself up in yet another classroom. After the excitement of the attack, returning to the routine of attending classes made Lux want to throw herself off the highest point of the building out of boredom. She really wished the attack had lasted longer.

DADA was one of the subjects she found not quite so boring and Lux was glad for that small gold nugget of relief. If she had to suffer through some uninteresting class, she would probably go crazy. It really should be a crime to make people go back to normal after such an exciting occurrence.

Taking a deep breath to put herself in learning mode, she entered the classroom and greeted the professor with a nod before heading to the back of the classroom. Once she was settled, she glanced at the board and read the question before smirking. Attack when you know you can win, hide when you know you can't she thought. Of course she knew other factors complicated it but her reasoning was logical, wasn't it? And there was another answer. Attack when they least expect it and hide when you become predictable. That was reasonable too. But she'd wait to find out what the professor wanted them to learn.

Alfie sighed. DADA was not a class he loved. For a Ravenclaw, there was very few classes that he did like. It was the ones that required books to be read and not duties to be performed. Of course, they had their text book, and he read it, but when they came to class, and he actually had to practice the spells he was reading, he was bloody useless. It was embarrassing when Cooper mastered the spells before he did because he was supposed to be the smart one out of the twinship, but lately he was seeing that he was really underestimating Cooper, and he felt really bad about it.

He really needed to give Cooper some credit. Cooper was doing great, and Alfie was the one who was freaking out about everything. Alife sulked onto yet aanother class, and still more questions than answers formed in his mind about the recent attacks. He hoped this professor would be more willing to answer them, but by the looks of it, he was unsure. He had never been more afraid to ask questions in his entire life. Questions was one thing Alfie was good at.

He loved learning, and reading, and school, and yet, these where the things he was finding most difficult. In the beginning it had been simple. Now not so much. Alfie was truly worried for his future. He hoped things lightened up soon and he could just be a boy again like Cooper. He put on a fake smile with his twin as they walked next to each other into the classroom. He at least wanted him to know that everything was ok. Even if it was a lie.

Zoey had nightmares after the attack. She had dreamed that she had been killed. She had that nightmare night after night and she was terrified to sleep. She was mentally and emotionally exhausted. She almost wanted to go to the nurse to ask for a sleeping draught but didn't know how to ask for it. It wasn't something she asked for every day, and she was terrified. Zoey put on a fake smile as she entered DADA.

It wasn't a class she hated, but she didn't quiet like it either. She wasn't spectacular with her wand, and no matter how much she practiced, nothing seemed to help. She was tempted to ask the Professor for help, but once again, she was terrified of her elders. Which she knew she shouldn't be. But Zoey couldn't help that she was.

She skipped in the classroom, and stopped and looked around for a place to sit. There were several students in the room already. She shrugged and went over to a wall. She then looked shocked at the board. She sank down to the floor, not ready for this lesson at all.

Stepping in to Defence Against the Dark Arts on his own, Finley looked around for Sumire, and then Madison and sighed when neither of them were there. Naomi was... well, running late, Finley supposed as she hadn't met him like usual, so Finley tried to decide as to who he should go to next.

His eyes fell on a Gryffindor who looked roughly the same age as him, so he moved towards her. The Ravenclaw was still quite timid, but after taking a deep breath, he gave the girl a small smile, and a soft "Hi." The word came out in a couple of different pitches in that moment, but it was without stutter, and for that much, Finley was thankful.

She was pretty, which was perhaps the worst case scenario for Finley, but he had managed a hello. With his cheeks starting to warm, Finley looked back towards the professor, and gave him a small smile in hello.

Hailey decided that she was even more changed now than she was before. Aliens didn't exist, no matter how much she wanted them too, optimism was a bad idea because one was always let down, and lastly, she was a coward. She could've easily gone and helped down at the battle. She didn't realize how much she had really wanted to go and help until after it was over.

She shied away in the corner pretending like she didn't exist and felt terrible about herself. Nothing was going right now. She wasn't positive if it ever would go right ever again. She realized she was just a 13 year old girl and she didn't have control over such things, but it killed her that she didn't go and help. It killed her that a professor had died and a student and she didn't do anything.

She lived up to the pureblood expectations, and she was really disappointed in herself. She couldn't express it enough. Which was why when she walked into class, she sighed when she saw the board. She went over to the wall and leaned against the corner. Nothing was going right today, and she couldn't help but blame herself for it.

As the class filled up, Jake smiled towards each of the students in turn. His Defence Against the Dark Arts class was busy, as was usual, and he couldn't help but feel a little proud of his achievements throughout the year. However, now was not the time to reflect on how well he'd done, now was the time for his students.

"Good morning, everyone!" Jake greeted the class with a warm smile. "Now, today we'll be looking at something that sways a little from the syllabus in that it expects you to think outside of the box, rather than simply repeating the book." Jake explained, hoping that the students were up to something a little more trying than normal.

"Now, I'm not going to lecture you, I'm simply going to give you a scenario, and I want at least one of you to explain how you would deal with the situation. Be as creative as you can, and make sure you take in the whole scenario before you jump to a conclusion." Jake insisted, looking around the room to make sure that everyone was looking.

"Okay, first one:

"You're walking down a darkened alley. Each of you remains the age you are currently, with the spells you know at hand. Remember that you're capabilities have not changed. As your walk further in to the alleyway, you start to feel a little cold, but you shake it off, it is evening.

"The coldness continues as you walk on, and a feeling of... unhappiness starts to creep through your body, you can't really see very much at the moment. Looking before you however, you can just make out a shape, that appears to be floating, and a weird sound - that symbolises breathing - can be heard.

"What would you do?" Jake asked, waiting patiently for an answer from any one of the children before him. There was no right answer, not really, he just wanted a discussion to evolve in the classroom.

Alberi was a mess after the attack. He hardly managed to make himself eat, he hardly slept. He felt worthless. Before he never actually seen that, never seen how weak he was in reality. All his reading of books and thinking led him to picking stones, from all the things he could do! All his level headness simply vanished when he needed it the most. Now did he realize just what he was doing wrong. But it didn't help him much. He had no idea what to do, how to change. And that really made him more reserved than ever though for a completely different reason than most times.

And now? Now Alberi was desperately trying to be on time for class. Part of him was surprised that they actually continued on with school, though otherwise he was glad - now he could try to be less... Worthless. And hope for the best. Though at this rate, oversleeping wasn't helping him one bit - hardly having time to eat some left over toast from the day before, he went as fast as he could to the class room, trying to flatten down his hair in the meanwhile. He didn't even have the ime yo properly brush... Arriving at the classroom, he flatten his hair one last time before entering. “Sorry for being late, professor...” He said and quickly seated himself somewhere, not really caring on the where. Afterwards he looked at the board and read it. Good, at least that's what he needed to learn for the moment... He was so pathetic, he didn't even know when to fight and when to hide!

Lux listened to the professor drone on. She barely registered anything he said until he began relating the scenario to them. Now, this was a little more interesting. She listened carefully and thought for a while, formulating her answer.

Just as she was about to speak, she was interrupted by a late comer. Rude much she thought though she had no place thinking that since there was no doubt she was one of the rudest people alive on the planet. But to interrupt her? No one interrupted her. Shed' get her revenge later though. Preferably when no professors were around.

Ignoring him for now, she raised her hand and spoke up. "I'd cast a Lumos first of all," she replied then proceeded to explain her choice. "Since it's dark and I can't really see, I won't know what I'm dealing with until I have some light. I don't think it would help me to cast a random spell before knowing what I'm up against."
