Zander's Bark

Zander had been up late the night before preparing a special Valentine's Day dinner for Victoria the next day. However, being the overachiever he was, he'd managed to finish dinner, laundry, clean his apartment and now he was studying his animagi training, which Victoria knew nothing about. He wanted to surprise her one day by transforming. Recently he had discovered his animagi was a red fox and he had begun practicing transfiguring into his animagi and back, however he'd never attempted to transform outside the classroom.

However, choosing to practice outside the classroom on a day he wasn't completely rested and clear headed was probably a big mistake. He knew Victoria would be over soon and despite the fact they'd been dating since November, he still got extremely nervous around her. He was terrified of screwing up and losing her, especially because he didn't think he'd ever find someone else like her. He didn't even deserve her, or at he that's what he thought.

The boy had transfigured perfectly into the pup form of a red fox. Even his suit and tie had shrunk to fit him still. He was told that as he developed, the fox would too so eventually, it would be an adult fox as opposed to a young one. However, he was stuck, he couldn't figure out how to turn back and tat worried him. He tried and tried for hours with no luck and finally, defeated he hopped onto his bed and took a nap.

A knock on the door woke him and he panicked. Victoria. What was he supposed to do? He tried to tell her to come in, but instead, a bunch of chirps and purrs and barks came out, none of which the poor girl would understand. Sighing, or at least trying to sigh, he accepted defeat and laid his head back down as he heard the doorknob turn. At least he left the door unlocked.

His felt horribly embarrassed and also realised his training would no longer be a surprise to her.

This was, Victoria was absolutely sure, the first time someone had invited her out for Valentine's Day. To say she was excited was the biggest understatement in the world. Hurrying in to town the weekend before with her girl friends, Victoria had listened to their good (and often bad) advice on what she should wear. A few suggestions made the witch blush, and quickly walk away, insisting that Zander was not like that.

Eventually, however, Victoria had picked out a ddress for the evening, with matching shoes. Of course, Victoria was quite sure it wouldn't matter to Zander what she wore, but Victoria wanted to look pretty for him, because this was both of their night.

After brushing her hair through for the final time, Victoria had picked up her clutch (with magical extension that had everything anyone could ever need in it) and slipped out of her apartment (key included) heading towards Zander's. Knocking on the door, Victoria waited nervously - she had butterflies because she simply didn't know what to expect from the evening.

The noise that met her ears, however, was one that made Victoria frown. Opening her purse, Victoria rifled through it's contents to find Zander's room key (they'd swapped their spare keys after Christmas because it was easier) and let herself in. "Zander?" Victoria called out following the sound that met her ears until she stood by her boyfriend's bed, looking at a fox. Frowning a little at the sight, Victoria moved to the side of the bed, kneeling down beside the animal and moving carefully so not to scare it.

Examining the animal, features seemed familiar... before...

"Zander?" Victoria asked increduously, raising a hand to her mouth in shock, her eyes going wide at the realisation. "You never... That doesn't matter right now."

Reaching in to her bag, Victoria slipped her wand from inside, and flicked in in her boyfriend's direction with the counter spell for his transformation. "What are you trying to do?" Victoria asked sternly, though her wonderment prevailed her anger. "You do know that it's dangerous to try that unsupervised! Please tell me you're doing this legally, Zander?" The witch asked, shaking her head at the mere thought he was illegally trying the transformations.

"You looked great though, convincing!" She added after a moment, her worry turning in to pride as she took a few more breaths.

PostSubject: Re: What Does the Fox Say? (Victoria)   Tue Oct 27, 2015 3:48 am

As a fox, everything looked different to Zander. Colours seemed more vibrant and his vision was different, better in a way, however everything was angled weird, almost like looking through glass and Zander found that odd. His blue eyes locked on Victoria as she opened his door and knelt down beside him, confused it seemed. She was beautiful, stunning in her dress and it took Zander's breath away, though it was hard to tell because he was a fox.

At his name, he gave her a happy chirp sound because that was all he could make. He made different pitched tones, some for each emotion he could feel but he had no idea if they actually sounded any different. Letting out another chirp, he tried to explain his reasoning behind telling her but quickly realised it would be pointless as she didn't understand fox speak. He heaved his head back down on the bed and looked up at her with sad eyes, hoping she'd understand that he was in fact, stuck.

He watched as she reached into her bag and pulled out her wand and for a moment, his breath stopped and panic rose. She was going to change him back. What if his clothes didn't grow with him? Oh Merlin. He moved his tail to cover his eyes as she pointed her wand at him.

Looking down, he let out a sigh of relief to see that his suit had grown back to accommodate his human form. "I was told to practice," he said, looking down to the ground. He was extremely embarrassed. "I just didn't have enough sleep to successfully transfigure back into human form."

The more he admitted out loud, the more he felt ashamed. "I was wanting to surprise you, it's why I never told."

"Of course I'm doing this legally, I'm going to be an Auror after all," he noted, there was no way he'd get into trouble and ruin his future career.

"Hello beautiful," he smiled and gave her a small kiss before escorting her to where he had a candlelit dinner prepared.

When Zander admitted to not having enough sleep before trying to do a Transformation, Victoria just let out a soft sigh. "Zander..." She breathed, worry touching her features some more. "You know that that isn't good! Please, don't do it in this state again, you could have been really hurt!" She insisted, being a little firmer with him than she normally was because this was very important, and she really cared about his well being.

"And it's a beautiful surprise, but please, please, please, don't ever put yourself in danger to try and surprise me. You don't need to do extravagant things for me to be interested in you. I like you just the way you are. Though, you're very cute as a fox." Victoria told him, smiling up at her boyfriend as she thought to how cute the fox cub had looked on Zander's bed only a few moments ago. Especially now she wasn't confused, and panicking for her boyfriend's safety.

The fact he was doing it legally came as a relief, though. With Jake in the job he was in, and Zander wanting to be in that job too, it would leave her in a very sticky situation - especially with her own career - if she kept his Animagus status a secret. That burden, however, was not one she was going to have to bear.

As the kiss came to her lips, Victoria let out a soft sigh against Zander - not yet used to the way he made her feel when he did that. "Hello handsome." Victoria breathed back, her smile growing as he led her through to their dinner that looked, well, exquisite. "Oh!" The witch explained, reaching in to her bag for the third time that evening and pulling out a decent sized box and passing it to him over the table.

"I got you something. It's not quite what my friends thought you'd like, but..." Victoria's cheeks went a little darker in that moment. "Well, I thought you'd appreciate this more." Victoria explained, waiting for him to open the box.

The present was one Victoria had personalised herself when she had returned home, giving the bear a small American flag scarf to make it more suited to her, and then placing a spell on it, that made it hug the person back when cuddled. "Give him a squeeze." Victoria insisted once Zander had opened it, smiling to herself.

If, and when, Zander did that, the bear would tell him that she loved him. Apart from, unlike any other teddy, it would be spoken in Victoria's own voice, with much more feeling than a machine could ever muster.

He nodded feeling a bit defeated. "I'm sorry Vic," his head hung down, "I'll be more careful." He felt bad that Victoria had found him like that and he even felt bad that he had told her the truth because she worried a lot and it was understandable even if he did wish she wouldn't worry quit as much. He wrapped his arms around her, comforting her and trying to show that he was okay and that he was, in fact, sorry.

"I know you do," he kissed the top of her head. He liked her the way she was too and he didn't know why this was such a big surprise but it was. He couldn't explain why it was meant to be so special, it just was. He blushed, still embarrassed, "Thanks, I'm glad my clothes grew with me," his voice trailed off a bit causing him to turn an even brighter shade of red. "From a fox' eyesight, you're just as pretty, if not prettier, assuming that's possible," he whispered to her, his finger caressing her cheek.

Every time their lips met, it took Zander off guard and he assumed one day it wouldn't but he he hoped it did. He liked the shock of kissing Victoria. He liked the way it made him feel, the tingling of his body, the warmth that drew from her into him and vice versa. If there ever came a day where kissing Victoria Newbury wasn't thrilling, then he would for sure be in Hell. At her exclamation, he looked up after having pulled out her chair for her to sit and then sitting after. He was worried something happened, instead he was being handed a box.

He nodded as he listened to her and wondered what on earth her friends thought he could like. He opened the box as he let his mind wonder.

When he pulled out the bear he smiled and when she told him to give it a squeeze, he did and smiled even bigger. "It's perfect, like you," he smiled to her. Now he'd always have her with him. "I love you too," he laughed a bit, looking to his girlfriend.

Suddenly remembering the little box, he pulled it out his pocket and handed it to her. He waited for her to open and when she did, he caught the familiar glint of the ring. "A crown for my Queen," he smiled.

When Zander mentioned his clothes, and how they might not have grown back with him, Victoria flushed a little. "I... didn't think of that..." The witch replied, trying not to think about what would have happened if that situation would have arisen. She was, honestly, quite glad it hadn't, because she wasn't completely sure that she'd of known how to react to that.

As they sat down, and Zander opened his present, Victoria watched him closely, making sure he liked the gift she had picked out. Yes, it might not be the best present for a boy, but Victoria knew Zander wasn't like most guys. He was much sweeter, and when he told her he loved her, Victoria grinned back at him. She was glad he'd said that, even if she didn't need him to say those words. Because it meant that he was feeling the same way she did, content like she was. Nothing could of made her happier, truth be told.

But when he presented her with a small box, Victoria took it carefully in her hand. Thankful he hadn't presented it - because it was much too early for anything like that, Victoria gently pushed the lid open. A soft gasp left Victoria's lips as she saw the ring inside, and a smile radiated on her lips in an instant. "It's beautiful..." Victoria breathed, taking it carefully from the box, Victoria slipped it on to her right hand ring finger, and admired whilst Zander spoke of her being his queen.

A blush resonated in her cheeks at his words, before she looked back at him across the table, her hand reaching over to take his. "Please tell me you didn't spend all your money on my present..." The witch asked gently, because she knew Zander had to pay for everything himself, and she simply couldn't expect so much of him. Especially not on something so beautiful. "I love it, but you don't have to spend lots of money on me..."

He laughed when her face flushed. "Well I definitely would've been embarrassed," he said, his cheeks turning a dull pink colour. He couldn't imagine being near naked in front of Victoria, well at least not yet. Eventually, maybe, but not now. Also, he would've felt bad about it because it would've been his fault for not having rested before trying to transfigure into his animagi.

He could feel Victoria watching him as he opened his gift and he wondered if she was worried he wouldn't like it. Didn't she mention that already? Zander didn't know. However, there had been no reason for her to have worried because he loved it. He loved everything from it just like he loved her. How couldn't he? Her grin at him caused him to grin back at her. He knew he didn't need to tell her he loved her because he proved it, quite often. He proved it with their dates and his hugs and cuddles and kisses.

He knew that Victoria hated when he spent money on her. it was just her. She didn't like Zander spoiling her and she tried to repay him back. In fact, the first time she repayed him back had been because he let her stay in his room after she locked herself out. It was a nice gesture that he never thought would lead them to where they were now, however, he would never change any of it. He wished she didn't feel the need to constantly repay him, but he knew he could never change that and he wouldn't want to. He'd never want to change her. "I'm glad you like it," he smiled.

He wanted to roll his eyes in a joking manner but he didn't, mainly because he didn't know how she'd take it. "I didn't spend all my money on your present." He gave her a smile and grabbed her hand before bringing it to his lips and kissing it. The ring fit her perfectly and Zander was quite proud of himself. "I spent all my money on today's events," he smiled, "just kidding." He chuckled a bit. He was happy, content. "I know I don't, but I like to."

As Zander joked about spending all of his money on today, Victoria let out a soft giggle - well, she did once he assured her he was joking about spending all of his money. "You know what I mean." Victoria replied softly once he was finished with his jokes for that evening.

The soft kiss on her hand brought a small smile to Victoria's lips, and she squeezed her boyfriend's hand happily. Zander really did know how to make her feel like a princess, not only today, but for all of the days that they had spent together.

"So, what's for dinner?" Victoria prompted, her stomach giving a small rumble in that moment. "I made sure not to eat too much today so that I didn't ruin the effort you'd gone to this evening." She added in explanation, looking a little embarrassed that her stomach was being so noisy in that moment.

"And, do we have anything planned for after?" Victoria prompted, as she always liked to know what she was doing, even though she knew that tonight was all about Zander and the surprises he wished to present her with.

"I know," he replied, "but I work in order to be able to buy you nice things and take you places," he offered her a smile. He also worked to pay for University and she knew that but also, Hogwarts had given him plenty of scholarships so he really hadn't even needed to worry about it.

When Victoria smiled and squeezed his hand, he smiled back. He really enjoyed being with Victoria and he often told her. In fact, he probably told her so much that she was probably growing irritated with him every time he said something but he didn't care.

Zander cleared his throat, "Zander's Special Italian Alfredo," he gave her a slight smile and a wink as he moved to grab their plates and place it in each respective place on the table. It was simple chicken alfredo but it was also a family recipe, and he was Zander and has to make it sound spectacular because it was. He laughed a bit at her, "I wouldn't have been offended, I would've just sent it home with you."

"We just may," he smiled to let her know that they did have something planned for after but that he would not tell her.

The idea of Zander working hard for her did make a small amount of colour fill Victoria's cheeks, but she shook her head a little. "You should work for you, not for me." Victoria insisted, though, she added. "It means a lot, though, that you think of me whilst you're doing it too."

The witch meant it too, it made her feel very warm inside to know that Zander thought of her in most things, but she needed him to know that she wasn't the type of girl to expect that from him.

When their dinner arrived, Victoria took in the marvelous effort that Zander had made, smiling to herself, Victoria smelt it and looked across the table. "This smells wonderful, Zander, truly wonderful." She told him, appreciating the effort he'd gone to for her that evening.

"Well, I don't think there are going to be any leftovers to take home!" Victoria insisted, lifting her knife and fork from the table and tucking in to the food. Victoria always ate delicately, but when she was around Zander, Victoria ate a little more carefully so as not to get sauce around her mouth, or make a silly noise whilst she ate that might be embarrassing. The witch didn't mind eating around him, though, she just didn't want to ruin their time together with something so silly.

The hint they would be doing something made Victoria frown at her boyfriend. "That, Zander, is a tease!" She told him, trying to be huffy for a moment, but failing as she let out a soft giggle instead. "I look forward to finding out though!" The American witch added, continuing to eat her dinner, letting out a soft 'mmm' to show she was enjoying it.

Zander smiled when he saw a bit of colour rise to Victoria's cheeks. Of course, it did not last long before she shook her head and told him how he shouldn't work for her. "I'm not working for you, but I don't like spending my money on myself all the time," Zander replied, "I always think of you."

There wasn't a day, week, month or year that went by without Zander thinking about Victoria every second, minute and hour. To some people it may seem creepy, but Zander didn't mean for it to come across that way. He just wanted her to understand how much he cared about her.

"I hope it tastes a wonderful as it smells," Zander laughed hoping he did his family name justice and followed the recipe well enough to have made it taste as good as it was supposed to. "It's an old Köhler family recipe," Zander smiled as she commented on how great it smelled.

"I sure hope not," he laughed once again as Victoria insisted there would be nothing left to take home. When he saw her lift her utensils and tuck in to the meal, so did he. He had a feeling that she ate carefully around him because what girl didn't, he also ate carefully around her because he didn't want her thinking that he was a slob. However, he longed for the day when they would just eat normally around each other. That would be the day that Zander knew there would be no turning back in their relationship.

Zander grinned wide when Victoria frowned. He loved surprises and it seemed like she wasn't as much of a fan about them. "I know, I just enjoy teasing you," he huffed back to her as he smiled at her attempt to be huffy because it was cute. She was cute. He couldn't wait til she found out what they would be doing next because he was sure she'd love it, especially since it was one of those sappy things that happened in romance movies.

It didn't take too long for Victoria to get through her food. Not in a piggish manner, of course, but she ate carefully yet at a good pace. The food had been divine and she simply didn't know how Zander had learnt to cook so well, but she appreciated.

Picking up the napkin from her lap, Victoria dabbed her lips gently and smiled across the table at her boyfriend. "That was delicious, Zander. Thank you." The American witch insisted. "Though I will have to ask you for the recipe, or steal it at some point." She joked softly, though in fairness, Victoria could probably find the recipe if she wanted to, copy it and be away before he even realised.

Unless it was in his head.

The comment on teasing made Victoria giggle softly in that moment. "Even though it's mean?" The witch jested, before shaking her head. "It's fine, really, I am looking forward to whatever it is. So long as we're together, I don't mind what we do." Victoria summarised, looking expectantly to Zander for an answer which may give her a clue to just what he had in mind for them to do that day.

The food was better than he ever would have thought it to be, especially since he actually had no idea whether the recipe would actually work or not. He actually felt quite thankful that he hadn't managed to completely screw up their food or he would've had to   order take out.

"It's my pleasure," he smiled, wiping his own mouth with a napkin as well. He chuckled at her next words. "Well it's a family recipe, so maybe one day I'll have to give it to you," his tone was light, one that showed her he was joking or at least trying to portray that he was joking because he would like to make Victoria family, years down the road but only if she too agreed. Of course, it wouldn't be til they were both out of University and settled into their own careers if they were still together at that point.

Which he hoped to Merlin they were.

Her giggles made him smile because they were so pure, so innocent, so sweet. "Even though it's mean," he replied. He was far too romantic for his own good and at that thought he stood up and walked around the table to her, conjuring up a single red rose to hand to her as he extended his hand. "Well then, what about we go find out what that surprise is?" He was really glad that she just wanted to be with him because that was the one thing he could guarantee her; she wouldn't have to go through life alone.

The comment about hopefully being able to tell her the recipe was not lost on Victoria. Her eyes widened in that moment, her cheeks growing warm at the insinuation. Even if Victoria didn't want to think too much about the prospect, she couldn't help but wonder what it would be like to be Mrs Victoria Köhler for a moment.

The last name was one she liked with Zander's name, it was a strong name, in her mind, and at the moment, it sounded very weird coupled with her own name. But no matter how weird it might be, Victoria knew that if... when the time came, she would embrace Zander's name as if it had always been her own.

"I look forward to it." Victoria admitted a moment later, not worrying about how giddy that prospect had made her in that moment.

As Zander handed her a rose, Victoria chuckle gently, taking it in her left as she took his hand with her right. Bringing the red petals up to her nose, Victoria breathed in the beautiful aroma of the flower and letting out a soft sigh. "Perfect." The witch breathed, looking up at her boyfriend in that moment. She had meant everything was perfect in that single word, the flower, the dinner, their evening, but most of all, Zander.

"I'm ready for my surprise." Victoria agreed, not knowing if they would be leaving the apartment, or indeed anything of what was coming next. All she knew was that so long as Zander was there, there wouldn't be anything more she needed.
