PostSubject: Obligatory (Jacques & Cara)    Sat Nov 14, 2015 9:07 pm

Caramarienne was nervous.

She was a shaky mess in her dorm room, pacing and fiddling with the ties of her robe. April was warmer, but not nearly enough for her to stop dressing to the sophisticated expectations her family understood she knew of. She pulled the robe ties tighter than looser. She checked the time on the clock. In five minutes, the Hospital Wing would open to visitor's and she would be expected to be there for Jacques, who'd been admitted after the attack. She'd received a letter from the dear Clement's expressing their concern; there was no need to say it, but it was expected that she be there for Jacques.

After all, once the bâtards potins caught wind of the attack, they'd be sniffing all around Hogwarts and Caramarienne would never dream of letting the Clement's see that her own personal dislike for Jacques was to cloud the obligations she had as a Clement ward. She braided her hair and tied it with a green ribbon before grabbing all the items she had her Clement House Elf, Oohlaia, shrink and package for her. It was Jacques' favorite foods and assorted books; some from their actual home and some from his dormitory. She would never dream of going to Jacques' dorms herself. And she didn't even want to bother asking Oohlaia about what she'd picked up for Jacques.

Rather she gave Oohlaia a smile, a pair of new socks as form of payment (and watched with a mixture of disgust and fascination as the House Elf proceeded to life the socks over her ears gleefully). Oohlaia offered her an arm and they apparated to the Hospital Wing. She thanked her lucky stars that Oohlaia was so obedient and willing to do as she pleased, because she wouldn't have made it to the Hospital Wing on time. She smiled at the Healer who opened the doors for her before scanning the room and finding the Clement Heir she so willfully was visiting.

"Good morning," she greeted him her voice silent and her head downcast. "I have a care package for you," she added lifting the carefully wrapped mixture of miscellaneous items and placing them on the bed beside him. She kept her posture perfect, but her head down just the slightest in show of respect for Jacques and awaited his response. She hid her trembling hands in the folds of her robes.

Jacques had, to his own disgust, lost it the previous evening. After running from the Greenhouse, for what was undoubtedly his life, he'd run in to the weird Seer girl that he'd met before. The girl had pulled him to safety with little and less explanation as explosions went off behind them, and Jacques had been terrified. Convinced he was going to be slaughtered.

And then, he'd been dragged from the seemingly safe place that they'd found and man handled all the way to the Forbidden Forest.

As if that was not enough for the Clement heir, he'd then witnessed the one thing he never ever wished to see again. Child Birth.

Or, he'd seen the baby come out from... and then everything had gone black.

Jacques had woken up in the early hours of the morning in the hospital wing, thoroughly confused, but... safe. That had made him relax in the moment, he'd been attended to, and once the nurse had moved off, Jacques rolled on to his side, ignoring the tickling feeling of something wet running down his nose, and the way his breath shook as he gulped in air.

To say he was not okay was an understatement, to be honest.

But, Jacques had woken a few hours later, feeling groggy, but otherwise unharmed. He'd just sat up in bed, sipping at a cup of Pepper Up potion when someone he did not wish to see entered the room. Why in Merlin's name did she insist on continuing the act here. Well, of course, she had to otherwise Jacques would send an owl to his parents detailing his disgust at Caramarienne's actions, but seriously.

Pursing his lips as the Clement ward stood beside him, Jacques took in the package and then the witch who'd brought it. The explanation wasn't one Jacques cared for, instead, he simply raised an eyebrow at the witch.

"Where in Merlin's name were you last night?" Jacques demanded. "You could have been killed!" He added, making sure he got in the questions first, because he did not want Cara asking him anything. "Have you written to father?" Jacques added, wanting to know what information - what inside information - his father already had.

For eleven years, Cara had lived under the sweet tutelage of the Clement’s. They harbored her with care and gentleness, and saw her as one of their own to her utmost happiness. Elenore's was a beautiful flower, a breath of fresh air in comparison to the silent toxicity Jacques filled her with. He never outright went out his way to push her over in the hallways, but it was his eyes. They were always full of a measuring, unnerving kind of analyzing she’d never been subject to from anyone else. Even Louis was a kinder soul to her than Jacques. There was a warmth in his eyes that she saw in Adeline’s and in Elenore's; it made her feel like she belonged. Like she was a bloodline Clement.

Except Jacques was such a benevolent one to remind her that she wasn’t. Remind her that her real family, her real name was Caramarienne Florelle - not Clement.

Cara winced at the demanding tone Jacques’ voice took over the space they were in.

I-I was in the library; th-then someone took me to the R-room of Re-requirement,” she stammered over it due to the tone Jacques had. She was frightened of him, the way an antelope fears a full lion, for if in any moment the lion was hungry the antelope would be subject to the lion’s ferocity, “We-we hid there and-and it was safe. Really safe.” She gulped back her fears and lifted her head again to look him in the eyes.

Father knows what everyone knows. That the Basilisk’s attacked and that you’re alive, as am I.” She answered, she interlocked her hands together, “where were you last night?” She asked in a timid voice.

There was absolutely no denying that Jacques enjoyed making Caramarienne feel small. He enjoyed reminding her that she didn't belong with his family, that she was only a Clement through his mother's friendship to Caramarienne's late parents. It annoyed Jacques, truth be told, because he didn't feel like Caramarienne deserved their name, but that was not a decision he could change.

Not yet, anyway.

"The library?" Jacques scoffed, shaking his head. The school's library was nothing in comparison to the one they had access to at home, which meant Jacques never ever went there. Unless a lesson was being held there, anyway. "You heard the Headmaster, we were supposed to return to our dormitories." Jacques added, his tone flickering with the hidden message that he was going to tell his father later that she'd disobeyed the Headmaster.

But the question back at him. That did not impress Jacques in the slightest.

The truth was also not something he wished to part with, either. "I was looking for you." Jacques explained, seeing as she hadn't been in the Slytherin Common Room, she could not call him out on the lie, after all. "Once I heard the Headmaster, I pushed through the door and hurried through the crowds. Trying to find you. Father would not have let me forget it if you'd been hurt. But, instead I'm here." Jacques explained, his jaw setting for a moment in the frustration he did feel for himself even if the reason was completely different to the well orchestrated lie.

"I don't remember much else. I woke up here." Jacques finalised. It would be impertinent for Cara to question his explanation, and it would be his word against anyone else's now.

"I'll be allowed to leave once the Healer has done her rounds." Jacques summarised. "So, your concern for my health is not needed." He told her sarcastically, because she hadn't bothered to ask how he was.

Caramarienne wasn’t used to being chastised. However growing up she had seen the maids chastising their underlings, she’d seen House-Elves being yelled at and reprimanded for doing something wrong. She’d seen the Head Nannies scream and screech at the underlings, underlings who cried and balled their fists, but never fought back. She could feel their self-loathing and disappointment from forty feet away where she watched them. Frankly speaking she couldn’t stand that sort of humiliation. She never got lectured by any of the Head Nannies like Elenore, she was so well-behaved that if she didn’t take the surname Florelle anyone would believe that she was an actual Clement.

Except, well Jacques.

Jacques made an adamant point to remind her that she was not a real Clement, and just the Ward.

I- I- I didn’t know that,” she whispered in a hurt tone; she could read the message in his tone. Anyone who’d only known Jacques for a year or two wouldn’t be able to read it, but she had known him her whole life.”Ne lui dites pas s'il vice plait*,” (do not tell him please) she murmured clenching her fists tightly as she looked down at his hospital sheets.

She stayed quiet as he explained, feeling herself grow frustrated with herself and annoyed to new lengths. She didn’t want to hear this. She didn’t need any more guilt. Just coming her made her want to cry and run; she wanted to find Joubert, wanted her brother’s comfort. Instead she felt like a four year old who got stealing cookies from the jar.

I’m sorry, Jacques, I’m sorry.” She said, looking up at him and basically pleading him to forgive and forget. It was unlikely that he forget, but she could hope couldn’t she? No matter what happened in any lifetime, Cara wasn’t likely to ever hold the power in hers and Jacques relationship. “Ai oublié, Jacques, it était use erreur honnête. Je oublié d’aller a ma chamber. Vraiment.(I forgot, Jacques, it was an honest mistake. I forgot to go to my room. I really did).

"Pourquoi ne devrais-je lui dire?" (Why shouldn't I tell him?) Jacques retorted without a second thought in that moment. He was juvenile, to say the least, but to him he could not see it. "You disobeyed the headmaster - why shouldn't I report that to father? You could have gotten yourself killed, not that he'd care." The Clement heir replied, though his father's feelings would not have been as he'd said. Louis Clement favoured none of the children above one another, they were each his children and he defended them with the ferocity of any Clement before him. And that included Caramarienne.

But as Cara continued to explain that she hadn't meant to, Jacques shifted himself in to a better position, leaning forward a little to come closer to his family's ward.

"You know this is why you're never going to be a Clement." He told the witch, sneering at how pathetic she was being in that moment. "You're all but snivelling where you sit." He mused, the idea obviously tickling his (morbid) sense of humour in that moment. "You could have been my wife. But you're only ever going to be my play thing. Grow up, Cara. It was only a bunch of idiots." Jacques told her, honestly it was too easy breaking her down.

Reaching for his care package, Jacques forgot about the witch for a while. An assortment of sweets were on top, and just below... Jacques paused as the sight of his not-so-legally-obtained book sat just under the food. There was no way Cara could know... but then... Masking his concerns, Jacques put the box on the other side of the bed, away from Cara, and began chewing on a toffee.

"You can go, I really don't have any use for you." Jacques told her, his eyes not looking away from the toffee in his hand because Cara simply didn't interest him enough to look at her.
