Today was a big day for Jake, why? Because the Headmaster of Hogwarts had asked him to take on the role of leading the Start of Year Feast this year due to him being away. Jake had, of course, agreed wholeheartedly to the whole idea, and why shouldn't he? The school was one he knew well, and he was more than happy to help the Headmaster out.

So the room had been set up in it's full splendour, the professors had all been notified of what they were required to do, and the students would be here soon. Jake wasn't nervous, he had done much more public things in his life, and talking in front of a room filled with people was not going to bother him in the slightest.

In his hand he held the list of first years that they would need to sort with the Sorting Hat and he stood at the front of the room waiting for things to begin. Outside he could make out the sound of the carriages arriving, which would mean very soon all of the students would be arriving. The first years wouldn't be far behind either.

And in his head, he kept running through the words he'd practiced with Marilyn. She'd said he would do well, and he didn't doubt her for a moment. So taking one last breath, Jake waited for the hall to be filled, and then the sorting ceremony could begin.

It was last year in school for Paulina. She is seventh year so that means she will graduate end of this school terms. She will miss the school and friends who she will left behind now but she have decided to graduate with good grades. She will need to figure out what she wants to do with her life too.

She had came to school with train at first and then in carriage. She walked into the great hall and saw there already few people. She sat down into her house table, Ravenclaw table. She greeted these who did sit there already. Then she waited everyone to come. So they could start with that sorting and so on already. She didn't want to eat very much, she just wanted to go back to her dorm. She wanted to sleep she has been up early today and she was sleepy already. She tried to hide her yawns there now.

It was strange not to arrive by train this year but she did wait near the station to join the others, blending in with the crowd seamlessly and taking one of the first carriages back to Hogwarts. She was even looking forward to sharing a room with the other Slytherin girls, despite not getting along with many of them it would still be some company at least. She'd felt utterly lost with no one to talk to over the summer. Oh she talked to the villagers and the shopkeepers in Hogsmead and they were nice enough but all much older than herself.

Another thing she'd like to do is start selling her stock of sweets she'd been making, she'd made so many over the summer she could keep first and second year students pockets filled for the whole year, excluding holidays. She hoped she'd still have enough for everyone and earn a few galleons while doing so. She'd really pushed her range from a few gimmicky sweets to luxury chocolates and even branched out into special dietary requirements, custom ordered of course but she had samples for people to try. She'd leave some flyers and posters around the school and ask the prefects to leave order forms in their common rooms when she got the chance.

The great hall looked the same as always, which didn't make it any less impressive, though she was sure it seemed bigger in her first year. She smiled to herself and slipped into the room with the other students and slid onto a bench at the Slytherin table, near the front so she could see the first years clearly as they were sorted. She had a feeling this was going to be a good year for her.

The summer had been... well, quite amazing for Victoria. The news of her almost immaculate sweep of Outstanding grades had meant her parents had been completely pleased with the whole move to Britain for her schooling. And as the letter had told her, she was the cleverest witch in her year. Victoria could not be happier with that, and even the Exceeds Expectations in Defence Against the Dark Arts had made her feel amazing.

But the biggest shock was the small badge that had fallen from her envelope.

Victoria had figured it would be her prefect badge for the next year, but she had been mistaken. It wasn't the prefect badge that had fallen out, oh no, it was better. The Head Girl badge had fallen in to Victoria's lap and she had been amazed to have such an honour. She hadn't been a prefect, but she'd been trusted with this position. And it seemed she would be trusted with it for two years.

Which meant, of course, Victoria had written straight away to tell Jake and Allegra of the good news. Jake had been delighted, and Allegra was positively bursting with excitement too.

The route to school was seen with Victoria quickly saying hi to her best friend and helping her find them a compartment before she had to rush off to see the other prefects and Head Boy. After a quick meeting that Victoria had absolutely no problem running, she'd sent the prefects off to different carriages, telling them not to patrol but just keep an eye out. She was sure they didn't need to patrol, and she'd been right.

It was a couple more hours until they got to Hogsmeade and Victoria helped everyone of the train and pointed them in the right direction dependant on their year. Nobody had to be told off, and everything was going to plan. When the train was finally empty, Victoria hurried with Allegra to a carriage and they made their way up to the castle in their usual flurry of excitement.

The Great Hall had been decorated much as it had the year before, with the colours looking truly magnificent and people filing in to the right places. At the front of the hall stood her brother, looking calm and collected. Victoria sent him a wave and a smile which he returned as she took her seat at the Hufflepuff table, waiting for the ceremony to begin.

Summer had come and gone with little and less affair. He hadn't received the Head Boy badge, which had confused Josh completely, but he'd decided to let it go. After all, being Head Boy would put a lot of strain on his time and quite frankly, he didn't need some ridiculous title for people to know who he was. Whomever got the position was quite welcome to the stress, the boy thought.

The ride to the school had been slow, but it left Josh to himself. He could read and not worry about people around him, despite the new Head Girl telling them to keep an eye on things. For all Josh knew, and cared, the carriage could be on fire.

But it apparently hadn't been the case when he stepped out of the train and moved towards the carriages. He hadn't helped the younger students, because, quite frankly, if you couldn't follow people to the carriages, or hear people calling out for first years you were simply not worth his time.

The short ride to the school in the carriages had been shared with a very nervous looking Ravenclaw who kept looking at him and then shaking. Josh inwardly found it amusing, but didn't speak to the boy. When they'd finally arrived at the castle, Josh had jumped down from the carriage and swept up the stairs before anyone else. Taking a seat at the top of the Slytherin table opposite a witch he only knew in passing.

Louise... something.

Josh simply waited, quietly and patiently for the feast to start. And the new term of fun to begin.

Finley was insanely excited for going back to Hogwarts. Why? Because he (possibly) had two friends to go back to. First there was Zeke, who he thought was kind of his friend - or at least he didn't hurt Finley, so that was a good sign. And then there was Brooke. Brooke he knew was his friend, so there was going to be many an adventure to be spent with that witch.

However, try as he might, Finley couldn't find either of them on the Hogwarts Express. And after something of a run in with some older students, Finley had hidden in the toilets for the rest of the journey. The smell might not be pleasant, but the solitude made him feel much better.

Almost as soon as the train had stopped moving, Finley had ran to the carriages, and got himself comfy in one. Hoping someone nice would get in with him, Finley was more than a little disappointed when the person who got in was no other than Joshua Murray. Finley was terrified of the older Slytherin, not because he'd done anything, but because Finley had heard a lot of things about Joshua that terrified him.

So he'd sat almost stone still all the way, barely breathing, and stealing glances at the older boy to make sure he wasn't going to get hurt. Nothing happened though, and Finley had to let out a sigh of relief when the carriage finally stopped and Joshua jumped out before him. Finley wasn't too far behind though, and soon he was marvelling at the Great Hall in all it's splendour. Hurrying to the Ravenclaw table, Finley sat down beside an older witch. She yawned just as he sat down and Finley let out a small laugh.

"T-tired already?" He asked with a small, nervous smile in her direction. "T-the fun hasn't s-started yet!"

Paulina was sitting quietly here and tried not to yawn here so much. It wasn't good thing to do at all. But waking up early, around 5am, isn't good idea at all. She did went sleep around 1am. So she have had just four hours sleep. She just did pack her things, clothes so long time. In the train she couldn't sleep, just people who were with her kept talking there and laughing. She yawned once again and trying to hide it.

But one younger boy noticed it still. She looked at him and nodded her head. "Yes I'm tired already. I'm up early already. Just to be in time in train station I need to do it,' she said and yawned again there. She sighed and tried to remember if there is spell what could stop her yawning. Maybe she haven't studied such spell. She can't seem to remember it at all. "Yeah the fun haven't started yet. I hope it starts soon. So I can go back to my room and get few hours sleep," she said there now and smiled a little bit.

"I'm Paulina Dewlish," she decided to say her name there now. It would be good idea to have someone who you know from your house. She knew some already but not all of them. Of course she did yawn there still. "And you are?"

Crista fidgeted a little, lightly picking at them hem of her robes; she always hated wearing them but this was a special event after all. She could remember her own sorting ceremony, her name was near the bottom of the list and she carefully climbed onto the three-legged stool. The hat didn't even fit on her small head, she had to hold it in place so it didn't slip past her eyes. She remembered the whispered words from the hat.

'So, where shall we put you? Eh, a challenge...I haven't had a challenge in a while...Hufflepuff? No...No...While friendly, you are secretive and more introverted....Gryffindor? Brave yes....but you are less noble and cautious....Ravenclaw? Intelligent, and Wise...yes you could fit into the House of the Raven.....but I see you want more of a Challenge? Slytherin? Yes I can see you in Slytherin, resourceful, cunning, ruthless...oh Yes I think Slytherin will fit in just fine....what do you think?.....so we agree then? SLYTHERIN!'

Crista shook herself from her memories and looked out into the empty hall, glancing to her left and right at the seats of the Professors and then to Jake. She sighed a little crossing her arms, then looking back up to the ceiling she loved as a child.

Finley smiled as the witch explained she had to be up early for the train. In fairness, most people did. Though his parents had stayed at a hotel over night because it was, apparently, too far to go in the morning of the train, and Finley didn't mind staying at a hotel over night. It was something of an adventure!

When the witch said she wished it would hurry up and be over with, Finley couldn't agree with her. Last year there hadn't been much time for him to take everything in, what with being a first year and having the nerve racking moment of being sorted. "I'm h-hoping we get s-something fun!" Finley said, looking hopefully towards Professor Newbury. He wondered for a moment what the man had in mind, but he knew they would see soon enough.

"And you are?"

"F-Finley." The boy said with a small smile. "F-Finley Allen." He finished for her. "It's n-nice to meet y-you!"

With her attention mostly on the staff table, taking in the professors they'd be having for the year she'd been trying to guess who'd be teaching what. She was glad to see professor Newbury again. Pulled out of her internal game of guess the subject she saw someone had sat opposite her and turned to greet them, freezing for a moment in surprise. She doubted there was a single person who didn't know Josh Murray, at least by name and face. She'd only seen him around school and didn't really go out of her way to talk to him, truth be told this was the closest she'd ever been to the boy. She smiled anyway, and said a quiet "Hello" before returning her gaze to the staff table, occasionally checking the doors too to see if the first years had started arriving.

She'd been surprised by her own sorting some time ago, she'd done some brief reading up on how the houses worked and figured she'd be placed in one of the other houses. She'd only learned more recently that she was not in fact muggle born, her father had been a pureblood wizard but she had only met him once and that had gone rather disastrously, and she had a stark reminder of it, not that she let that keep her from being her usual self. (Admittedly it did take months of getting used to and another few weeks to be over it.)
