Salem was disowned from his parents at a young age, the moment they found out he was a wizard they sent him off to Hogwarts and by the time he got home from Hogwarts his parents were no where to be found. His best friend that he had made in his first year had asked his parents if he could move in and they took in Salem. They felt bad for him and for the first few weeks he was a total mess but he then got used to the fact that his parents didn't care about him because he was different. He tried reaching out to them when he graduated from Hogwarts but they wanted nothing to do with him.
Salem was in Gryffindor and acted like a true Gryffindor, but when he hit the age of sixteen he became a real ladies man. He didn't want a real relationship because he didn't want to get hurt like his parents had hurt him when he was just a young boy. He refused to become the person he once was. Now Salem goes around sleeping with ladies to fill his lonely void. He'd never admit that he is lonely because he doesn't want the pitch.
Salem even went to school to become a healer that way the ladies would love him ,more, yes an auror would be better considering the way he is built but he doesn't care on that level. The Muggleborn sometimes will, have dreams of the trips he had as a child but would immediately shake it from his head to get the thought to leave. When he was younger he always dreamed of being like his parents but now he doesn't care anymore.

Before he was disowned by his parents, he was close with all of his relatives, his cousins loved him, his aunts and uncles did as well. He isn't sure what lie his parents told to them but he knew that if he ever tried to contact them that hell would soon follow. Salem loved his family and it hurts him everyday that he cannot go anywhere near them because of who he is. Salem's family is all Muggles so he understands why them finding out that he was gifted would definitely be a problem for his family.
