Background
Penny was one of many children the Michelins had. Not that they loved their children any differently. Each was paid attention and given all the love possible. Being the third, Penny was often counted among the older children. When she discovered her magic, her parents weren't as shocked as they might have been had she been the first to do so. As it was, they were still thrilled to have a second magical child and endeavored to learn all they could.
From an early age, Penny was fascinated with clothes and shoes. Insisting on dressing herself as soon as she could walk. Skirts were her favored item of clothing even then, and she never shied from reminding her parents of the fact whenever they attempted to purchase her shorts or trousers.
Her elder sister was convinced she would end up in Slytherin (Millie got into the Snakes, herself), but Penny surprised them all by joining Ravenclaw. She wasn't particularly smart, but she loved Astronomy and Charms, and took to both like a mermaid to water. After graduating, she entered a fashion major at a muggle university and passed with flying colors.
She spent several years interning at various fashion publications before she landed a job as a fashion reporter. From there, she climbed the ranks. Now she runs her own small fashion publication in the Muggle world, but she's looking toward opening one in the Magical community as well.

Family Background
Anita met Arthur while vacationing in Greece. They hit it off splendidly and discovered that they lived mere minutes away back home. Anita was a small-time children's author, and Arthur managed a coffee shop with his long-time best friend. The pair dated for well over a year before Arthur finally proposed (he decorated the coffee shop like Greece and made the whole thing as close to their first meeting as possible).
Barely four months into their marriage, Anita discovered her first pregnancy. Thrilled beyond belief, they prepared with gusto. Millicent Michelin arrived one stormy, summer evening. She discovered her magic at the young age of six (and a half, she insists) and proceeded to use that power to abuse her siblings like the eldest sibling she was.
Ben arrived barely a year later (11.5 months, to be more precise) and proceeded to be the most mellow child the Michelins would possess. However, Ben never discovered his magic and the parents were a little relieved. He never held it against the ones who did have magic, and was incredibly proud of what they'd all achieved.
Penny came just shy of three years later and proceeded to be absolutely fascinated with clothes. She clung to her mother for most of her infancy, and refused the care of others for the first 18 months of her life.
Katherine came two years later and became the quietest child to ever exist. She rarely spoke except to utter in the affirmative or negative (or giggle, she giggled quite a bit, actually). So when her magic emerged, it was in the quietest way possible. Lights. Switching them on and off depending on her mood.
Adelina arrived with an earsplitting scream, and never stopped. She was quite possibly the most sensitive of all the children and clung to their father with steadfast determination. Her magic happened with a literal bang, a drastic contrast to her older sister's magical emergence. All the balloons at her sixth birthday party exploded when she discovered that she hadn't gotten a puppy.
Then came Harriet and Filipa. Anita and Arthur were just about done, at that point. But twins surprised them, and they desperately wished for non-magical ones. They were greatly relieved when the twins reached their eighth year without any magical happenings. The pair were inseparable, and were hardly spoken of as separate entities. They were Harry an Pipa. More co-dependent twins could not be found.
Lastly (but
certainly not least) was Janet. The Happy Accident. Both parents were about ready to throw in the towel at that point, until they discovered this last little miracle. Janet was fairly outspoken, but she understood the value of silence. She is often referred to as the most sane of the bunch.
