Kiranjeet Kour Sahu (NPC) Original

Kiranjeet Kour Sahu (NPC) Rsz_ge10
Full Name: Kiranjeet Kour Sahu
Age: 21
Date of birth: 5 April 2005
Birthplace: Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia
Current home:
Blood Status: Halfblood
Sexual Alignment: Heterosexual
Wand type: 8.5 inches, Abath tail hair, kapur wood, supple

Kiranjeet Kour Sahu (NPC) Rsz_ap10
Hair colour and style: Raven black hair that falls in gentle waves just past the witch's shoulder blades. Usually, Kiranjeet likes to have her hair flowing down freely over her shoulders, with little and less fuss being made to them. However, when training, her locks are pulled up in to a ponytail to keep them up out of the way. When in full games of Quidditch, it is pulled up in to a tight bun to ensure it causes no distraction. The witch has been known to try more complicated styles in her free time, but she is not the most capable with a hairbrush and hair products, so this is only when the time really needs it.
Eye colour: Hazel brown
Height: 5'5"
Body type: Athletic -- Kiranjeet is a health and fitness freak. Her body definitely shows that much, too, and the witch benefits from the flattest of stomachs possible, and very toned legs. The only pro, she claims, to having given up all fatty and sugar filled foods (except on special occasions) for her career.
Dress sense: Kiranjeet's dressing depends on where she is, and who she is with. The witch much prefers to sport a pair of jeans and a t-shirt than dresses. That being said, Kiran really enjoys wearing traditional desi clothes at family/local events and getting swept up in her culture. Getting the right balance is never easy, though, so the witch does have quite an extensive wardrobe that follows her around -- but only because of her celebrity status, not personal choice.
Birthmarks: A small, wobbly-edged, oval upon her right hip.
Tattoos: None.
Scars: Considering the job the witch has taken on, Kiranjeet doesn't have any vastly distinguished scars upon her body. There are a few, minor scars on/around her knees from scuffing them up too frequently, but they're barely noticeable.
Piercings: Ears and navel.

Kiranjeet Kour Sahu (NPC) Rsz_pe10

Likes:
  - Quidditch -- why else would she have given up so many beautiful dishes to go professional?
  - Food. You can't hail from Malaysia without having a good appreciation for food, and Kiran definitely didn't miss out on this!
  - International travel, it comes with her job, and the witch loves to explore any country she finds herself in.
  - Being a celebrity can be quite a chore for many people, but Kiranjeet thrives in the limelight. She doesn't play up for the cameras, but no matter when or where, the witch bodes well in the cameras that follow her, and enjoys the attention that comes with them.
  - Different cultures. The Malaysian way of life is one that is rich in diversity, Kiranjeet loves this about her home nation, and has found herself wanting to know more about the cultures she comes across on her travels. Sometimes, though, she finds herself disappointed in the lack of culture she finds, especially the further West she travels from her home.
  - Children. Coming from a very large family, Kiranjeet found early on just how much she loved children. They're so pure, and amazing fun to be around, she plans to have her own in time, but right now that has taken a bit of a backseat due to her career, something her family are not completely enthusiastic about.

Dislikes:
  - Early mornings.
  - Cold weather -- having grown up in one of the hottest countries in the world, going to any country that is less than 20 degrees at any point makes Kiranjeet's mood a little grumpier than usual. It's not always noticeable, but it is present.
  - Sitting still for too long -- Kiranjeet is an active person, so being cooped up, or not doing something drives her up the wall.
 - Being away from her family for too long.

Strengths:
  - Multi-lingual -- Kiranjeet can speak Malay, Punjabi, and English confidently having been brought up to speak all of them interchangeably. Unfortunately, when you leave Malaysia, you often find yourself speaking in a mixture of languages (a common occurrence in her home country) and losing people mid-sentence without realising. The witch also has a very crass understanding of Mandarin, but can't speak it to save her life.
  - Despite the stereotype that comes with being an athlete, Kiran is quite the nerd, really. Having finished her schooling in and amongst the top students in the year, many people often believe her to not have done well because she went on to become a sporting icon. But, when you start to talk to the witch, it would be quite clear to see she is very educated, and opinionated to boot.
  - Kind -- Kiran has a heart of gold and everyone around her is treated with the same warmth. It is not a false precedent that she sets to look good for the cameras, but part of her personality that she simply cannot hide. Especially in the presence of children.

Weaknesses:
  - Food, especially of the sweet kind. Kiranjeet's diet is, of course, quite tightly managed due to her athletic career, which means she can't indulge as much as she would like to, and sometimes, this is quite a difficult part of her chosen career to stick too.
  - Despite all of her best efforts, Kiran never completely grasped the knowledge of being very girly. She does dress up for special events, but much rather prefers pulling on jeans and a t-shirt. Always much more of a tomboy, her maa (mother) has been found to be exasperated by this, and worries that no man would ever want to marry her eldest daughter, but Kiran doesn't see why she should conform to what everyone else deems 'normal'.
  - Competitive to a fault.

Positive traits:
  - Ambitious -- you don't get where Kiranjeet is without wanting the world, and the witch will not give up on her ambitions for anything.
  - Opinionated -- having always been headstrong, it comes as no surprise that Kiranjeet has her own opinions, and will share them. Not in a forceful way, but the witch will always have her own opinion on any given matter.
  - Loyal.

Negative traits:
  - Proud.
  - Headstrong -- her dadi would always point this trait to have come from her maa's side. But when Kiran wants something, she always goes for it.
  - In her dadi's opinion, not being married is a very negative trait.

Kiranjeet Kour Sahu (NPC) Rsz_ba10
Kiranjeet was born as the oldest child to Baldbinder and Roushni a year in to their marriage. The couple were over the moon with her arrival, taking every opportunity to enjoy the small moments of her first couple of years without any distraction. Kiranjeet was spoiled during these two years, having the sole attention of both of her parents, but wasn't without her own interactions with her numerous cousins throughout the city and Malaysia as a whole.

At two and a half, though, Kiranjeet was told she was going to have a sibling. Having never made a distinction between her cousins and her own family, the concept had been a little bit confusing for the small child, but she hadn't thought much more on it. When Heeral had arrived, Kiranjeet had been quite curious about the baby that had come to live with them. When was the baby going to go with one of her aunts? Or dadi? The baby stayed, though, and eventually Kiranjeet understood that the baby was not going, which brought with it a new found responsibility of being an older sibling. It was a weird concept, truthfully, and one that took Kiranjeet time to adjust to. Time that brought forth the arrival of another child, Mal.

The arrival of a boy had brought a lot of excitement to the home, making Kiranjeet dislike him to start with. He got a lot of fuss, and that didn't seem to be fair. After time, though, either Kiranjeet stopped noticing this, or her brother's attention from the elders seemed to fade slightly. Whatever the case, the child grew with the love of her parents, grandparents, siblings and extended family in Malaysia like any child would.

It was at the age of seven that Kiranjeet's first bought of magic was shown, quite unfortunately in the centre of a crowded street market in KL when she was with her dadi and Mal. Mal had been treated to a full bag of laddoos, whilst she had been told that she wasn't allowed any because she'd not stayed close enough to her dadi whilst they were in the colourful material shop. Kiranjeet had been too curious for her own good, and had left her dadi's eye line, worried her deeply, and been found wrapped in much too much pink materials that had been chosen for another lady's dress for an event Kiranjeet couldn't pronounce. All she knew was that she was in trouble.

But that didn't mean Mal could get all the sweeties and not her!

So the witch, in her frustration, had levitated the bag from Mal's hands without realising, and it had zoomed at her, after hitting a couple of Muggles -- which really did spook them -- and resulted in her being in even more trouble than before. Or, at least, that was what her abba had tried to be whilst he told her that she couldn't just do these things in public. Kiranjeet hadn't really understood, but the really tall man that wasn't her family that looked rather scary had done enough to explain to the young witch that she really shouldn't do that too much.

And she tried.

A bit.

But magic was a hard thing to control, and often got her in trouble.

At the age of eleven Kiranjeet was offered her place at the Malaysian Institute for Magic. It was a rather small school, barely known internationally, but it was good fun! There, Kiranjeet learned to control her magic, harness it, and actually developed a rather good talent with magic. Her studies were kept to their usual high standard, but the young witch found her passion not in the classes, but with the sports that were available in the magical world. Quidditch being her favourite. Of course, being a girl who liked sports was never going to be an easy feat, the boys gave her a hard time much too often about her love for the sport in her first and second year, but it was in her third year that the venomous spirit of Kiranjeet Kour Sahu was truly founded.

Salman Khan was a prick, Kiranjeet would always have said so, but that day in late December had just proved it as he stole her broom from her and denoted that no woman should be playing Quidditch. No woman with self-respect, no respect for her family, would ever partake in the game meant for boys. Salman was an idiot, though, and left himself way too open. It had taken Kiranjeet no fewer than five seconds to catch the Beater's Bat that had hurtled from the shed, and smack the boy clean in the jaw with the wooden instrument. The group that had formed to bully her out of playing took a collective step back in that moment, Salman scrabbling up from the floor, holding his mouth with a look of bewilderment on his features.

"Only men who have no self-respect question a woman's self-worth." Kiranjeet had spat, raising the bat again. Salman had not stayed put long enough for her to move closer, instead turning on his heel and sprinting towards the school building. Professor Darma had not been impressed, and the howler that had come from dadi had proved even more frightful.

Kiranjeet didn't really learn, though...

From there, the witch was in and out of trouble -- though never of her own making -- when it came to her extra-curricular life. School came and went in a flurry of excellent grades, and a reputation for not always toeing the line as 'all good girls should'. Kiranjeet had been happy, though, and when her SPM+M (the Malaysian equivalent of N.E.W.T.S.) results were released, she had made her parents proud.

Until she had told them her desire to pursue her Quidditch career, the letter from Selangor Quidditch Team, inviting her to join their squad. Neither one of her parents had been too keen, and her grandparents had been ready to forbid it. It was only when the agent had arrived two weeks after the original letter, and reassured them all that she wouldn't be pressured to change with the men on the team, or be pushed in to anything she felt uncomfortable with that they had considered it. Which had given Kiranjeet just enough time to accept the offer before they could say anything more.

The contract had been signed, and Kiranjeet was playing for the club the same week, thrilled to bits with her new found role in life. The club was towards the lower half of the table in the Malaysian Quidditch League when she'd started, and it had taken a while for her to find her place, but with hard work, determination, and perhaps a little bit of flirting with the men's egos to make them think they were better than they were the team had moved up to the middle of the table, finishing in one of the highest positions they'd ever achieved in over ten years. Kiranjeet had been ecstatic with that much, fully pledging herself to another season with the team without a second thought.

The second season had been good, following on from the previous successes. The team had pushed in to the top ten teams in the country! It was towards the end of that season that Kiranjeet had been nominated to play for the under 21's Malaysian National Team -- a feat her whole family had been proud of, especially as it was only a year before the world cup!

The international debut had been a terrifying night for Kiran, their opposition of the Australian National Team had been a fierce one. There was no room for error, truthfully, and as their team went ten goals down in less than half an hour, it looked to be a one sided affair. Her team had started to battle back, though, clawing back one goal, and then a second. But Australia had continued their offensive anew at that point, and Kiranjeet had opted to do something daring. Pretending to have seen the Snitch, the witch had played with luck that evening as she chased nothing. The Aussie seeker had followed, much too close, and much too unaware that the snitch had not been there. Kiranjeet had given the signal to the Beaters at that point, and after pulling in to the Wronski Feint, two Bludgers hurtled at the Australian Seeker as he tried to pull up out of the deep nose dive. He'd taken them both to the face, and had been knocked unconscious by the brutal -- yet legal -- team play.

It had left Kiranjeet free to pursue the Snitch unopposed.

The celebrations had been heard all around KL that night, and Kiranjeet's face had been the highlight of the sports section the next day, denoting her as the next greatest athlete to come to the international stage. The witch hadn't believed that statement at the time...

But not nine months later, Kiranjeet Kour Sahu would be lifting the Quidditch World Cup with the rest of her Malaysian teammates. They would be champions of the world.

And Jacques Clement, the French heir, would walk in to her life, and change it forever...

Both Nirmala and Dhar were born in a pre-independent Malaysia to Punjabi foot soldiers in the Queen's army. Given that all Sikh soldiers and their families lived in the same locality, the two knew each other well growing up, and continued to get to know each other better when they were arranged to be married at the ages of 14 and 19 respectively.

While many of the Sikh families that had lived with them had to leave along with the British in 1957, Nirmala and Dhar were lucky on several counts. Dhar's father had won the good graces of a Lord, landing himself in the police force which his son would also follow into and Nirmala's mother had remarried a Tamil politician after her first husband's death, securing her family's stay in the country. Once Nirmala and Dhar were married, they began the honourous yet happy process of having children of their own.

Together, the couple had seven offsprings, five boys and two girls. All their children grew up to be respectful, educated, obedient and contributing members of society. All except Balbinder who - for a brief stint - went through a rebellious phase when he met and married that Sikka girl without parental permission. Initially, Nirmala was against a working witch as a daughter in law but now, even she has to admit that Roushni isn't the worst choice for wife and mother.

That being said, Roushni lets her own daughters Kiran and Heeral get away with far more than Nirmala is comfortable condoning. Today, the two grandparents divide their time between their retirement home in Setapak near the temple and their childrens' homes all across Malaysia.

While the whole Sahu clan is proud of Kiranjeet's career, they are also very much looking forwards to when the girl will finally settle down. Rumors of her relationship with the French heir are received both with pride and hesitance as the relief of Kiranjeet finally showing romantic interest in a man is clouded somewhat by the fact that modern "dating" is still very much frowned upon in the largely conservative family.
