Concrete Jungle - Part 2 (Kevin and the Clement Girl) Kj-apa_the-hate-u-give-recast

Despite having made it out to be an extremely casual event to Tuesday, the young man currently exiting his home had not actually been to a college party in too many years to believe. By the time he had finally gotten around to taking his first steps in tertiary education, he had been all partied out and viewed such events with a morbid disinterest. A burst of emotion here, a spark of inspiration there but that was really it. He had often felt he was experiencing life through others in those days, and had been fine with it until he'd met a certain someone.

But now that feeling was long gone, and he had to keep reminding himself this was not a fresh start. He wasn't here to party and make friends, he was here to pursue his education - even if not as astutely as some people. Still, the temptation to go to the freshmen mixer was... annoyingly present. And the man was a great believer in life living him as opposed to the other way around.

Besides, despite all odds, Tuesday might still be there. As much as he hoped she wasn't. It was the mere possibility of running into the kid that had made him roll out of bed and out his home, nodding to the doorman who greeted him with a silent nod. He hadn't really bothered dressing up, these occasions did not call for such. He had however opted to take on a sports coat over his Rick and Morty T Shirt displaying a comical image of a cartoon eating a banana while another cartoon watched with envy. His faded grey jeans spoke of both wear and a touch of the scissors around the ankle and knee while a newly shrugged off cap left his auburn locks in an interesting level of disarray.

The scene was just as he'd anticipated. One of the converted barns turned recital rooms had been utilized for the party and any chaperones the school may have assigned to the gathering were either gone, drunk or high. The room could have safely accommodated fifty, seventy five if everyone only stood one foot away from each other but the number in the room had probably exceeded past a hundred and twenty now, with people still coming in.

If there had been a dance floor before his arrival, Kevin Harrington did not see one now. With so many bodies so closely packed together, it was hard to tell if the room had been divided into any sections or order. There must be a food and drinks table somewhere, he assumed purely from the red and white cups being passed around. What was on the menu though, the man couldn't say. Amidst the stench of alcohol, perfume, sweat and someone's vomit, no food related aroma reached his senses.

Thankfully, there was no sign of Mulberry as far as the eye could see, and thankfully, Kevin's height allowed him to see more than most. He had gotten out of his bed for nothing.

It was a good thing really, he supposed, trying to figure out which way to lean so the natural momentum of bodies pushing against each other in the crowded space would direct him towards the exit with minimal effort on his part. Maybe he would take a walk now that he was out. New York could be beautiful when studied with the right eye, and rumors of a yellow moon were abuzz in the astronomy circle. Checking his pocket to make sure he had his phone, the man leaned right, feeling the jostling begin.

Concrete Jungle - Part 2 (Kevin and the Clement Girl) Empty
PostSubject: Re: Concrete Jungle - Part 2 (Kevin and the Clement Girl)   Concrete Jungle - Part 2 (Kevin and the Clement Girl) EmptyMon Jun 28, 2021 7:13 pm

After leaving Kevin behind at the cafeteria, Elenore's hunger had not dissipated. Thankfully the witch had found a vending machine of foods on her travels and after a couple of trial runs, Elenore had managed to obtain herself a packet of biscuits to keep her going for the rest of the day. Honestly, sorting your own lunch was not going to be something the witch would be partaking in the next day, she'd decided on her brief interlude to the library for the remainder of the lunch hour.

The remainder of the day had been as equally unfulfilling as the morning session, but at least now Elenore knew her way around the campus, and which people she was not going to be able to get along with for the duration of this course. Their lessons would start the following week, though, so for the remainder of the week, they were free to do... whatever they wanted. Over the next couple of days all of the various clubs would be on display with their stalls, they'd been told, and Elenore heard a number of the girls talking excitedly about joining the sorority -- which apparently was off limits at Julliard -- as soon as they could.

Interested in knowing what that was, Elenore had pretended to be reading the notice board whilst the girls explained it was like having a good band of sisters whilst here in New York. People to look out for you, and people you could spend your time with. Though, there was something about getting in via a test, or something, but Elenore hadn't quite caught that bit because the girls had moved away in the opposite direction to the one Elenore needed to go.

Throughout the afternoon, though, Elenore's mind had wandered back to the choice of evening activity  Kevin had been speaking of. The way he'd dismissed her ability to dance without a second thought had annoyed the Clement witch more than she could possibly explain, and each hallway held the stark reminder of the mixer that was going on that evening. Elenore had tried her very best to ignore the posters, and Kevin's jibe, of course she had, but the idea she could not dance was one she could not allow to continue on for long.

That had been precisely the reason why Elenore had arrived back at her apartment promptly that evening, instructing all of the staff of her changed plans the moment she'd arrived. Dinner was served earlier than usual, and a bath had been drawn for the witch ready for when she'd finished. Fresh clothes suitable for dancing had been laid out for Elenore when she'd emerged, and her Lady's Maid had moved promptly to put the younger witch's hair up in to a relaxed chignon that kept the long brown locks away from the witch's face. As always, the subtlest hint of makeup touched the witch's features, perfecting her features as she watched the progress in the mirror.

Elenore's dress had been carefully chosen as always, a pair of matching topaz earrings had been added to the outfit, together with a small bracelet that swapped between diamonds and topaz with ease. By the time the outfit had come together, the smile on Elenore's lips sat naturally as she took herself in in the mirror, feeling like she was ready to head in to the middle of the dance floor with her dance partner and show the world how to dance. As she always did at the dances at home, tonight would be a breeze, so long as she could find the right partner to dance with.

As Elenore stood from her dressing table, there was a hesitation from beside her, and Elenore looked to her Lady's maid with curiosity before the envelope appeared from almost no where. "More correspondence from your brother," the witch explained, not offering the envelope because even though it might not be hers, both witch's knew that Elenore would not accept the letter.

"Leave it with the others." Elenore dismissed the notion, picking up the clutch she'd been provided with and heading out towards the entrance hall. On her way, the witch gave instructions of how she expected to be back before midnight, and that everything should be prepared for her as normal. With the staff in check, Elenore had moved off to the party, feeling somewhat nervous as her car drove across town now that the light was starting to recede.

What if nobody she knew was there?

What if Kevin wasn't there for her to prove him wrong?

There were a lot of questions going around the witch's head as she crossed back to the university, but as she stepped out of the car and moved towards the location stated on the posters, she found herself growing with excitement. Anticipation, even.

The excitement seemed to implode on itself as she grew closer, realising just how many people were here and how... differently... they all dressed. Her own attire was not the problem, Elenore knew as she waited to be allowed inside. No, everyone had their own style, she had hers. Except... everyone seemed to look at hers. As always, the smells of New York were what hit you first. The smell of alcohol was prominent the moment you stepped inside the building, almost putrid in it's stale manner that hung in the room. Then, rather disgustingly after that, came the smell of people who were much too unaccustomed to personal hygiene routines. The witch did her best not to look disturbed by this notion, but then, when the last smell, the smell that came from overindulgence touched her nose, Elenore couldn't help but bring her hand up momentarily to hide her repulsion at the smell but also to catch a small comforting inhale of her own perfume to try to eliminate the sense.

"Come on, move along! Don't have all night!"

Elenore's body was unashamedly moved to the side. Not with a push, no, but the very unnerving feel of men's hands on her waist, physically moving her from one spot to another before the man in question moved on with a number of friends in tow. Each one took their opportunity to take her shocked features on board, before offering her a leering smile in return for their actions. Wrapping one arm around her waist in an effort to deter such behaviour in future, Elenore carefully proceeded in to the crowd, trying to catch a glimpse of Kevin in the crowd.

All around, though, people were pushing closer and closer together, barely allowing one another to move as the music blared from an unknown place in the building, and more and more people seemed to have the red and white plastic cups filled with liquids of various colours that sloshed around freely...

"Hey, drinks are that way, don't just stand there looking pretty!"

The voice came and went with the sea of faces all around, but the hand pointing in the direction of what Elenore assumed to be the drinks table was one she followed, trying to make sense of everything. Nobody here was dancing... they were... Elenore couldn't have explained it in words even if she tried as she caught sight of some of the most... no, the witch couldn't even decide how to put that in to a single word as she tried not to look too long at each pair, trio, or group of bodies that were moving in an almost primal manner.

"My point being, it's not you. It's America. It's not safe there, Elenore."

Jacques was wrong.

She had to believe he was wrong.

The drinks table came in to view, and Elenore looked over it with apprehension. There were no bottles of wine that she recognised. There was no Champagne at all, and all of the other liquids were of such different colourings, she wasn't sure what they were for even a moment. The dithering on her behalf led to more jostling, before Elenore found herself towards the end of the table, still not sure what she was drinking as she picked up a blue concoction and held it carefully in her left hand without sipping it. Someone she knew just had to be here... didn't they?

Concrete Jungle - Part 2 (Kevin and the Clement Girl) Empty
PostSubject: Re: Concrete Jungle - Part 2 (Kevin and the Clement Girl)   Concrete Jungle - Part 2 (Kevin and the Clement Girl) EmptyMon Jun 28, 2021 7:13 pm

When he'd happened across Tuesday earlier, the redhead was sure she was easy enough to spot in a crowd. The Harrington had not imagined this kind of crowd when he'd made such assumptions though. his easy life and status afforded him a privilege that few could afford - part of it being giving places with these kind of decor a wide berth. Which wasn't to say the man hadn't done his share of the Rubbus Groinium in his day, but now he knew what came after. More than half these people would wake up with either no memory of the night before or wishing they had no memory of the night before.

It was a good thing Tuesday had skipped out, he figured as he headed towards the door, letting bits of conversation wash over him as he dreamed of the yellow moon that would soon be in his sight.

"I swear, she's a cunt, demands blood sacrifice if your assignment's in late."

"Come one, baby, you can do better."

"Fifty dollars on that French Prude."

And just that like, the moon melted away, as did his plans for the remainder of the day. Still, the man was not one to lose hope. there could be another French Prude here, someone who looked remarkable like the girl about a dozen bodies away being manhandled by a boy who had been part of their cookie circle. Yes, there could totally be another girl who had her freaking hair up with earrings glinting in her ears, stupid enough to show up at a dance party she had been told was not for her.

Sighing, Kevin angled his body away from the door, accidentally feeling up a tiny blonde who had been caught unaware. No that she was complaining though, a mischievous glint in her eye and a suggested squeeze of his hip made the blonde's intentions very clear. Darn it all to hell! Tuesday owed him big time.

Leaning down towards the blonde, Kevin whispered a husky apology before reaching for her and lifting her clear off the floor, turning himself and setting her down where he once stood. From there, the man made his way towards the drinks table, trying to catch a glimpse of the only actual hairstyle in the room. the girl was short but her presence was anything but diminished. Even here, in the throng of bodies, her discomfort stood out like a giant homing beacon, drawing his to her.

The way the bodies moved, he would never get to her in time. Because the whole group was perpetually in motion, neither could get close to the other unless it was a single, unified effort. And he had a feeling Tuesday wasn't very good at those. So Kevin did the only thing he could think of. The man dropped down, letting the crowd swallow him as he stumbled on his lanky limbs, heading towards the drink table and the shelter of the large white (with multi colored stains) table cloth that covered it.

Turned out he wasn't the only one who had had the bright idea to hide under the table cloth. A few feet away from him, two young ladies were engaged in the kind of make out session a man only dreamed of. Neither noticed his presence, the Asian one busy removing the ginger's bra. Taring his eyes away from the pair was.... difficult but somehow Kevin managed, instead focusing on the many ankles that passed him by.

Until he finally saw the heels. No one else would wear heels like those. Reaching out a hand and steeling himself for an attack, Kevin grabbed on to Tuesday's ankle, hopefully managing to get her attention before she started screaming for help.

Concrete Jungle - Part 2 (Kevin and the Clement Girl) Empty
PostSubject: Re: Concrete Jungle - Part 2 (Kevin and the Clement Girl)   Concrete Jungle - Part 2 (Kevin and the Clement Girl) EmptyMon Jun 28, 2021 7:14 pm

The crowd was getting tighter and tighter as the moments passed, the smell of alcohol and far too many people being pushed together growing with each moment that passed. Elenore's eyes moved one way then another, trying to find someone she knew, someone she could talk to, and continuously falling short. Instead her eyes fell upon scenes that she had never been subjected to before this evening that once again reminded her that this had been the worst idea she'd had since arriving in New York.

And yet, even with this knowledge, the French witch refused to make her way back towards the door, to give in, because that would mean that Kevin would have won. He would have been right, and Elenore refused to give that much to the man.

That did not mean that staying put was easy, though. Being jostled from side to side was far worse than unpleasant, the rudeness of all of those around her was just ebbing away at Elenore's resolve to stay. Her drink had been knocked back and forth no matter how close she held it to herself, but the witch was not going to give in to it. Even if the 'music' would drive her mad with it's horribly loud beat, and out of key singing, Elenore would not give in.

A couple of other men had been passed, looked at her in a manner that made her skin crawl before turning away with smirks upon their lips to talk to their friends who kept peering over. One or two had made the suggestion that they dance, but Elenore had shook her head, mouthing a soft apology that would never be heard above the music, and they had just made a disgusted look and been on their way. The language of this place was foreign to the witch, she did not understand for even a single moment as to what was going on in this building, but apparently... apparently all of this was normal.

The thought was sickening, even without touching the 'alcohol' Elenore had picked up, but the feeling of needing to be sick only grew as something caught around her ankle, making Elenore's terror of the situation grow as she instinctively tried to move her foot out of whatever it was holding on to her, the rest of her body catching up a moment later as it looked down to find what was holding on to her-

"Kevin?" Elenore asked, highly confused in that moment, but she doubted he would hear her above all the noise. Not that that doubt registered quickly enough for Elenore to realise as she continued on. "What are you doing?" She asked, only to get a confused look back from Kevin before he motioned for her to come down to his level.

Shaking her head vehemently at the idea of getting down on the floor in this disgusting place, Elenore tried once more to get free from Kevin's hold, only for the man to hold on still and then repeat the action of her needing to come down to his level. Frowning, Elenore shook her head once more, and once more Kevin repeated the action. Looking around the scene, Elenore deliberated for a moment, noting Kevin repeating the action with more enthusiasm, before she conceded to his wishes. Ensuring her dress was tucked neatly around her, the witch ducked down beside the table, only for Kevin to motion for her to move under.

"What are you doing?" The witch asked once she'd followed his instructions, though her eyes caught the movement behind the man, two other girls were... the witch's cheeks were aflame as her eyes moved away, not able to meet Kevin's eyes in that moment because she'd seen more than she was willing to admit to in that moment.

How could anyone in their right mind think this was normal?

PostSubject: Re: Concrete Jungle - Part 2 (Kevin and the Clement Girl)   Concrete Jungle - Part 2 (Kevin and the Clement Girl) EmptyMon Jun 28, 2021 7:14 pm

It took her longer to catch on than her intellect would suggest. But then again, Kevin didn't actually know she was intelligent, only that she liked reading her course material in advance. Still eventually the witch caught on and slid into what was possibly the most graceful tumble ever, inserting herself underneath the table cloth as if she was sliding into the back of a limousine.

It wasn't an act, the man finally realized. She really and truly was out of her depth here.

"What are you doing?"

"Oh you know," he replied as casually as he could, adjusting himself to give her more space, inadvertently giving her a much better view of the happy couple to his other side. "My carriage turned into a Zucchini and my glass slippers got sold in Chinatown so I figured I'd check out the life down under." The redhead let out a good natured laugh, though nowhere near good enough to disguise the moan of the redheaded female now coiled around her "friend".

"So Tuesday, all those dance lessons coming in handy? Have you met the prince yet?" the tone was teasing but his eyes were serious. Why had she come here in the first place, she clearly didn't know what to do with herself. And now, Kevin had no idea what to do with her either. Briefly, an errant thought inspired by the lust filled tableau announced itself but it was gone the next moment as he looked at her.

"Really Tuesday, I thought you had more sense than this. What are you doing here?" His green eyes bore into hers, as if asking for more than the superficial question. This wasn't her place so why was she here?

Concrete Jungle - Part 2 (Kevin and the Clement Girl) Empty
PostSubject: Re: Concrete Jungle - Part 2 (Kevin and the Clement Girl)   Concrete Jungle - Part 2 (Kevin and the Clement Girl) EmptyMon Jun 28, 2021 7:14 pm

The joke from Kevin might have brought a laugh from Elenore in any other situation, but the witch was both highly disgusted with the activities of the girls behind Kevin that could be seen from the corner of her eye no matter where she looked in that moment, and completely out of her depth to the point the witch felt like she needed to run more than ever before. But she couldn't, the throng of people between here and the door were not going to make such things easy for Elenore, and the witch was at the point where she didn't have the energy to fight her way through.

"So Tuesday, all those dance lessons coming in handy? Have you met the prince yet?"

The teasing tone had a harsh edge to it, Elenore knew without looking that Kevin's eyes would have gone hard in that moment. A tickle behind her eyes made the witch blink profusely for a couple of moments, pushing away the feeling of helplessness, foolishness that had brought her to this moment. It was his fault, though, Elenore reminded herself. Kevin and his silly jibes about her dancing had brought her here, and now... now she wasn't sure what was going to happen.

No reply came, though, the witch's head working to try and find an answer to how to get herself out of this situation without a million and one questions being asked. Why had she ducked beneath the table with a man she didn't really know? What would happen if she emerged from the table with Kevin in tow? How was she going to get out of the party and alert her driver to the fact she wished to go home now rather than the agreed time they'd discussed earlier? Could she walk back to her apartment from here? Would it be safe? She doubted it, but perhaps she might be wrong?

"Really Tuesday, I thought you had more sense than this. What are you doing here?"

The unfaltering stare of Kevin's bore through Elenore, shaking her to the core as she looked back at him before she softly shook her head, looking more and more like the lost young witch that she was in that moment because it was clear that Elenore Lissette Clement did not know what she was doing, acting on impulses that had no right to be her own. The fear of being so far away from home, in a world she did not understand in the slightest showed in that moment, the pretence she had built up around herself crumbling in to nothing.

Kevin's image blurred intermittently as the tears threatened to fall, and then were pushed away, but still no answer came. A lady did not cry, the steadfast resilience of a lady was always necessary in these matters.

"I need to go home," Elenore managed, much more softly than before as she admitted that much to herself. Kevin would, of course, misconstrue that notion to mean her apartment here in New York, he wouldn't understand more than that, and Elenore didn't expect him to, but it was the truth. She did need to go home, but her pride...

Tears pushed forth once more, but Elenore wiped angrily at her eyes, not allowing any of the droplets to make their journey down her cheeks.

"Please, get me out of here."

Concrete Jungle - Part 2 (Kevin and the Clement Girl) Empty
PostSubject: Re: Concrete Jungle - Part 2 (Kevin and the Clement Girl)   Concrete Jungle - Part 2 (Kevin and the Clement Girl) EmptyMon Jun 28, 2021 7:14 pm

And in under a minute, he had made her cry. The feeling of unease that welled up in the wizard was no surprise. Despite his mannerisms, Kevin had never intended to hurt anyone. But some lessons were hard learned and always remembered. Before he could say or do anything to address her tears, the soft plea escaped her lips, making him feel more of a jerk than he already was.

The man may have meant a lot of things, but he had not intended to make Elenore Clement cry.

It was difficult moving around under the table, especially more so given his unusually long limbs. In the end, shrugging out of his coat was not easy and it warranted putting a foot out from underneath the table, inevitably catching someone and tripping them over. Thankfully whoever it was, was too drunk to notice and his jacket was now safely off.

"I can get you home," he whispered tentatively. "But you have to do as I say okay? I promise, we'll get out of here soon." The girl might have had some difficulty hearing though as the female behind Kevin had reached her climax, in more ways than one. The pure howls of ecstasy escaping the young student were not entirely swallowed by her partner's attempts to glue their lips and tongues together.

"Here," he added, leaning closer so she could hear him over the background orgasms. "Put one hand through my jacket, I'll put mine through the other, that way we can move without being separated alright?" He made sure she nodded her understanding before he moved to slip his coat onto hers, moving closer to her to fit his own shoulder through the garment.

"We get out on three okay," he cautioned, one hand now securely around her waist as they shared the same coat. Thank Merlin the garment was large and Tuesday remarkably slender. or this would never have worked. "One, two... three." Together, they moved from under the table, Kevin all but lifting her to her feet by the arm around her waist. The throng of people instantly tried to push them apart, and it didn't help that Tuesday seemed to be unaware of the concept of pushing back.

But the jacket held, keeping them close to each other as they began their slow journey to the door.

Concrete Jungle - Part 2 (Kevin and the Clement Girl) Empty
PostSubject: Re: Concrete Jungle - Part 2 (Kevin and the Clement Girl)   Concrete Jungle - Part 2 (Kevin and the Clement Girl) EmptyMon Jun 28, 2021 7:15 pm

Kevin was talking, but Elenore could not hear a word that was being said as the other two occupants under the table made their enjoyment known to the world -- or at least those close enough to hear them -- Elenore's eyes had moved away from Kevin towards the noise, only to be faced with images the young witch knew she would not be able to scrub from her mind quick enough as the sheer amount of nudity and intimacy was displayed without a care of the world.

Kevin's close proximity made the witch jump slightly as he leaned in to whisper, drawing her attention away from the adult scenes unfolding not too far from them, her eyes trying to keep in focus of the male as he explained what they had to do. Sharing the man's coat did not sound like something she should be doing, but he was trying to get them out of this place, together. It was only until they were outside, right? It wouldn't hurt...

Nodding her understanding in a manner that showed her agreement, Elenore moved numbly in to the man's jacket with one arm, the other gently closing around her waist and clutching at the coat to keep herself inside of it. For but a brief moment, the coat felt like a protective blanket around her slender frame, but all too quickly that image faded as Kevin's arm wrapped around her waist, holding her close to his side in a manner much too familiar for a man she didn't know.

No protest came, though, Elenore knew that this was necessary.

On the count of three the witch tried to push herself up, but the man beside her all but lifted her from the floor, making easy work of her light frame which brought her worries to a higher level she hadn't expected. The safety of the coat was fading from being, but Elenore followed the man through the crowd, holding on to the coat for dear life as they navigated through the crowd. Faces blurred as they moved, Elenore falling behind for a few moments here and there, only to be brought back close to the man currently holding on to her waist a little too tightly.

The throng of people did not make their leaving easy. Pushing and pulling from all angles. Very little registered with Elenore, in truth, except for some of the comments flying around them, not that the witch would ever know who they'd come from.

"Is that the French Prude?"

"He ain't getting any with her, poor bastard!

"Maybe she showed him the good old French kiss, huh?"

The outside came not with the smell of fresh air, there was no such thing in New York. But as the stench changed from the strong scent of those who didn't know how to bathe to the much fouler smell of those who did not know how to excuse themselves to a function bathroom. It took a moment to refocus upon their surroundings, but after a couple of moments, the buildings of Julliards university came in to view, and the safety of being out of the party made itself known.

Gently untangling herself from both Kevin's hold and his coat without seeming rude, Elenore carefully wrapped her own arms around herself as protection from the world, and the loss of contact that she was not in anyway comfortable with.

"T-thank you," Elenore managed after a moment, looking up and down the street for her car. A fleeting hopefulness which was soon extinguished when her search came up for nothing. "I need to get to Park Avenue, but... I don't know... how." The witch explained flatly. If pushed, she would perhaps be able to walk back, but she'd never navigated New York in the dark on her own. And Merlin only knew how to use public transport, and the boy was likely a Muggle, so she couldn't very well ask him if he could apparate them both back to her penthouse building.

Getting out wasn't easy, but Kevin had navigated worse jams than these. Of course, it had been years since... But the redhead wouldn't think of that now, his focus laser sharp on making it to the door.

Which they did some fifteen minutes later.

The night air was a welcome relief, washing away the stench and feel of other people's sweat on his person. The coat hadn't survived as well as Kevin would have preferred, having ripped noticeably in the middle in it's efforts to keep together two people the crowds insisted on tearing apart. But the garment had held up, it was like the man who wore it.

I little damaged, a little worse for wear, but reliable when it needed to be.

As Tuesday removed herself from the coat, the man reached for his jeans pocket, locating his flask and taking it out. A few droughts of the contents later, the world was starting to make sense again.

"I need to get to Park Avenue, but... I don't know... how."

Normally, the redhead would have told ehr to take the Subway, or hail ehr a taxi if he was in a kinder mood. But the way she looked, physically holding herself together as if something awful had happened, he new he he was trapped.

He'd always been a sucker for a kid in need.

"That's not too far from here," he lied gently, putting away his flask again. "We can walk," he added, moving beside her and then grudgingly taking off his coat again. He wasn't sure if Tuesday was actually cold but he dropped it on her shoulders regardless. "Here, I'll show you the way." The man made sure not to stand too close to her, always keeping a foot and a half's distance between the two until, finally, he heard the clicking of her heels, indicating she was walking.

They had a good forty five minutes of walking ahead of them, because even Kevin Harrington would have had the good sense to not let Tuesday walk all over New York alone at night.

Kevin's reassurance that her home was not too far was one that brought a small nod from Elenore in response. She knew it wasn't that far, but she didn't know how to navigate the city on her own in the dark. Everything changed after dark, the maids had said, and the fear of the whole evening that had happened had drained the hope from Elenore, insisting that she was not going to be able to find her own way home.

The weight of Kevin's coat jogged Elenore back to the here and now a moment later, her mind wandering inadvertently back to the Palace of Versailles and her Grandmere being washed away in an instant as the garment covered her slender frame, resting against the tops of her legs where it hung loosely. The smell of alcohol and cigarettes clung to the material, but Elenore didn't try to move it away as she hurried to keep up with Kevin's longer strides as he insisted he would show her the way.

The thought of heading out in to the middle of the night with a man she barely knew hadn't registered with the witch as she walked, too intent on getting home, being safe, and deciding what she was going to do now. Was staying in New York the right thing to do? How would she explain to her Maman? To Jacques? Papa? No, the idea was quickly pushed out of her mind of returning to France with the notion she would have to admit she'd been wrong. Elenore refused to admit that.

But the alternative meant staying here.

Experiencing all of the unpleasantness that was America.

Silence loomed over the pair as Elenore caught herself in her own mind, not knowing what to say to the man beside her. Not wanting to say anything to the man beside her. Her thoughts were keeping her busy, and her companion was not making any sound to the contrary. Perhaps they could just walk the way together without a conversation ensuing?

But after ten minutes of walking in silence, Elenore's mind caught up to the fact she was indeed being rude to her companion, that the crisis in her head could wait, and so, with a sideways glance at the redheaded male who had just saved her from a truly awful place, Elenore spoke. "Do you like New York?" She asked carefully, not wishing to sound judgemental if the man said he did. She doubted anyone could like this place, though, it was so... uncouth.

"I don't like New York." The witch admitted softly a moment later, as if it needed to be said. "Everything is so different here. I... didn't think it would be like this..."
