Dominique was walking around her room as if she wasn’t trying to talk herself out of doing something. For the first time, she was going to visit her dad. And this would be the first time she had seen him in years. There was a part of her that blamed him for leaving. But then again she didn’t know the reason. “ I am going to go through with it.” She then walked over to her vanity and looked at herself. Dominque smiled at the thought of seeing her dad. She just hoped that he was just as happy to see her. There was a problem the last time he saw her she was still a little girl. Not a girl who had just turned sixteen.
She then grabbed her makeup bag and started to apply. Her excitement was building up. Right now her mother had no idea who she was. At least her dad could feel the role. Maybe he could give her advice. But she wasn’t going to give up her hope. She knew that he could just get up and walk away. Dominique didn’t want to even think about that. That would be painful but doubt was sitting in. In all of the years he was in prison, he didn’t reach out for a visit. Was this his way of protecting her? She wished that she knew what was going on. Maybe she could push it back to another day. What if today was the day that her mom got her memories back? And she would be gone, she couldn’t live with herself.
“ Why must this be so hard?” She then started to talk to herself in the mirror. “ What would Dominique do?” Pausing as if she was waiting for someone to answer her. “ No, I won’t live in fear! I am going to go today. I don’t give a damn what he says or wants.” She had begged her grandpa to put her on his visiting list. It seemed like he didn’t want anything to do with her dad. Which was another question that she was going to ask him. What did he do to make everyone hate him? Not even her Uncle Jackson would give her a straight answer. Walking over to her closet she was going to pick her outfit. “ What to wear?” She then started to run her hand over the hangers. “ What says Hi Daddy I haven’t seen you in years. And I swear that I am not mad at you but I need an answer.” That is when she found a floral romper. “ I think this will be perfect.”
After grabbing the romper she found a pair of her black wedge sandals. It didn’t take her too long to get dressed. As she was leaving her room she saw Randi. “ Please take care of Mom while I am away.” She didn’t want to let it know that she was going to visit her dad. “ Of course, I will take care of Mistress Greene.” She smiled as she walked out of the mansion. There was her ride waiting for her. Dominique knew that she was going to beg to learn how to drive. Then she wouldn’t have to have someone to give her rides. She then climbed into the SUV and told them she was ready. That is when she was looking out the window watching everything pass by. Now there was no turning back.
Before she realized they were already there. Dominique got out and was walking to their doors. She took a deep breath. “ I got this.” She then went up to the window and told them who she was visiting. That is when they took her to the side and patted her down. She knew this was just part of their jobs. And she didn’t want to make it any harder. Just like they brought a dog and was sniffing her. She knew that it was trained to tell if she was carrying any drugs. She was clean so she didn’t have to worry. It didn’t take them long to tell her that she could go. It was getting real quickly. It seemed like she was closer to finding the truth every step she took. What was everyone hiding from her? It wasn’t like her dad was a serial killer. As she was walking into the room where her visit was she heard someone call to her. Dominique noticed that it was another prisoner.
“ Damn, why don’t you come on over and give Daddy some sugar.” Dominique was turning bright red. She wouldn’t give him the satisfaction he was getting to her. And she was doing her best to ignore him. But she had the biggest grin as she got up to her dad. “ Daddy!!” She then hugged him. “ I missed you so much.”
