Ancient Runes - Lesson One AND Two (All Years)

Daniel was quite glad to be back working. Whilst his summer with Theo and Naomira had been more than fun, he had missed the routine of teaching. New appointments had, of course, been made over the summer, and posting results to the fifth and seventh years had taken a little of his time, but it wasn't enough.

After saying goodbye to Theo, who was getting himself ready for school that morning, and giving Naomira a soft kiss on the cheek, Daniel had left for work with a smile on his face. Today, he hoped was going to be a little different, and he hoped that the kids would get in to the spirit of the lesson.

Posting notes in each common room, Daniel had advised that the students bring only a notebook and pen, and wear suitable clothing for an outdoor activity. It had been vague, but it had been on purpose.

Now, he stood waiting for the students to arrive, hands in his pockets and eyes alert for movement both inside and outside the forest.

After her Defense lesson, Layla ran back up to the common room to change. She had threw her hair up into a bun and put on a pair of black shorts and a purple shirt. Professor Jameson had said to dress suitable to being outdoors meaning he must have not thought the robes were suitable for a lesson, therefore she decided to dress out of uniform. If it was not allowed, then she would be willing to serve the detention. Though, he was the Headmaster so if her said dress comfortable then she shouldn't get into trouble, right?

Just as the note said, she grabbed a notebook and a pen and trudged out to meet her class. She was a fan of her Ancient Runes class. To be honest, it was probably her best class.

Layla was a bit nervous to be going so close to the forest and she really hoped they wouldn't be going inside the forest. Once she reached the Forest, she saw that once again, she was the first student to arrive. "Goodmorning Headmaster," she smiled to the pretty man. Looking around, she wondered if Ethan would come and when. She hoped she wouldn't be the only one here.

Reading the note in the common room with a soft hum, Adaline summoned a slightly thick jumper from her room as well as her book bag, not really bothering to walk all the way to the girls dorm. Waiting for them to come and grabbing them, she left the common room and made her way out of the castle and down to the Forbidden Forest, where Daniel already was along with one other person.

"Good morning Headmaster." Adaline said with a soft smile on her lips as she made her way towards the two, standing next to the girl, a Gryffindor, and waiting for everyone else to arrive so the lesson could start.

Adaline loved Ancient Runes and she had already decided to look for jobs that had something to do with Runes, probably Warding. Curse breaking was a good alternative but with a child on the way, she didn't want to risk it.

Hearing that they would be outside had piqued Finley's interest more so for Ancient Runes. It had become, over the last year, the one lesson that Finley excelled in and it made him feel much better in himself to know this. Of course, he was not perfect, but it was character building.

Urging Naomi to go quicker - she always seemed to drag her heels when it came to Ancient Runes - Finley made his way down to the class with a smile on his face. This was, he was almost certain, going to be a challenge today, but what challenge he wasn't sure.

Noting the small group of people gathered, Finley slowed down, moving to the side of the older Ravenclaw, but not acknowledging her past a small smile which he didn't know if she'd seen. "M-morning, professor!" Finley greeted the man, his eyes not quite meeting the Headmaster's, but moving in his direction no less.

Having Ancient Runes out in the Forbidden Forest was certainly surprising but it made Aiden hum softly in amusment as he wondered what they could be doing out there. Shrugging his shoulders, he pulled on a warm jumper to help him keep warm and grabbed his notebook and pen that the note said to bring. Deciding that he would just leave his bag here and come back for it after Ancient Runes, Aiden made his way out of the common room and outside into the slightly chilly weather.

He had been very pleased with his OWL results, considering that he passed all of them with either an Exceeds Exception or an Outstanding. His siblings had been just as equally pleased though his sister had been understandably upset that he didn't get and Outstanding on Ancient Runes.

"Good morning Professor." The Slytherin said with a soft smile on his lips as he approached the slowly growing group of people, moving to stand next to the Ravenclaws, seeing as there really were't that much Slytherins there.

Ancient Runes was something that interested Kai, enough to want to become a Cursebreaker. He wanted exactly sure what their job was, but the Headmaster would know, right? Kai had dressed comfortable for a class outside, grabbed a notebook and pen and and walked down to the grounds. It was a nice morning, not too hot, nor too cold but just perfect, or so he thought.

With Ancient Runes being the first class of his day, it put Kai in a great mood. Seeing Adaline made it even better and he reminded himself to ask her if she wanted to walk to classes together this year.

Last year, Kai's OWL for Ancient Runes had been his highest grade and this year, he was sure the same would happen with his NEWT. The boy was patient as he waited for the rest of his classmates, though he silently hoped they'd come a bit quicker because he was ready for this class to get started.

If having Care of Magical Creatures indoors was confusing, it was nothing to seeing Ancient Runes being taught outside this lesson. Following the instructions, Sebastian got himself ready for the class, bringing a notepad as requested and hurrying down to the meeting area. It took him a short while, but eventually he could make out a group huddled by the forest.

As he got closer, Sebastian noted the Slytherin he'd been hoping to see since the first day and moved towards the younger boy. "Hey." Seb acknowledged his friend with his usual quirky smile. "Morning professor!" He added a moment later, hoping not to anger the headmaster with any rudeness that he certainly didn't mean.

The rest of the group he didn't really know very well, so he didn't speak to the rest, deciding on just standing around and waiting for the lesson to start.

Watching his students line up for the lesson, Daniel smiled to himself at the familiar faces before him. Of course, he would have been happier with a few more students, but honestly, that was their loss, not his. Waiting for a few more minutes to pass from the time they should start in case there were anymore students coming along, Daniel decided to get started.

"Okay, good morning everyone, looks like we might as well get started now. Today, we will be doing some team building exercises based around Ancient Runes. Try to keep you all interested in the subject, whilst working on your development." Daniel explained with a smile. "So, today we will be working on a treasure hunt, based upon your studies. You'll all work together to complete it, leave no one behind.

"Your first clue..." Daniel supplied, handing a piece of paper to Kai.

Clue One

"Work out what it is, and go find it." Daniel explained, smiling to himself. "Oh, also, everyone wands at the ready. I will follow you, but you will need them to tackle obstacles you may come across. When you're ready, please begin."

Damien was facing his worst nightmare. He was going to be late for a class ! He hurried into the Common Room and changed to some jeans, a grey jumper with a hoodie and a pair of sneakers. He grabbed his notebook and a pen and ran downstairs, running over some people and apologizing for such in a hurry in his way there.

He was anxious and was blaming himself for his lateness. To be late for one of his favorite classes was like a crime to him. It was only when he was close to the class' students that he realised that their class would be outside.

''I'm sorry for being late !'' He shouted when he got close to them. He stopped running and panted, tired from the run. When he regained his breath, he spoke to the Headmaster directly. ''I apologize for my lateness, Headmaster. May I still participate in this class ?''

Upon giving Kai the clue, Daniel looked up to the sound of shouting, his hand instinctively going to his wand in case it was trouble. His fear of trouble, however, was unfounded when only a student came lolloping up to them, incredibly out of breath. "Good morning, Mr Halloway." Daniel greeted the student with a small smile.

Whilst he might want for students to keep time closely, he understood that today was an exception. They weren't in their usual classroom, so he would forgive lateness on the understanding it was due to a mistake.

"Of course you may. Kai has the clue, you're all working to solve the clue, and then find the next one from the clue given. A treasure hunt." Daniel explained, he was sure the boy would understand the common game. "Wand at the ready, Damien, we will be heading in to the Forbidden Forest, and I'd rather you were ready for the obstacles." Daniel told the boy, motioning for him to join the rest of the class.

DUE TO THE LESSON NOT BEING FINISHED, THIS LESSON WILL CONTINUE ON TO LESSON TWO. THIS THEREFORE MEANS THAT 60 POINTS ARE ON OFFER THIS LESSON RATHER THAN THE USUAL 30.
