Likes:
  - Science; raised between worlds, Emily was brought up with both magical and muggle influence. One of the things she particularly took to was muggle science. Her father, a muggleborn wizard, graduated Hogwarts and remained in the muggle community, furthering his studies and going on to get an apprenticeship at a forensic science institute in his hometown. Emily was fascinated, naturally, and was relentless in her questioning of her father on his job, and he would tell her what he knew she would understand. While not necessarily a career path she will take on herself, it is definitely a hobby - albeit slightly tainted since her father left for another woman.

  - Family; a matter of upmost importance to Emily, family is everything. From a relatively large  family herself, she grew up with three sisters and a brother in a house arguably too small to accommodate them all. In spite of the usual childish arguments, she loves all of her siblings, and appreciates them much more now that she is a little older, and doesn't see them all the time as she used to.

  - Gossip; while much less of a hobby, and more something that keeps her on her toes, Emily loves to sit around the common rooms and hear people talk. In her first year, she felt a little bad for listening in on people's conversations. By her second, she carried a notebook around the castle with her, and would write down everything her classmates and upperclassmen would say that she deemed important. In her third, she would 'accidentally' leave notes around the castle where she knew they would be found, detailing conversations she would 'accidentally' hear. It gave her a thrill.

Dislikes:
  - Poetry; unnecessary waffle, in Emily's opinion. While she is an incredibly creative person - and she loves to read, loves to write, Emily finds that poetry lacks originality. Metaphors and uneven rhythms that always mean the same thing in the end. Feelings. Label her bitter, but she never took to poetry - and hell betide anyone who tries to woo her over in such a manner.

-Confrontation; Emily is a very bookish sort of girl. Easily startled, she finds even having someone raise their voice at her makes her feel uncomfortable. Physical confrontation is the worst. Luckily, she hasn't been discovered in her habits of telling everyone in the castle everyone else's news, thanks to the ability to change her handwriting, and no-one can identify it as her thanks to the use of muggle pens as opposed to quills. If anyone did find out and expose her for it, she knows she would go into a full-on panic.

-Rain, particularly thunderstorms; a long-term phobia that Emily isn't sure of the origins of. The sound of a thunder crack (or even heavy wind, some days) will make her jump, and the sight of a lightning flash has her hiding. Whether that's in her robes, or beneath her bedsheets, Emily will go to extreme measures to avoid going outside in a storm - having pulled sick days from classes to do so, despite her thirst for knowledge. Catching up in the library has been a godsend.

Strengths:
  - Attention to detail; Emily notices nearly everything. She has a keen eye, and can detect the smallest changes in mood, in atmosphere, in speech patterns, but will also be able to pick out errors or poor phrasing in both her own and other students' work, if they ask. For this reason, it isn't uncommon for others to approach her with their essays and ask if she can give them a hand. It fills were with a sort of pride.

  - Classically intelligent; book-smart. Emily has never opened a book without following it through to the last word, even if it took her a few weeks to get there. Always immaculately turned out homework, the witch is known for consistent grades in the subjects she cares about, and keeping a good average up in those that she doesn't.

  - Physical fitness; while she may have not taken to magical sports, with a personal distain for Quidditch, Emily is very physically fit. She runs nearly every day and eats well. In a family of five children, she knew all too well the implications of letting her health slip; her family was never particularly well off and she didn't use a gym to train, having to find activities that she enjoyed. Running, arguably the most mundane, turned out to be her favourite.

Weaknesses:
  - Awful at keeping secrets; whether it is her place to tell secrets or it isn't, Emily almost always does. It isn't through spite, neither is it through the naivety of not knowing that secrets travel. She knows that they do, and she loves it. Walking through the castle, her head a little low, Emily is always listening out for people snitching on their friends, classmates, or people they hate. It comes almost terrifyingly naturally to the girl to relay information to people she knows will talk. However, her naturally quiet persona means that she comes across as very easy to trust, and it's almost like secrets just gravitate in her direction.

  - Impulsive liar; sometimes, she doesn't even have to think about it. Lies fall through her lips easier than mutter melts on the Spanish pavement. When she was younger, it was mundane things - "No, I didn't break the vase!" and "I have no idea where the sweets have gone, ma!" - but as she grew up, her lies became more convincing, and have dabbled in more serious matters, such as being able to trust her, being able to confide in her, that she might have, perhaps, seen someone with someone else's boyfriend on the seventh floor by that one corridor. It isn't even something she's particularly proud of, but it's something she can't help, and it has been known to get her into some awful situations.

  - Family; Emily will do anything for her family. There are no two-ways about it. Whether she has to pop to the local corner shop to get a bottle of milk because her mother has a cold, or if it's stepping in front of a curse for any of her siblings, she would do it in a heartbeat. The best, and only real way to get inside her head is to target those she loves the most. No-one lays a finger on any of her family without Emily getting involved.

Positive traits:
  - Energetic
  - Merciful
  - Proud
  - Imaginative

Negative traits:
  - Clingy
  - Deceptive
  - Manipulative
  - Unforgiving

Quirks:
  - Makes up nicknames for everyone she meets; something that started as a child, Emily will usually make her mind up about someone within the first few minutes of meeting them. All of her siblings have nicknames, as do her close friends, but even those she barely speaks to have names that she uses in her own head. Of course, she usually remembers their real names, but the names she gives them helps remind her of their personalities, or they are often linked to their physical appearance. Some are, therefore, nicer than others.

  - Gestures a lot; actions speak louder than words. At least, that's what Emily tells herself when she goes off on a rant and finds her hands moving against each other, or pointing in different directions. Even with her head, if she is passionate about whatever she is taking about, she will gesture a lot - and often gets called out on it, resulting in the usual death of conversation when she realises.

  - Blinks excessively; Emily knows it probably makes her look dense, and it has absolutely nothing to do with her eyesight, which has been checked on numerous occasions to make sure. Though she has a hint of a condition referred to as Browns Syndrome, which often corrects itself over time and primarily impacts young children in that they struggle to look upwards and inwards with both eyes at the same time, Emily has near enough perfect vision and just particularly dry eyes.

  - Twiddles small objects; this is neither a nervous tick nor the result of having twitchy hands. Twirling pens like batons and rolling balls of paper between her fingers is totally idle, but a quirk she has developed and is completely unable to let go of; similar to nail biting, or tapping, she supposes - it's just one of those things. Without anything in her hands, she is perfectly still - only with the presence of an object in her grasp it appear.

With an almost obnoxiously loud groan, Adie Knox bolted upright in her bed, one hand to her bulging stomach with the other shaking her boyfriend awake. Finlay MacDonald, from the other side of the mattress, groaned in protest before he came-to, the moonlight still filtering through the curtains of their room in the early hour, spirals of snow toppling down outside. On a cautious drive to the hospital - one full of threats to curse and emasculate and decapitate Finlay if he didn't 'get a move on and drive faster, bloody idiot!' - MacDonald toyed with a box in his pocket, a small smile on his face as he looked over at the woman in the passenger seat. The love of his life. The woman he was going to marry.

After nineteen gruelling hours of labour, Adie held her first born daughter in her arms. For months, her and Finlay had been discussing names for their baby girl, but the one that parted her lips when she saw her daughter for the first time wasn't even one they'd discussed before - rather, a name belonging to a recently deceased young lady that Adie had attended school with. "Emily," she breathed, pressing a kiss to her newborn's head, her baby's father repeating the name with a sound almost like he was choking, his hands releasing themselves from their previous stature of massaging his partner's neck to dropping to her bedside, one one to the ground, the other his only stability as he reached for the box.

"Adie Knox - you make me happier than I ever thought I could be," his voice carried, the blonde with in the bed having to shift slightly to see him, her eyes blowing wide at the sight of the ring sparkling in its box. "You are, undoubtedly, the best thing that has ever happened to me; you are the love of my life, my best friend - my soulmate. In every life I ever have, Adie, I'll choose you. You bring colour to my sunsets, warmth to my nights. I love you - and I need you, forever, Adie. Will you -"

Adie was nodding before she even knew what to do with herself, both hands holding their baby against her chest as tears streamed down her face, hormones and emotions wreaking havoc through her body. A sob interrupted him as she moved again, a little closer to the edge of the bed, her hear up in her throat as she let Finlay continue, sure that she saw a single tear roll down his chiseled features.

"Will you marry me?"

The wedding took place three years later when Emily was able to walk, their daughter as the flower girl for the ceremony. By that time, they'd had another child, another girl, named Heather. By the time Emily was seven, she had two more sisters, Lorna and Bonnie - at which point Adie and Finlay decided that it was no longer practical for them to be living in the two bedroom flat, and found a quaint little cottage that was cheap enough to sustain thanks to its incredibly remote location.

As the eldest child, Emily was basically the babysitter for her siblings when they were acting up or when her parents physically didn't have enough hands to look after them all. The day of Emily's ninth birthday, she was given the news that she would soon have a baby brother - which, despite an already very cramped living situation, made the young witch swell with happiness, her magic not quite controlled yet to result in a broken vase in the living room at her squeak of happiness.

Little Calum was a troublemaker from the start. Clambering out of his cot as soon as he could remain upright, tugging and prodding at the cat, leaving a trail of destruction in his wake. But Emily adored him, and doted on him, and would always be the first to her brother's side when she heard him crying. In equal parts, she loved all of her siblings the same, but her bond with Calum was one she could never put into words.

A year to the day after Calum was born, Emily found herself unable to soothe him, no matter how much she bounced him and sang to him and stroked his head. He screamed every time he was touched, and no medicines her family could afford would help. Rushing him to the doctor, they were given the news; Calum had a quite advanced blood disease, meningococcal bacteria resulting in a septicaemia that could not be treated as much as it was needed to be. Barely even three weeks later, Calum passed away.

For the following six months, Adie was nearly unresponsive; she didn't sleep, barely ate, shook all the time. Finlay didn't handle it much better, but with work to distract him, he had a little bit of help. Through his work, he met a young woman by the name of Fiona, in whom Finlay found comfort over the loss of his son, and he left in the midst of the eighth month after Calum's death, leaving Emily almost solely responsible for looking after her whole family.

The witch would never forgive her father for what he did to them. Losing her husband broke Adie beyond repair, but with Emily off to school (despite the young witch protesting greatly, saying she didn't mind - that she could stay, and help, and work to help pay for their keep), Adie had no choice. Emily wrote to her mother every week, expecting updates on her sisters, on her mother's life. Adie healed, eventually - Calum's picture framed on the living room wall, now a happy memory of her loving, beautiful boy.

Adie Knox met Finlay MacDonald at the age of fifteen, where they immediately started a whirlwind romance. Adie was the typical good girl - sorted into Hufflepuff house at Hogwarts at the age of eleven, and Finlay was the polar opposite. A boastful Gryffindor with a seeming inability to keep his mouth shut; he always had an opinion, and always had to voice it.

When they were early year students, mere acquaintances, Adie had hated him with a passion. She had never found it within her to care for the boy, until paired with him on an Astronomy assignment, and sitting on the tower in each other's company became more regular, even after they'd turned their findings in. They were good for each other; Finlay helped Adie to let her hair down, and Adie helped him through the loss of his parents. Polar opposites, attracted by the stars - but it was all too good to be true.
