| Elyah was running late. She knew that very well and it did not please her to say the least. Max's cat had been running around her the whole morning, and it was quite difficult to get ready when the devilish creature was always rubbing against her legs, and almost made her trip over three times. She loved Max, she really did, but that cat could not be controlled.
Sighing, she got out of her Common Room in the Dungeons and ascended the stairs as quickly as possible without landing on her face. She almost tripped over a few times, but it was nowhere as bad as when she almost stepped on the little kitten. Her leather bag was slapping against her side with every movement, and Elyah bit her tongue to stop a painful moan from escaping. Maybe she had taken more books than what she should have.
Pulling her hair up in a messy bun and blowing a stray strand of hair out of her face, Elyah quietly slipped inside the classroom, nodding at the Professor quickly before moving to an empty desk. Thankfully, she didn't have to deal with anyone right now, and she truly hoped detention was not what was waiting for her. |

| Scarlett smiled warmly as the students took their seats, ready for class. There was a much bigger turnout than there had been for her flying lesson, that was certain. The class would be theory, setting up for practicals in later classes, if the kids were interested in returning. Basically, setting up important foundations.
"Hello everyone," she began, looking around to the class, and standing up from her desk "I'm Professor Waters and welcome to Alchemy," subconsciously, she paced in front of her desk. "So basically, today will just be theory, making sure that you all understand the fundamentals of Alchemy, before moving into rather more exciting prac classes later on," she explained.
"So Alchemy is a very old science tracing all the way back to Egypt." she stated "I'd describe it as the mixture of muggle chemistry and magic. And one of the main concepts was this thing called Transmutation. Can anyone give a definition of this, and provide an example?" she addressed the class. |

| Theo's attention had moved almost instantly to the professor as she began to speak, taking in her words enthusiastically. He already knew her name and the subject, but he sat quietly throughout, until Professor Waters got to the point about what Transmutation was.
Theo's hand shot up almost the second after the question was posed, and after waiting to be called upon, he spoke. "I think Transmutation is the change of one thing in to another form..." He explained, though that wasn't exactly scientific, he was sure. "An example..." Theo quite obviously racked his brain in that moment, before remembering something.
"Does the Triwizard Cup... Victor Krum, in the Triwizard Cup, turned himself in to... half a shark? Does that count?" Theo asked the witch, looking at her hopefully, and really, really hoping he hadn't completely missed the point of the question in that moment - in which case he'd end up looking pretty stupid. |

| Martin was a little late getting to the Alchemy class, but hurriedly took his seat and heard the boy mention transmutation when he gave his answer. Part of him wanted to pipe up and mention one of the most famous examples of transmutation the Philosopher's Stone, but felt it would have been rather unfair of him to show up late and then try to steal class points. Instead, he took out some spare parchment for notes and brought out a book, deciding to wait and see if somebody else would give an answer. He was really excited that this class was being taught now, and couldn't wait to learn more about what to him seemed incredibly interesting. Like a lot of Ravenclaws, he'd perused the book on his own before he ever set foot in the classroom. After all, it wouldn't do to sign up for a class that you'd find boring or a waste of time, right? |

| As Professor Waters started the class, Lux listened, hoping that they would be doing something practical. Although her knowledge of alchemy wasn't very vast or deep, she knew that it was closely connected with potions, a subject she didn't dislike all that much.
When Professor Waters posed the question to the class, Lux had to think for a moment. She was so deep in thought that she almost missed what Theo said, catching that bit about the shark. Before she could help it, an eyebrow rose. What? The next few moments were spent trying to suppress her grin although she wasn't very successful at it.
"I think Transmutation has to do with changing one chemical element to become another chemical element," Lux began once she felt she could talk without laughing her head off. "You know, those things in the Periodic Table. An example would be changing something like copper into gold, silver, or some other metal."
It was pretty logical, really. Transmutation sounded something like - okay, not really, but close enough - Transfiguration so it had to do with changing one thing into another. Take into consideration that this was Alchemy which meant chemicals and the like, it wasn't that hard to figure out what Transmutation meant.
