OOC: Due to a lack of participation on the first part of the course, everyone has been put through to part two - this will reflect in the grades of those who didn't post, but I will not fail you (I do have a heart at times). However, for those who didn't complete stage one, you will have to complete part two to a higher (whilst staying realistic to your characters abilities) standard.

The Scenario

You will be given four tasks each (everyone gets the same) for your character to complete to the best of their ability. Note the title of the examination is Muggle and Magical Combat so you must make use of both types of combat at least once. Failure to use one type will result in instant failure.

Your character is currently in a simulation room, they will have had the ordeal explained to them. They will be fighting dummies designed to look and act like humans. All dummies will be of a qualified Auror standard, so this will NOT be a walk in the park. Each stage will be harder than the one before.

Stage One

You are walking down an alleyway - it is night time, dark enough to impede vision a little. You are aware of your surroundings enough to have drawn your wand. There is a scuffling of a foot....

(Defeat two strong men, of Auror quality. It is preferable to knock out the men rather than killing them, but if necessary, it is allowable.)

Good luck.

Muggle & Magical Combat Part Two - Newbury Empty

Throughout the time between their lessons, Jake had been working with Marilyn to improve his capabilities with Muggle combat. He'd been given a new partner who really didn't like him for absolutely no reason, but he could at least rely on his girlfriend to help out. And she had.

Jake had gone from strength to strength with Muggle combat, and though he wasn't as offensive as Marilyn in that area, he was at least holding a good defense and taking people down in to locks that would serve as enough until he got back up. However, as the time drew around for them to take their test, Jake had grown nervous, and thus spent longer practicing, each night crawling in to bed with Marilyn aching and worrying.

But with each night that passed she kissed his worries away, and told him he was going to do just fine. To believe in himself. He would be fine, he knew he would be, but that didn't mean he wouldn't worry in the face of a test. The morning of the test Jake had made both himself and Marilyn breakfast to busy himself, though he almost always normally did anyway.

But time flew, and soon they were both in the university, listening as Louis gave them their instructions before they were ushered off to their own tests. Jake gave Marilyn a quick kiss, wishing her luck before he hurried off to his own test. Jake had taken a few moments outside his test room to steady himself before he'd stepped inside, slipping out his wand and getting ready for the simulation to begin.

As the scene - that was barely visible - came in to view, Jake squinted in the darkness, trying to work out where he was. An alleyway by the looks of it, though he couldn't be sure of anything at this point. Taking a deep breath to steady his breathing, Jake listened, exhaling slowly, his whole body alert and ready for an attack.

The shuffling of a foot came from his left, and Jake paused in his walking, readying himself. The shuffling continued, and Jake tightened his grip on his wand. "Show yourself." He commanded, his voice full of confidence he did not feel. There was silence.

"Stupefy!"

"Protego!" Jake answered almost immediately, watching the spell bounce away from him. Moving a little bit away, Jake caught sight of the man he'd been aiming at and sent a silent spell in the man's direction, managing to successfully trip the man in question before he saw the light of a second spell hurtling towards him. Ducking out of the way, Jake sent a stunning spell back in response, seeing the shield go up and block his spell.

So he was fighting two men. One on each side of him.

One, he was quite sure he'd managed to get in a leg bind, so that was a low target on his left hand side. The other...

"Crucio!"

Shit! Jake just about managed to drop to the floor before the spell hit him, hitting the cobbled floor harder than he'd liked to have done. A second streak of light flashed towards him and the Auror in Training held a shield in place long enough to be able to move away, rolling right and finding himself behind some kind of box. Cover. Jake let out a shaky breath, trying to assess as quickly as possible.

Spotting the form of the downed Auror, Jake shot the Body-Bind Curse at the man, and just about made out the form go rigid. Good, now only one person to deal with. Leaning against the box for a moment Jake tried to work out where the other way, listening for footsteps.

But there was only silence.

Turning enough to see, Jake caught sight of the hex coming his way, ducking back behind the box that exploded not a moment later, knocking him from his feet to the ground. Scrambling to his feet, Jake sent two hexes back at the man, trying to locate where the spells were coming from as he moved away from the original area in which he'd just been.

However, knowing there was only one person now, Jake swung his wand. "Lumos Maxima!" He called out as a ball of light flew from his wand and lit up the whole alley. The man before him was obviously not expecting that as he moved to shield his eyes, taking them off of Jake as he sent a Full Body-Bind at the man, who went rigid and then fell.

Not lowering his wand, Jake scanned the area, breathing a little heavy and not aware of the light scratch on his cheek from the explosion. It seemed the coast was clear, and two bodies lay on the floor, detained, but not dead.

OOC:

Congratulations, you have passed task one!

Now that you have finished the first of four tasks, you will be expected to move on to the next level. The first task might not have been too much trouble for your character, but rest assured these things will get harder.

Scenario Two
Once you have finished with the alleyway scene, the room goes white, everywhere, just to remind you that this is only a simulation room. You will have a couple of minutes to collect yourself and heal yourself in any manner that might have occurred. Be quick, you do not have time to stand idle.

A count down will be given.

Three...

Two...

One...

And your next scene will appear.

You are in a well lit room now, An office, perhaps, though it is lacking in furniture. An abandoned office then? You are stood in the doorway and before you on the floor is the body of a colleague who you have worked with (this is up to the individual writer if the colleague was close, or not, but you would recognise them).

Your decision is to approach them and try and wake them, or check the room.

Either way, there will be an attack, starting with you losing your wand. You will have to take down four people (Muggle) in hand to hand combat, whilst also trying to keep your colleague from further harm.

Good luck.

Muggle & Magical Combat Part Two - Newbury Empty
PostSubject: Re: Muggle & Magical Combat Part Two - Newbury   Muggle & Magical Combat Part Two - Newbury EmptySat Mar 28, 2015 1:24 pm

As the room turned back to just a plain room, Jake squinted slightly at the adjustment to the light, still breathing a little heavier than he would have liked, but ready to move on to the next level of the course. Adrenaline was definitely pumping through his veins now, and the feeling... well, it was great!

Sucking in a few more deep breaths, Jake got his breathing to a lower rate, still alert and his wand ready in his left hand for the next stage. He knew it wasn't going to be easy, but he was ready to take on the world.

It seemed like a lifetime had passed before the countdown began, with Jake's eyes staying alert as he kept looking around him for some sign of the next task.

It was no surprise then, that the Auror-in-training jumped when he heard the countdown begin, his eyes darting before he realised it was the introduction to the next task.

However, what Jake came face to face with not a moment later threw him off slightly. An all but empty room, with nothing showing as an immediate threat. Frowning slightly to himself in that moment, Jake looked around a little before noticing the body in the middle of the room.

And in that moment his breathing stopped.

To Jake, the figure had appeared as one of a handful of people that he simply couldn't see in such a manner. The situation in itself was stressful enough, without seeing the witch you loved in such a bad manner. But, knowing this was a test, Jake stopped himself from rushing to the figure who looked like his girlfriend, instead stepping in to the room with caution.

"Mari?" Jake called out to the body softly, eyes not on the witch as he checked the room. This had happened before, something sickeningly similar, but from what he could see there wasn't another figure in the room. His vision hadn't locked on to the one person, and it seemed the witch was the only one there. "Mari..?" Jake tried again, allowing his eyes to lower to the figure. Deep down he knew it wasn't his girlfriend, but the simulation was playing this out, and he had to play along.

But, even if he believed Professor Clement wouldn't do this, he wasn't going to take any chances on Marilyn's safety.

"Jake..."

"You're safe." Jake insisted, because now he wasn't sure that he believed Professor Clement wouldn't do this.

But that statement was wrong, so very, very wrong.

It was only a moment later that Jake was knocked off of his feet, his wand flying out of his hand as he broke his own fall. With no time to retrieve it, Jake pushed himself off of the floor, turning back in the direction of the offender. Finding himself before four men of varying physique stood before him. Outnumbered, to say the least, Jake still made the move to put himself between the four and the figure of his girlfriend.

Simulation or no, he knew what he needed to do.

There weren't any wands in any of the men's hands, which meant one of two things, wandless magic, or Muggles. Whatever it was, Jake knew he would be resorting to Muggle tactics of combat. Whilst not ideal, he could deal with it much better now than he could at the start of the course. Marilyn was to thank for that.

Setting himself sideways, right foot forward to the offenders, Jake's eyes darted from person to person as his hands raised, ready to fight. The sneers on the men's faces could have been sickening in any other moment, but Jake was much too concentrated on one of them making the first move to take notice. He just needed a movement, no matter how slight, and he could make his first move. It had taken a while to get the timing right, but with Marilyn teaching him and (quite often) flipping him on his back when he wasn't quick enough, Jake knew he could do this now.

As the first punch was thrown by one of the smaller men, Jake twisted the arm of the man, waiting for the crack of the bones before letting go. A howl of pain went up, and Jake pushed the man back out of the way, eyes still darting between the remaining three. The larger three, it would seem were left before them, and Jake wasn't sure how he was going to deal with this without his own pain being suffered.

As expected, two came at him the second time, and Jake managed to block one attack before the second punch landed in his stomach. Stepping back with the wind slightly knocked out of him, Jake took up the defensive position just in time to parry the next attack, pushing the blow around him and ducking the second punch from the other man. These three were going to be much more difficult it seemed, and it took Jake a good five minutes of parrying, ducking and retaliation to down one of the men in question.

The third had come more involved once the second man had hit the floor out cold, and sweat was rolling down Jake's back from the physical exertion of the ordeal. The blows went again and again, knocking Jake back at times, but a lot of them were parried. He kept himself between the figure of his girlfriend and the men. The sparring was growing harder for Jake, not used to the physicality of fighting, but even after a heavy blow to the face from the larger man that knocked him to the floor and filled his mouth with the taste of blood, Jake pushed himself up, taking down both men not five minutes later with the same move he'd pulled on the first man.

Scrambling for his wand, Jake bound the four, barely finishing before the scene disappeared once more.

Congratulations, you have passed stage two!

With task two now completed, you are able to move on to task three. Good luck.

Scenario Three
The scene once again goes white as the task is completed. With another pause in the timings allowing for healing and any other activity you may feel necessary.

You will once again be given a count down in much the same fashion as before, alerting you to the task beginning once more. The brightness of the room will fade marginally, giving off the feeling of a late afternoon, which would, perhaps, have been nice if the scene before you did not appear. The temperature of the room has escalated quite quickly, denoting that you're perhaps not in this country.

Before you is a mob, with some of your own people trying to control it. They are magical people, and it seems like you are struggling. Your task is to deter the crowd, get it back in to some kind of order, and disperse it.

If anyone is killed, or severely harmed, it will result in automatic failure.

Rememeber: Violence is not always the answer.
