Full Name: Jake Henry Newbury Age: 36 Date of birth: 13 August 1992 Birthplace: Eden Prairie, Minnesota Current home: London, England Blood Status: Halfblood Sexual Alignment: Heterosexual Wand type: 11" Mahogany, Unicorn Hair
Hair colour and style: Brown hair, usually spiked up in a 'naturally' messy look - although Jake would likely tell you otherwise, he does take some time perfecting the roughed up look. Eye colour: Blue eyes, that can subtly change colour, but it's not overly noticeable or important to the young man. Height: Six foot exactly Body type: Body is muscled from the years of playing Quidditch and the continued use of the gym since leaving the Quidditch team. But also because of his job as an Auror where fitness can be the difference between life and death. Mostly, though, Jake just likes sport enough to keep himself very fit. Dress sense: Jake is well groomed, taking pride in his image. His wardrobe is always relatively up to date, and you can rarely find him in casual wear, usually opting for a suit when he is leaving the house - or at least a shirt and smart trousers, anyway. Birthmarks: None. Tattoos: None. Scars: Jake has light scaring on his back from a heroic feat in a burning school. They don't bother him and can barely be seen, but if you really do look, you will see them. Piercings: None.
Likes: (3 minimum) - Keeping fit. - Women - though this has now been narrowed down to only one woman, Veronika. - Family time. - Partying with his ex-colleagues. - Quidditch. - His life in general, as he can't find a fault in it. - Being a father - this is the biggest blessing Jake has had in his life. - Coming home from work to his little family.
Dislikes: (3 minimum) - Dishonesty. - Selfishness. - People who are out to harm those he loves. - Changing nappies.
Strengths: (3 minimum) - Very tenacious in everything he does, therefore, he usually makes sure what he wants to happen will happen. - Jake is a very loving and caring person to almost everyone he meets. - Very loyal - Jake will never give up on those he loves, nor mislead them in anyway - once he's settled that's it, you'll know if he's not happy because he'll make it known. - Defensive and offensive magic - he's an Auror for a reason. - Flying - ex-international Quidditch star... - Good in the spot light.
Weaknesses: (3 minimum) - Jake is a very loving and caring person to almost everyone he meets. - Victoria. - Reading - Jake has never finished a book in his life. - His family. He'd do anything for them.
Positive traits: (3 minimum) - Known for his humour in most situations. - Always optimistic in everything he does. - It doesn't matter what time of day it is, Jake will always be there for you.
Negative traits: (3 minimum) - Homophobic. - Hides behind the macho man persona a little too much at times because of what is expected of him. - Expressing his feelings (though he is getting better). Just because his stomach is flipping because of something you've done, it doesn't mean he wants to talk about it!
Jake has always been something of an average Joe. He was brought up in a middle-class family, and in a stable living conditions. Throughout his life, Jake has had possibly only two focuses in his life, his little sister Victoria, and getting in to the one job he could see himself in - being an Auror. After he finished at Salem Institute of Magic, Jake had not gained his desired goal of being an Auror due to some complications in his home life that he doesn't discuss to this day.
But an opportunity had arisen three years later, and Jake had grasped it with two hands.
Before that, Jake had spent his time playing Quidditch at professional level, reaching the highest stage of International status and is therefore a world renowned celebrity. This brief stint in the limelight, however, has not gone to Jake's head, instead he has a vast wealth in investment portfolios as he strives to meet his real goal.

Father: Name: Henry Newbury Age: 63 (born July 1965) Living or Deceased: Living Blood type or Species: Halfblood Occupation: Improper Use of Magic Department, American Ministry of Magic
Siblings: Name: Victoria Newbury Age: 30 (born February 1998) Living or Deceased: Living Blood type or Species: Halfblood Occupation: Student
Ex-Wife: Name: Veronika Rae Hollands Age: 35 (when she died) Living or Deceased: Deceased (2025) Blood type or Species: Pureblood Occupation: Professor at Hogwarts

Name: Adrienne Newbury Age: Born 23rd September 2019 Living or Deceased: Living Blood type or Species: Halfblood Occupation: Child
The Newbury's aren't the wealthiest of families, but they don't go wanting. Henry has a respectable job at the Ministry in the Improper Use of Magic Department. Alexis busies herself with the cleaning of the house, as the Newbury's do not own a house-elf. Victoria attended the samed Muggle Primary School that her older brother went to, but like her brother, is now being home tutored.
The family own a small cottage at the end of the village, and have integrated well with the neighbouring Muggles, although a few of the older generations think there is something "wrong" with them. Mrs Newbury joins the other ladies for lunched every week, where they alternate houses to share gossip - something Victoria hounds Jake into helping her listen to so she isn't "left out" when she is old enough to attend.
All in all, the Newbury family are, what most people would call, an average family.

| People of Note to Jake Newbury Alexis Newbury*
Jake's mom - Born in 1967 - Married to Henry Newbury - Jake dotes on the woman more than he'll admit and wouldn't be half the man he is today without her either. Played by: Sandra Bullock Henry Newbury* Jake's dad - Born in 1965 - Married to Alexis Newbury - A man Jake has always looked up to as the man he would always like to become, strong, hard-working and loyal - or so Jake believes. Played by: Clive OwenVictoria Newbury Jake's younger sister - Born in 1998 - Jake absolute adores his little sister more than he can possibly say, she brings a smile to his face and is always buzzing with energy. Most definitely his remedy for feeling slightly blue should he ever need it. Played by: Victoria Justice Jake's girlfriend (though they have never really agreed on a label). Azalea is Jake's rock, after losing his wife, and trying to juggle two children, Azalea had offered her assistance without a second thought. Neither of them had been looking to rekindle their teenage relationship, but some things just happen for a reason. Played by: Navin Waqar Jake's eldest daughter (with Azalea) that he hadn't known about until she attended Hogwarts. Jake has very little contact with the child outside of his classes at Hogwarts due to (what he calls) ridiculous restrictions set out by the Clements. He would do anything for his daughter, but he is very aware that she doesn't have a clue who he is. Played by: Ivan Newbury* Jake's only son. He is a book nerd, more interested in being indoors than anywhere else. He is very shy, and does not deal with strangers well. Though they have very little in common, Jake loves his son fiercely. Played by: Corey Fogelmanis Adrienne Newbury* Jake's youngest daughter. Adrienne is playful, adorable, and the child he finds it easiest to get along with. He sometimes worries over her lack of interest in the 'girlier' things in the world, but he is quite sure there is a lot of time for that to change. Played by: Jake's first wife, and mother to two of his children. Veronika sadly died whilst searching for her missing sister in 2025. Played by: Kristin Kreuk Samar* One of Jake's old teammates, Samar is perhaps one of the best friends Jake made in his time at Moose Jaw Meteorite and they keep in touch now. Since leaving Moose Jaw, Jake's contact with Samar has significantly reduced, though they do text when Quidditch scores are of interest. Played by: Mohinder Suresh Drishti* Drishti is Samar's sister, and due to the friendship with Samar, Jake is also very close with his sister too. Since leaving Moose Jaw, Jake's contact with Drishti has significantly reduced. Played by: Anushka Sharma Callum* Callum is another of Jake's friends from Moose Jaw. They've always had a little bit of a rivalry in respect of women, but Jake always lets it go, knowing their friendship will always be more than just trying to beat each other to get to women. Since leaving the Quidditch scene, Jake has lost almost all contact with Callum. Played by: Orlando Bloom Mike Turnberg* Jake's best friend and fellow Belladonna whilst at school. Mike now works in the Quidditch industry as a commentator to a lot of games as well as reporting on sporting news in his free time. The boys only really speak via text / calls now due to their geographical distance, but they're close enough.Catherine Wright* Jake's sexual interest for many years whilst at school who grew to become something of a close friend after that interest ended. Currently working at Moose Jaw Meterorites as a Sports Therapist. Jake has not been in contact with Catherine in a very long time, but Mike has mentioned her from time to time. Played by: ElishaCuthbert

| Just something my Muse has been nagging me to write (albeit heavily toned down).
To say the beginnings of Jake and Catherine's relationship had started on smooth terms would have been a lie. No, Jake and Catherine were anything but close in the beginning. Both of them were at each others throats from the word go when they started at Salem Academy. The first day had been anything but plain sailing when the young Jake had made his way to the front of the sorting group. Even from a young age, Catherine had been pretty, and at eleven years of age, she knew it.
And boy had Jake agreed with her.
The only problem was Jake hadn't grown up yet, so thought it would be funny to steal Mike's frog and put it in her hair. During the Sorting ceremony. At eleven, Jake believed this was the right way to get a girl's attention. Unfortunately, neither Catherine, nor the newly appointed Headmistress had found the situation funny.
The first week of being at Salem, Jake had made an enemy of the prettiest girl in their year, lost twenty points for his new house, Belladonna, and earnt himself detention. Safe to say, he was not the most popular guy in the common room that week.*** "Oh, come on, Catherine! It's only a dare!" Lizzy whispered to her friend, looking at the boy sat the otherside of the room. "Or are you just too chicken? Everyone knows the tension between you two is going to burst at any point, do it on your terms!"
"There isn't any tension between us!" Catherine spat, glaring at her best friend. "It's just in your head!"
"Well, if there's nothing between you, this won't make any difference, will it?" Lizzy countered with a smirk.
"Fine. But, Newbury is an ass, everyone knows that!"
The girl had waited a day before going up to Jake, and when she'd found him, she'd pounced.
"Jake? Have you chosen your date for the ball yet?" She asked as Jake polished his broom to an impeccable standard.
"Yeah, Lucy Griffiths, fourth year." The boy told her. "Quite an achievement for a th-" She had already gone though, and Jake had shrugged and turned back to his broom. Honestly, girls were ridiculous at times.*** "Jake?"
The Belladonna looked up from his Quidditch Weekly magazine to see the girl who he fought with almost every day. The fight for the last say, biggest laugh, most friends, popularity. "Hello Catherine!" Jake replied, setting the magazine aside as he gave her his attention. "What's up?"
The blonde looked over her shoulder at her friends who giggled and encouraged her on. Jake continued to watch her, trying to work out what this was all about. "Cat got your tongue?" He teased, quite aware many people shortened her name to that.
"Oh, shut it, Newbury, you're not clever!" Catherine snapped, making Jake smirk at her.
"Aww, is Philip not moving on to second base with you?" The fourth year teased, watching her eyes narrow at the words. Her hands went to the chair's arms, and she bent over, her face level with his. It was just a shame she hadn't thought the whole thing through and more clothes.
"Philip and I are no longer dating, even you know that!" Catherine replied in an angry whisper. Jake didn't back down.
"Oh yes, he was cheating, wasn't her, with..." He looked at her for help, trying to remember the Wormwood's name.
"Stephanie."
Catherine's tone was one of indifference, she quite clearly wasn't upset with the break up. Nor was she fazed by their close proximity, as she didn't move away. Her overly strong perfume hung between them, a smell both over-powering and intoxicating in the same moment.
"My friends and I are having a party on Friday, in our dorm. We want you to come along, Jake." Catherine said, her lips brushing against his as she said his name. "Just you..." She told him as she kissed him lightly and walked away as if nothing had happened.
She hadn't waited for his answer, nor had she asked for it between then and the Friday. She had assumed that Jake would attend, and she had been correct.*** "And, where do you think you're going?" Mike asked as Jake went to leave their dorm, looking very smart in his shirt and best jeans.
"Just out." Jake replied. Everyone knew of the turmoil between Catherine and himself. Telling his best friend the truth right now would lead to more questions than he had time to answer. So instead he went for the quick way out. "A girl. You know."
Giving Mike a quick wink, Jake hurried out the door and up to the girls landing. Fourth years were the fourth door on the left, also the last door, so Jake hurried along and knocked on the door.
"Come in." Catherine called sweetly from behind the door. Jake followed the instructions, not sure what he was letting himself in for. But whatever was going through Jake's mind as he entered the dormitory, was not what he found on the otherside. Four girls in very expensive lingerie was definitely a dream. A dream that had just come true for Jake Newbury, and something his member would not forget for a long time.
"Jake, you made it!" Catherine squealed, getting to her feet and coming over to his position by the door. "Mouth closed, Jakey!" She whispered in his ear, pressing herself against him and smiling when she found what she wanted.*** The first time Jake had been in Catherine's bedroom would be the highlight of his sex life. Jake Newbury had explored things he'd never known possible, seen things not even magazines could show him. And he'd built bridges with the girl he'd been warring with for years.
It wasn't the last time Jake could be found in there on a Friday, it was the beginning of all things, Catherine. ________________________________________________~ Auror ~ Profile ~ DADA Professor ~ ~ In a Relationship ~ 36 ~ Father ~ 6' ~ American Accent ~

| Fuckin' Perfect
Made a wrong turn once or twice Dug my way out, blood and fire Bad decisions, that's alright Welcome to my silly life The school promised a week away for all the children at Eden Prairie Primary School in their fourth year. Victoria hadn’t been one of the children who had let the idea skip as she came home from school that day, thrusting the letter under her mother’s nose, and very sweetly asking if she could go on the trip. Alexis had looked at the permission form and the price and told her daughter that she would have to wait for her father to come home.
So the eight year old had gone to sit in the window and watch the driveway for her father’s car to come home. Henry could have gone in to work via the Floo Network if he so wished, but living in the Muggle area they did, they had to make sure they looked like a normal family. At ten past five, her father’s car pulled onto the drive, and the eight year old scrambled to the front door, in fear that something else would take his attention before she spoke.
“Daddy, daddy. Mommy said I have to ask you about this trip! You’ll let me go, right Daddy? You always let Jake go on these trips. He told me so! He said, ‘Vic, I won’t ruin them for you. One day you will go, and you can make your own memories. Then we’ll share.’” The youngest Newbury recited, smiling innocently. “Please, Daddy?”
Henry took the letter from his daughter and looked at the price. He frowned slightly, the Newbury’s weren’t the most well off family in the street, but they didn’t struggle. The look on his daughter’s face was not something he could say no to easily. “We’ll think about it, sweetheart.” He replied, coming down to her eye level. “You see, my little girl is losing her manners.”
“Daddy!” Victoria whined, hugging her father tightly. “Hello, Daddy. Did you have a nice day?” She asked with a soft sigh.
Henry chuckled. “That’s better, I had a lovely day.” He told her pulling her away from him and smiling warmly. “Now, have you been good today?” Victoria nodded enthusiastically. “Well, I’m sure I can convince Mommy to sign the form for you then.”
The brunette threw herself back into her father’s embrace, almost knocking him off of his feet. She squealed out her thanks and headed out of sight, to which Henry guessed she was probably going to ring her best friend, Amelia, to tell her the news.
Mistreated, misplaced, misunderstood Miss 'No way, it's all good' It didn't slow me down. Mistaken, always second guessing Underestimated, look I'm still around “Sunscreen?”
“Yes, Mommy.” Victoria replied, throwing the bottle in her suitcase.
“Sunhat?”
“Yup.” The eight year old replied, pointing to her head.
“Enough clothes? You’re not going to get too cold at night time?”
“I’ve got plenty, Mommy.” The brunette replied, packing her teddy bear and the picture of her big brother into her bag. “I’ve also told Jake that I’m going to be with Muggles this week, so he shouldn’t write. But, if he does forget, could you please send him an owl telling him I am on a school trip?”
“I’m sure he’ll remember, Victoria. But, likely there will be a letter for when you arrive.” Alexis told her daughter with a loving smile.
“It is Jake, Mommy, you know what Jake is like!” Victoria quipped, and both women laughed with one another. Jake had always been their cause for laughter, it was just how he was.
“Are you two going to sit and chat all day, or are we going to get this show moving?” Henry called up the stairs, Victoria quickly closed her suitcase.
“Just coming, Daddy!” She called, heaving her suitcase across the room. Henry met her at the door, taking the suitcase from her and looking to Alexis as Victoria headed downstairs.
“You still not coming?” He asked his wife softly, and she shook her head at him, the tears already welling up in her eyes. “She’ll be fine, Lexi. I promise you, she will be fine!” Henry told her, giving her a quick cuddle of comfort.
“It’s only a few days, and then she’ll be back. She’s not going to Hogwarts just yet.” He reminded her, kissing her lips quickly and heading out to the car and Victoria.
Pretty, pretty please, don't you ever, ever feel Like you're less than fucking perfect Pretty, pretty please, if you ever, ever feel Like you're nothing, you're fucking perfect to me The school bus was packed full of both luggage and kids, Henry looked up at his youngest child in the bus and waved, smiling warmly at her. He could see the excitement in her eyes, but he could also see the apprehension. The first time a child leaved their family for the bigger picture was always daunting. The memory of Jake’s first school trip made him smile; he’d played the tough guy all the way to the bus, and then clung to Alexis like his life depended on it. He’d told her profusely that he didn’t want to go anymore, through tears and sobs. It had changed when his best friend Peter had arrived, and they had gone off happily. Alexis had worried all week, and that was why she hadn’t come that day.
Victoria was different though. She was fearless, so unlike her older brother. She jumped into things, and it was always her that spurred Jake on when they were at home. And Jake, well, he could never say no to her. None of them could. The apprehension in Victoria’s face seemed to go the moment the bus clunked into action, her eyes went wide with excitement, she blew her father a kiss, and after she had waved, she turned to the girl sat next to her, and quickly struck up conversation.
*** “Amelia?” Victoria started as she turned away from her father. Amelia was blonde and shy, she looked like she was about to start crying again, well, before Victoria started talking to her. “I am so excited; I can’t believe we are doing this!”
The excitement burst out of Amelia then, and the girls fell in to a deep conversation about all the things they were going to do that week. They spoke about who they wanted to share a dorm with for the week, because they knew they would have to decide when they got there. They started checking they had packed the right things. It was, of course, too late if they had forgotten anything, but hopefully they would have all the things they needed between the pair of them.
“Vic?” Amelia asked and the brunette replied with a nod. “When does Jake get home? Boarding school is so rubbish!”
Victoria chuckled, Jake had been so prominent in everything she did, and everyone else accepted him as their friend too. “You know he doesn’t come back for another month, Amelia! Besides, we get all summer with him! It’s not his fault he’s so smart that he moved away!”
That, was the lie the family came up with. Although not all of it was a lie, Jake was clever, as far as Victoria was concerned. And he was sporty, and funny. Victoria was under no circumstances to believe anything less of him. Nothing less than perfect. That was her Jake.
“Do you think he’d help us build a tree house in the woods behind your house?” Amelia asked hopefully.
“Amelia, when has Jake ever said no to me?” Victoria replied with a raised eyebrow.
“Good point.” Amelia replied with a giggle, watching the countryside whizz past outside.
You're so mean when you talk About yourself. You were wrong. Change the voices in your head Make them like you instead. If anybody ever asked Jake if you knew when something bad happened to somebody you loved, he would have laughed at them and told them not to be so stupid. How could you possibly know that there was something wrong, just because you had a feeling? He had, of course, never expected such a thing to happen to him. Why would it? He was popular, the girls were somewhat fond of him, and he had gotten into the Belladonna Quidditch team. His marks were all together pretty good, he could improve, as could most people, but Jake wasn’t that bothered. So what could possibly go wrong?
The Monday, in which Victoria was going away, he had felt nervous. His stomach felt like it was doing somersaults inside him, so he’d decided to skip breakfast, in the likely case he couldn’t keep it down. Nobody questioned his lack of appearance and he made his way to Potions at the allotted time.
Professor Timms, their old Potions Master, had been intent on making them work hard, and pushed each of them to their limits with a separate potion for each group to make. Mike quickly scrambled to the desk next to him, knowing that they would likely be done earlier. Their Professor hadn’t minded and they’d been left to their own devices for the rest of the lesson. That was just how Jake liked it.
“Jake, my boy, great progress!” The old man said, slapping Jake on the back. The fourth year nodded in reply, watching the potion turn through many different colours as it was supposed to. Favourites weren’t strictly allowed at school, but when you were as old as Professor Timms, Jake guessed these things were forgotten, as many things normally were. The slap on the back coincided with a huge turn in his stomach and Jake doubled over, feel the nausea taking over his body.
“My boy, are you quite o-“ The Professor tried, but Jake cut him off as he wretched violently and threw up over the floor. Jake heaved again and the class fell silent, quite clearly watching him. “Right, come on. Mr Franks, if you’ll take Mr Newbury to the Hospital Wing for me, I’ll make sure someone else brings your homework, but you’re excused from the test on the potions.”
Mike didn’t even argue, picking up both his and Jake’s bags and leading his rather pale best friend towards their destination. Talking was kept to a minimal all the way there, stopping only to give Jake enough time to hold back the urge to be sick again.
That was the first time Jake knew that Victoria and him had something more to their relationship. Something he’d never believed in before that day. But that was only the beginning of the lesson in belief; the worst was yet to come.
So complicated, Look happy, You'll make it! Filled with so much hatred Such a tired game It's enough, I've done all I could think of Chased down all my demons I've seen you do the same (Ohh ohhhhhhh) “Mr Newbury, if you’d just listen to me for a moment?” The school nurse insisted as he brushed it away as being something he’d eaten and he’d just sleep it off for the umpteenth time. She wasn’t finished with him, it seemed putting herself between him and the door. He’d been in there for an hour, and had been sick countless times. The nurse insisted he stay, but wouldn’t tell him why he had to stay, nor offer him something to stop it.
“Madame Hart, honestly, I am fine. Please, just let me go.” Jake replied, trying to step round the Mediwitch.
“Mr Newbury, I really must insist you stay. Professor Evans has-“ The doors opened and the Headmistress walked in, her eyes looking at Jake and only him. Jake hesitated, taking a step back so it didn’t look like the situation was quite what it was.
“Mr Newbury.” The Headmistress started as Madame Hart went to busy herself with other patients. “Jake, I have some bad news.”
The credit went to Professor Evans for how well she handled the situation, Jake could read nothing from her face, and allowed himself to be ushered back to the bed he’d been given. The nagging feeling in his stomach made itself more announced as Professor Evans explained the situation to him, piece by piece. The ache in his stomach, the sickness, was nothing to do with eating bad food, or an illness. It became quite apparent to the fourteen year old then that there was a reason for him being sick, and the Headmistress had delivered the killer blow.
Pretty, pretty please, don't you ever, ever feel Like you're less than fucking perfect Pretty, pretty please, if you ever, ever feel Like you're nothing, you're fucking perfect to me The walk to the Headmistress’ office wasn’t one of familiarity to the fourth year. Blurred vision ensured that he would never remember his way ever again, either. His chest heaved heavily, trying to control the sobbing shook his body after each breath he took.
Professor Evans was talking to him, consoling him, asking questions. But he wasn’t functioning, he’d gone into shock, nothing made sense. This wasn’t supposed to happen. She was eight; he was supposed to look after her. She was supposed to collect her memories like he had. They were supposed to share it all together.
“I’m so sorry.” He mumbled through a sob, only to find himself in yet another hug from the witch by his side. The numbness had leaked through his body, and he didn’t react to her hug, merely resting his head on her shoulder and crying some more. More words that held no meaning rushed over his head. For the life of him Jake tried to listen, tried to find some hope, but he couldn’t.
The office opened up in front of them, anybody else would probably have taken in the office, try to figure out the woman who ruled supreme. All Jake saw were blurs of colours that he could make no sense off. The orange of the fire was easy enough to recognize when they reached the hearth, and clearer still when they turned green and Professor Evans pulled them both inside, naming their destination and holding the boy tight.
The whole world's scared, so I swallow the fear The only thing I should be drinking is an ice cold beer So cool in line and we try try try but we try too hard And it's a waste of my time. Done looking for the critics, cause they're everywhere They don't like my jeans, they don't get my hair Exchange ourselves and we do it all the time Why do we do that, why do I do that (why do I do that)? Disinfectant attacked his nose the moment everything stopped spinning. Strobe lighting made his head feel funny when he looked around. Where the fourteen year old was, he didn’t understand. She was…
The impulse to be sick over throw his senses, but there was nothing left inside him to bring up. He choked down the impulse once more, his hands reaching to wipe his eyes clear. His stomach churned again as the realisation hit him. “W-We’re in a Hospital…” He croaked as the door to the room they were in opened.
“Jake!” The sound of a woman petrified cut the air, and the next moment he was being embraced. Not the awkward embrace of a teacher, the embrace of his mother. “Thank heavens you’re here. Thank you for bringing him, Violet.” The voice that came from his mother wasn’t hers, it was strained, and the sound of footsteps assured the boy there had been a brief exchange that he couldn’t see and his Headmistress had left them.
“Jake…” His mother spoke his name softly; pushing him into one of the seats he hadn’t seen and sat down beside him. Their eyes met, the first time he’d managed to look at somebody since he’d been told the news. “Your sister-“
“I know, Mom.” Jake replied in a whisper, his voice quivering in the effort to stop himself from crying. “Professor Evans explained.”
Alexis shook her head, taking her son’s hands. “She’s going to pull through, Jakey. Honestly.” She whispered, fresh tears snaking down her face once more. “But…” The control his mother had shown just a brief moment before left as she broke down. But Alexis refused to be beaten by the situation and forced herself on. “But, she’s… she’s not going to be able to walk again, Jake. Do you… understand?”
A small nod was the only answer Jake could give his mother in reply. He knew what it meant; only a stupid person couldn’t understand that. “But she’s going to pull through.” He repeated, taking the one piece of good news and clinging to it as if it were a life line.
(Yeah!) I'm Pretty, pretty, pretty What everybody had neglected to tell Jake, was just how bad the accident had been. Perhaps he had been naïve in assuming Victoria would be awake when he was allowed to see her. Perhaps he had expected her to look exactly how she had when he left for school that year. For one thing, he hadn’t expected to see his little sister looking so broken.
Broken, yet peaceful.
It took all his courage to move across the room which she was in. He’d asked his parents if he could see her alone, and after a brief moment of hesitation, they had accepted. Inching across the room, Jake could feel his composure fading.
“Vic?” He called, still a little from her bed. His legs had stopped working, instead deciding to shake. A little progress at a time was all the Belladonna could manage as he took in his little sister. “I’m really sorry, Vic.” He told her, taking her hand in his own and kissing it softly. The chair beside her bed was the one her mother had occupied for the last three days. Three days had passed before his parents had deemed it okay for him to enter.
“I’d have come sooner. I tried, honestly I did. Mom and Dad were having none of it, though.” Jake told her as he took his mother’s seat and rested his arms on the bed. “I put too much hype of the trip, I realise now. A trip that really wasn’t that good not compared to what you can do at Hogwarts.”
Jake rested his head down on the bed, fresh tears flowing once more. All he’d done was cry since he found out; he didn’t know what else to do. Blame was the only other way he could deal with it, even though his parents told him it wasn’t his fault. “I’m s-sorry.” He whispered again.
“Jake?” The raspy sound of Victoria’s voice came from above him; he thought he was imagining it. The doctors said she’d likely be sleeping for days. “J-Jake?” The voice nagged again, making him look up. Eyes open and a nervous smile greeted the redness of his eyes.
“What are you being a pansy for, Jake?” Victoria teased in the rasping voice. Jake looked at her dumbstruck. She was supposed to be shocked, she was supposed to be anything but cheerful. But Victoria was always one to be abnormal.
“Vic?” Jake replied, smiling warmly at her and standing to give her a hug. “I should get mom, or dad or-“
“Jake, a glass of water please.” Victoria told him, holding his hand with as much force as she could muster so he wouldn’t go away. “I want a moment, with you first.” She told him as his shaking hands presented her with a glass of water.
Pretty, pretty please, don't you ever, ever feel Like you're less than fucking perfect Pretty, pretty please, if you ever, ever feel Like you're nothing, you're fucking perfect to me (You're perfect, you're perfect) Pretty, pretty please, don't you ever, ever feel Like you're less than fucking perfect. Pretty, pretty please, if you ever, ever feel Like you're nothing, you are perfect to me. Victoria Newbury could never be classed as a girl who was mightily different. She understood what had happened without being told, making the bond between her and Jake come into deeper question. She knew from the moment she woke up that she was no longer the girl who could do anything she pleased. She was now dependent on many people to do things for her. But she took it all with good grace.
“Jake…” She had started, once he’d sat back down, he’d leant forward on the bed, and her hand had moved to his hair, calming him as much as she could in the situation. “I know that I can’t walk anymore. No, don’t try and interrupt me, listen. I know I can’t walk anymore, but I don’t want you to treat me any differently, okay?”
Her face was stern, but Jake had no intention of treating her differently. “You’ll always be my little sister, Victoria, no matter what, you know that. You’re as perfect today as you were a week ago.” He told her and she giggled softly. A more fulfilling sound could not have been found.
“Then promise me something, Jake.”
“Anything.” The Belladonna whispered.
“Live your life to the full… for both of us.” The eight year old told him, far too wise for her age. “Don’t think of the consequences, just do what you want to do.” She told him, tapping the end of his nose with her finger. “Promise?”
“Promise.” He told her, and he never forgot that promise. Ever.________________________________________________~ Auror ~ Profile ~ DADA Professor ~ ~ In a Relationship ~ 36 ~ Father ~ 6' ~ American Accent ~

| Apparation Test - 21st August 2009 "Mr Jake Newbury"
The sound of his name being called out made the boy jump, even if the woman who called his name was anything but frightening. Jake had been off in his own little world, battling the productive thoughts of what he was about to do with those that weren't so productive. A week had passed since the azalea festival, and Jake had hardly stopped.
Learning to Apparate had taken over his life for the past week, and on the Saturday before the train left for Salem, he found himself in the Ministry of Magic ready to take his Apparition test. Standing up, the boy followed the small woman down the corridor and in to a room with two other people. He wasn't surprised by this notion, all those on the course had been fully aware of the conditions for the test. The woman took her seat and looked back at Jake with a warm smile.
"How are you feeling, dear?" She asked kindly, probably quite used to people being nervous and looking to keep him confident.
"Fine, thank you." Jake replied, going through the process of apparition once more in his head. Destination, Determination, Deliberation. Jake chanted in his head as he tried his best to listen to the instructions he was being given. It didn't help that his mind was swimming from the conversation from the previous evening still.*** "Jake, will you please tell me what's going on with you two?" Victoria asked as he tucked her in to bed. The Head Boy had sighed and sat down on the bed with her, trying not to get annoyed at her questions. It wasn't her fault that he didn't have an answer after all.
"I don't know, Vic. Honestly." Jake told her, leaning in to kiss his sister's forehead. "But, you need to go to sleep now, yeah?" He asked, trying to untangle himself from her cuddle. Victoria wasn't going to let go though, not until she got her answer. Or, at least an answer that she liked.
"You spent literally the whole time hugging her, Jake. Do you love her?" Victoria asked, searching his eyes for some kind of answer, because she knew that he probably wouldn't answer her question.
"I couldn't possibly love anyone, Victoria, you take all of my love for yourself. You know that." He told his sister, who merely scowled at him. "What?"
"You're making me sound like I stole all your love."
"You did." Jake said, teasingly.
"That's not funny, Jake. I want you to be happy. Azalea makes you happy, right?" Victoria asked, watching her brother go distant for a moment before he shook his head.
"Azalea and I... we're just friends, Victoria. She could never love someone like me." He whispered, finally pulling away from her. "We're... two different people." Jake concluded, hoping that was enough for the girl to tide her over until the next time she felt the need to ask questions.
"Jake..."
"Yes, Victoria?" Jake asked as he got to the light switch, ready to turn off the light and head for a shower after a long day at the Ministry. But, the boy would never have been prepared for what the girl did next. Slowly, she slid out an envelope and after a moment a photo appeared, black and white with some neat handwriting that he knew could only belong to Victoria.
"Mr Harrington sent this to me. I want you to keep it though. I'll ask him for another copy." She said, holding it between them to make Jake walk back over. He did, taking the picture of Azalea and him in his hand and studying it. The writing made him gulp slightly before looking to Victoria with a questioning gaze. "Good night, Jake." She said softly, closing her eyes as Jake tried to come to terms with the message on the picture.*** "Mr Newbury...?"
Jake looked up at the panel of judges, not even aware he'd had his eyes closed until he looked up at the woman who said his name. She was looking at him as if he was slightly odd, but Jake couldn't remember doing anything. But, that was when he realised he'd moved without even meaning to. "Did... I pass?" Jake asked, looking around him to see that he was perfectly okay, and just where he was supposed to be.
"Yes, yes you have, Mr Newbury." The woman said proudly, not making any comment on how the boy in front of her had been murmuring one girls name for the last couple of minutes whilst he tried to move from one spot to the other. Nor, would anyone see how something so off topic could help somebody, but for the boy in front of them it had. The woman hurried over with the papers and ushered him back in to the corridor, Jake was grinning from ear to ear as he reached in to his pocket and pulled out the photo Victoria had given him.
"Girlfriend?" The witch beside him asked him, trying to strike up a natural conversation.
"Uh... yeah, I suppose... She... Yeah." Jake finished, reading the words from Victoria once more."Perfection is overrated, but I can't think of a better word for you two..." ________________________________________________~ Auror ~ Profile ~ DADA Professor ~ ~ In a Relationship ~ 36 ~ Father ~ 6' ~ American Accent ~
