At the time her mother and father were divorced and her father's fiance, Tristian Hollands, had been the first to hold her. She grew up with two fathers and a very happy, obedient and curious child. She was healthy and content always. At ten years old she had a bad temper tantrum, however, when on a very bad day where her broomstick broke and her pet fish died she cried and felt so very powerless and small. She wanted deeply to have her fish bowl and opened her hands and her wishing was hard enough that from two corridors down where her parents were discussing what to do about the fish dead in a bowl in their room, the bowl flew to her in a nonverbal Accio and the rest was history. Her 'dadda' (Maxwell), however, took to it differently. Growing up, however, she didn't think any differently about them moving to England (when in reality they were moving closer so her dadda could be close to his pregnant fling). Instead she was excited for the adventure. She explored their large mansion in Manchester, England. Then she found out the real reason why they had moved, and couldn't bring it in her heart to hate her dadda. She promised to be a good sister to Gabriella if the need ever arose despite their separation. At 11 she was accepted into Hogwarts and greedily accepted it. She was sorted into Hufflepuff where she made a plethora of friends. However, she wasn't interested in house mingling so much, and could get shy around others. At seventeen she fell in love with a half-blood outside of Hogwarts when visiting her father's family in Germany. Ivan was a mercurial and introvert person that was drawn to her sunshine as she was drawn to his shadow; they were yin and yang. He moved to England to be with her while she attended a magical college, he attended with her. They lived in an apartment together in those years. However, for three nights every month on the dot. She never asked because in those five years he always explained it was too much of a touchy subject, however when she received a teaching degree at Beauxbatons and asked him to move with her and he agreed she decided it was time to find out. He still wouldn't tell her and so she stupidly followed him. As it so happens, Ivan had been a lycanthrope and because she'd been coated in perfumes from a party she attended that afternoon, he hadn't recognized her. He attacked her and when they both woke up he begged for forgiveness after he'd taken her to St. Mungo's. The scratch mark from her hip to her mid-torso had been pretty bad, but she was glad they were all easily to hide marks. She forgave him in an instant and they were engaged. Their love was for naught. After an eleven month engagement, Ivan begun to cough violently, fall into more dizzying spells, and one day around teaching in Beauxbatons Veronika realized he had been coughing up blood, freaked out and terrified she immediately took him to the medic. They had no answers, and when she took him to a muggle doctor, bad omens seemed to follow. He was diagnosed was terminal lung cancer with an undisclosed amount of time to live. Because she was a pureblood with enough money to live comfortably for two hundred years, Veronika supported him completely, she quit her job, and shed enough tears to fill the Pacific whenever she left the hospital. They were married by paper work and because of his bad relationship with his family, he took her last name. His funeral was full of her family, and their shared friends with a few of his rueful family members. At 27, Veronika had no clue what to do with her life so she spent a whole year with her parents, growing closer to them and her seventeen year old half-sister. Gabriella looks up to Veronika, for that she's grateful. At twenty eight, Veronika started teaching again at Beauxbatons, and she even started dating again. She's a flirty and fun person, who loves meeting new people, despite her quick temper that's gotten her in enough duels she's good to combat in. When it comes to longer term relationships, she's slowly getting there but she never gets too "intimate" with them for fear of what they'd think of her tattoos, and she doesn't wear things to expose her mid-riff. On her 31st birthday she realized after three years of teaching Dueling to Fourth and Above years at Beauxbatons and Transfiguration to First, Second and Third Years she wanted a change of location. Her anger can sometimes proceed her and her quick wit which comes off as rude at some times. Yet she never hesitates to extend a friendly hand. Seemingly happy since they were married right out of Hogwarts at the ages of 17, they pursued lives outside of each other. Rarely did they spend any time together. They lived in England until they were 20 when Harry Potter was born and their family patriarchs deemed it too dangerous to potentially start raising a family in the area, so they sent Maxwell and Alison to Great Barrington in Massachusetts. There they set up in the Wizarding Community and got a good foothold in teaching at the Salem Academy for Magic. Maxwell met the older by two years professor of Potions, Tristian Hollands, and fell in love. As he'd always been bisexual this wasn't unexpected. Unfortunately, at the age of 24 it is also when Alison became pregnant with Veronika Rae. He told Alison he would support her, but the witch with all her independence denied that term and instead opted to say that he would take full custody of the child and raise it after it was born and they would divorce immediately on grounds of adultery. Alison was not personally hurt by it as she was also in love with another back in England. Their families remained on mutual terms as the divorce harbored no bad blood. Tristian loved Veronika with his whole heart once she was born, as did Maxwell. However, all was still not happy sailing. When Veronika was ten and her magic was discovered, with his own bad past with magic as he was bullied for bisexuality, Maxwell panicked and at 34, he traveled to Germany where the Westmeisters had a strong trading foothold in magical artifacts. He spent several months there and impregnated Idna Faulter with Gabriella Rose, he told Tristian he wished to transfer to live in England to be closer to the French pregnant witch and also support this child. Although deeply hurt by his husband's infidelity, Tristian accepted this change in order to be a good parental figure for Veronika. At the age of 10, Veronika's half-sister Gabriella was born, but Idna had married Macen Rose and wanted nothing to do with Maxwell and moved to America. Crushed, instead he rebuilt his relationship with his family and it had never been stronger. When Veronika was 21, Gabriella Rose went to live with Maxwell to attend Hogwarts, which was just fine by her. Her and Gabriella have a good relationship, a strong one despite their many differences. |

| "Congratulations" DECEMBER 24, 2016 "You okay?" Beatriz asked concernedly, holding Veronika's shoulder length chestnut hair back with one hand, brows furrowed as she searched her best friend's weary face. "Fine, just fine," the Hollands witch bit out as she brushed her hair out of her face and forced a smile. Beatriz wasn't convinced however. "Don't think you can fool me with that smile, mon bichette, I know you too well." Beatriz said, she took a step back in the stall of the bathroom that they were crowded into. "What's really going on?" "What's going on in there, ladies?" Teresena Souvielle asked, her tone bored, from outside the stall leaning against the sinks. Veronika felt crowded; just a little panicked too. She'd been throwing up a lot lately, feeling moodier, more irate too. She knew Jake was being great about her moodiness, he experienced some of it right before her monthly, but overall she'd just not felt herself. And it was really bumming her out; for one thing, she had not been able to teach in what felt like eons because of those terrible illnesses just a few days ago, and then being put on bedrest and quarantined to make matters worse. She knew it wasn't totally her fault for getting sick, but it felt like misfortune was her best friend these days and she needed a pick-me-up. Thus the impromptu breakfast brunch in muggle London, her best friends came immediately, and a dinner later in the evening with her parents. She'd spent so much time with Jake, she didn't want him to feel like she was suffocating him so this small little breather with her girls and her dads, was a break she thought they'd both need. Gods knew she didn't intend to be kneeling on the woman's bathroom floor of a cute little restaurant with her one of her best friend's holding her hair back and the other casually making sure no one else would come in. "I- I don't know what's going on, maybe it's another stomach bug or something?" She provided hopelessly rubbing her stomach as she eased back onto her heels and off the porcelain throne. Beatriz rubbed her shoulders, and her temples, making the little headache forming dissipate immediately. "Mi bichette," Teresena began, "when was the last time you got your period?" Veronika froze completely. Beatriz gasped. Teresena let out an exhale. "Oh gods," Veronika began, her eyes wide as she stared at the contents of breakfast. You had a mimosa, her brain screamed, can you imagine what that must've done to the baby? Another voice in her brain added, you don't even know if there is a baby! Calm down woman. "I don't know," she felt vile build up in her throat and her eyes start to water, "I really don't." She closed her eyes as Beatriz pulled her to her shoulder and held her there. After a few moments, there was a creaking noise of the bathroom stall door being opened and suddenly there was a cup of water there before her. The tears had started to make her mascara run, and once she took the water, that same hand conjured a make-up wipe from an expensive bag. Teresena Souvielle hadn't been one to openly show so much concern, but it seemed that she had quite an awful lot as she too aided in running her fingers through Veronika's hair. "We need to find out whether or not your pregnant," Teresena said after a few minutes, "the sooner the better." She added at Beatriz's pointed glare. "It's not all so bad, Nika," Beatriz started to say with a small smile, she was already three months along although she had yet to show, "once the morning sickness passes, you just start glowing, and just imagine in a few months you'll have created life." She added in awe. Veronika said nothing, just took the information in with a reeling mind. They were so careful... The only way this could've possibly happened as that one party when ... She felt so stupid, so utterly stupid, but she just nodded. Veronika lifted her head to look up at her blonde mentor of so many years. Her eyes were trained on the kneeling girl. "Isn't a baby what you and Ivan wanted all those years ago?" Teresena asked with monotone ringing in her voice. "This is your chance, Veronika, not everyone is so blessed." She murmured. "Blessed," she repeated the word out loud, she closed her eyes and took in a deep breath. "You're right. I - I think we should go to a Healers' right about now." "We'll be right there beside you." Beatriz murmured kissing Veronika's temple as they rose to their feet. "Every step of the way if you need to as well." She added smiling brightly. "I love you guys," Veronika murmured as she stood. "I really do." .DECEMBER 2010 "Do you think you want kids someday?" Ivan had asked with half-lidded eyes as he ran his fingers through her waist-length hair.
"Maybe." She murmured as she trailed her own fingers over the scars on his torso. "Do you?"
"Yeah." Ivan answered smiling down at her, his blue eyes gleaming. "I want two at most; two girls." She scrunched her face up and pulled away teasingly.
"I don't know about two girls, don't you know how tedious they can be?" She asked incredulously. He shrugged.
"Yeah, but I bet you it'll be worth it." He paused before adding with a raised brow. "I take it that means you want boys?"
"Duh." She answered immediately with an eye roll. "They're so much easier to deal with anyway." He chuckled then and kissed her forehead.
"Fine, then we'll have two boys. Doesn't matter much to me as long as they're healthy and ours." She smiled, her eyes watering.
Veronika wished she could ignore the weariness in his eyes, the loss of hair on his scalp, the coughing the happened in various intervals, the vomiting, the crying, the non-stop need to make medicine; he was still fighting, but it wasn't going to be for much longer. She could feel it already settling in her bones. Soon she would be laying in this bed alone, holding herself alone.
"We'll have a healthy boy and a girl," she said loudly before burrowing her nose into his neck, letting her tears fly freely as she dug her nails into his back. "They'll be named - oh I don't know - Wyndel a-and Quin, and they'll grow up here in France, but they'll speak English too. They'll be loved wholly and totally by my fathers: spoiled rotten too. We'll raise them smart and maybe even athletic, except that doesn't matter because most importantly they'll be happy. They'll be loved and they'll be ours, Ivan. They'll be ours and we're gonna live until we're wrinkly and raisin-y and we'll be happy."
She hadn't realized he'd been crying too until she heard his voice.
"Yeah, that- that sounds good. No. Perfect. That sounds perfect."
.Positive. That's what Healer Joznay said, the woman from Canada that was apart of the Healing department for the Hollands. "You're pregnant, sweetie." Beatriz said gently rubbing her shoulders. .That night at dinner, after assuring Beatriz and Teresena she was okay, Veronika poked at the steak her fathers had presented her with wide eyes. Her fathers were verbally and clearly concerned, she'd turned down their expensive wine, whisky, and any other form of alcohol. She was drinking apple juice."You know," Veronika started, "when Ivan was still alive, in the last months of his life we started talking about children. We'd never talked about them until then; we'd always thought we'd have more time to get started. When he found out he was sick he brought it up tentatively before we really got into it and we decided that we really did want babies." "Veronika, baby, are you pregnant?" Tristian asked with wide eyes. "Yeah." .It took an hour to calm Maxwell down enough from going over and Kedava-ing them. "Dad, I'm happy I really am happy. I want this baby." She released his arm then and fell onto the couch with a happy sigh and a laugh too. "I want this baby." Relief flooded her system as she collapsed further into the couch. Tristian was at her side immediately while Maxwell composed himself by running his hand through his mussy hair and fixing his suit. "I'm still gonna kill him." "Dad no." .When Veronika got home that night, she stalled outside the door. She wondered how she'd go about it. Jake was younger than her, that was a big problem. They'd been together for a little over a year; she'd been drowning in happiness for over a year. What would she do if, Gods forbid, Jake decided he didn't want to raise the baby with her? Didn't want her anymore? All at the same time she knew those fears were unnecessary; Jake loved her. She believed that now. She had a couple more hours before Yuletide crept upon them completely and she'd already gotten him a gift; a watch from Maxwell's most expensive collection with a twelve page letter and a scrap book. She turned on her heel then and headed for the Tube. She texted Jake telling him she'd be home late, and relievedly arrived in Cambridge and a pretty store with glowing letters labeled "BUILD-A-BEAR". Efficiently with quick fingers she made the cheapest bear she could with a white tea-shirt and a record-your-own audio heart. She bite her lower lip and kissed its' forehead before heading out, her own heart racing. Before she opened the door to announce she was home, she took the honey brown bear out of the box and kissed its forehead, taking a sharpie out of her purse to write on the back. She squeezed the bear too; letting her voice screen through it. "Congratulations! Turn me around!" On the back of the bear, written in pretty scrawl it said: "I'm pregnant." . |

2018 UPDATE
Since joining the Hogwarts Staff as the Transfiguration and Dueling Professor, she's met the man of her dreams post-Ivan in the form of Jake Newbury, an Auror for the Ministry of Magic as well as the Flying and Defense Against the Dark Arts Professor. Jake and her met in Rome during a vacation, a romance she never meant to make last. However when they returned to school, they resumed their romance after some measure of hesitancy.
Within months of dating, they became closer through an Auror mission that left Jake incapable of taking care of himself. Following his slow recovery, she met his parents in a formal setting. After quite a while, they were defined themselves as a serious partnership. She even invited Jake to meet her parents. Upon realizing she was pregnant (scroll up to "Congratulations"), after a while Jake took it upon himself to propose.
Unfortunately, during her pregnancy, she gave birth to their child prematurely. She developed postpartum depression, following his birth. Soon enough, Veronika and Ivan's progression grew and now they're strong enough to live in peace.
