Marley Teel's Test Empty
PostSubject: Marley Teel's Test   Marley Teel's Test EmptySun Jul 16, 2017 3:57 pm

As Marley stepped in to the classroom, Jake stood from his desk, moving to the middle of the room and looking at the witch before him, he gave a small smile. "I'm glad to hear it, Miss Teel!" Jake told her, before motioning to the empty classroom. "Today, you will be working with me." He told her, trying to explain why they were all coming in to the classroom on their own.

"Your first challenge, Marley, is to disarm me and place me in a Full Body Bind."

The words were quite clear, but Jake gave the witch a few moments to comprehend the situation before they began. With that done, Jake moved back to his desk and took up his wand, turning to the witch and motioning for her to make the first move. It was a test not of simply disarming, but of Marley's capability to think on the spot. This was not simply a test of the disarming spell, or even the full body bind, but a test of persistence, and the ability to work in a small duel.

Important Information:
1. Whilst Jake is both a professor and Auror, he is obviously not going to make this impossible for his students to pass this stage. Jake will, however, push a student to work to their potential.

As I do not know ALL characters inside out, I am allowing you to GM Jake pushing the character to achieving as much as possible.

2. I will not accept a post that writes a successful take down in two moves. Unless you can come to me with a very good reason how your character can take down a talented Auror, then I will deem this unrealistic, and will not post part two of your test.

3. You are expected to write the duel yourself -- I will not be posting as Jake other than to give the next steps in this lesson.

4. Have fun with this, explore your character, and use this as an opportunity to explore their capabilities.

5. If you need a specific reaction/action/comment from Jake to push your character further, please ask me before you GM so that I can confirm as to whether this is something he would do.

6. If you have any questions, please ask!

Marley Teel's Test Empty
PostSubject: Re: Marley Teel's Test   Marley Teel's Test EmptySun Jul 16, 2017 9:28 pm

Marley smiled sweetly at the professor as he stood from behind his desk. She gripped her wand tighter as he stepped towards her, not sure what to expect. Her body relaxed just a touch as he started speaking to her. When he mentioned her first challenge she immediately started scrambling through her brain for disarming spells. Of course Expelliarmus comes to mind but, Professor Newbury would surely counter that easily. He was, of course, an Auror. She knew that anything she tried would be easily avoided by Professor Newbury but she also knew the test couldn’t be impossible.  She just needed to be creative…

When the professor motioned for her to begin, Marley started running towards the right flipping Expelliarmus charms at him over and over. Each one was, as she anticipated, easily dodged by the skilled Auror. A couple of times the professor shot a spell or two at her. The first one, a green streak of lighter, she narrowly missed with a jerk of her head. The second time, she had hear Professor Newbury's words and was more prepared. She yelled “Protego!” as she continued to run the outside of the room towards the right.

Marley stopped sprinting suddenly, aimed her wand towards the professor and yelled “flippendo!” but she wasn't even close. A portrait on the wall shot off and smashed against the ceiling with a loud crack. Marley flinched at the noise which had distracted her as another one of professor Newbury's charms smacked her wand arm perfectly. Her wand flew to the floor and slid away from her. Marley grunted in surprise and dove after her wand. She gripped it in her hand and rolled out of the way of another spell that cracked into the floor next to her.

She rolled to her knees yelling “Aqua Eructo!” and a pretty pathetic stream of water poured from the end of her wand and splashed the ground in front of her. She silently cursed herself and got to her feet. She started running again and yelled “Aqua Eructo!” a second time. This time the water shot out harder and she aimed at the professor's feet. Professor Newbury began slipping a bit, although Marley suspected it might have just been for show. She quickly yelled “expelliarmus” and watched his wand fly towards the back of the room. She grinned at herself and jumped atop his desk before declaring “Petrificus Totalus”

As the bind slapped the professor’s arms to his side and he fell to the ground, Marley let out of breath of satisfaction. She wiped the back of her hand to her forehead before unbinding the professor. A twinge of pain shot through her shoulder as the adrenaline subsided but nothing to bad. She shook it off and smiled at the professor, waiting for her next task.

Marley Teel's Test Empty
PostSubject: Re: Marley Teel's Test   Marley Teel's Test EmptyTue Jul 18, 2017 8:23 pm

Marley's efforts were good, and Jake played up to the spells she used. Of course, he'd over exaggerated in places, but he was duelling a child, he couldn't make this impossible for them. So, when the feeling the binding of his arms to his side, and his legs locked together, it came as little surprise before Jake hit the floor with a dull thud.

A few moments later, and the spell had been released, and Jake could feel his shirt sticking to him as he got up -- sodden from the water on the floor. Collecting his wand, Jake tidied the classroom and himself up before turning to the Hufflepuff. "Well done, Marley, great use of those spell combinations, and a successful pass of that test!" Jake told her, full of enthusiasm, as always.

"Your next challenge is going to be a little harder than the first. I'm sure you already worked that much out. So please, make sure you're ready before we continue, okay?" He insisted, before readying the next task for the young witch.

Flicking his wand around the room, a number of objects appeared behind Jake, some small, some large. Some heavy, some light. They wouldn't make much sense on their own, but Jake was going to explain before he set the Hufflepuff off on this task.

"You will know by now the Seize and Pull Charm. Many students will think that defending themselves will mean direct combat, however, this is not always the case. What we are going to achieve with this one, is to work through the objects, smallest to largest - getting quicker. You will need to use the Seize and Pull Charm to pull the objects from the air. Sounds easy, I know, but, we're going to do this whilst you also contend with water jets.

"The aim is to not get hit by the water jets, but also not get hit by the objects flying in your direction too." Jake explained -- of course, he would not allow his students to actually get hurt, on impact, the objects would turn to feathers, but they looked like normal objects to the untrained eye.

"Ready?" Jake asked with a smile.

2. The items being launched are open to your discretion, but I'm thinking a textbook, moving up to a cauldron, then maybe a table -- however, how big the object is depends on how well your character manages, once you decide on them failing, Jake will not launch another object in their direction.

3. You are expected to write this part yourself -- I will not be posting as Jake other than to give the next steps in this lesson.

4. Have fun with this, explore your character, and use this as an opportunity to explore their capabilities.
