Jake had, without a doubt, been itching to get back to Hogwarts for the new year. He still felt tremendously guilty for leaving his students just before their exams the year before, and really hoped they would forgive him for that - even if it would take some time.

However, there was not time to dwell on his personal feelings, for today was going to be something of a challenging lesson for both the students and himself. Hopefully they would enjoy this experience, because it had taken him a number of favours to get everything he needed for the lesson.

But hopefully, it would be worth it.

Turning to the board, Jake lifted the chalk, and wrote as clearly as he could (what with his not very neat scrawl) a single word. Boggarts. To many this was going to be a daunting lesson, but Jake knew first hand just how good it felt when you defeated one. With his classroom once again empty of desks, Jake took a seat atop his own and waited for the students to begin to file in.

Layla was excited to be back in Hogwarts, though she was also a bit nervous seeing as she was now known internationally. Wearing her Gryffindor robes and long hair loose, she walked into her first class of the year. Defense Against the Dark Arts. "Goodmorning Professor," she smiled before looking to the board. Almost immediately she wanted to reverse and leave the room. She did NOT want to deal with a boggart.

Layla was not aware of what the boggart would turn in to and she decided that she also did not wish to be aware. Taking a deep breath, the girl stood against the wall towards the middle of the classroom.

Trying to get her mind off of what the lesson of the day would be, Layla thought back to her summer. Her favourite performance had been her last one because Ethan had came to watch. It was special and Ethan had made it even more special. She wondered if she'd see him often this year and then she remembered that he'd be graduating this year and she frowned a bit. What was she do do without her best friend? Hogwarts would be so lonely and boring, she'd have no one to worry about.

With Professor Newbury not being at the last lesson, Finley knew that it would simply have to be that the professor was back. Otherwise, he was sure Naomi was going to be worried, and more than likely, he would have to go to Professor Jameson to find out what was happening. He didn't want to do the latter, but he knew that it would help Naomi if she knew everything, and the headmaster seemed nice enough.

Hurrying to the third floor classroom, Finley pushed the door open for his best friend and upon seeing the professor back, he let out a sigh of relief. Seeing Professor Newbury back meant that everything was back to normal.

"Hi, P-professor!" Finley greeted the man with a grin, giving his best friend a side ways glance to make sure she was okay. Then, noting another person in the room, Finley gave her a small wave and a smile.

Damien was excited. At breakfast, he couldn't focus on anything else and kept talking to himself about how good of a class that would be and wondering what they'd be studying today. He was going to have Defense Against The Dark Arts. That was his favorite class ever ! And he excelled at it.

While packing his books and notebooks for the class when he returned to the common room, he smiled of content. He had the feeling this class would be the best of all. It would be a great way to start school.

On his way to the class, he had his pen in his hand and was spinning it between his fingers like a drumstick while a smile was stamped on his face. He entered the Third Floor's DADA classroom and greeted the teacher with the same smile. Although, the happiness he was feeling was suddenly turned into anxiety by reading the content in the board. Boggarts. He breathed in and tried to look calm. He knew very well what his deepest fear was and he didn't think it was ready to face it. He placed himself near the Gryffindor student and gave her a small smile as a greeting as he patiently waited for the class to begin.

DADA seemed lke interesting lesson for Christina. She didn't know that much about spells because she couldn't practise magic before much since she did live in muggle London. Girl sighed awhile walking towards classroom whe she remembered her home. She didn't like think or talk about her home or family, she usually lies to people about it. She just is sick of people feel like she is so unlucky and so on.

She soon walked into the classroom and walked to other side of room. "Hello," she said. Girl did lean on the wall there and looked up to the board. She did read words on there and wondered exactly what they gonna do there now. She knew what was Boggart basically and she thought what could be hers. She sighed and looked around the classroom with her eyes. Most students here seemed to be bit older than her. She hoped if they see her boggart they won't feel pity towards her.

Waiting patiently for students to arrive, Jake greeted each of them with an inviting smile and a soft 'hello'. Jake's method of teaching had always been practical, so there were never normally desks in his room, of which most students would understand. Waiting until the clock struck the hour, Jake gave the students time to settle.

"Right." Jake called across the room a moment after the lesson started, clapping his hands together to get the attention of the room. "Welcome to Defence Against the Dark Arts. For those of you who are new, my name is Jake, and I really don't expect you to call me professor." He explained, because he really didn't like the formality of that title. "If you need anything outside of lesson, please send me an owl, and I will do my best to help you in any way I can. But, for today, shall we begin?"

The question was, of course, rhetorical so a moment later he was moving on. "Today we will be looking at how to deal with Boggarts. I don't think..." Jake paused, surveying the room, before continuing. "That I have taught this to any of you before, so this will be an experience that I hope you'll all take something away from. But, before we jump in to the practicalities of today's lesson, lets start with some theory.

"Who can tell me something about Boggarts? What they look like, where they are commonly found, how to deal with them, anything you might know?" Jake asked, looking around the faces for an answer.

Damien hesitated but ended up raising his hand, in order to answer the question. He had heard of Boggarts before. And just the thought of facing one terrified him. He imagined what kind of form his worst fear would take, since it wasn't a being or a creature or a person but an emotion, or rather, a feeling.

But being afraid of the practic part wouldn't stop him from answering the theoretical one. He kept his arm up and waited for the professor to pick him to respond.

He took quick glances at the book when he was in the dorm room and the Boggarts page awakened his curiosity when his eye caught the word ''fear''. He read the page and made a bit of research in the library, only to find that if they had one of those classes, he would be terrified and that class was today.

After being called upon, Damien took a deep breath and answered ''Boggarts are shape-shifting creatures that take the form of the opposer's deepest and darkest fear. They usually hide in dark and confined spaces''

"Correct, Damien!" Jake replied to the Ravenclaw who had answered the question that had been posed to him. "Take five points for Ravenclaw." He added, making sure everyone knew that participation would be rewarded in this class.

"Now, to combat a Boggart, you need to turn your fear in to something funny. Make it comical. A Boggart can be defeated with laughter." Jake explained, making sure everyone was listening. "Now to make it change shape, you will need to use the incantation, Riddikulus." Jake explained, looking around the group.

"I do not expect you to manage this first time, so please don't be disheartened if you can not do it. Everyone, please create a line, and then one by one, step forward to have a go." Jake explained, motioning for them to line up before the trunk that was in the room.

"There is a chocolate frog for everyone who attempts this on my desk, in case you need a little encouragement." Jake added with an amused smile, waiting for them each to take a turn.

OOC: Please be realistic in your attempt at tackling a Boggart. Points will not be taken off for those who cannot do it, but points will be added for creativeness in the writing.

Once someone has had a go, you need not wait for me to reply (as I am away) please just keep going.

But most of all, have fun with it!

DADA - Lesson One (First - Fourth Years) Empty
PostSubject: Re: DADA - Lesson One (First - Fourth Years)   DADA - Lesson One (First - Fourth Years) EmptyThu Sep 17, 2015 1:11 pm

Alberi definitely wasn't in the best mood. His ‘summer vacation’ had been anything but relaxing, the only good part was the week when he was in Diagon Alley. He couldn't even been nonstop on a computer, having to take care of his blasted sister at times. And she just wouldn't stop to cry, waking the whole family up at times in the middle of the night. Could it be worse, now he had a tan. Yes, the pale Alberi Woodston had a tan. Even with a newborn at their hand, his parents somehow manged to go to the beach as well. Meaning Alberi had to be dragged along with them, even though the only thing he did was read under an umbrella while keeping his shirt on all times. But his mother forbid him to take a book with him and didn't take an umbrella. There sadly wasn't the problem with the sun burning them as they could only be there when it was weakest, because of the baby in the family. So, Alberi was forced with a tan.

That defiantly didn't help him feel optimistic or happy and he arrived at Hogwarts feeling rather horrible. He hardly ate at the Welcoming Ceremony and didn't even pay attention to who was sorted where. Afterwards he just feel asleep.

But now he was running late. The reason was that Alberi was trying to hide his tan. He put his uniform as high up as he could to hide his neck and even put on gloves. He cursed he wasn't a girl, then the long hair most females had would have done a good job hiding his face. But for now he would have to deal with the hair he had now.

Suddenly he saw he was late and broke into a run. Why was he always late for the first lessons here... Once he got lost, now this tan... He wasn't waiting for his next year here. And why was he such an awful runner... He was sure that on the next turn he could bump into one of all the hundred of magical things at this school and get even more late. Happily that didn't happen and he appeared at the class room in no time. Sighing, he opened the door just to hear the end of what the teacher was saying. Why would they need a chocolate frog... “Excuse me for being late, professor. May I come in?” He asked, not wasting his breath to explain why he was late.

Naomi walked to one of her favorite classes with Finley, talking with him about what they might cover this year. She was glad to know that Professor Jake was back, relatively unharmed, and she smiled and greeted him as the pair of Ravenclaws entered, standing with the rest of the crowd to wait for their practical lesson to begin.

While the topic wasn't one she particularly liked, Naomi knew that boggarts were an important creature to learn to face, so she took a deep breath and stepped forward towards the lightly shaking cabinet. She didn't really know how the boggart was going to become an entire crowd, but she guessed she was about to find out.

The door to the cabinet creaked open and people flooded out, yelling and surrounding her quickly, jostling her back and forth. "R-Riddikulus," she gasped, but nothing happened, the people just pressed closer. She gritted her teeth and tried to force back panic. "Riddikulus," she said, a bit more strongly. Suddenly, the people were stuck to the ceiling, dressed in ridiculous costumes and running around in a panic, thankfully nowhere near her. Naomi managed to crack a small smile before stepping back hastily to let someone else trying, careful to stand far away from the other students.
