Lesson One: Duelling & Strategy (ALL YEARS) Empty

Veronika brushed a stray strand of hair from her face. Her new fringe was becoming increasingly annoying that was for darn sure. She liked it though, also it made it easier to stop the pain that came from Ivan's strong tugs. Her baby was strong, and good golly did it hurt when he tugged hard. She had plans to cut the rest of the length too; in due time, however. She smiled at the students that greeted her as she walked through the halls. She'd spoken to some older girls about Ivan, got to talk to some Professor's too.

She had just handed Ivan back to Jake when she made it back in time for her Duelling class. She combined all the years, like her Transfiguration class for conveniency in order to avoid needing a nanny to watch Ivan while she worked. She straightened out her shirt as she sipped on her other cup of coffee.

"Good morning," she said in greeting with a broad grin, "now I want to get to the thick of it. Get used the arrangement of a melding of different years, because it will be this way for a while." She added.

"Can anyone tell me the first to third rules of a proper duel?" Veronika asked standing straight.

PostSubject: Re: Lesson One: Duelling & Strategy (ALL YEARS)    Lesson One: Duelling & Strategy (ALL YEARS) EmptySun Jan 03, 2016 12:14 pm

Max was getting used to the school very slowly. There were so many distractions. Like the ghosts, Max had never seen a ghost before, and Nearly Headless Nick was amazing - well, except for that time that he'd floated through Max, he hadn't liked that, but Nearly Headless Nick had apologised.

Then, there were all the places you could explore. He was finding so many different routes around the castle just by going the wrong way on purpose.

So far, Max had not been late to lessons, mostly because he'd been making sure he wasn't. He wanted the professors to like him, and thus he'd made a great effort to get on their good side. It was, however, very exhausting.

Today, his lesson was Dueling. Taught by a Professor Hollands. This man was going to be impressive, of that much Max was sure. Hurrying through the door, Max stopped in his tracks when he saw a lady. "Awesome! I thought you were a man. But you're not, you're a lady. That's so cool! I'm Maximillian!" Max told the witch, grinning up at her as he made his way to the front of the class.

Waiting for the others to fill in, Max simply studied Professor Hollands with awe. She was the first female teacher he'd had, and he was excited to see how she taught her lessons.

"Can anyone tell me the first to third rules of a proper duel?"

Dueling... rules... Max wasn't fond of rules. But, he thought very hard about the question, trying to remember anything from the small amount of reading he'd done - Dueling was perhaps an exception to his not reading, together with DADA because those lessons were cool. "Don't you have to... umm..." Max paused for thought, trying to get his own ideas in to line. "You have to turn to someone, and be like..." Max changed his voice to be a little more gruff. "'You're not very nice, we shall fight!' to start it? I can't remember what you call that..." He explained, looking up at the professor hopefully.

Elyah was still not used to this place. It was too big, too crowded and too... Hogwarts. Things were just happening too fast for her liking, actually. She never liked fast changes, and this... this was killing her.

From one moment to the other, she went from being a normal girl, a witch. She had to come to this school, while her mom could completely forget about her and go on with her life, and she had to adapt to rules, people she didn't like but had to see their faces every darn day, and Professors she had to impress.

Oh, she couldn't forget that bloody cat either, could she?

Oh, and its owner too.

Checking her schedule, the only thing she was getting along so far, she saw that it was Dueling time. Dueling? Like.. actual fighting? Elyah loved martial arts, so fighting was probably the best thing she could do. She knew how to defend herself, and now she was going to learn how to fight with magic!

Smiling, she stepped into the class, and when she saw that her Professor was actually a woman, her smile turned wider. "Hello, Professor! So glad there are women here too!" She then scanned the room, and saw... Max.
A part of her wanted to roll her eyes and leave, but another part screamed that she had been terrible to him so far and that she could at least try being nice.

Making her way through the room, she smiled and sat down next to him, waving a bit. It sure looked weird but... hell, she could try it!

Professor Hollands was now her favorite professor. Why? Hailey understood her. Her teaching styles just clicked. Which was why Hailey took on Dueling. She didn't particularly need the subject, because Hailey was perfectly fine with her wand, but she also felt that a little extra practice wouldn't hurt either. She entered the class and the Professor had already started teaching. Hailey nodded to the other students in the room, not recognizing any of them, and thankfully none of them being Benny. Either she was getting good at avoiding him, or he was avoiding her too.

When Professor Hollands was talking, Hailey actually didn't know the answer to the question, so she kept quiet and let the Gryffindor boy attempt to answer. She giggled a little bit. He was rather pathetic, but hilarious at the same time, and it kind of made Hailey's day. She was sad she didn't know the answer and couldn't get Slytherin some points.

There she was.... The girl he had seen in almost every class he had been in. She had beautiful dark skin, and deep black eyes, and beautiful hair. Oh her hair. Alfie just wanted to go up and touch it and run his hand threw it, but Cooper had said to shut up and that he was weird. Alfie tried to ignore his feelings about the girl, but the more she talked, the more entranced by her he was. Alfie was excited to find out that she was in fact in Dueling class as well.

Alfie wanted to approach her. But being his shy sensitive self, he was scared to. The questions lingered in his head, "What if she didn't like him back?", and "Did she even know he existed?" Probably not. He was in Ravenclaw, and she was in Slytherin. Two completely different worlds. She probably wouldn't give him the time of day, and that made him sad. He listened distracted as other students where answering the questions. He hoped his day got better, and his thoughts about the girl went away. Otherwise his life was surly to be over.

Lux made her way to the duelling classroom, feeling slightly better. Besides DADA and flying, dueling was probably the only other class that she could tolerate and perhaps even enjoy a little. After all, it required fighting and where there was fighting there is bound to be injuries and wounds and where there were injuries and wounds, there is bound to be blood and pain and suffering and all that other good stuff. She smirked. Oh yes. Dueling wasn't so bad.

She entered the room and gave the professor a curt nod before making her way to the back of the classroom and seating herself. Just as she was wondering what they would be doing, the professor spoke and Lux grinned when she heard the question. She knew the answer. It wasn't because she was studious. Oh definitely not. It was because it was something she was interested in and therefore something she wouldn't have overlooked or forgotten. It was also something she needed to know to be able to cause other people pain. And it was something she had done before. More than once. Besides, it was rules and the only reason she memorized rules was so that she could break them.

The Gryffindor voy spoke - stuttered more like - and Lux didn't bother hiding her scoff. She was polite enough to wait until he was done before raising her hand.

"I think what he," she cut her gaze to the boy pointedly, the blubbering idiot she added mentally, "is trying to say is that the first rule is the challenge," Lux replied. "The second rule is to have a second, someone who is your friend and who will fight on your behalf if anything happens to you. And then there is the limits - only magic, no touching or any other terms the duelists set," she ended with a satisfied smile.

Duelling. Lucy couldn't decided whether she loved or hated the subject. The biggest issue that she had with it was that it involved spells flying towards her face. Lucy was undoubtedly vain, so even the smallest risk of her face being permanently messed up really put her off the subject. And she thought about that way too much, whereas a normal person probably wouldn't worry until the unlikely event occurred. In fact, she'd only taken it up to appease her older sister, who had insisted on Lucy learning to defend herself rather than relying solely on others. But, for the moment, she was okay. The class was mixed, so the couldn't really have outrageous duels when there were potentially first years who had no knowledge of magic. And the subject title suggested theory work, so in that case, she focussed on what she had read. She found her seat and skimmed her notebook.

Duelling was perhaps a favourite of Violet's. She enjoyed the thought of getting graded with how well she could injure others. Perhaps she enjoyed thinking about that a little too much for a normal person…

But alas, the class was mixed with younger students, and so it was unlikely that this lesson, they would be actually duelling, which seemed to be a rather big disappointment to Violet. She went regardless, merely because it would aid her final mark in the subject.

She arrived and saw that others had arrived before herself, and scanned the classroom for an empty space. The teacher asked about the rules of duelling, and some other person that Violet took no notice of answered. It was clear now that they would be discussing strategy. To Violet, that was simple. Cast when they're not ready, and keep the spells quick and cruel. The aim, for her, was to win, always.
