| 11a. You decide to go with the potions table. Once there, you pick up the parchment and read the instructions. It describes a potion that allows you to breathe underwater! It will take about an hour to brew, which means you will be delayed by some time, but it is an easy potion and not one that can be messed up easily, so there isn’t much chance of it going too wrong.- ”The instructions for brewing is:
1) Measure out 1500mL of standard potioning water and bring to boil
2) Once water is boiling, add three drops of morning dew
3) Let boil until potion is dark blue
4) Once potion is dark blue, add one lionfish spine
5) Stir counterclockwise four times
6) Add three pinches of octopus power
7) Slowly stir counterclockwise until light brown
8 ) Stir clockwise five times
9) Let boil for another five minutes
10) Turn off heat and add one teaspoon of dried seaweed powder (the potion should turn dark green)
11) Stir counterclockwise twelve times
12) Allow potion to cool, stirring it clockwise three times every two minutes
13) Once cool (no heat is felt when hand is placed above potion) add three sea serpent scales
14) Stir twice counterclockwise
15) Stir twice clockwise (upon the last stir, the potion should lighten in colour)
16) Remove one cup worth of the brew
17) To the cup, add one drop of diluted sea serpent venom
18) Drink the entire cup
If the potion was brewed correctly, the potion should taste like dried seaweed and be slightly spicy like pepper. A tingling sensation should be felt throughout the body and vision will be slightly blurry for a few minutes before clearing up. The skin should also feel slightly rubbery (this is the insulation).
What do you do?
a) Brew potion (write the successful brewing of potion in your post to continue) b) Go over to Investigate the mysterious jar under the stump instead

| Picking up the parchment, Sienna glanced at the instructions and scoffed. It was a tedious potion, taking some time, but ridiculously easy; she could do it with her eyes shut if need be. It was also one that meant her clothes wouldn't get wet, and she smiled at the solution provided. Gillyweed was not even on her list of possibilities, and, pulling out a simple overcoat jacket from her bag (which was, naturally, charmed with an undetectable extention charm), she slipped it on to avoid getting her shirt dirty and got to work.
It was a piece of cake, really, and she allowed instinct to take over as she measured out the water, sitting back and letting it boil. After that, she dropped the morning dew in and, as she let it boil, prepared the other ingredients -- she set aside the octopus power, the lionfish spine, the seaweed powder, the scales, and everything else needed, laid out in order.
The entire time she kept an eye on the potion; the moment it turned dark blue, she dropped in the lionfish spine and stirred it four times, counterclockwise. Grabbing the set-aside plate of powder, she emptied it in and stirred until it turned light brown.
Technically speaking, Sienna knew a short cut to this potion, a way to speed it up while retaining the effects, and for a moment she was tempted to do just that -- alter it. But she also knew this was a game, and in games, one played by the rules. It wasn't fair otherwise, and so, with a shrug, she stired it clockwise, and set a timer.
The moment the five minutes were up, she emptied the teaspoon of seaweed into it and stirred it as requested. Now came the tedious part, and she pulled her phone out of her bag, plugging in a pair of good headphones while she waited for the potion to cool.
A good while later, when it was finally no longer warm, she dropped in the scales and stirred it. Satisfied it was done, she dipped the cup in, drawing out the potion and carefully adding a drop of the venom. It had been pre diluted, which was a shame; the effects were so much better when the full potency was used. But still, she understood this was for younger years as well, and safety first -- although safety was, in the end, boring.
Smiling to herself, she downed the cup. Seaweed wasn't bad, and the spice added a nice flavour to it; it was a snack she would buy every-so-often in the muggle world. All that was left to do was see if it worked -- which, Sienna was certain, it would. |

| 13a You finish brewing the potion and drink it. It seems to take effect and you leave the hall through the door, making your way down to the Black Lake. Reaching the shore you look around and notice there is a sign post that has never been there before. Beneath it is a locked box. The sign post explains that the box is magically locked and can only be opened with the key -- which is located somewhere in the marked out section of the lake.
It goes on to tell you that there are three areas for you to explore. The first is the kelp forest. The second is a rock pile. The third is a small cave. It ends wishing you luck and adds that if you run into trouble to shoot red sparks from your wand; the merpeople on standby will assist you.
You enter the water and find that you don’t feel cold nor do your clothes get wet. You start to swim downwards, and soon find yourself facing the decision of which area to search first.
Where do you go?
a) The kelp forest b) The rock pile c) The small cave

| Almost instantly, she could feel the effects, and made a face at the tingling sensation. She hated it, but she knew that meant the potion was right. Instead of heading out, she waited for the blurriness to pass and the full-rubber to set in before leaving the room and heading towards the lake.
The sign post was easy enough to spot, and she rolled her eyes. There were many ways to get around a box that was magically locked -- non-magical and magical -- but she was certain this was not the right time to be showing off her knowledge. It was irksome, since she could so very easily save time, but rules were rules, and a game wasn't a game without those.
So, without a second glance back, she dived straight into the water, wand drawn. She reached the bottom in seconds and then paused, looking around. It was a game of luck, now, and Sienna hated that. The key could have been hidden almost anywhere. Despite knowing it was probably futile, Sienna raised her wand and murmured, "Accio key!"
Nothing happened, and she smiled wryly to herself. She had expected it to be charmed, but there had been no harm in trying. Now she turned her attention to what was before her.
The kept forest would definitely be a difficult place to search, what with the amount of seaweed there. Considering she didn't know what they key looked like, she would have to search rather carefully, and with the vastness of the kelp forest, that would take time.
She moved her gaze to the rock pile. Again, not knowing the size or colour of they key (although she could guesstimate from the lock she'd seen on the chest), Sienna knew it would take much longer than it seemed to search the pile, despite it not being an overly large area. It was the smart place to hide something, considering the nooks and crannies made it difficult to find anything.
The cave seemed like the smart option. It wasn't too large, meaning it should be easy enough to search. Looks could be deceiving, though, and Sienna hesitated for a moment. There was something about it that didn't feel quite right, and she'd learnt to trust her instincts. Still, though, it seemed that it would be quicker than the other two, and so, gripping her wand and raising it to a defensive position, she swam slowly towards it.

| 16a The cave is what you decide on and you swim towards it. It’s badly lit and small, and you take a moment to adjust to the light. Something glimmers at the very back. You just manage to make out the shape of a key hanging on the wall! It seems that the cave was the smart choice, and you move forward to take the key. Suddenly, something darts out from a small crevice hidden at the back.
It’s a small creature, green in colour, long tentacle like fingers moving around it. It’s a grindylow! It bears its teeth at you. The key seems to be under its protection. If you want it, you have to fight it. As you prepare to do so a second thought hits you -- you could always ask the merpeople for help.
What do you do?
a) Fight the creature yourself b) Ask the merpeople for help
