"Please be careful mon amour" Angelique called out to her granddaughter as she prepared herself to go out.

Tess tried to look annoyed, but as a small smile rose from her face as she got ready. This was the first week that her father allowed her to go off to spend time with her grandmere. She tried not to be too happy when she was informed, but she felt a spring in her step. The moment she had seen her grandmother, she hugged her tightly and it was in her embrace that she felt safe.

Now she was allowed to go out. She had missed the streets of Paris even during the muggy weather. So she did what was expected; she slipped on a simple dress, a white dress with sunflowers a sunhat, and her simple flats. A kiss on her cheek was all she got as she was left to her own devices without a chaperon. In any other time she would have a maid follow her, but her grandmere now trusted her.

So she went on a sunny day walking through the streets of Champs-Élysées, through the magical side walking through the shops and wondering what could entertain her. She looked disinterested at most things, but something caught her attention. It was a couple clearly in love; it was a weird feeling; seeing two people enraptured to one another. She tilted her head curiously as the man was delicate against his partner. That was...that was nice.

Briefly her mind went to the thought 'Do I want that?' It was a weird thought.

Janet ran a hand through her hair as she looked in the mirror. She wrinkled her nose at her cut-off t-shirt and tight jeans. What she really needed was some nice Paris shopping. A couple sundresses, a pair of pumped sandals or two, something that she could wear around the beautiful city other than just skinny jeans, which (quite foolishly on her part) were the nicest clothing she had thought to pack in her tiny suitcase.

She combed, then braided her hair quickly and tied it off with a little ribbon. She nodded at herself in the mirror, ready to begin her pursuit of Paris-worthy clothing. She grabbed a small purse with her wallet in it and whisked out of her room, a huge grin on her face. The rumbling of her stomach as the elevator lumbered towards the ground floor of the hotel told Janet it may be a good idea to grab lunch while she was out.

Moments later Janet was walking down Champs-Élysées, grinning and looking around at all the building and shops around her, eyes peeled for an ideal restaurant or boutique. Her eyes lit up even more when she saw a familiar face in the crowd. It was the girl from by the lake!

"Excusez-moi! Mademoiselle? Tess?" She called, walking towards the girl and waving with a grin.

Tess didn't know what came over her, but seeing the couple twisted something in her stomach. It was not longing; for she told herself multiple times that she knew well enough that love would never be something that came her way. She knew that it wasn't jealousy; jealousy was not a foreign thing, but it was never because she lacked anything. Things were easily purchased and if she were to believe her father, then made the problems fixed. She believed it was her heart, for a short moment letting her imagine what could be. Imagine the freedom of being able to express such emotion? It was a daunting thought.

Still, she moved away before her gaze would be improper and continued walking. She smiled shyly at a few storekeepers that knew her well; even as a small child, her grandmere would take her everywhere making her a little socialite as a child. Everyone who mattered knew each other and it was a polite and distant respect.

It was as she turned to go to the jardins that she heard someone call out to her. No one really dared speak to her directly in the area. Not because she did not want it, but rather because they knew that often times seen as improper or time wasting. For a brief moment she even imagined the paparazzi. Usually they wold leave her alone, but now that her brother was a face at the ICWW, and being so young, lead to them being hungry to learn more about everyone.

But as she turned and gave a false smile, she realized it was a classmate of hers. A small flicker of surprise was expressed before a more sincere expression took over.

"Good Afternoon Janet. I'm surprised to find you here" she greeted politely. "What brings you to Paris?"

Janet made her way to Tess, grinning. "Bonjour à vous aussi." Janet said, quite happy with the progress she was making with her french. "I'm just here on a vacation, though I'm planning on staying a slight bit longer than I first anticipated. This place is just so beautiful." She had planned on staying for only a week but decided to extend the vacation slightly, so one Sierra Stark could help teach her French without the trouble of having to learn the basics over mail. She figured he would stay until she knew the basics and then leave the rest to mail.

"I hadn't expected to run into you here either. I thought you lived in London?" Though then again, what did she know? She hadn't even thought to buy proper French clothing the whole time she'd been here.

Janet herself had been surprised when her parents had allowed her to come to France. While she had been dreaming of it her whole like Janet had never really been anywhere outside of Hogsmeade, Diagon Alley, and Hogwarts, especially not without her parents' supervision, so when they had allowed  Janet to come to Paris (as long as she called every day) and even paid for her flight and hotel, she been overjoyed. She had grabbed her travel jar, filled with money she'd been saving since she was little, and threw together a suitcase.

At the greeting, in French no doubt, Tess smiled shyly. It was nice to see that someone was actually trying to fit in. Most people would push through and force their own norms on the people they visited, but not Janet. That was something Tess appreciated very much.

If she was honest, she was surprised to find the young witch here in an environment completely different from what she was used to. But if she was fair, she couldn't really imagine classmates in her outside world. Yet Janet's reasoning to Tess made sense. Paris was a beautiful city, and it's surrounding departments were charming as well.

"Paris is indeed beautiful, and I do hope you enjoy yourself" she commented off handedly as she was given a bouquet of flowers. She did not question it knowing that her grand-mere had ordered them but a few hours before for their dinner.

"I hadn't expected to run into you here either. I thought you lived in London?"

Her question made Tess laugh softly as she handed a few galleons to the fleuriste. Turning to face her she wondered if her fellow Slytherin was joking, but when the punchline never came, Tess knew she should expand on it.

"Oh mon amie, you don't know? I was born here" she giggled slightly. "Remember, I transferred to Hogwarts? It was because I lived here and I studied in Beauxbatons" she explained. "My grand-mere lives in sixth arrondissement of Paris, you know Luxembourg?" So I merely walk through the rues, grabbing small items we might need.

Tess assumed the young girl followed her and she continued talking as she went. "What brought you here? Is your family here?

Janet watched and walked beside Tess as she received and paid for a bundle of flowers, laughing softly at her question. She hadn't realized her question was funny but her face spread into a grin nonetheless fo at least she had made the other girl laugh. The other girl explained that she was born in Paris and Janet's eyes widened.

"Oh, comme c'est bête de moi, yes I remember that now, that you transferred that is. I never was exactly sure where you transfered from though I remember the school being Beauxbatons" Janet smiled. "It's so nice that you can see your grand-mere still."

Tess then asked another question to which Janet just smiled and looked around at their surroundings, gesturing outwards as they walked. "This is what brought me here! This whole place is just full of life and energy. I've always wanted to come to France since I was a little girl. I've had a jar set aside that I put spare money in and that's how I'm going to be able to afford the shopping and the food and everything here. No, my family is at home, just me and my parents."

Tess briefly wondered just how Janet knew French so quickly. Still, she preferred to speak to her in English. She didn't want to assume Janet's fluency in French so she would not transition to her native tongue. Smiling slightly she continued to walk through the street as the people surrounding them shuffled through their lives. It was charming, that even in the hubbub everything just flowed.

"It's alright Janet, I think it's one thing hearing it, and another thing seeing me in my environment." she laughed softly. "I love my grand-mere dearly and is my confidant."

Even the mention of her grand-mere made her face brightened considerably. While she showed joy very rarely, the mention of her most beloved family member made her smile.

And as Janet explained the reasoning for visiting, she nodded. Paris was charming and beautiful and seductive in it;s own way.

"I can understand why Paris is of such interest. I love the city life, from the biggest rues such as this, to" she turned to the left towards the quietest area. "to more familiar places for people that have lived here their whole lives. What have you seen so far?"

Janet grinned and nodded. She didn't really have what you could call a "confidant", but she didn't really have much she felt she would need to confide in someone else for. Her parents had always been pretty close, so they were really all Janet had ever needed. Though, it did get lonely sometimes, for there wasn't really any close friends that she could share secrets with, or anything else. She sent occasional letters to her Grandparents, who she saw twice a year, and that was about it. Her world was pretty limited to herself, her family, and a couple friends that didn't really seem to know her at all.

But Janet didn't need any of that. Most of the time it didn't bother her and she didn't even think about it. She instead wrote, and read. Good lord she read, the nearby library Janet frequented didn't have a book she hadn't read, other than the occasional shipment of brand new books they received.

"I think it's so great that you're that close to her. Family can be there for you when others can't and you know you have someone to come to if you need them."

Janet took a moment to think. She had been here for almost a week and had seen lots of amazing things, so she just tried to think of the most prominent things. "Well, let's see. I visited the Eiffel tower, of course, I've been to several museums and such, I even got to see the outside of the Versailles Palace. Though, to be honest my favorite part has just been walking down streets and exploring, looking at the architecture and observing people in their element, you know?"

"I think it's so great that you're that close to her. Family can be there for you when others can't and you know you have someone to come to if you need them."

Tess smiled at that and hummed in agreement. It was true, she loved her grand-mere dearly because she allowed her to be herself and grow into the young woman she was meant to be. While she had a sharp tongue and a thorn on her father's side, she gave her the unconditional love that she needed to grow.

As they walked, Janet explained what she had seen and Tess smiled slightly. She loved the Eiffel Tower, especially at midnight when all the lights glimmered and shined signaling a new night. She also enjoyed the Louvre, that was filled with historical art; even so, the veil was a curious one that she had briefly seen the muggle art.

"Did...did you go the muggle side?" she asked curiously.

She would never cross, she could never cross, but she was very curious.

"So is she your mom's or your dad's mother?" she watched the other girl as they watched, interested in learning about the girl beside her. She intruiged Janet in a way she couldn't even explain but she tried to answer as many questions as she asked, not wanting the other girl to grow self-concious about answering the various questions.

"Yes, I have! I've explored a little bit on each side and they are both wonderful and beautiful in thier own way." She grinned and tilted her head at her. "Why do you ask?" Surely the other girl could just cross herself to see.

Janet's eyes were everywhere as she talked, whether on Tess, on her surroundings, or on her feet which she placed one directly in front of the other like walking on a tight rope. She made sure to look at the other witch as she talked though, out of respect.
