You Did What? (Dia)

Mercy yawned as she found herself sinking further into the couch by the fire, her homework starting to blur before her eyes. She loved playing quidditch, but with practices almost every day, she had very little time left to complete her work for classes. Well, she might, if she didn't keep putting it off, but that was another story entirely.

The Slytherins had the field today, so she had used the time to try and catch up on work, but after the first hour it just became unbearably tedious. Usually she could do her homework with Dia and they'd keep each other entertained while they worked, but she couldn't find the younger Gryffindor anywhere this afternoon. She wondered where the girl had gone.

There was still another hour until dinner, but Mercy's eyelids threatened to close if she had to write another sentence about magical fungi. She set her parchment to the side and put her quill down. She needed a break.

She looked up as she heard the portrait door swing open, and a familiar figure stepped through.

"Dia!" She grinned, straightening up. Her timing couldn't have been better.

Dominique couldn’t believe what Mimosa and she did. It was something that she didn’t think that was possible. The Slytherins were nothing but gullible. As they believed there lie, but it did get Mimosa on the team. At least Dominique was there to help. And they had no idea that she was even a Gryffindor. And the greatest part was they thought that she was a snitch. This was priceless and they even said that she could watch the Slytherins practice. It was something that she could use to her advantage. But first she had to find Mercy to tell her everything. As she knew that she wouldn’t believe it. Dia wished that she was there. But she knew that they wouldn’t get by with it.

Homework was something that she should be doing. But she wanted to spend time with Mimosa. There would be time to still do it. As she knew that she had an essay for Global Citizenship. As she knew that she had to impress the headmistress. Saying that Dominique needed to pay more attention in the class. But at least she got two points. But she then walked through the door, stepping into the common room.

She could tell that her friend was excited to see her. “ Mercy!"

"Dia, where've you been? I was looking looking for you earlier!" Mercy bounced across the sofa and draped herself over the armrest, gazing mournfully up at the younger Gryffindor. "I'm so bored. I was trying to do my homework but I almost fell asleep. I mean, I still need to do it because it's due tomorrow, but I really don't want to do it right now, you know? I'll try again after dinner."

She was babbling a little bit, but she was just so grateful for the break, and she really needed to stretch her legs. She struck a yoga-like position from her place on the couch, flexing her toes and bending her knees. "I finished my potions homework, and I'm almost done with herbology, and I practised the thing from transfiguration and I think I've mostly got it! But this day is going so slowly. What have you been up to?"

She craned her head to give the younger girl her full attention, releasing her pose and lying as still as she could on the couch.

Dominique couldn’t wait to tell Mercy what she had been up to. And she really wished that Mercy was there in person to see it. But it would have gone down a different way than it did. “ I was at the Quidditch Pitch with Mimosa.” She knew that she should have been doing homework. But she finished most of it and would continue after dinner. “ I already got mine done in Global Citizenship. I think the headmistress will be proud of her only first year.” First she would have to tell Mercy what she did. And was this one that was good to hear about.

She listened as Mercy tells her about the homework that she has done. And she knew that she should have been working with her. But a walk with Mim was worth all of the catching up, she would need to do. But now Mercy was asking her what she had been up to. And this is something that she had been waiting to tell someone. “ You are never going to believe what Mim and I was done.”

Dominique started to giggle as it was funny. “ And I can’t believe how gullible the Slytherin Quidditch team is."

"You were?!" Mercy's eyes went wide. Suddenly she wished she had been there. She knew she'd made a smart decision by catching up on her homework, but she couldn't help feeling left out when she learned her two best friends had met up without her. "How'd you get Mimosa by herself? Every time I see her she's surrounded by people. Or were they there too?"

Mercy grinned as Dia mentioned having already done her Global Citizenship homework. "I've heard that's a really hard class. You show that headmistress what you can do! I'll bet you'll get an Outstanding." She had full confidence in her friend's abilities. Honestly, the class sounded boring to her, but she knew Dia could do it. She'd also heard the headmistress was a mean teacher, so she hoped Dia was doing okay--and that she'd be able to prove just how awesome she was, just to see the look of surprise on the headmistress' face.

When Dia started giggling, Mercy knew the story was going to be good. "What happened? What did you do?" she asked, starting to giggle herself.

Dominique was feeling guilty that she got to hang out with Mim. But she knew that they would all have to spend time together. It seemed like Mercy made the right choice and did homework. Where Dia didn’t but that is something that she could always do later. “ Well I went down to where I thought the Slytherin dorms where. But she came out and she wanted to go outside. So I gave her my Gryffindor scarf and hoodie. Which I took her Slytherin scarf. Fool proof plan that actually worked. Because nobody stopped us.”

The homework in Global Citizenship wasn’t all that hard. But she did have to choose Mesoamerica. Which would be South America. “ I mean there are sixth and seventh years in there. It really isn’t that hard, you just have to pay close attention. I was scared to give an answer and when I did it was already passed. At least I got it right and got at least two points. But she told me to pay attention and not sleep. I swear the headmistress is a dragon lady.” She was glad that Mercy thought that she could get an Outstanding on her homework. She was just looking for a decent mark.

Now she was ready to tell Mercy about everything that happened. “ Well Mim and I went to the pitch and well Slytherin was practicing. They thought that we were spies and that is when all the lies came out."

"Ooh," Mercy nodded, impressed at their clever plan to get outside. She wondered if it would work more than once, so they could do it again if they all wanted to sneak out together. It would be fun to masquerade as other houses...her mischievous side jumped to the thought that if they got in trouble wearing clothes from other houses, the teachers might take points from the wrong house. She giggled at the thought, but knew it was wrong, so she wouldn't do it.

When Dia described how the headmistress was mean to her, Mercy's brow furrowed. "That's not fair...well, you'll just have to prove her wrong. If you ever need help, I'll do whatever I can." She didn't think she'd really be much help, but if it meant the headmistress got her comeuppance for treating Dia unfairly, she'd gladly assist Dia in any way possible.

Mercy listened with rapt attention as Dia began her story. "What did you do?"

Dominique was proud that her plan actually worked. Well it was really Mim, who though of it. And she went along so she could sneak her friend out. It was fun being a Slytherin for a little bit. As she did have some Slytherin in her blood. But she ended up in her mother’s house. She was a true Gryffindor. And was also glad that no professors actually caught them. When she was pretending to be a Slytherin. Because she didn’t want to loose all the house points that she had just earned.

She then told her all about the class. “ I mean I know it wasn’t fair, but she has to treat me like all of her other students.” Dominique knew that she was just doing her job. “ I know I am the only first year, so I have a lot to prove.” She then smiled when Mercy told her that she would help her anyway that she could. “ Thanks Mercy and I am sure that I will be asking for the extra help.” Dominique wanted to prove that she would do amazing in the class.

Now here came the story of the day.” Well let’s just say that the Slytherins believe that I am a snitch. Jake Newbury is coaching the Gryffindor team. There are a lot of lies today. But the best part is that Mim is on the team."

Mercy nodded slowly as Dia justified the headmistress's actions, but she still didn't like it. She grinned when Dia accepted her offer, though she didn't actually know much about the class at all. Well, if Dia ever needed help, Mercy would figure something out.

Mercy's eyes sparkled as she contained a laugh at all the lies the Slytherin team had believed, but when Dia ended with the news that Mimosa was now on the Slytherin quidditch team, her jaw dropped.

"What?!" She hadn't been expecting that. She let out a surprised guffaw, and then giggled long and hard. "How did you guys manage that? That's amazing!"

When the initial shock died down though, she started to realize some of the implications. While it was an impressive feat, and she was happy for Mimosa, a thought occurred to her that wasn't quite as happy.

"Wait, but that means I'll have to play against her. I don't want to do that..."

Dominique knew the class was going to be hard. So she was just going to have to give it her best. And she knew that Mercy was there when she need help. As she knew that she would be needing it. Maybe next year Mercy would take the class with her. As it was actually interesting and not boring. She was watching Mercy’s face as she was telling her all the lies that was told. What is worse, they actually believed it. But she wasn’t expecting to hear that her friend was on the team.

“ I didn’t know that she wanted to be on the Slytherin team.” Then she was asking how both girls managed to pull off this great plan. “ Well first off we didn’t let them know we was lying. Mim thought of the plan and I just went along with it. It was priceless!” This was something that she would never forget.

Now that Mim was on the Slytherin team, it meant that Mercy would have to go against her. “ Mercy I think that it will be alright. You know that Mim wouldn’t be too sad if Gryffindors actually beat the Slytherins.” They were going to be friends no matter what. And Dia wasn’t going to let some sport cause that to end.
