Alexei stood amongst the nervous hopefuls for the Slytherin Quidditch team, eyeing the younger students with a sort of curiosity. He didn't know why they were nervous. It was only a school sport after all yet, after listening in on some of the conversations going around, he had to hold back the urge to snort softly. Some of these kids were certainly aiming high.
When the captain of the team called the chaser up into the sky, Alexei mounted his broom -a Firebolt seekers edition (not the fastest broom but good enough for the Slytherin) and flew up behind the handful of other hopeful chasers. He was the only seventh year in the group of thirteen, the rest were mainly third and fourth years but there was one fifth and two sixth years. Out of the thirteen, five were boys while the rest were girls, which hadn't surprised Alexei that much.
The try-outs for chaser went much easier than the ones for the keeper, beater or seeker. Sure they had to pass the quaffle around while also dodging the bludgers, but for Alexei, it was an easy task to keep both an eye on where his fellow chasers were as well as where the bludger was.
It was the second part of the try-out that had been the deciding factor in who the chasers and back-up chasers going to be.
For the second part, the thirteen chasers had to try and get as many goals into the hoops as possible while keeping the keeper from saving the goals. Out of the thirteen chasers, only five of them were going to be chosen. Three chasers and two backup ones.
As Alexei took his spot opposite the Slytherin keeper, the seventh year thought back onto his three years at Durmstrang where he had been on the team for two years before his transferal to Hogwarts, those had certainly been fun and they had been the main reason why he hadn't tried out for the team at Hogwarts.
Out of the twenty shots that Alexei had available, he scored fourteen goals, six of those were scored by tricking the keeper into thinking that he was going a different way and the rest were scored by Alexei's impressive ball control that gave him the flexibility to control how he wanted the ball to go.
As he descended back to the ground, Alexei hoped that he would get at least to be a backup chaser. As he sat floating on his broom, the Italian kept an eye on the other potential chasers, making notes and mental observations on the twelve chasers who could end up on the team with him. Some of them he instantly knew wouldn't be on the team while others had more hope than anyone else. No matter who was picked, he knew that it would be a fun team either way. At least it would keep him busy during his free time.
"Welcome to the team Blackthorn." The captain shook his hand ten minutes later and smirked at the Italian-born wizard. "Let's hope you're as good during a game as you were right now. Training starts in two days time at 6 am."
