| Taking the Obscurial wrapped infant into her arms was the most heinous feeling in the world. The child was barely tangible in the dark, murky filth that surround her. Vanessa could only guess though that the virus siphoning off the child's magic was in a dormant state much like the sleeping baby. For now, Elenore Lissette and the monster she hosted were benign, but that could change very soon. Holding the baby close to her, the Lady Clement closed her eyes for a brief moment, her own magical energies touching the darkness the child carried before leaving it be. Best not to wake it now.
The problem had been all about access, she reflected as Louis took the other two children by the hand, leading them back to the main room with Delphine following the baby close behind. Children were not difficult to deal with, they had merely holed themselves away here so no one could reach them. And now that the Lord and Lady Clement had managed to reach the chlordane, their fate was all but sealed. In a kinder world, they would be able to keep the children safe until a cure was discovered. in a world not traumatized by change and fear, there could perhaps be a solution to the problem they had encountered. But that was not the world they lived in.
Being Head of House Clement meant making difficult decisions about the House and the Country it oversaw. And the Lord and Lady Clement had been making difficult decisions their entire lives.
Better a stranger's child named Elenore Lissette than her own Elenore Lissette. The infant would have to be dealt with first, her influence of the Obscurial being the most obvious and uncontrollable.
The four threats would not last the night.
As they readied themselves to descend back to the top of the dug out snow banks, Vanessa took a last look at the surroundings, raising her head to Louis who immediately stopped what he was doing.
'Delphine dear, please take a shawl, it might get cold up there."
The sullen teen obeyed wordlessly, picking up a hideously multicolored garment only to have Vanessa shake her head disapprovingly. Instead, the older witch nodded towards a much more acceptable pale blue throw that the child retrieved and wrapped around herself.
It wouldn't be cold up there, the snow did not generate any coolness.
But the last thing Delphine wore would suffice to cover her injuries and send her off with dignity. It would shroud her body , denoting her a young lady.
It was the only kindness they could do her now.
With a heavy heart, the Lord and Lady Clement ascended to the surface once more, accompanied by four children who would not last the night. ________________________________________________Come Plot With Me <3 | |
