| For an eleven year old, Elenore was very clever. It came with the fun of being a Clement. Private tutors from the moment you could talk, all the opportunities in life that you could be given. Parents who wanted only the best for you, and were not terribly good with the word no. Elenore was much older in knowledge than she should have been at eleven.
And yet, she could not determine the feeling of loneliness that had set upon her since she'd been at Hogwarts.
Caramarienne was here, and thus Elenore had her sister close by. Jacques - for all the difference he made - was here too. And yet, even with her family so close, Elenore felt... lost.
Homesickness was not something that Elenore was privy to, and thus she had not noticed the signs when they first came on. When she finished her lessons for the day, Elenore often went back to her dorms, picking up her mother's cardigan and pulling it on. The smell of her mother - as faint as it was now - had a calming effect on the young Hufflepuff that she didn't notice enough to question.
Today was such a day, too.
Elenore had just finished Herbology - a most distasteful subject, with much too much dirt for her liking. She'd skipped lunch in favour of a shower to scrub herself clean, and pulled on a pair of pyjamas, before pulling her mother's cardigan on top. With her transfiguration book in hand, Elenore had sat down in the corner of the common room, away from everyone else, and submerged herself in the book.
The spells were basic, and Elenore had yet to find them challenging, but she wanted to make sure she had the knowledge up to standard. There was no way in the world she was going to let Jacques out do her, in anything. Elenore was very much lost in her book, so she didn't notice anyone coming back from dinner that evening. Nor that she'd curled herself up lots, her mother's cardigan pulled up to her face so she could inhale the soft scents of perfume that still lingered.
Elenore would not succumb to something so trivial.

| For Amethyst it was yet just another day in school. Same old routine with her waking up and having a nice shower, getting dressed and doing her hair before heading down to the Great Hall for breakfast. There she met up with her sister and a couple of friends, before she headed off towards her first class. It was the same thing over and over again for the past seven years, and it would end up being really boring, but thankfully, she had her sister, TJ, and little first years that, sometimes, sought out to her for help and everything.
And truth was, Amethyst loved to help them. She felt like a mother, directing her kids during their first school days. Or taking care of them whenever they were sad, lost, or anything for that matter. It was something she enjoyed doing, and got multiple times asked how she managed to do that. It was simply something she liked. So she did it happily.
After a very tiring lesson of Potions, Amethyst was glad she had the chance to return to her Common Room. TJ was busy with Quidditch Practice, and Amethyst just wanted to do something ot get her mind off of the angry Professor Balan. She really could not understand that man. She kinda found him nice, for some reason, but he had his days. There were some times when he was moody and angry and well... he was just like Amy when TJ had not touched her in a while. And then there were days when he was fine. Which was weird.
Muttering the password to the portrait, Amethyst slipped inside the Common Room, ready to lie in the couch and get some rest. But the couch was occupied, by a tiny little girl, wrapped in a cardigan with her nose into a book. Amethyst wanted to giggle at how cute the little brunette looked, but she held back and instead, she simple allowed a smile to touch her features as she slowly approached the girl.
"Hi, I am Amethyst. May I sit with you?" |

| Elenore was a cute child - which was probably why she had missed out on being sorted in to Slytherin in the first place. She was a hard worker though, something she'd found out whilst reading the explanation of her house. Friendly, she was definitely the friendlier of the Clement children, taking after her mother in that respect.
But behind all the sweetness was a fierce young lady, who knew exactly what she wanted. It was simply controlled.
Elenore has been off in a world where she had transfigured Jacques in to a rabbit - much easier to control, and Caramarienne and her were finding it fun poking him through the cage. Of course she loved Jacques, but sometimes he needed putting back in his place.
"Hi, I am Amethyst. May I sit with you?"
The French witch jumped, so lost in thought that she hadn't seen the older witch approach her. "Oui." Elenore responded motioning to the free space beside her. "Non." Elenore signed to herself, she was too young to remember that speaking in English was now an every day essential. "I'm sorry. Of course you can." The French witch responded with a small smile, moving her spare books to the floor.
"I'm Elenore." The younger Hufflepuff offered, like always she didn't give her last name. She wasn't like Jacques who basked in the name he'd been given. She was proud to be a Clement, but Elenore was going to make a name for herself, not simply use the power she'd been given.
That was the easy way out.

| The younger witch's surprise made Amethyst giggle as she softly sat beside the other Hufflepuff. She was french, she understood, since she spoke to her in French. And that gave Amy a small opening to make a discussion. In the language the girl was most comfortable with.
"Je suis désolé pour vous effrayer," she mumbled. She knew how it was for a first year to come to a school, away form your parents to learn magic. It was excited but also scary. Because you soon missed your parents. And it was understandable.
Amethyst noticed that the girl kept reading her book and was now very interested in knowing what was that important. What she found so fascinating in it. "Puis-je demander, ce que vous lisez?"
Who knew ? If this book was interesting she might have to read it for herself. After all, books were her strong point. |

| Elenore's eyes went a little larger than normal. "You know French?" The younger witch asked, though really it was a redundant question in that moment. "That's amazing, I thought only my frère and Caramarienne would be the ones who speak French here!" She explained, smiling warmly at the older witch. "Where did you learn it?"
As the older witch, Amethyst, asked what she was reading, Elenore closed it up enough for the cover to be seen. "Only my transfiguration textbook. I can do the spells already, I'm just revising the theory. And wondering if it's possible to turn my brother in to a white rabbit. Actually... a black rabbit would be more suitable... but I think that's more complex magic, maybe we learn how to do that when we're older... like you?" The question was subtly placed before the witch, and it was innocent (mostly). Elenore would find out if her looks and carefully selected words would be enough to lure the information she wanted, or whether Amethyst would wave it away as a 'child's playful ideas'.

| "You know French?"
Amethyst giggled once again as she watched the girl's eyes widen in surprise. It was indeed, the cutest little Hufflepuff she had ever seen. And she kind of reminded her of her younger sister, Sapphire, which made Amethyst want to learn even ore about this little one. She just felt obliged to stand by this girl, but she didn't know why.
"That's amazing, I thought only my frère and Caramarienne would be the ones who speak French here!"
Amethyst raised an eyebrow at that, trying to figure out who these people were, but she couldn't make it out. They were probably her friends, or people close to her. But Amy knew better than just bluntly ask her. These things were kind of private. So instead, she decided it was better if she, instead, answered her question.
"Well, I did have a teacher, and I really like languages as well. I speak... like... umm.. 4 or 5 different languages!" Amethyst was really proud of that as well. She loved reading books and getting to know people, and that gave her the opportunity of learning so many languages. She spoke English, French, Russian, Italian and even German. She sometimes didn't even understand how many languages she knew.
But then the girl went on and showed her the cover of her book, which Amethyst took in silently. She was studying Transfiguration! Wasn't than a sight to see! Amethyst rarely ever found First Years who were actually studying. She was really liking this girls with every passing minute.
And then the way she explained that she already knew the spells and she was simply just revising... it just made Amethyst really happy. Huflepuff was mistaken for a weak house, but here were people like this little girl proving how much of a capable witch and wizards this house had.
But then, as she explained how she wanted to turn someone into a rabbit, Amethyst's eyebrows reached her hairline. She couldn't be serious, could she?
.. but I think that's more complex magic, maybe we learn how to do that when we're older... like you?"
"Oh well, actually yes. You will be able to Transfigure him into a bunny. Do not know about the color, but he sure will be able to take a bunny form!" |

| "Well, I did have a teacher, and I really like languages as well. I speak... like... umm.. 4 or 5 different languages!"
Elenore's eyes went wide at that. "You're brilliant!" The French witch insisted with a warm smile. "I only speak three fluently. English, French and Italian. But I know conversation starters in more languages than I could list." Elenore explained, not trying to show off, merely show that she had a love of languages. "I plan on perfecting my German and Spanish with time, what with them being close to my home country."
When Elenore learned that she might one day be able to transfigure her brother in to a rabbit, Elenore let out a soft laugh at the idea of Jacques' face. "I think that my brother might murder me if I insulted him in such a manner." Elenore explained, still amused. "Though, he doesn't know I always do it in my head anyway, when he's being... not so nice." The witch explained, letting out a small sigh. Jacques was never very nice, but that was Jacques, and she still loved her big brother.
"Do you have any siblings?" Elenore asked, looking up at the older witch hopefully. It was nice being able to talk to someone, it took away (even if momentarily) the feeling of loneliness that had come with being at Hogwarts for the last couple of months.
