| As she pulled away from the kiss, she couldn't help the smile on her face as she watched Finley. His eyes were still closed, as if he couldn't find the strength to open them, and automatically, she filed that away. His grin told her all she needed to know, but she still waited, wanting more than just a smile for an answer.
And, as he spoke, Maddie let out a small laugh, genuine and friendly. "I'm glad," she answered coyly. Reaching forward, she slipped her arm through his, so they were standing side by side, and continued walking. There was no point in standing around after something like that, and anyway, it would only make things more awkward for the boy.
She was sure, after all, that he wouldn't know what to do with himself if she wasn't there to take the lead. Of course, she would let him appear to be the one in charge of a relationship - as all men should be, or at least, according to social standards should be (which she didn't necessarily agree on, but would adhere to for his sake). But if Madison was only good at one thing, it would be manipulation, and already her mind was on how she would and could use this new... situation... for her good.
Except, this time, Finley's benefit was included in this; she realised, not too unhappily, that Finley's well-being was now integrated with what made her happy.
"We should go out sometime," she said, to break the silence. She wasn't going to ask him on a date, no. That was his job, and she wanted to ensure he felt like he was doing something, even if it was clear to her that she was the one in charge. |

| As Madison took his arm, Finley took the hint and carried on in the direction of the common room which he had known the location of since Christmas. Though, of course, passwords changed and he couldn't get in to the common room, he knew where he was going and that was enough.
The smile on Finley's lips didn't fade, either as they walked, he was on cloud nine, and when Madison spoke next, he caught himself. Still smiling like an oaf, he sobered as he processed her words. A nod was the start of Finley's response, before he thought on the idea.
"W-well..." He started, thinking for a moment before plunging for the idea he genuinely believed to be of his making. "Would you l-like to go to Hogsmeade with m-me? For V-Valentine's Day?" Finley asked softly, not knowing if that was too much too soon. But they could head in to the village together... maybe go to the teashop... no, maybe not the teashop as there would be a lot of couples there on Valentine's Day and that would be too much for him.
But they could spend the day together doing something. If Madison wanted to. And it didn't have to be Hogsmeade... they could stay at the caslte... Finley's head was swimming with possibilities, all of which had their merits and disadvantages. But the decision could be made later, right? |
