Chee Wye grew up in the streets of Petaling Jaya. While he was in standard 1, he started displaying unusual giftings, leading his parents to believe that he was possessed. A Buddhist family, they burnt offerings daily, praying to different gods and goddesses to ‘cure’ their son, until a few days later, an official from the Malaysian branch of magical Government showed up to explain things to them.
They were skeptical at first, but once they understood what was happening, they did everything they could to provide their son with a good education, making sure he didn’t use or display his magic. When he was old enough, he was finally told the truth of his abilities, and at the age of 12, he was sent off to the nearest wizarding school.
He enjoyed himself and made many friends. Unfortunately, with the Malaysian government not fully understanding or appreciating this despite the efforts of the magical community, the school was forced to shut down. Since there weren’t many local magical folk, they were dispatched to places around the world that did have magical schools.
This was how, at the age of 16, Chee Wye found himself heading to the UK, to attend Hogwarts. It was his first time abroad, and he was understandably nervous.

Zi-Cai and Mai Yee had a typical life; they met in school, and dated once they were in college. After a huge Chinese wedding and even larger dinner, complete with karaoke, they moved into a house together and started a family. Unfortunately for them, they only ever had one child, who turned out to be a disappointment in the fact that he was ‘different’, and was, supposedly, ‘magical’.
Nevertheless, they support their only child, while secretly pining for him to turn ‘normal’.
