BACKGROUND

"Conundrum" is a good way to describe Aiko's character. She is of a gold heart, but not a pure mind or soul. She loves people dearly, but will deceive them if need be. She doesn't do this to hurt others, no, but she does this for personal gain.

Aiko's name is fusion of the terms "faith" (信仰 or Shinko) and "love" (愛 or Ai) from the hopes that she would achieve what her mother could not; a faithful and compassionate relationship that would forever uphold her true self. Growing up was difficult in Aiko's case. She was born from a love affair between Thibault, a famous photographer who never really had any roots to begin with, and Aoi, a model at the time for the company that Thibault's father owned (see more in FAMILY BACKGROUND). Aoi expected no help from him, but was shocked when Thibault pushed for custody and for her to marry him. Aoi declined the marriage proposal, but she did accept the idea of a "live long partnership" in which they would raise Aiko together.

Basically her parents explored an open relationship.

Which doesn't really do wonders for a children's psyche. What really kept her sane and stable was the honesty in her parents actions: they never deceived her and said they were anything but two people who loved her very dearly and wanted her to be happy. Aiko came to also understand that in her father's life, she was the only child he would come to take responsibility for. Her father didn't sever ties with his ex-lovers, but when his other children were younger he didn't have much time to see them as he traveled the world for his photography. As his children grew older however, Hunter, Samantha, Lilliana, and Justin, all came to understand their out-of-the-picture father (as he would often "anonymously" pay for their schoolings, needs, and whatever else their mothers requested of him). Hunter, Samantha, Lilliana, and Justin were totally accepting of the situation that she was: the only child of five to be taken as a "Lermerciér".

Whenever she asked her father way, he merely tucked a stray hair behind her face and told her with a sad smile that he was to pay for the sins he'd committed (what she didn't understand was that in her parents short affair, Thibault was completely enamored by her mother, with no true affection returning). Her father acts as her agent in all senses of the word. When she was at the ripe age of five-years-old she set off a fire alarm with a fire she started because of tantrum she had after her shoot in Glasglow was a bust. Thankfully the region she was in had an inhabitants of Aurors and thus came a seven hour explanation for both her and her parents about what exactly she was: a witch.

Saffavina Singh would continue to be a presence in Aiko's life as she promised to help them throughout the struggle of magical heritage. It was confusing for two muggles to produce a child of magical heritage, but with further digging it was revealed that Aiko's magical ancestry traced back into the Meiji Period in Japan, where her grandparents kept their abilities secret but used said powers to usurp the previous Endo dynasties. Saffa would help Aiko come into her powers and understand the world she was to be living in, eventually, and this prompted a move when Aiko was eight to England to be closer to the schooling she was to explore eventually. Before moving to England she'd lived in Tokyo, Japan to be closest to work as a child model. It was a miracle, the industry called her, that she was able to retain her adorable features.

Saffa, an international working Auror, sometimes called her "chiisa na hime" or "little princess", but whenever they were in England together she called Aiko, "little Veela" with the responses she got from other people.

At the age of 11, when she first started Hogwarts, she pushed all her shoots into the summer time. Her summer days are mostly spent traveling around the world for whatever industry she's working with; it varies with age. She enjoys her work, but she equally enjoys her schoolwork as well and the explorations of her abilities.

As a person, she does want to make friends, but she also wants to succeed. She wants to be a well-known and established witch someday; wants to be known for her magical abilities and talents. Below all this ambition and determination to succeed however... Aiko wants to be loved. She craves a companion to hold at night and curl up against. She needs someone to adore and be by her side always. She's definitely a "hopeless romantic".

LEMERCIÉR

Thibault is the son of Ulrich Lemerciér, but the second son. His older brother, Joseff, took on the family business of commerce while Thibault gets all the leeway to do as he pleases. He was, and in some ways still is, a playboy philanthropist who lusts for adventure and fun. He's more childish than responsible which explains the string of illegitimate children: Hunter was the product of an English teacher, daughter of a lesser pureblood, Samantha was the combination of him and a secretary for MI6, Lilliana is the daughter of him and a Kama Sutra specialist, and Justin is the product of him and a tourist from the States.

Although, Thibault is no deadbeat dad. With the money he makes off his photography skills, skills that have taken him all over the world and allowed him to see all sorts of beauties and horrors, he also spends it amongst his children making sure they're all in good homes (it is pure luck, he thinks, that they all are in two-parent homes despite their parentage). He planned on never settling, but then of course, just as every dog has it's day he too met the woman of his dreams...

KOMAGATA

Aoi is just as adventurous as the father of her only child. She loves a life in which all facets of daringness and spontaneity are available to her. She's always been a free-spirit in a conservative world; she takes after an American person more than the daughter of Japanese wealthy family. She uses this wealth to explore her options and her father, a widow and too sad over the loss of his wife many years ago, allows her to take advantage of her situation. She is the youngest of six, and the least mature.

The Komagata Industry is an electronic company that produces a third of the products exporting to America and a half of the products that go to Africa and Australia. Five out of the six daughters married into good families to further increase the wealth that Komagata collectively pools in, and Aoi's work as model and then columnist on various controversial topics also reigns in a fair amount of money.

Aoi is aromantic; she doesn't feel a necessity for romantic affections. She's also pansexual. That is the one thing she does lie about to Aiko, though not Thibault, is that she has a variety of sexual partners throughout Aiko's childhood. However as Aiko grows older and her and Thibault grow closer, she realizes that he is the best friend in her life and an important figure in her life as well as Aiko's.

KOTAGAWA + LERMERCIÉR

They met in Paris, France and stayed there for quite a long while (about five years) before moving again. Aiko continuously grew up in different environments. If nothing else, she wants something steady and foundational in her life.
