Strengths: Gavin is a very intelligent and capable wizard, he's also very personable and well liked, but first and foremost Gavin's strength is ability to adapt to most any circumstance
Weaknesses: Despite all the praise lauded on him Gavin is very meek and doesn't have a lot of self confidence, he tries to shoulder responsibility for things he couldn't possibly have influenced, and a bit of a doormat not wanting to risk the friends he has by standing up for himself.

Background
It's always assumed that children of multiple births are close to one another, which could not have been less true of the Pierce children. From birth it seemed Gavin and his older brother Garret were destined to be at odds. Her kind and gentle nature tempered Garret's temper and her nurturing and encouraging manner bolster's Gavin's timid personality. For her the two Pierce boys attempted to maintain the peace to the best of their abilities. Had she survived into adulthood one could only guess at the kinds of men her brothers would be.
Sadly shortly after the triplets turned thirteen they were caught in the woods near their home during a particularly bad lightning storm. They'd set up a camp and tried to stay it out. Unfortunately their camp was in the middle of a werewolf's hunting ground on the night of a full moon. The piercing scream of their beloved sister was what the Pierce boys were awoken by. And in possibly one of the only acts of bravery in his life, not realizing it was already too late, Gavin charged the beast in attempt to save his sister. The ensuing fight was short lived as the wolf made short work of the teenager. Appreciating his moxie the animal allowed to him live, of course making sure to turn the boy.
After that the Pierce family wasn't ever the same; their mother got more protective and over bearing, their father retreated into his work with the ministry and was rarely ever home, Garrett got even more volitile and as a result was always in trouble at school, and Gavin--well Gavin retreated into himself. His only outlets were Quidditch which he excelled at, and his friendship with an older boy in his house, one Jake Newbury.
Finishing school the youngest Pierce decided to head out on his own and move to Ireland while pursuing a career in the field of magizoology. His love of nature and magical creatures masking his ulterior motive of finding a cure for lycanthropy.
