Defence Against the Dark Arts (Lesson Three - All Years)

The final lesson of term, Jake wouldn't lie when he said he was looking forward to the holidays. More time with his children was much more than needed, truth be told. Of course, that wasn't his student's fault, and thus he was still throwing himself in to his lessons fully to make sure they had everything they needed to be able to pass their end of year exams.

He'd made today's lesson a little quirky, though.

Instead of making this a lesson, he'd made it a test, of sorts. But a fun one.

On the door, there was a note to all of his students.

This lesson will be that of three stages, should you wish to try the stages, you will need to enter the classroom and say two words. "I'm ready."

It was time for the dreaded DADA lesson. At least it would be the last one for the term and he had the holidays to look forward to. That cheered him up a little but not enough to be optimistic about the subject he was the weakest at. Hoping that Jake would do something easy to end the term, Elleon made his way to the third floor and, as always, took a few breaths before approaching the classroom.

On the door was a note, and Elleon's heart sank with each word he read. It was going to be a test. He knew it. And he was going to fail. No, he couldn't think like that. He'd been practicing his spell and charm casting - not as much as he should've - and he knew he had improved somewhat. But was it enough to go through whatever this was? Three stages sounded terrifying.

For a moment, Elleon considered turning around and skipping class. But he was this close to moving on to the next year. His sister would be so disappointed with him if he gave up now and he knew he would be disappointed with himself later. Closing his eyes, he counted to ten before pushing the door open and entering the classroom.

In his thick accented voice, he whispered, "I'm ready."

Clara paused outside the DADA classroom and read the sign. A test. Fun. Of course, she wasn't going to just barge in there saying she was ready if she wasn't. She was a Ravenclaw, she thought things through. She made a mental checklist of everything she might possibly need to prepare for. From what she'd seen of Professor Newbury so far, he liked practical lessons. She would probably need her wand, rather than a quill. The sign says it will have three parts. What three categories could there be? Defense, offense, both? Or maybe, all the different spells we learned this year--but that wasn't three, was it? Oh, maybe defense against creatures, humans, and something else. Plants? Objects?

She decided she probably couldn't predict exactly what would happen, so she should just prepare for anything. She ran through all of the spells she thought might be the most useful--immobulus, depulso, lumos, diffindo, petrificus totalus, expelliarmus, stupefy...I can do all of those, I should be fine. She took her wand from her sleeve and gripped it loosely in her hand in a ready position. Then she took a deep breath, heart pounding in anticipation, and pushed open the door.

"I'm ready," she said, her mind open and alert, bracing herself for whatever came next.

DADA was no big issue for Stephanie. In fact, Stephanie didn't have much trouble with her studies, regardless of whether it was theoretical or practical. She knew much about the wizarding world, having been born into it, and that knowledge reflected in her grades. Thus far, she had never failed any subject. Of course, Muggle Studies was completely new to her but she was catching on quite quickly. Her studies had never been a problem for her.

And so, when she saw the note on the door, she wasn't worried at all. She'd actually anticipated a test - it was the end of the term after all - but she just didn't know what kind of test it would be. Of course, it had to be practical since it was DADA, but she'd thought they would all be in the class and Jake would be there to test them on certain things. In any case, whatever they were going to be doing today sounded fun.

Taking out her wand, Stephanie stepped into the classroom and in a clear voice said, "I'm ready."

Pausing outside of the DADA classroom, Roxanne blinked her eyes at the note that was stuck to the door. Just what was Jake planning for their lesson? She had no idea but the thrill and thirst of wanting to know overtook her thus the redheaded female waited behind her fellow classmates and watched as they, one by one, made their way passed the door.

She had no idea what Jake was going to plan or what was going to happen behind the door but she was eager to try out whatever the DADA professor was going to throw her way. She always loved being tested on things and to see how far she would be able to go; she had no plans in going to DADA full time but she certainly enjoyed the lessons that Jake threw at them. It was something that made Roxy very eager to attend all of the lessons that Jake put up.

When it was her turn, Roxy pushed the door open and stepped through, only two words leaving her lips as she pulled out her wand from its holster and gripped it in her hand.

"I'm ready."

Marley sprinted down the corridor, her cloak catching the wind behind her as she ran. She clutched her book to her chest and attempted to rake her fingers through her unrelenting wavy hair. By some dumb luck, Marley had fallen asleep on the grounds under a large tree near the edge of the forest. The warm sun and summer breeze must've rocked her gently into a deep sleep. Marley wiped her mouth with her sleeve, making sure there wasn't any drool clinging to her face.

As she rounded the last corner, nearly out of breath now, she slowed her pace and tried to see what everyone else was looking at. She tilted her head from side to side, looking around each student until her eyes fell on the paper pinned to the door. DADA was one of Marley's best subjects, so she wasn't too concerned with the "test" exactly. She didn't like the unknown nature but was certain it wouldn't be a big deal.

Marley entered the classroom, dropped her now unneeded book onto an empty desk and pulled her wand out. She smiled quietly to herself before declaring "I'm ready".

As Prim came up to the DADA classroom the first thing she noticed were countless of students just standing around, staring at the door to their classroom; confused, the Gryffindor pushed through the throngs of people and blinked her eyes at the note on the door.

A test of some kind?

Was the first thought that ran through her head, the next was the thought that they were doing this on their own which meant that no-one could cheat off the other person, which meant that you would be marked based on your own performance in the test. That was something that Prim agreed with; at least no-one would be able to cheat and no-one would get points for someone else's work.
Not that she believed that Jake would even let one of his students cheat off the other.

Watching as students went in one by one, Prim got herself mentally ready; she would have to be ready to show off everything that she learnt and knew. Stepping through the door, she didn't bother looking behind herself as the door slammed shut, she gripped her wand tight in her hand and declared in her soft voice.

"I'm ready."
