Defence Against the Dark Arts: Lesson One - Years 5-7 Empty
PostSubject: Defence Against the Dark Arts: Lesson One - Years 5-7   Defence Against the Dark Arts: Lesson One - Years 5-7 EmptySat Sep 02, 2017 11:01 am

The summer had been quite a good rest for Jake, time well spent with his children in the summer sun had brought his shoulders to something of a relaxed state. The Nightshade threat had been squashed in a midnight raid, and the main perpetrator, Isaac Hayford, had been remanded in Auror custody until his sentence of life in Azkaban had been given.

The Wizarding World had come to it's senses, now, a calm spreading across the world once more, much to Jake's happiness. Merlin knew the extra hours they'd spent tracking the Nightshade's movements had deprived his children of quality time with him. But, now that things had settled, Jake knew he'd have more time with them.

September had rolled back in, though, which meant Jake had more children to look after once again. He loved the kids he taught, they were all so switched on to learning, it was almost impossible for him not to go to lessons with a warm smile in place. Today's lessons, Jake had opted to split, knowing that he had to teach the older years some more advanced magic that the younger years.

Today, they would be attempting one of the most difficult forms of magic in the world, one that few could master, but one that was amazing when you could perform it. Behind Jake, on the board, was the information on the day's lesson.

The Patronus Charm.

Defence Against the Dark Arts was not one of Max's strongest lessons, and after finding his Boggart in the previous year, Max hadn't particularly wanted to come back to the lesson. However, after some research, Max had found that a N.E.W.T. in DADA was a necessity to do well in his intended field.

Therefore, the Gryffindor prefect hurried along to the third floor and in to DADA with a tight smile on his face. He wasn't particularly comfortable, even if the Professor was one of the nicer ones in the school, but he would try.

"Morning, Jake." Max greeted the professor, moving to the side of the room and placing his bag on the floor. Once again, Jake had left the room empty of desks and chairs, but Max was quite used to this quirk from his professor. Looking to the board, Max took in the day's topic with a mild appreciation for the subject.

There would be animals around, today... kind of.

Hoping that Prim would be here too, Max simply waited for the lesson to begin.

Defence Against the Dark Arts was probably one of the strongest subjects that Roxy is proficient in, she's no master at it, she doubts she ever will be, but it is a subject that she none the less loves. Even though her magic rebelled at the thought of doing DADA, she pushed through and slowly found her Magic to be less rebellious when it came to it, which made Roxy breathe a sigh of relief because it felt like she had been denying a part of herself when she did DADA.

Slipping into the room, Roxy beamed at Jake and waved her hand slightly before she tucked an errant piece of hair behind her ear. "Hi, Jake!" She quipped chirply as she slid into one of the many empty spaces in the room, her bag quickly fall to the ground behind her with a soft thump.

The topic on the board easily caught her notice before she grimaced; this would be hard. The Patronus charm was light magic and she knew that she wouldn't be able to do it. That is not to say she wouldn't try her damnedest to make it succeed but she had a feeling that this particular spell wouldn't be in her repertoire any time in the future.

In an unexpected twist of fate, Elleon had gotten a higher grade in DADA than he had in potions, an Outstanding, no less. After receiving his grade, he'd spent almost half an hour just staring at it, debating if it was for real, if someone had pulled a prank on him, or Jake had given him the wrong grade my mistake. On the last day of school, he'd finally approached his DADA professor. With his sister as interpreter, he'd asked if Jake had made a mistake in grading him. It was only after multiple assurance that he'd gotten the right grade that he dared to believe it. He'd been utterly disappointed in his potions result but at least he'd gotten an O in DADA. It gave him some hope.

He entered the classroom and greeted Jake, standing near the side of the room before turning his eyes to the board. The Patronus Charm. He knew what it was and what it was for, but he also knew that only skilled wizards could produce it successfully. He definitely doubted that he was able to do so but he was deeply curious as to what form his patronus would take if he managed to pull it off.

A subject that she excelled at, along with Ancient Runes, Prim had been very eager to get a start on DADA as soon as her sixth year started. She had received an EE in DADA and while she wasn't too distraught by it she had hoped to get an O in it but it seemed that life had other plans and only gave her an EE.

Curling her hand around her cane, she slowly and steadily walked towards the Defence Against the Dark Arts classroom, a pout firmly on her lips before it disappeared as soon as the classroom came into sight. Quickening her pace, Prim easily slid into the open doorway and waved her hand at Jake, folding up her cane and slipping it into her bag.

"Hey, Jake!" She sounded chirpy as she slid over into space next to Max, easily finding her wayward boyfriend in the mass of students around them. The topic on the board caught her attention and she couldn't help the eyebrow that arched at it.

Patronus Charm?

Well, this certainly was going to be one lesson where people would either spectacularly fail or suceed in.

Defence Against the Dark Arts was something in what Sasha seemed to do most of the time good. Even if she herself didn't call it her best subject. She just herself didn't find herself being good in this lesson. All she knew that she needed this lesson to pass her years.

The girl soon walked into the classroom where was few students already. She greeted professor with a small smile on her face. She figured it could be a good idea since everyone else before her seemed to do it too.

She walked over the wall and sat down next do it. She knew very well that in this classroom there was barely any seats where to sit. So she was sitting now on the floor. She will stand up once the class did really start. She had read from the board what they will learn and that made the girl sigh.

She was sure that this lesson won't be easy for her. Sasha knows that she might not succeed on this and she is a bit worried about it, then again she might do it. No one really knows until you haven't tried at least once.

Having missed half of his last year, Alexei had been held back the year by the Headmaster and truthfully, he couldn't blame the man; his health had been bad that last part of the year and he still wasn't feeling too well but he was well enough to attend some lessons which he was going to try his hardest to attend as he didn't want to be held back another year.

Making his way towards the DADA classroom, Alexei slipped inside and nodded his head at his fellow students before looking at Jake, a tight smile on his lips. "Hi, Jake." He said softly as he moved towards one of the many empty spaces in the classroom, dumping his bag on the floor by the further wall, his eyes cutting to the board where the topic of their lesson was.

Patronus Charm.

At least it was going to be a practical lesson for the day and not theory.

Defense Against the dark arts was one of the only classes that koda felt as though she would one day use in her life amongst the real world. It was a class that taught young students how to defend themselves if a time ever may come in which defence was needed. According to the morals of the young slytherine defense was always needed because there was always some sort of evil in the world that needed to be sent away or destroyed. Koda knew this firsthand, as one of the evils shed known was someone of her own blood. but blood or not all evil must be stopped.

Looking to the board Koda noticed that they would be studying the patronus charm. She bit her upper lip in thought, wondering if she would even be able to create a patronus. If so, what animal would it be? How would she know she decided that there would only be one way to find out and that would be to stand and wait for instructions to be given.

As the classroom filled up, Jake took the time to greet his students with a fond smile as they entered. Most opted to lean against the wall, and Jake let them have that -- he'd had a few complaints about the lack of seating arrangements, but that wasn't about to make him change how he taught.

As the minutes ticked by, Jake checked his watch once or twice, until finally the hour came around. Smiling to himself, Jake looked around the room at the familiar faces, before clapping his hands together to get everyone's attention back on himself. "Right, good morning everyone, I trust we all had a good holiday? And, we can now all relax now that the threat of the Nightshades has passed, I'm sure you're thinking?" Jake prompted them, looking around for another moment.

"Wrong." He continued, his features serious. "Just because the Ministry has announced the capture of one of the ring leaders does not mean you're safe. Please always remember that, and don't get complacent that my class might no longer be as useful as before." Jake told them, setting them all straight. A number of the students would be going out in to the wider world soon, and Jake would not allow them to think they were going in to a world that was without danger.

"Now, for those of you who haven't taken in the board, we will be learning the Patronus Charm today. For many of you, this may become a theoretical lesson due to the complexity of the charm. I am not, by any stretch of the imagination expecting one hundred percent capability of my students on this charm." Jake explained, because he did not want people to beat themselves up for 'failing'.

"So, let's start with the theory. What is the Patronus Charm?" Jake asked, looking around. "What is the incantation? What is the wand movement? The colour of the spell? It's effects?" He prompted, though as always, he was not expecting one person to answer all of these questions, he was expecting mass participation.

OOC: If you wish to participate in this lesson, but have not already entered, you're more than welcome to join in!

Roxy bit her lower lip as she fidgeted in her place, her eyes flitting around the room before straightening when Jake finally started the lesson. The young witch listened to the elder male, her attention entirely focused on the words that were being said.

The Nightshades were still an unknown to Roxy purely because she hadn't been too involved in that conflict and she hadn't really kept up with what was going on with it; she had been mainly focused on her studies and trying hard to pass the year to actually acknowledge anything in regards to that group of people.

"A Patronus Charm," Roxy started by answering the first question on what the Patronus charm is, which would, quite probably also answer one of the other questions. "Is a charm that protects the caster from Dementors by pushing them back. It's a charm that is hard to cast but should a witch or wizard be able to do it they will be faced with a Spirit Guardian, an animal that they are most affiliated with."

With her part done to the participation, Roxy closed her lips, letting the other students answer the other questions; which weren't hard to answer if you read ahead in your books. Not to mention it was probably the easiest theory one could learn.
