Mimosa Harrington had always known her thirteenth name day would be grand. Everything associated with ehr always was. When she had been asked well in advance what she would like to have for ehr birthday, the witch had chosen the theme of India and the palace decorates and designers had gotten to work immediately because they had two celebrations to prepare in a very short window of time. It had never even crossed the soon to be teenagers mind that ehr Jacques wasn't getting a party, she had always summed they shared one where everything happened just as she wished it to.

This year however, the child had done something unexpected, for the first time in her life Mimosa had came to a silent understanding that her party was the smaller event at the palace this year. No one had told her so, in fact everyone made sure to impress on her quite the opposite. She was heading up to a big milestone, she would be a big girl soon, Jacques had even promised to properly let her drive all the cars after her birthday. And yet whenever she looked at Grandmere and Grandpere, the little witch couldn't help feeling that whatever they had was far more important. In the end, she reasoned that it was because they were having a twenty fifth birthday and that was more than thirteen ergo more important.

After witnessing Malaysia's epic win at the Quidditch World Cup, Mimosa had flown Mercy with her back to France to attend the anniversary ball, still slightly sour that the older Gryffindor would not be able to make her birthday but too exited regardless to let it spoil her mood. Squid Boy on the other hand had decided to do it the other way around, he would be there for her birthday but not the anniversary ball. - something about his dad booking a flat somewhere or something, she hand't paid attention really. After Squid Boy had won a few dollars in the betting, he had gone on and on about how he would spend them until his dad had finally saved Mimosa by telling the boy he wasn't allowed to have the won income until he was twenty one. Squid Boy had mercifully gone quiet after that, leaving the young brunette to focus on more important things - Like Mercy gong glossy eyed as Fiona MacNemera gave her a pat on the back along with an autograph.

Upon arriving at the palace, the first thing that had struck the American witch was Elenore's absence. No one talked about it anymore. Last Christmas they had avoided the topic, then during the Easter break it was swept under even more quietly and finally, here at the end of summer, her Elenore had still not managed to come home. Mimosa wanted to ask someone why this was but she know talking about it would make everyone sad so the child had done the next best thing. She had stayed close to Jacques, Grandmere and Grandpere, making sure they had no time to miss the middle Clement child.

The occasion of the Lord and Lady Clement's anniversary passed without incident. Mimosa danced with simply everyone! She even managed to get a round in with Mercy before being swept away by Jaime Zeverai once more who was getting a little annoying but she had been too happy to notice just then. The little witch had ended the evening by saving the last dance for her Grandpere, staying close to him so he would be happy and not miss anyone who wasn't present. She had also helpfully pointed out who would be staying for her birthday party and who would not. Miss Azalea was there but Mimosa hand't really gotten to speak to her much outside the five minute or so when Jacques had brought her to the Potions Professor, urging her to talk to the older woman who had stolen her name. The only teacher Mimosa had really wanted to see was Jake and he had not made it, nor had he the sensibility to send the babies along for her amusement.

Oh well, maybe on ehr birthday.

The palace had perhaps one day of relative quiet, maybe two, before preparations started anew for the Indian themed party Mimosa had requested. Everyone had to be decked in Desi clothes, special Indian chefs from around the world had to flown in to create the sweets she had ordered, fun fairs and Ferris wheels of indo-western designs were constructed within the palace gerunds, an area had been sectioned off specifically for a game of Holi, elephants had been brought in for rides, camels for more rides and firecrackers spelling out her name, Jacques's name, her milestone year, the Slytherin House logo and her a drawing of her with her Beater's Bat flying high over Hogwarts were all prepped and ready for release on the thirteenth of August.

And then of course there was the guest list. Of course, Mimosa hardly had to do anything beyond a vague mention of what she would like for someone to get on it immediately. And yet the witch never actually uttered what she would really like, for Elenore to come home. She had come close tough, on one of the days when she been helping her Jacques at the gym. In keeping with the long standing tradition the duo had established since she had arrived at the palace, Mimosa always helped him with his exercises when she could, helpfully sitting on his back while the Clement heir did his routine push ups. Lately, the servants had gotten a little nervous about the amount of time the two Clements spent together but they were servants and therefore did not matter, much like Lilac Rhea who had hidden herself somewhere for the summer.

The child had sat cross legged in her position, focusing very hard on being still even though she knew Jacques would never let her topple off. It had seemed like a good time to ask about Elenore because she couldn't see his face from where she sat. the young brunette had almost made up her mind when Jacques phone buzzed, a familiar face ligating up the screen.

"Is that Ms. Kiranjeet from the World Cup?" Mimosa had asked surprised, not expecting to see the Malaysian National Team's Seeker contacting her Jacques. The Frenchman merely "hmm"d in response before the phone buzzed once again, making him pay attention.

"Why is she texting you?" the almost teen asked, curiosity once again lacing her tone but this time sortieing suspicious was there too. She felt Jacques go still underneath ehr indicating for ehr to carefully hop of his back. Once the witch had done so, he turned to face ehr, brushing several strands of damp hair off his forehead in the process.

"Well, Miss Kiran would like to have dinner with us, she was very impressed with you at the World Cup. As she should be of course." the fond smile on his features was familiar territory, putting the child at ease. "I told her we would do our best, but that you had a very packed schedule. So she suggested I go the first time, and the next time we can go together?"

Mimosa nodded, that sounded logical. She really was busy. In fact, she was just as much of a celebrity as Kiranjeet was. Actually, she was a bigger celebrity, of course she had very little time to have dinner with people. "So will you go?" the witch asked, looking up at him to see hos reaction as well as hear it.

"Not if you don't want me to," he assured her, once again putting the child at ease. "I'd rather spend my time with you."

A bright smile blossomed on the witch's face, his words all teh reassurance she would ever need. Of course he would much rather spend his time with her. but he also had to be polite. Grandmere always said courtesy was the best Armour, so of course he had to go have dinner with the Seeker. "It's okay," she reached out to pat his shoulder fondly. "We can hang out every day, you just ave to go to dinner with ehr once. And you should go. Oh and bring her a present. And tell ehr I wish i could be there but I'm really busy." the chatter continued long after, all thoughts of Elenore forgotten for that day.

Mimosa hadn't completely forgotten though, as was evidenced by her sneaking very quietly into Elenore's empty suites the night before her birthday. It had been really difficult to get away from everyone since she was accompanied everywhere. if not by Jacques then the servants. if not by the palace staff than her friends and the myriad of cousins staying over. The witch had managed though, making an excuse and tip toeing quietly up the stairs that lead to the rooms where Elenore used to reside. The child silently passed the older witch's music room with its now unused grand piano, passed Elenore's substantial, three story closet and dressing area and finally into the witch's bedroom where everything looked eerily empty. Someone must come in to clean the place now and then, Mimosa thought abstractly as she took in the pristine setting.

Tip-toeing to the other girl's sleeping space, Mimosa laid out the orangey-pink and gold lehenga on the former Hufflepuff's bed. Just in case Elenore showed up in the middle of the night to surprise her.

Then she would have something to wear to the party.

Maybe she would like the dress so much, she would even stay.

And Grandmere and Grandepre would look as happy as they had coming down the stairs on their anniversary.

Yes, the child nodded to herself, that would do it. This would definitely entice the older Clement back home. The plan was flawless.

Or so she had thought. But the morning of Mimosa's birthday dawned with no Elenore in sight. Though Mimosa didn't notice it until much later because she was woken to a big snuggle attack by both her grandparents before she was whisked away to get dressed. After breakfast, Jacques had took her to the mirror room where she talked to Clara non stop for fifteen minutes before being informed that though her Grandpa wasn't available right now, he would speak to her really soon. The mountainous pile of presents was ignored in favor of going out into the grounds to see her entire Indian theme party come to life and the celebrations kicked off shortly after. Even Squid Boy had ended up somewhat respecting the theme though he cheated slightly by wearing jeans under his Kurta.

Grandpere and Grandmere won best dressed hands down, sporting their regal purple traditions Indian garb though Jacques and herself, Mimosa, felt, weren't too far behind in their own matching dresses, albeit in silver and emerald. The best part abotu the costumes though was that Mimosa got to wear make up! For the first time in her life, the little witch was allowed to wear make up outside of work, and even though it wasn't much, it was still actual make up and she couldn't be more proud of herself if she tried.

Another sweet surprise was the pair of low green heels she was presented before the cake cutting. The diamond studded shoes may have only alienated her an inch or so in eight but Mimosa felt like the tallest person at the palace upon putting them on, so tall that she nearly didn't have to climb up on the bedazzled stepladder to cut her cake. So far, turning thirteen was shaping up to be the best thing ever!

The bespoke fireworks designed and engineered for the occasion were set off closer to eleven in the evening when it was dark enough to enjoy them. And everyone got to stay up until midnight to enjoy her birthday to the fullest. Mimosa didn't remember when she started feeling sleepy but she did remember shaking her head multiple times when asked if she was tired. In the end, she had a vague memory of her Jacques carrying her to bed because heels apparently hurt your feet. As he big her goodnight, the child mumbled sleepy.

"I'll get a better dress for Elenore next time, then she'll come for sure." Convince even in her exhausted state that somehow she would fix all this, Mimosa went to sleep with a smile on her face.

Everything would be just fine, as it always was.

As it always had to be with Mimosa.
