Background
When Ruby was five years old, her birth parents house burned down in a small Russian town. She was adopted by a wealthy English couple named Jane and Edward Gracen. When Ruby was 8, she found out she was adopted because she found adoption papers in her parent’s attic in the mansion she lived in. Ruby grew up different. She was an odd child, but very beautiful. She found that she could easily get what she wanted by just giving her parents a special look she had, or blackmailing them. Ruby was a little devil child. She would be at the right place at the right time, and over hear information that she could use against people. Sometimes she did it innocently, and other times it was because she wanted something, and she knew she could get it.
When she was just 7, she saw her dad having an affair with the maid. She threatened that she would tell her mum if she didn’t get the pony she was after. To keep the family intact, Ed gave her what she wanted. She always used that information against him, and because of that their relationship was tarnished from the start. Ed tried to get Ruby sent to a boarding school, but because she was a “little angel” in Jane’s eyes, she forbade it.
Sometimes incidents happened that even Ruby herself couldn’t explain even though she had been there for them. For that, Ed tried to get her in trouble, but always failed because of her “angel” status with Jane. Ed always took the blame. Ruby always felt like the black sheep of the family, even though she was an only child. She made lamps explode when she was angry, lights flickered on and off when she was upset, and flowers died when she was sad.
Ed was surprised when Jane found these actions completely normal. At age 11, Ruby got her Hogwarts letter. Jane explained to Ed that she was indeed a witch, and that was why Ruby got away with breaking things. On the bright side for Ed, Ruby would be sent to a boarding school, but on the down side, he lost Jane in the process because he couldn’t take the fact that Jane was more like their adoptive daughter whom he strongly disliked. Ed moved away and got divorced from Jane. Jane moved Ruby from Ireland to England so Jane could be closer to Ruby when she was in school.
During school, Ruby enjoyed most of her subjects, particularly history. She loved learning about her adoptive mother’s part of the family and how they came to be in the Wizarding world. Since she was adopted, Ruby began to do research on her own family. She actually found out that she was from a pureblooded family that had died out in the fire. She found out that she was from a family of liars, and crooks. She was disappointed to find out that her real parents where really dead, and the background they came from. She wanted no part in their bloodline, so she still claims to be a half-blood like her real mother Jane.
Knowing her background, Ruby began to feel like she was actually a terrible person. When she was sixteen she went and reconnected with her adopted father, Ed, and he forgave her for everything. She brought Ed back home to Jane. They rekindled, and forgave each other. Her family still isn’t perfect, but it’s the start of something new. And for that she is greatful.
As a seventh year Hogwarts student, Ruby is anxious about the future. She really wants to get a job as a journalist at the daily prophet. But since she’s so great at many things, she’s not particularly sure where she wants to go in her life. She’s thinking about taking a year off and traveling with the money she’s saved up working in Hogsmeade.

Family Background
The Gracen’s are of a wealthy upper class. Edward Gracen makes a living as a famous writer/bank president, and Jane is a famous wedding gown designer and is known a crossed Ireland. For a long while, they lived in a big mansion out in the country. They also ran their own farm with chickens and cows. On the side, they sold eggs and milk so the family never ran out of money if the businesses went through a rough patch. They were rather busy so to speak.
