Dueling - Lesson Three (All Years) Empty
PostSubject: Dueling - Lesson Three (All Years)   Dueling - Lesson Three (All Years) EmptySun Nov 08, 2015 9:52 am

With Veronika now off on Maternity Leave, Jake had stepped up to help the Headmaster run her classes. It hadn't been too difficult a decision for Jake to choose Dueling ahead of Transfiguration, after all, his job did include dueling from time to time when they got stuck with a tricky customer.

Stepping in to the dueling classroom, Jake took a steadying breath. It was difficult to know what to teach the kids with what had happened recently, but he knew that he was doing a useful class for the kids.

Splitting the class wasn't something Jake thought would be useful, so he'd kept all of them together. That way the younger years could learn more from the older students. Now, all Jake had to do was wait for people to arrive so they could make a start on today's lesson. One he hoped they would remember.

Lux made her way to the dueling classroom, excited for what they would be learning. Dueling was probably one of the few classes she actually found useful and interesting. Well, there was the fact that she learnt how to fight. That did come in handy when she needed to make an underling do what she wanted. She knew she wasn't supposed to use magic to intimidate other students but it was only wrong if she got caught right?

She entered the classroom to see that she was the first to arrive. Giving the professor a nod as a way of greeting, she made her way to the very back of the classroom and took a seat. She hoped they would be doing something stimulating today. What would make it exciting was if the professor paired them up to duel. Now, that would be a good excuse to give the other students a good thrashing.

Dueling was a subject that interested Nirek a lot more than most subjects. Why? Because it was one of the only times he could be a little more physical with his classmates and get away with it.

Hurrying down from his common room, Nirek slipped through the door, and paused, noting the new professor for that day. Well, not new, it was only Professor Newbury, but Nirek had noticed. Whilst he may not be Professor Hollands, Nirek didn't mind having Professor Newbury in the class.

It was then that he noted the only other student in the room, Herbology Girl. She always seemed to be in classes before anyone else, and it was somewhat annoying, truth be told. Where was everyone else, exactly, and how did she manage to be early to everything?

Nirek pushed those thoughts away, however, going to take up a seat beside Herbology Girl. "Morning." He greeted her, not bothering to greet Professor Newbury because he quite frankly couldn't be bothered.

The battle had terrified Hailey. She wanted to know how to protect herself even more, so she decided to take on an extra class. Dueling. Dueling was something Hailey lacked skills in, well something she would admit that she lacked skills in. She was really better at everything else, except with her wand.

That she would admit. If she said she was better at everything else, then she would have to prove it. And Hailey was too scared to get up and stand up for herself. She had done it enough times with the whole alien business to know it's not worth getting laughed at behind her back.

And then there was Benny. She was afraid of him. He had torn her down once, he could easily do it again. That much she was afraid of as well. So today, Hailey wore her black hair up in a bun, and wore her Slytherin robes with pride as she marched into class. She didn't want anyone to know she was terrified of this class. She was Slytherin and Pureblood, and she would prove it.

As the class filled, Jake smiled towards each student who had decided to join his lesson. He knew not everyone would be happy with him being here, but a lesson was better than none, surely?

Checking his watch as the hour neared, Jake cleared his throat. "Good morning, everyone! As you may know by now, Professor Hollands has gone on maternity leave, so I'm going to be teaching you in her absence." Jake explained, though he never actually said it was his child she'd be having, and only the very, very observant would notice the minute widening of his smile in that moment.

"Okay, so today, we will be perfecting our shield charms whilst under pressure. Of course, to make a shield charm successful, you need to use a spell to shield away. We're keeping to the charms that won't seriously injure one another. Anyone I catch using spells of brutal effect will have a one way ticket to the Headmaster's office. Please pair up, and when you're ready, begin." Jake told them, motioning them off.

Dueling - Lesson Three (All Years) Empty

Bennett had never attended a single Duelling lesson, but it seemed like the right time to start. Sadly, he had misread the times and got them confused with another class, so Bennett was running through the corridors trying to make it in time. Of course, he didn't make it in time. Bennett arrived at the exact moment Professor Newbury was talking about maternity leave. It took him a second to recall who Professor Hollands was but then he eventually remembered it was the Transfiguration professor, whom Bennett had certainly noted was pregnant. Frowning a little to himself, Bennett thought about how many pregnant people there seemed to be, but he let it go. After all, it wasn't his business.

Unlike Bennett, Professor Newbury seemed to be smiling. Maybe older people were more supportive of pregnant women, regardless of gender. It also seemed natural for coworkers to support each other through harsh times, because Bennet couldn't see how pregnancy wasn't harsh. Oh, shield charms! Bennett liked that. They were easy. Listening careful to the instructions, Bennett looked around for someone to pair up with. His eyes instantly fell on Hailey, because she was the only one he knew. A little awkwardly, Bennett walked up to her.

"Hey." he didn't bother with a proper greeting because he was half expecting her to yell at him. "Mind if I work with you?" What else was he supposed to say? Hey Hailey, I know I've been a shit with your alien obsession and ridiculous personality but I really don't want to fail this class so how about we just set that aside and work together to get a perfect grade? Unlikely. As he stood awkwardly in front of her, Bennett scratched the back of his neck and attempted to give her an actual smile. Maybe if he was nice to her she wouldn't mind working together.

Lux barely acknowledged Nirek's greeting and twisted her lips in displeasure when he took a seat beside her. Just because they once partnered up and happened to have a conversation did not mean he had to be friendly. Lux didn't have friends. She had pawns she used and dumped.

Ignoring him, she turned her attention to the professor as he started talking. Maternally leave Lux scoffed internally. The reason why people had babied escaped her. Babies were nothing but noisy, smelly, dirty useless things. She never got why people found them cute and adorable. Perhaps her dislike for babies stemmed from the fact that she was forced to take care of them at the orphanage whenever she broke the rules - which was more times than she could count. At least the babies seemed to know that when she was around, it was in their best interest to shut up.

Lux brought her thoughts back to the present and when the professor asked for them to pair up, she looked around the room. Since the late guy asked the girl to work with him, her only option left was Nirek. Again. She rolled her eyes then turned to him and raised and eyebrow. "Partner up?" was all she said.

When Herbology girl turned to him to ask him to partner up, he gave her a small smile, before nodding his consent to work together. Whilst she might not be the sanest person he'd ever spoken to, he didn't see the harm in working together on something Professor Newbury had insisted must stay safe.

Moving from his desk, Nirek moved to an empty area of the classroom, readying himself for the activities of the lesson.

"Did you want to block first, or try to break my shield charm?" Nirek asked the Slytherin witch with a small, hopeful smile. He wasn't sure which he would prefer to do first, but he knew that either way he was going to give the spells a good try.

Though, now he thought about it, he wasn't exactly sure which spells were deemed "brutal" as each of them depended on how the caster was intending on using them...
